I have drafted in bangers of the highest calibre from the likes of Ste Roberts, Bolam, Inner Zone and Yosh. They go high, they go low, they go fast and they go...slightly less fast. If you like slammers, and I’m guessing that you do, then this will be a veritable day out at the fair for your ears.

The second side has transparency and lyrics in "Prime Philosophy", but the rhythm and groove keeps us dancing.

"Bubble Bridge" is a more conceptual atmosphere, but at the same time everything is extremely rhythmic and technological in terms of modern sound design.

Like Akira Yamaoka's previous two SILENT HILL scores, SILENT HILL 3 is a mix of beautiful and truly terrifying soundscapes, mixed with brilliant, layered guitar driven rock and trip-hop. Their third LP is a new take on afrobeat that combines traditional grooves with heavy, hypnotic, sci-fi sounds that reflect the band's myriad of influences as record collectors across genres. "We didn't leave the traditional afro-beat sound behind, but we did allow ourselves to pull from different places with less hesitation." Shared saxophonist Cole Pulice. Like their previous albums, the 9-piece band recorded Hox live to tape. "The sound and aesthetic of the analog recording process is important for this kind of music," Pulice explained. "We're looking to capture lightning in a bottle." With that, the album features several sections of heavily processed synthesizers, harsh glitches, fuzzed out guitars, and a burning percussion section that pays homage to the traditional drumming cultures of Nigeria and Ghana. The performances are dynamic and confident. The grooves are infectious and hypnotic. BMB has pushed further into musical experimentalism, but at the end of the day, they're still making dance music. Krautrock, free-jazz, doom metal - the inspirations for Hox stem from all kinds of musical backgrounds, but the sound is far from scattered. It's a polished, innovative record that's sure to exceed expectations and keep the listener engaged from start to finish.

Ein Titel allerdings sprengte die anspruchsvolle Musiktradition und wurde von britischen DJs der Modern Soul-Szene aufgegriffen. 'I Need Your Love' wurde in GB und schließlich auch in Europa popular. Es folgte ein längst vergriffener 45er Release. Kent ergänzt die Neuauflage mit 'We're In Love' von der LP, auf der B-Seite.

Darrows Originalaufnahme des Gray & Hanks-Songs "No Limit" wurde 2012 von Kent auf CD und als Single veröffentlicht. Die limitierte Auflage war schnell ausverkauft, und der aktuelle Preis liegt bei über 100 £. Die B-Seite 'No Limit' wurde 1979 auch von Jean Terrell und Breakwater aufgenommen und veröffentlicht.

Deepriver is the recently formed intercontinental project of Cape Town-based Jason van Wyk and long time Stockholm-based collaborator Joni Ljungqvist.


Having worked previously in collaboration mining the more introspective side of trance, Deepriver’s inaugural aural statement, “Volume One”, finds the two experimenting with atmosphere and composition to maximal effect. Van Wyk's recent viscerally experimental direction seamlessly coalesces with Ljungqvist's conceptually reflective approach in a way that recalls the sounds and nostalgia of electronic music from decades past.

The UK’s cosmic, psychedelic-funk ensemble issue their first album on maverick producer Madlib’s label, Madlib Invazion. The Heliocentrics’ albums are all confounding pieces of work. Ohio independent Hip-Hop mainstays J. Rawls and Cas Metah put on a clinic with Criminal Blinded. As has become his signature, Dr. Rawls delivers 7 soulful tracks for Cas to spit carefully crafted conscious lyricism. The Buckeye state is represented to the fullest as Rawls & Metah are joined by OH legends Holmskillit on "G Rap", Donte of Mood on "Golden Arms", Blast Mega on "Seven Kings" and D1 on the title track. Following on from the well-received release of Toc De Breaks earlier this year, Spanish duo JP Sunshine and Guim return with a full collaborative EP, Toc De Jaume, released on Steel City Dance Discs.

Coordinating a masterful blend of funk-infused instrumentals, melodic breakbeats and acid-tinged basslines, Toc De Jaume is unique in its character, which bears its defining traits from its two creators, JP Sunshine and Guim, whose partnership is nothing newfound, yet, in light of this EP, feels as fresh as ever.

Toc De Jaime contains a vast variation of sounds within its entirety, from the funky, acid dripped breakbeat of La Fiesta, which was released earlier this year, to tracks like JP Sunshine’s I Want To Stay, released in 2020, which offer a more melodic, feelgood aspect to this EP, and the sound of both artists as a whole.

Through Toc De Jaime, JP Sunshine and Guim present an EP that feels like an ode to the sounds of their shared native homeland; sounds which the duo manipulate and rework within the confines of an electronic dance music context, resulting in a perfect marriage of diverse sounds.

Kalita are excited to announce the first ever re-release of "Adzagli (Jungle Funk)" and "A Song For You (Ayawa)", two phenomenal pieces of West African disco from Amsterdam"s Kofi Ayivor. Selected from his sought-after Nigerian 1981 self-titled debut album "Kofi", at last these two recordings see the light of day once more via a loud-cut remastered 12" single. In addition, Kalita enlists fellow Amsterdam resident, DJ and producer Mendel to create his own remix of each recording, using the original multitrack session tapes to rework both for the modern-day dancefloor.

Lerosa (Uzuri, Idle Hands, Lunar Disko) adds to his esteemed discography with an EP composed entirely during the summer of 2020. Several of his musical influences – I.M.S., Lee 'Scratch' Perry, James Stinson – can be heard across these four diverse tracks, as he jumps nimbly from italo to dub to house to electro. As always with Lerosa, though, the sound that emerges is distinctively his own, the result of daily cat-assisted studio time at his home in Dublin.

Bold arrangements, excitingly honest lyricism and a riveting voice: Viennese Singer-Songwriter “Lorenz Ambeek” emanates the virtuosity of José Gonzalez and Eliott Smith (MUSIKEXPRESS / FM4). With his first two singles counting over a million streams, paired with chart positions and international airplay, Lorenz’ first album “Look at Me Now” sets sail for a promising musical future: 2023 will thus see the young artist release his 10-track debut-album, alongside several singles and live concerts.

“Look at Me Now” comes with a professional marketing-campaign of visualizer promotion on social media (TikTok & Meta), online marketing and print&online PR for Europe. Previously on chart positions and rotation in Germany (NDR2, EgoFm, FluxFM), Austria (FM4, 88.6) and France (FIP).

Cosmic jazz from the Canary Islands. After a few years in London, where he worked with Archie Shepp and recorded a sought-after album for the famed library music label De Wolfe, Argentinian pianist Luis Vecchio settled in the island of Gran Canaria following advice from a superior entity from outer space. Vecchio subsequently opened the first jazz school in the Canary Islands, effectively planting the seeds of jazz in the archipelago.


In Contactos, recorded in 1978 in the Mayra studio owned by Ramiro González, Vecchio gives a free jazz account (with a dash of funky jazz rock) of his contacts with Adionesis, who delivers his ominous message upon the human race on side B of the album. Fellow Argentinean Fernando Bermúdez on percussion and Japanese bass player Yoichi Yahiro complete the line-up of Contactos.

When Mani Festo isn't designing the artwork for Club Glow - the collective he forms part of alongside Borai, Denham Audio and LMajor - or running his own imprint "Flightpath", he uses his DJ sets and production to pay homage to the soundsystem-oriented music that made him. A real artist of the moment, the past couple of years have seen Mani Festo get the recognition he deserves, with many citing his prowess in capturing the darkly seductive essence of hardcore's antecedents, creating something at once nostalgic and futuristic.

Those searching for this fine balance will not be disappointed by Pathfinder EP, the next instalment of Basement Trax: a series which focuses on club-fuelled Techno and Electro. "Powertriip" is a full-bodied electro slammer, coloured by the metallic textures of an industrial soundscape. The title track continues with the same high-voltage pressure, this time with hi-hats that give it double-time energy.

The B-side is about computer love: "Big Rooms" is driven by a highly-processed acid melody whilst "Auto Sequence" is a dizzying take on breaks with high-pitched arpeggios and deranged vocal chops that add to the track's eeriness.

Four years on from the original expedition, Masis returns to the Challenger Deep to reclaim his lost treasure. Armed with a loaded harpoon to skewer the circling sharks, he resurfaces once more, allowing all dub lovers to enjoy his prized cuts.

Kickstarting the landmark year for the label is the reissue of the 1999 classic Men From The Nile ft Peven Everett Watch Them Come. Standing the test of time and a testament to its dancefloor-ready grooves, Watch Them Come opens up the EP and still sounds as fresh as ever. Men From The Nile is a collaboration between Roy Davis Jr. and Jay Juniel, and for Watch Them Come they enlisted the legendary vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Peven Everett to complete the tribal cut. For the reissue, Men From The Nile are joined by some of the biggest names in dance music. Green Velvet aka Cajmere has been a mainstay in the Chicago circuit since the 90s, making a name for himself as a multifaceted artist as well as label head at Cajual Records and Relief Records. Key players in the club scene for over two decades, Boston duo Soul Clap launched Soul Clap Records in 2012 and have since released more than 450 tracks on their imprint.

The debut release on the Finnish occult themed insignia Summon Titans sees label manager New Gods take an introductionary journey to the abyss. The intensely built EP travels through various styles of techno with influences from electro, EBM, 90's trance and breakbeat.

Oni-ki is the new studio adventure of old friends Onirik & Minoki, bridging genres, travelling through house, techno, electro, dub & ambient with their own touch, this is only the beginning. Onirik also provides his solo rework of the title track.

Breakbeat Paradise Recordings has teamed up with hip-hop legend Paul Sitter who has gather some of dopest MCs on the planet to feature on the epic LP: Hip-Hip Delivery.

The LP is a celebration to the oldskool hiphop vibes that started it all by cutting and scratching up the classic funk record, twisted in a brand-new way with MCs from around the world dropping fire on the mic.

Starting out with the intoxicating Global Chremistry with Craig G and some big funky grooves. Moving on to the Go Move featuring the awesome Andy Cooper on a smooth boom bap joint. The classic Wild Thing gets a oldskool hiphop twist with some big rhymes by Birdapres and cuts by DJ Robert Smith. The breaks are about to get serious as Chromedrops some high paced rhymes on the Who's Nice Kid track. Finally the A-Side finishes up paying some respect to some of the classics beat and breaks from the early hip days on the King Of Rock jam.


The flip side kicks off with more groovy, soulful hip hop featuring Andy Cooper on the catchy Chasing the Funk. Paul Sitter breaks is down nice on another slick hip hop anthem B-Boy Impressions before letting Dr Syntax take it over on the mic on the It's On Like That jam.

The last 3 joints on the album lets Paul Sitter get busy on some funky hip-hop creations showcasing his classic breakbeats and heavy sample techniques.


Breakbeat Paradise Recordings' first full album release since 2019 to drop on 12" vinyl but with an instant classic release like this we felt there was no other way to do it.

In the early 2000s, Slum Village was riding high on the success of their Fantastic and Fantastic Vol. 2 releases and upped the ante with the release of Trinity (Past, Present And Future). Despite Jay Dee’s starting to pursue solo efforts, the production team assembled for Trinity kept the Slum vibe found on the Fantastic albums alive. Producers on the release include Hi-Tek, Waajeed, Scott Storch, Karriem Riggins, T3, Black Milk, Young R.J., Shelton ""Ess"" Rivers with a significant contribution from Jay Dee himself.

DeForrest Brown Jr., the writer and producer behind Speaker Music, describes Techxodus as "abstracting Blackness through information overload". On the album he explores the intersection of tech, Blackness and resistance via music taken from his archived live shows, which are then edited, ordered and reassembled in the studio. The main line of inquiry that feeds into Techxodus is Drexciya, whose myths have informed much recent afrofuturist creativity. DeForrest researches and reimagines the artifacts and stories of Drexciya with new maps, ideas and music, particularly reflecting on the 'Seven Storms', seven albums that came out in quick succession around the death of Drexciya member James Stinson, which seemed to herald Drexciyans in the attack mode. The artwork by Abu Qadim Haqq, who also created artwork for Drexciya, links the work too, with Deforrest re-orienting charts and timelines familiar from Drexciyan mythology, working up clues to all possible environments where Drexciyans could survive, from the depths of the Atlantic, to oceanic islands or even outer space. Like Sun-Ra, another touchstone of Afrofuturist music, it might be that the Drexciyans wanted to leave the planet they hated. With these elements, DeForrest creates a soundtrack for an alternate history, a sort of sci-fi sonic fiction which threads together the sonic warfare and mythos of the Drexciyan records with ideas and references to Ishmael Reed's 'Mumbo Jumbo', which tracks the story of 'Jes Grew', an audio virus, back to the coastal black cities of Alabama and the American South. Musically the album is as intense as its inspirations. DeForrest skilfully hand-plays rhythms which amalgamate trap and jazz drumming, but feel at times like orca-song as they pulse through the thick waves of digital sound. Equally the music evokes the ocean, with deep cold drones, or as if it's floating through time like in 'Holosonic Rebellion' which mixes in recordings of African Warriors. Sometimes there is an energetic turbulence as on 'Jes Grew', where punched-in passages of jazz brass bounce against DeForrest's drums to create a weird disassembled jazz. Towards the end the album begins to feel like a spaceship taking off, the rushes of ascending noise and distortion, distant Southern Gospel Vocals feel like music that's leaving earth. Listen to it without the references or feed your imagination; this is a powerful and immersive original work from one of electronic music's most unique creators.

Following contractual headaches and some time away from the game, the acclaimed emcee is back like he never left. And he’s not doing it alone, either. Telfon is joined on this project by two of hip-hop’s finest producers and his closest collaborators, DJ Premier and Jazimoto, who split production duties down the middle. Together, they’ve crafted a raw, mature album that showcases Teflon at the top of his lyrical game. Taking influences from Ethiopiques Ethiojazz as well as the soundtracks to the European horror films of the 60s and 70s, The Sorcerers seamlessly blend these disparate elements into one cohesive package. Based in ATA Records' home of Leeds, The Sorcerers are made up of the cream of the city's jazz and world scene. Forming the backbone of the ATA Records house band they incorporate bass clarinets, flutes, and vibraphone alongside bass, guitar organ and drums, providing Ellingtonian textures on top of a solid rhythmic foundation.

Initially inspired by the work of Ethiopian composer Mulatu Astatke, The Sorcerers have developed their sound from the foundations laid out on their debut LP "The Sorcerers"."In pursuit of Shai Hulud" eschews the atmospheric textures of their previous material, replacing them with driving percussion and propulsive bass. Organ and flute tear into the melody as temple blocks beat out an insistent rhythm throughout.

The B-Side ("The Anderson Spectrum") is the original track from The Yorkshire Film & Television Orchestra that The Sorcerers re-recorded and re-named "The Viking Of 5th Avenue" when they recorded it for their debut. Tremolo-fuzz guitar and heavy brass place the track firmly in the sonic realm of 1960s British Library Music, bringing to mind the work of John Barry and Portishead rather than Mulatu Astatke.

Few dancefloor tracks can be identified by their kick drum alone, “Blue Monday” is clearly one of them. These mixes seem to paint two very distinct pictures of this classic, yet also very understandable why they were never released – not the easiest thing to digest on a dancefloor. The authorship of these mixes isn't clear, but rumors have it to most likely be some ridiculous late night experiment from the sound engineer interning at the time. Taken from master tapes that surfaced almost 40 years later, (God bless magnetic tape). Some mixes were never released for a reason.

Latin Freestyle war eine schwindelerregende, leidenschaftliche Musik. Darüber hinaus war noch viel mehr: Proto-House-Klavierlinien, kubanische Percussion, viel Emotion und Synth-Hooks. Zusammengestellt und kommentiert von Bob Stanley ('The Daisy Age', 'Fell From The Sun'), ist 'Latin Freestyle' die erste Zusammenstellung, welche die gesamte Bandbreite des Freestyle von seinem Durchbruch in den frühen 1980er Jahren bis zum 1990er-Revival abdeckt. In its original form, it has an alluring vocal charm with unsettling chords over a grinding bassline and sharp percussion. The El B remix brings fleshier low ends and more swagger and shuffle while the vocals remain in place to blow up your spot. To close out the EP, Dawn Raid remixes with a high-energy jungle sound full of old-school signifiers. A proper EP for proper dance floors.

Seine Stärke ist ein Songwriting das musikalisch wie poetisch kratzt und schabt: am amerikanischen Traum, an dessen Wirklichkeit und den Menschen die ihn bevölkern. Immer wieder wurde seine spröde Musik und einfühlsamen Texte mit denen von Leonard Cohen, Lou Reed und Bob Dylan verglichen und somit Gewicht verliehen. Zu großer Bekanntheit führte das nicht, Simon Joyner bleibt ein outsider mit seinem Loner-folk, aber für die, die ihn entdecken bietet er ein Kraft von rauher Schönheit. Conor Obers von Bright Eyes nennt Joyner, der seit 1990 seine dunklen Americana Songs veröffentlicht, einen entscheidenden Einfluß. Simon Joyner's neuestes Album gerät noch dunkler und eindringlicher. Sein Thema hier ist Isolation, und er übernimmt es gleich auch als Grundlage für seine Produktion. Ihm war es wichtig, dass die beteiligten Musiker allesamt alleine waren um ihre jeweiligen Parts zu finden. Die Abgeschiedenheit der einzelnen Musiker auf Songs From A Stolen Guitar bietet somit weniger Spontaneität vieler früherer Arbeiten von Joyner, führt aber zu einer Art Silberstreifeneffekt: Joyners Songs, die hier sorgfältiger und vielleicht absichtsvoller produziert wurden als auf jedem seiner früheren Alben, kommen viel klarer durch und stellen sowohl seine schillernden Wortspiele als auch seine klare Vision in den Vordergrund. Ein Kritiker bringt einen Vergleich zu Neil Young und meinte "Wenn (sein 2012 Album) 'Ghosts' sein 'Tonight's the Night' war - zornig, nackt und bodenlos - dann könnte sich 'Songs From A Stolen Guitar' als sein Harvest erweisen." Songs From A Stolen Guitar wurde in verschiedenen Städten aufgenommen. Joyner nahm seinen Gesang und seine Gitarre live in Omaha auf; Bassist Wil Hendrix fügte seine Parts zu Hause in San Francisco hinzu, Michael Krassner nahm seine Gitarren- und Klavier-Overdubs zu Hause in Phoenix auf, und Schlagzeuger/Percussionist Ryan Jewell nahm in Colorado auf. Eins der seltenen Alben, das nach dem klingt, worum es geht: die Kluft zwischen Einsamkeit und Alleinsein, die Grenzen zwischen Liebe und Hingabe, der Unterschied zwischen dem Tornado und dem, was er hinterlässt.

It’s been almost ten years since 6BP were last on Delusions Of Grandeur so we’re stoked to welcome them back with a killer 3 track EP which sees them on fine form and with their classic sound mixing up crunchy disco drums, warm analogue synths and punchy bass lines to make you move.

Opening track Rhythm sets the pace with a loopy, uptempo filter house track which takes you straight to the dance floor. Reminding us of that classic DJ Q sound of the late 90’s the fellow Scotsmen let things roll, the one bar re peating bass sample hooking you in whilst dubbed out FX add a trippy touch.

Next up things go nice and deep on Truth with a repeating piano sample tak ing centre stage whilst trademark 6BP vocals filter in and out of the mix. Later on we’re treated to some classic Philly strings which lift the track, adding a euphoric element to this pensive yet uplifting little groover.

Rounding off the EP things go deeper still on Keep On, a subtle, mid tempo house chugger which will set the tone perfectly in any warm up set worth its salt whilst maintaining that distinctive warm and musical 6th Borough flavour we know and love.

The debut release from the new Studio 45 project features reworks of some classic Disco-infused blends from way back in the day, both remixed and refreshed for 2023, and available on a 45 for the very first time! First up, Del Gazeebo brings his own classic cut "Got to be Large" featuring Cheryl Lynn & Kool Keith up to date. On the flip, he turns his attention to LL Smooth K's "Can I Get a Soul Clap", breathing fresh life into Grand Wizard Theodore's old skool jam. Early support from Jalapeno Soundsystem, Nick Halkes (Disco Wonderland). And thanks to The Allergies for making it their "tune of the month" on this month's podcast.

The A-side is a heavily restrained excursion that rests on the boundary between underwater-level deepness and a dry fineness akin to being dragged through a beach. Both playful and menacing in the same breath, it's all crisp handclaps layered with whip-cracking kicks, pops and hats, underscored by a hypnotic, swaying bass line. Spacey, aggressive synths and a coiling radio-static-meets-guitar-chug sample occupy the upper levels, but this really is a simple, tooly, fine deep garage track perfect for building things up and knocking things down.
B1
If the A side was on the beach, then B1 emerges from the water. A pulsar and a simple kick greet you before a reverbed funky pluck and a rolling bass do the legwork. Subtle, dubby and driving, the watery aspect gets counterpoised by dry hats and a sparse and lonely cry of a pad, somewhere, far off in the distance. Contemplative yet playful yet dark and another 4 AM affair.
B2
B2 is warmer and looser, focused on elemental percussive drives that shake themselves into centre stage. A bass line that gets forced back is then finally released and realised through swelling pads that wave themselves in, while a phaser calls out above it all, at liberty and intermittently. B2 = builder to early morning sunrises.

Following the success of his label debut - the raucous 'Bun & Cheese' EP - Dudley bassline stalwart DJ Pantha - is back with a full-length LP. 'The 140 Archives' sees Pantha prove his prowess in harnessing a sound which captures the genre in its antecedents whilst resembling something altogether new. Funky rhythms and rude melodies energise the first two tracks before the half-time 'Vibez' represents a slightly darker, more contemplative take. Elsewhere, Grime's influence lives through 'Four By Niche' and the title, claps and chopped choral vocals of 'Blackberry Riddim', whilst the gunshot-happy 'Emmerdale' and 'Protein Shake' represent bassline at its most playful.

It is a privilege to welcome Ed Upton back to Shipwrec for his sixth release with the label. An artist who has been at the forefront of electronic music for three decades, under his well-honed DMX Krew guise the British musician has crafted icy electro, thoughtful electronica and textured techno. It is a combination of these styles that culminate in Tree in Space. A steady kick tethers "Parasite" to reality, a thick earthen melody countered by twinkling refrains as soaked drums splash. Off-centre bleep and beats introduce the title piece. Solid basslines are lightened by playful brassy electrofunk notes as genre limitations melt into Summer warmth. Skeletal scales find themselves confronted by a bruising bulwark of bass in "Unbelief." Balancing these angular and globular tones are arcing keys that draw the disparate elements into unity. "Meltdown" is the closer. Blending a spread of sounds, acid, braindance and techno, DMX Krew serves up something truly special. Brooding notes are met by cracked percussion and simmering 303 squawk in a track that pursues its own path. An EP from a musician that continues to stretch boundaries and imaginations.

After his EP together with Ness, Giorgio Gigli returns to Planet Rhythm with another Italian collaboration. This time he is joined in the studio by Roman talent VSK. Whilst Gigli is known for his hypnotic productions on labels such as Prologue and his own Zooloft, VSK has been steadily releasing bangers on labels such as EarToGround and recently Perc Trax.

Both gentleman's styles are blended flawlessly together in a masterful EP. Reverb soaked sounds are effortlessly merged with powerful kicks and basslines.

From the haunting atmosphere on "Silent Age" to the trademark VSK synthwork on the B-side, this special collaborative debut is one that we surely hope to to present again on Planet Rhythm!

A double shot of Y2K digi thrillers from Sydney via Bromley electro-dub producer Jeff Dread. Part of the city’s burgeoning network of blunted bass and sound system culture, Dread worked in parallel with the likes of Sheriff Lindo, Andy Rantzen and Ali Omar, issuing two dynamite albums on Creative Vibes in 1999 and 2001.

Utilising the Atari 1020 Ste, Dread would frantically live mix up to 9 tracks direct to CD-R, echoing the same rough and ready low tech intuition as Jamaican trailblazers King Tubby, Scientist and Jack Ruby and their UK-based disciples Jah Shaka, Adrian Sherwood and Mad Professor. While unmarked discs of his indulgently durational sessions litter the archives, this plate showcases versions immortalised by two crucial compilation CDs. Wicked stepper ‘Dub The Farmer’s Daughter’ burrows the ear canal with its addictive melodica and tightly coiled acid synth lines, edited for high impact by Sheriff Lindo for his volume of Dub For the Masses (Dread would curate its successor), while ‘Out On A Limb’ hails from Just Is, a double album sequenced by legendary Sydney queer party crew Club Kooky. A bass bin creeper that was extended with horns for his second longplayer Return From Alpha One, it’s this unembellished work in progress that really stings.

With Dread’s allegiance to local sound system heavyweights Firehouse, these totally brained studio jams are tried and tested weapons, finally blasting on the sacred 7” format.

Damian Lazarus’ imprint Crosstown Rebels will release a solo EP by German DJ and producer Jonathan Kaspar in August. Transcending melodic techno and sultry house, the 4-track Overfree release echoes the cinematic but club-driven aesthetic of the Bonn-born artist.

Enter the rabbit hole through the title track and its constellation of starry synth notes and a chugging bassline. Magic. Ten floats in next as a slow-burning melody curls around a bleepy percussive pattern. On the flip, Kaspar goes deep via Piece Of, as staccato piano notes and a soft kickdrum evokes ethereal textures, the kind that marks the end of an all-night-long DJ set. Kaspar collaborates with Canadian singer and songwriter Graham Baxter on the closing track Unify. It's a sublime meeting of the minds as Baxter’s ghostly vocals collide with Kaspar's dreamy grooves and rippling bassline. Surreal synergies, made with the dancefloor and introspective listener in mind.

Jonathan Kaspar is a Cologne-based producer and DJ with an evolving collection spanning Cocoon, Innervisions and Kompakt. Kaspar's roots in dance music stem from his student days studying medicine, when he promoted parties in his native Bonn, Germany, to fund his studies. After graduating, he followed a winding road in producing and DJing and delivered his debut release on Upon You Records in 2015. A slew of solid releases followed suit on Objektivity, These Eyes, ouï and Kompakt. Like his productions, Kaspar's DJ sets convey stories, stitching a range of atmospheric tones and tingling melodies that capture his audience's imagination. He garners a residency at Cologne's esteemed Gewölbe club and enjoys curating all-night-long sets and inviting international names to play alongside him. Beyond Cologne, Kaspar's played at German institutions Watergate, Kater Blau and Fusion Club, as well as Volt Club in Milan, T7 in Paris and Extrema Open Air in Hasselt

Title track 'Sometimes Cap' kicks off and is a loose but driving cut with snares flapping away over lovely drum funk. 'Some Of That' gets its head down and heads on into the night with eerie pads and acid gurgles next to paranoid vocal mutterings. 'Repeat Business' then gets buys on more tight drum programming and fresh sound design and last of all, 'Chesire Badger' picks up the pace with a spooky cosmic vibe.
