Music From Memory is thrilled to present ‘Aquáticos’, a captivating new record from Los Angeles producer Eddie Ruscha and Brazilian guitarist Fabiano Do Nascimento. Blending Nascimento’s expressive, Afro-samba and choro-inflected guitar with Ruscha’s cosmic, groove-driven sound, ‘Aquáticos’ marks the start of a vibrant musical partnership—an organic, free-spirited collaboration full of interplay and vitality.

Conceived during the early 2020’s, ‘Aquáticos’ grew from a series of recording sessions in which the music unfolded naturally, in a state of effortless flow. Album opener ‘Nascer,’ the very first piece they recorded, captures such a moment perfectly: Nascimento’s 7- and 10-string nylon guitars weave seamlessly with Ruscha’s modular synths, drum machines, and vintage keyboards. Like much of Ruscha’s work under Secret Circuit and E Ruscha V, it is rich in lush, rhythmic textures—pulsing and bubbling with vibrant energy.

The initial session that produced the opening track set the tone for the record, establishing a template of intuitive interplay and musical freedom. His anthems 'Mais Que Nada' or 'Pais Tropical' are among two of the most ever listened Brazilian songs of all time. Ben's self-titled 1969 album is a true samba-soul masterpiece from one of Brazil's most creative voices. This isn't your typical late-'60s LP: Jorge Ben blends the hypnotic swing of samba with funk, psychedelia, and sun-soaked soul in a way that feels both classic and ahead of its time. Released in November 1969, this was Jorge Ben's sixth studio record, and his first back with the Philips label after a creative hiatus. He recorded it with the tight-knit, percussive groove of Trio Mocoto -- whose rhythms lock in beautifully with Ben's laid-back guitar and vocals. On top of that, the album features lush orchestral arrangements from Jose Briamonte and Rogerio Duprat, adding a soaring, psychedelic dimension to Ben's sound. Standout tracks? Während in vielen seiner früheren Aufnahmen das Klavier aus der Rhythmusgruppe herauszustechen schien, um es deutlich hervorzuheben, platziert Both Worlds Petrucciani bewusst innerhalb der Gruppe und macht den Pianisten zu einem integrierten Element des Ensembles, wodurch er der Anführer sein kann, ohne sich wie ein Anführer zu verhalten. Eine weitere Neuerung: Michel Petrucciani setzt die Bläser hier wie nie zuvor ein; sie treten nicht mehr nur als Solisten in Erscheinung, sondern in einem neuen Kontext, als Begleitung und Kontrapunkt. Singer and actress Fafá de Belém is one of Brazil’s most beloved and popular artists. This vinyl single from 1975 marked the very beginning of her long and successful career in Brazilian popular music and, over the years, has become a highly sought-after collector’s item among DJs worldwide.

The record features two tracks, ‘Êmoriô’ and ‘Naturalmente’, written by João Donato alongside Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso, originally released on his album “Lugar Comum” that same year. Fafá de Belém’s versions, however, strip away the originals’ sophisticated arrangements in favor of a more driving groove and a raw, funky edge that makes them absolute dancefloor weapons.

Banda Black Rio is a Brazilian musical group from Rio de Janeiro that was formed in 1976. They were one of the first to undertake the fusion of Essential Brazilian Music with International Black Music. The songs are based on funk but also including samba, jazz and Brazilian rhythms. Compared to other soul-funk groups, such as Kool & the Gang and Earth, Wind and Fire, Banda Black Rio developed a particular style of instrumental soul music fusing together elements from a number of genres. With saxophonist Oberdan Magalhães, trumpet player Barrosinho, Cristovão Bastos on keyboards, Claudio Stevenson on guitars, Jamil Joanes on bass and Lucio Silva on trombone. Arrangements are from Cristovão Bastos and Claudio Stevenson. The album “Saci Pererê” was originally released in 1980.

David Zé - Mutudi Ua Ufolo / Viúva da Liberdade is a major milestone in Angolan music, intensely blendingsemba, rumba, and bolero, recordedat the height of the country"s liberation struggle. Both soulful and political, the album resonates far beyond Luanda, carrying a universal spirit akin to that of Bob Marley. Originally released on CDA with Conjunto Merengue, it captures David Zé at his creative peak. Sung in Portuguese and local dialects, it combines rhythmic elegance with deep commitment, weaving links between Afro-Brazilian and Latin American traditions. After his assassination in 1977, the album was banned for several years, before being reborn as an essential work of resistance and beauty. In 2008, his legacy found a new echo when Damian Marley and Nas sampled "Undenge Uami" on Distant Relatives.

It's a sound that crosses borderlines, pulling everything from Brazilian samba to southern soul to British rock & roll into its orbit. On Don't Call Me Baby, Sabine filters those influences through the lens of her Haitian heritage and her music community of New Orleans, creating a debut album that's every bit as multi-faceted as the woman who wrote its songs.

The daughter of first-generation Haitian immigrants, Sabine was raised in the suburbs of New York City, where she grew up alongside her sister Leyla McCalla (Sons of Our Native Daughters, Carolina Chocolate Drops). Introduced to chamber music at an early age, Sabine began playing classical violin in orchestras, music camps, and conservatory classes as an 8 year old. Back at home, she filled her head with Motown classics, girl group hits, Bob Marley albums, Beatles standards, and Haitian folk music.
