Demon presents the second volume of the Tim Burgess Listening Party compilation. Following on from the success of
2024’s listening party, Tim is back with a further 24 eclectic cuts. This 2LP collection is pressed on blue translucent
vinyl, bringing together 24 further highlights from the 1,278 Listening Parties that took place.
The parties themselves were an eclectic mix of genres and eras, and the compilation reflects that with track from Paul
McCartney, The Magic Numbers, Ibibio Sound Machine, Róisín Murphy, Iron Maiden, Laurie Anderson and Norah
Jones.
“I’d done Charlatans listening parties and some solo album listening parties, and as the Twitter followers grew, I’d
repeat it and do it again and again. It was maybe about a week before being told that we were going to go into a
lockdown before we actually did something. I saw all the TV stuff, all the kind of crazy things that were happening and
thought if there’s going to be a lockdown, there’s going to be something that I can do.”

nights on Absolute Radio.

Die erste EP von Bleed, "Somebody's Closer", wurde von der Band im Jahr 2021 zunächst selbst über digitale Plattformen veröffentlicht. Die selbstbetitelte LP von Bleed behält die melodische Schwere und die straffen Songstrukturen der EP bei, taucht aber gleichzeitig kopfüber in den ozeanischen Dunst ein und treibt ihren Sound in ein Gebiet, das eindringlicher, unerbittlicher und hypnotisch üppig ist. David Janeway’s 1986 independent release Entry Point is a gathered and stylish offering of fusion jazz, flitting between Latin, modal and spiritual themes. Featuring desirable cameos from the likes of Bob Berg, Steve Berrios and Marcus Belgrave, the album comprises seven tracks, six of which are original Janeway compositions.

Self-released in 1986, Entry Point didn’t initially make a splash and fell into relative obscurity, only to be discovered by rare jazz collectors and dealers many years later. Upon contacting David with a view to potentially reissue Entry Point, he revealed that he had original sealed copies of the release in his possession – a record which has commanded high prices in jazz dealer circles. We have exclusively imported the last of the original stock: what you’ll get here are original, sealed copies from 1986, pressed up on David’s New Direction label. They are all in mint condition, sealed in their original shrink wrapping, and extremely limited in quantity, with only forty copies in stock.

Entry Point is a beautiful album full of outstanding musicianship, dedication, craft and audible passion, informed by the many diverse musical stylings of its time and gathered by the overarching sonic maturity and discipline of jazz. A true classic of its ilk, and a one-of-a-kind album that is an absolute must for any discerning jazz collector, a newly discovered gem that is long overdue recognition for the outstanding piece of work that it truly is.

"“I Know It’s Too Late” is an unreleased track from Scott Weiland’s 2008 solo album, Happy In Galoshes. The B-side is a live version of “Missing Cleveland” recorded on the Happy In Galoshes tour in 2009. This is the first in a series of RSD exclusive 7” singles leading up to a full deluxe album release with additional bonus content. This album has never been available on vinyl.

2025 is the 10th anniversary of Scott’s passing. Primary Wave is honoured to release this unheard content to celebrate his music and legacy. Happy in Galoshes is the second solo album by Scott Weiland - known for his roles as the lead singer in Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver. He released his first solo album, 12 Bar Blues in 1998. Ten years later, Happy in Galoshes served as the official follow-up. The album was released November 25, 2008, on Weiland's own Softdrive Records. Produced by Doug Grean and Weiland, with select tracks recorded by Steve Albini, the album features guest appearances by Paul Oakenfold and No Doubt members Adrian Young, Tony Kanal, and Tom Dumont. Oakenfold appears on a cover of David Bowie's "Fame".

Cincinnatian blues stalwart Albert Washington was a prolific recording artist from the 60s to the 90s. His ‘I’m The Man’ has become a New Breed R&B classic, which despite several US and UK releases, including our Kent one in 2003, is still eagerly sought out by people willing to pay whatever it takes.

‘Case Of The Blues’ is a similarly hip R&B dancer that was first issued on the Rye label in 1971. This slightly earlier Fraternity version is very similar.

Embark on a funky synth-drenched journey as the cosmic count Jimi Tenor reunites with Timmion Records' soul architects Cold Diamond & Mink for yet another album. When placed side by side with the fellows' recent effort "Is There Love In Outer Space? "July Blue Skies" glides on a slightly more raw and mystical plane. Crafted over fiery sessions between Tenor and Cold Diamond & Mink, this vinyl release offers six soul-grasping tracks ranging from mellow groove to soundtrack funk. The album's opening title song kicks off with an extended analog synth intro which eventually develops into a sweet romantic invocation, painting a sonic canvas reminiscent of a boundless summer sky. The most vocal tune of this quite instrumental set of songs "Sky Train Baby" propels the listener on a locomotive ride through the star systems while "Venus of Barsoon" with its drum breaks and fuzz sounds blast you straight into sci fi movie funk territory. The album's B-side opens with "Ikuchi," where Tenor's always trusted flute and tenor sax take the spotlight over the slinky library beats. Closing the album we discover two single releases, the sublime "Summer Of Synesthesia" and the demonic "Tsicroxe" both completely worthy to hear sequenced inside this album as well. This album might be just the Spring jam that you needed in your life.

Placenta is the fourth collection of broadly imaginative and highly collaborative Carlos Niño & Friends music released on International Anthem since 2021. But perhaps more notably for the zeitgeist of today, it is the first new music to be released by Carlos Niño & Friends following the November 2023 release of André 3000’s New Blue Sun – an album which Carlos produced alongside André, while co-writing, performing, and co-mixing every song. The announcement of Placenta also comes while Carlos is in the middle of tours with André to support New Blue Sun, where Carlos wields an immense presence as music director, bandleader, and percussionist, and performs alongside many of the same musicians that are present on his recent & Friends albums, including this new one.

Placenta is announced on the 1st solar return of Moss Niño, of whom Carlos and his partner Annelise are Earth parents. Their experience of pregnancy, labor and delivery were all profoundly impactful for Carlos. Becoming a father again (a whole 25 years after the birth of Azul Niño, who has become a regular artistic collaborator for Carlos) he felt total Inspiration for this set of recordings, and hence it is perhaps the most conceptually-grounded Carlos Niño & Friends album we've yet to present–fully connected to the spirit of family, birth, and "how we get here."

In Niño’s words, Placenta is “dedicated to Mothers, Children, Babies, Aunties, Doulas, Midwives, Birthworkers...,” and a short list of track titles includes: "Love to all Doulas!," "Some Rest for the Midwives," "Real Vital Organs," and "Generous Pelvis." The centerpiece of the album, the sprawling "Placenta, Nourishment, New Home, The Galaxy," is an unbelievably vivid immersion in the sonic architecture of Niño's memory-scape...like being present in his energy field...or being present in a birthing room, or maybe even being born yourself. In the year since it was first released on Hell Yeah, Aura Safari and Jimi Tenor's Sensory Blending has become a cult modern classic. To celebrate its conquering of Balearic heads and jazz funk hearts everywhere, it now arrives on green transparent vinyl.

The album came about after a chance meeting when Finnish musician Jimi Tenor was playing a Hell Yeah party in Perugia. He had some free time so was hooked up with local collective Aura Safari. It was the first time they had ever met but that didn't stop magic from happening in the studio and giving rise to this lush, rich, life-affirming album.

Tenor is no stranger to collaboration. He has previously worked with Japanese master Calm, regularly plays with Cold Diamond & Mink and has explored psychedelic space-jazz-funk fusion over more than 25 albums and 45 EPs. Marion Walter Jacobs (May 1, 1930 – February 15, 1968), known as Little Walter, was an American blues musician, singer, and songwriter, whose revolutionary approach to the harmonica and impact on succeeding generations earned comparisons for him to such seminal artists as Django Reinhardt, Charlie Parker and Jimi Hendrix. His virtuosity and musical innovations fundamentally altered many listeners’ expectations of what was possible on blues harmonica. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008 in the category Sideman, the only artist to be inducted specifically as a harmonica player.

For years regulars at Al’s Tavern might murmur to each other about Dean Johnson behind the bar. There were nudges and whispers that he might just be the best songwriter in town. They spoke of his talent like a family secret –Seattle folklore. How many times, and for how many years, did Dean elusively reply to some variation of the question, “When will there be a record?”

In May of 2023, there finally was. Nothing For Me, Please, Dean Johnson’s debut album, was released on his 50th birthday.

Where's Joao Donato? It's a frequently asked question, referring simultaneously to the physical location and the musical moment he inhabits. A sampling of some of his more descriptive song titles suggests Donato's comfort with musical hybrids: "Bluchanga," "Sambolero," and "Sambongo," to name just a few. Lacking a formal genre for his style of music, Donato's is a distinct sound, immediately recognizable from the first few bars of any of his compositions. He was funky back when "funk" was a bad word (listen to either of his 1960s Brazilian LPs, Sambou, Sambou and The New Sound if Brasil, for proof). His compositions are deceptively simple, while his arrangements are harmonically complex, revealing their intricate details upon repeat listening. Today, Donato brings this flavor, now near synonymous with his name, to a new album in the Jazz Is Dead series with Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad: Joao Donato JID007. "Donato is one of the greatest Brazilian composers from that golden era. His signature style, simple melodies combined with colorful chordal progressions, establishes a new lane for Jazz Is Dead," explains Younge. "Joao is one of the most innovative Brazilian jazz composers of the last century. Creating with and learning from this maestro was one of the greatest experiences of my career."

Deutschland, deine Städte. Der Schauplatz aller Songs und Erzählungen des Berliner Duos Die Anteile ist klar umrissen: Sie interessieren sich für die dunklen Ränder, für Ecken, in denen lange niemand mehr gekehrt hat. Holzvertäfelte Eckkneipen, asphaltierte Garagenhöfe, aber auch mitten in die Scheinwerfer blicken sie, die ihr Licht werfen auf alles, was einmal subversiv und anders war. "Pelzwerk", das nun bei Tapete Records erscheinende Debütalbum der Anteile, wurde geschrieben in einem feuchten Berliner Kellerraum. Einige Meter unter der Erde erblickte eine Vielzahl an Figuren das Licht, die auch einem düsteren Varietétheater entstammen könnten: Nazi-Erben, die dem Sheriff hinterher reiten, Sammler, die Vergangenheiten in Vitrinen ausstellen und Zirkusdirektoren im Gewand von Bürgermeistern sind im "Pelzwerk" beschäftigt. Dabei sind Die Anteile keine Kinder von Traurigkeit: Das Debütalbum ist umspült von quirligen Synthielines, überschwänglichen Gitarrenriffs und liebevoll garniert mit allerlei Sounds aus dem Krautrock-Zauberkasten. "Ich beherrsche wenig / aber du würdest mir auch schon reichen", singen sie auf dem Titeltrack. Bass und Drum Machine zielen auf die Beine, die Stimme - mal als Sprechgesang, mal oddly elegant - auf den Kopf. Statt mit Diktatoren tanzen sie eher im 4-eck, packen den Vocoder aus und halten die tanzende Menge mit knarzigen Basslines in Schach. Die Anteile sind im Nebenberuf Gärtner:innen. Ungeachtet der heimischen Witterungsbedingungen pflanzen sie munter verschiedenste musikalische Gewächse an. Prominent im Rundbeet wurzeln die japanischen Elektropioniere von Yellow Magic Orchestra in der selben Erde wie Proto-Industrialisten der Marke Crash Course in Science und Pyrolator. Am Gartenzaun treiben Post Punk-Bands wie Talking Heads und Magazine Blüten, während im Nachbarbeet gerade neu mit Electroclash gedüngt wird. Reichlich Grünzeug also, sodass jeden Tag ein frischer Wildblumensalat den Weg aufs Die-Anteile-Buffet findet.

Jan Akkerman (b. 1946) stands apart as a singular figure in the realm of rock and beyond. A Dutch guitarist of unparalleled versatility, he earned international acclaim in 1973 when he topped the prestigious Melody Maker readers’ poll, surpassing icons like Eric Clapton (2nd), Jimmy Page (5th), and Carlos Santana (10th). His fame, however, has never defined his artistry. For Akkerman, it’s always been about the music—any genre, as long as it resonates. He’s a lifelong improviser who approaches each performance as a new adventure. Akkerman first rose to prominence with Focus, a band that embodied the grandiose instrumental rock spirit of the 1970s. Long compositions, dazzling technique, and adventurous arrangements made them a cornerstone of progressive rock. Despite the accolades, Akkerman remained true to his calling. When asked about his success, he has always brushed it aside, preferring to let his guitar do the talking. Side 1 of this record captures Akkerman’s stunning performance on July 10, 2011, at the Nile Hall in Rotterdam. Here, he showcases his ability to take listeners on a sonic journey. The mellow “Tranquilizer” offers a relaxed groove, followed by the heartfelt ballad “You Do Something to Me,” unfolding emotion without words. In “Piétons”—a gospel-tinged blues—trumpeter Eric Vloeimans delivers a fiery solo before the leader propels the piece into uncharted territory. Side 2 brings us back to an earlier moment, recorded in July 2005 at the Paul Acket Paviljoen in The Hague. “Streetwalker” delivers a funk-driven explosion featuring alto saxophonist Benjamin Herman, while “The Zebrah” sends Vloeimans soaring into the musical stratosphere, only to have Akkerman reignite the piece with blistering guitar lines, his band driving forward like a well-tuned Mercedes on an open highway. Akkerman’s live performances are as unpredictable as they are electrifying. Whether sharing the stage with legends or newcomers, his spontaneous creativity makes every concert unique—a master class in musical freedom. Jan Akkerman remains a touchstone for guitarists and fans alike, an authentic improviser whose name still elicits one universal response from any seasoned Dutch rock enthusiast: “He’s the best guitarist in the world.” The North Sea Jazz Concert Series includes officially licensed releases that will be released as standard on 180-gram white vinyl in a sleeve of heavy paper and printed on reversed board. The records are captured in mainly black-and-white artwork by Hans Pol in his signature style of the festival with inspiration from the covers of classic older jazz releases from the Blue Note label, for example. The liner notes are written by journalist and jazz expert Jeroen de Valk. For all recordings it’s a first time ever release on vinyl!
