Wow, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for the support with Dynamite Cuts since 2017 when I opened a Pandora’s box of 7” gems. When I thought about starting DC, I had a list of around 100 album tracks I wished I had as a 7” 45. Now 5 years (2022) later my list of 7” delights have become true. In the late 80s, I picked up the Frank Strazzeri “After the Rain” LP, which totally blew me away. Now, all these years later, these three magical choons have the honour of being my 100th release.

Jon Lucien is one of the most amazing vocal soul singers, nicknamed ‘the man with the golden throat’; he also had his own percussive style, and was prolific in the 70’s writing many timeless classics over the years. Dynamite Cuts are proud to add these two wicked bangers to the Dynamite Cuts 45s series. The Legendary ‘Larry Young’s Fuel’, club classic “Turn of the Lights” mega rare 7” version, which was issued back in the 70’s on the dreaded Styrene (which always snapped so easily). Now for the first time on vinyl with its iconic sleeve. Plus, a quirky, funky vocal track “People do be funny” first time on 45. Another must-have 45.

Welcome to the jazz funk world of the late great Mr Weldon Johnathan Irvine. This great man managed to write music that both inspired and in awed 50 years ago, as it still does today. He takes you to another world, with his gentle yet almost crazy energy. He was way ahead of his time producing these monumental, instrumental masterpieces. Mr Irvine was such a calm and kind gentleman, who just oozed music. He sadly passed away in 2002. It is a great honour to be able to release some of his music from his Nodlow music label on to 7” for the first time.

In 1974 Weldon released his “In Harmony” LP. The two tracks we chose are, “Fat Mouth” which, as expected, features the signature Weldon rift. This Clavinet-heavy groove is backed up with the mighty Joe Jones on Hammond organ; and is all held steady with the pumping drums from Napoleon Revels
“Turkish Bath” is a laid-back jazz groove, with Weldon laying down a superb lead Rhodes story and melody. Backed up with Joe Jones on the piano. Weldon’s keyboard echoes throughout his music with such simplicity.

Back in the 80s I became a big funk, jazz, and soul vinyl collector; which opened the incredible world of the late, great Mr. Weldon Johnathan Irvine. Back in the 90s I was lucky enough to meet him; Mr. Irvine was such a calm and gentle person; he just oozed music. This laidback, kind quality resonates in his music. On this 45, we trip through the jazzy journey of Weldon’s innovative keyboard work through to the double bass, and horns on the A. On the B we’re in a smoky bar, with yer homies,, chillin n grooving, as the melodica and guitar head-nod us along. Sublime.

It is a great honour to be able to release some of his music from his Nodlow music label on to 7” for the first time.

“Why Can’t People Be Colors Too?” (first released 1972) is a powerful, soulful vocal with a story to tell; one that is, sadly, still so relevant today. It’s laid-back feel, with its bassy vibe; and sassy, sultry vocals takes you on the perfect mid-tempo ride. Half way through, you’ve got the superb sample vibe; already sampled by ‘A Tribe Called Quest’ (& many others).

First on the flip, is “Souling with the Whatnauts”; this is a mid-tempo, essential DJ tool. Backed up with the classic “Message from a black man”. Another emotionally powerful, soul song.

Dynamite cuts 45s series is proud to release two more Jazz fusion gems by the wonderful Judy Roberts. With her amazing jazz fusion keyboard skills and dreamy vocals this single is a must. Both tracks are first time on 45. First released back in 1980 on the Inner City label over 42 years ago.

Four tracks from this timeless LP are now on 7” for the first time. Originally released in 1977, this LP is now massive with the collectors, and is in the ‘must-have’ category. The incredible ‘Bad Deal’ (my personal favorite), and, yes, the outstanding, “Talkin about love”, are both on there. Steve Parks’ big song on this LP is the epitome of Rare groove music in the 90s. almost every club and radio would play this every night – it would be banging out of The Mud Club, Astoria, The Wag and all the other hot, sweaty, but very brilliant, clubs of the 80’s and 90’s. This is definitely on the ultimate soundtrack to that funky era.
This one-off LP and it iconic cover by Steve Parks has been reissued before but never as a 7” and never with a full colour sleeve, Dynamite Cuts’ mini version does both, delivering op-point artwork and finely tuned mastering. Steve Parks is a very private man; this iconic cover only happened because his friend Rico, who coerce him into wearing the shirt as Steve didn’t like it at all. The only way to do it was to take him to Leon’s BBQ by the beach and buy them both a bucket of tips and corn bread.

Dynamite Cuts are proud to have the opportunity of presenting this amazing Dj dance floor diamond, by the legendary funk n soul band S.O.U.L. “Burning Spear” is an upbeat Drum and Bass groove with a super funky flute and all time classic sample. Sampled by hip greats like Pete rock & C.L Smooth & Organized Konfusion to name a few, a pure rare-groove club anthem, I remember those nights, funky-ing down to this awesome rhythm.
Dynamite Cuts’ issue of this monster, is a double-sider of the ultimate versions of “Burning Spear”. The A side cut is taken from the superb “What it is?” LP. On the B-side is the rare and more collectable version; slightly different, more percussive recording which was released on 7” in 1971 on the Musicor record label, but sadly on the hissing, breakable styrene, and not on the lovely VINYL. You’d be lucky to find a copy that doesn’t hiss, pop and crackle. But with thanks to; Mr Simon Watson, who had a mint stock copy almost un-played; and to the A-Lister Dynamite Cuts’ mastering magicians - Andy Pearce (de-noises) and Stuart Hawkes (remastering to get that full-on funk effect). Now what are the chances of that!!!
The name S.O.U.L means Sounds Of Unity and Love, consists of four men from Cleveland, Ohio USA, the band was formed around 1970.
