With half a century of existence, Beninese band Poly-Rythmo can easily be considerate as legends of the African music alongside Sela Kuti and Tinariwen. Drawing their name from the extensive mix of influences that forged their sound (American soul and funk, Nigerian afrobeat, French chanson, Congolese rumba, etc.), they are known to be impressively productive as they released from 1969 to 1980 hundreds of EPs and dozens of albums. In 2014, orchestra conductor Florent Mazzoleni visited the band and decided to produce this new album recorded in the legendary African studio Satel. With its warm tone and mastery of rhythm variations, 'Madjafalao' ("watch out") will instantaneously become a classic of afrobeat and Poly-Rythmo will share their warm joie de vivre with thousands of people during their European tour starting in late October.

Following the success of their 4th album 'Malamore' released in April this year, French duo The Limiñanas have now trusted London star DJ, producer and friend Andrew Weatherall to remix the flagship single Garden Of Love (feat. Peter Hook). The collaboration has resulted in two unique remixes. When we released Je Ne Suis Pas Très Drogue in 2009, Andrew played it in his radio show in London. Then Bernie Fabre contacted me because Andrew wanted us to play in his festival De La City A La Cité in Carcassone. That's how we met. When we worked with Peter Hook, the idea of a maxi with one or two remixes made sense. So we did this record with the original edit of Garden Of Love and two remix edits by Andrew Weatherall. - Lionel Limiñana

Some would associate the sounds of the waves to heat and relaxation and rest assured, we're part of them. That being so, some others visualize the sea as a wide playground from which they can pick up the echos to turn them into a deep sound. That is precisely the case of Molecule who decided to record the wild voices of the Atlantic Ocean aboard a 90 metres long fishing boat. The result is made of powerful and danceable techno beats ("8 ZL 40), tracks that will take you directly to the Atlantic's depths ("Abysses"), and harmonious moments of time off ("Le Jardin' or Soleil Bleu"). The whole of the tracks is captivating and flows naturally as we listen to it. You'll find the song Hébrides, present on the 981 Mb EP, as well as the original version of Rockall that you might have heard already as a live version. After a first EP released in 2013 at Because Music, Andrea has gained ground and comes back 26th February with Idealist", a first album that gathers the electronic aspect of Todd Terje, as well as the disco of West-African inspiration of William Onyeabor, or even Liquid Liquid's kind of rythms. He already has his media supporters. Idealist was in part inspired by a chance discovery of some music on a hard drive given to Andrea by Salvatore Principato, singer with seminal New York post-punks Liquid Liquid, after their paths had crossed in 2011 when Principato produced an EP for Andrea's previous band did. I was looking for something to inspire me,' he remembers. So I plugged it in and suddenly there were all these amazing sounds.

This solo debut by Air’s Nicolas Godin explores various elements of Bach, but without slavishly transposing his music to modern instruments in the manner of Wendy Carlos.

Instead, Godin uses themes and fragments from Bach as the jumping-off point for diverse musical explorations. In “Club Nine”, he borrows the “Take Five” rhythm, brushed out behind a cyclical piano figure, stained with resonant Bach chords on vibes and keyboard; and for “Clara”, the husky Latin croon of Brazilian singer Marcelo Camelo swoons over a stately dub arrangement of strings and woodwind.

The seven-minute “Bach Off” is the most dramatic piece, a suite shifting between interlocking Latin percussion, African highlife sax, stalking piano and harpsichord/woodwind interplay; while the blend of music-box, cellos, French horn, pizzicato and vocal pad makes “Elfe Man” sound like an outtake from Pet Sounds. A rich, rewarding indulgence.
