Providence sees the British producer collaborate with vocalists for the first time, joining forces with Prurient (aka Vatican Shadow / founder of Hospital Productions) and Raphaelle Standell-Preston from Braids. Both arose from chance meetings in Geneva and Osaka as their tour schedules crossed. Prurient contributed the heavily distorted vocal to 'DEGREELESSNESS' - I was a huge fan of Dominic's (Prurient) music before we met and I love the way he situates his vocals in his productions. I really like how you can't make out what he's saying at all...' - whilst Raphaelle, who lends her voice to 'RVK', was introduced to Nathan by their mutual friend Jon Hopkins. I deliberately kept the first half of the track instrumental and I love the way her vocal lands,' he says. It's quite unexpected when she starts singing.'

It's the quickest album I've written and because of that it's got a close thread running throughout,' says Nathan of his creative process. It also has a distinct sonic signature as a result of the producer refreshing his set-up. I was feeling nostalgic and bought a cheap Korg Prophecy on a whim and it ended up being the backbone of the album,' he explains. I remember reading an article in Sound On Sound back in 1995-96 and I didn't really know much about music production then, but I remember thinking that it must be AMAZING. As it turns out, it's actually quite crap really... It's very hard to program, looks unimpressive, doesn't sound great (laughs), but I recorded it through loads of different pre-amps and tape and mixers and roughed it up. I'm always intrigued by low-end gear, I like the challenge and the limitations it poses.'

Norfolk born and bred, Nathan's first encounters with electronic music came via the radio (hearing the likes of Aphex Twin and Orbital) and reading about the equipment that they used in magazines. This was the stimulus for him to buy some gear and begin his own sonic experiments and, linking with James Holden in 2003, Nathan's early output came via his fledgling Border Community label. His debut album Drowning In A Sea Of Love' (2006) was a triumphant record, drawing a rapturous reception from the likes of Pitchfork, The Guardian and Mixmag (who hailed it among the best of the year). Recording two further albums for Border Community, Hard Islands' (2009) and Steam Days' (2012), Nathan found himself in frantic touring mode for two years and, in this nomadic state, found it impossible to write any new music. On his return, events in his personal life intertwined with, and exacerbated, this creative block. I didn't write any music at all for about two years,' Nathan explains. Overall there was roughly a three year break from writing.'

Emerging from this extended period of inactivity with renewed vigour and lust for life, Providence was recorded during the first six months of 2016 in Nathan's home studio / living room. The meaning behind the title is two-pronged: on the one hand it's a nod to the aforementioned Korg Prophecy synth that features so heavily on the record. But on a deeper level it means guidance or divine guidance' - not necessarily in a religious sense but more to be guided by a higher power - or more specifically to Nathan, music as therapy and a path out of a dark period in his life.

Kurt Wagner fand sich im schwülen Sommer 2021 in Minneapolis in einer stillgelegten Farbenfabrik wieder, die zum Proberaum umfunktioniert wurde, als noch jeder jeden als potenzielle Krankheitsquelle betrachtete. Er vertraute sich diesem Pianisten, Andrew Broder, und seinem genialen Produktionspartner Ryan Olson an. "Ryan und Andrew sind wie zwei Seiten meiner Persönlichkeit", sagt Wagner. "Und wenn man sie als Team zusammenbringt, repräsentieren sie mich." Es wäre das erste Mal, dass Wagner eine Lambchop-Platte von jemand anderem produzieren lässt - noch dazu von jemandem, der keinerlei Verbindung zum heiligen, alten Nashville hat. Es war in dieser stillgelegten Lackfabrik in Minneapolis, wo Wagner einen Haufen ausgebrannter Freaks beim Spielen ihrer Instrumente beobachtete, die ihn zum Schreiben von The Bible brachten. Following on from the stunning recording of her 1992 performance at the Berlin Parampara Festival (BT079), Black Truffle is pleased to continue its documentation of the work of Berlin-based Italian singer Amelia Cuni, one of the great contemporary exponents of dhrupad, the oldest surviving style of North Indian classical vocal music. Beautifully recorded in concert at Vishweshwarayya Hall, Mumbai. 04.02.1996 presents expansive performances of three ragas stretching across four sides and almost one and a half hours of music. Beginning with the serene Raga Lalit, Cuni dwells for over twenty-five minutes on its opening alap movement, accompanied only by tanpura, her limpid yet full-bodied voice moving from graceful exposition in free tempo to increasingly rhythmically active variations, gradually spiralling upward in register. She is then joined by master pakwahaj player Manik Munde for the raga’s dhrupad and dhamar sections, the resonant tone of the drum and his constant invention with the complex 14-beat cycle serving as the perfect accompaniment for Cuni’s ecstatic melodic developments. On the more solemn Raga Bhairav, Cuni’s alap, again stretching out over a whole side, is particularly notable for its powerful held notes and mastery of microtonal movement of pitch. After Munde returns for another rhythmically intricate dhamar movement, the record ends with the buoyancy of the Raga Alhaiya Bilaval, whose mode has, for the Western listener, an unmistakably ‘major’ quality. The rapturous applause that greets the performance is reflected in a remarkable selection of press clippings contemporary with the recording, which demonstrate Cuni’s success with Indian critics. Arriving in a gorgeous gatefold featuring stunning colour photographs of Cuni taken by legendary Australian fashion photographer Robyn Beeche (who resided in India from the early 90s), Mumbai. 04.02.1996 is a document of indescribable beauty and a moving testament to music’s ability to cross national and cultural borders.

"Layers Of Lies", aufgenommen im Winter 2004/2005, war das erste selbst produzierte DARKANE-Album. Ein neues Studio war gebaut worden und die Band verbrachte Abende und Wochenenden dort, um ihr viertes Album fertigzustellen.

Das Ziel war es, eine Mischung aus den früheren drei Alben mit einem brutaleren und futuristischeren Sound zu schaffen. "Wir wollten unseren Sound weiterentwickeln und dabei unserem Stil treu bleiben", erklärte Christofer in vielen Interviews.

Es wurde viel Arbeit in die Gesangsarrangements gesteckt und Andreas Sydow klang mit seinem aggressiven Gebrüll besser als je zuvor. Für das bombastische und doch eindringliche Intro "Amnesia Of The Wildoerian Apocalypse" wurden wieder einmal ein Chor und ein Orchester engagiert.

"Songwriting-mäßig hält DARKANE die Dinge relativ einfach im Sinne von Strophe-Refrain-Verse, lässt aber nicht die Intensität für irgendwelche Flüster/Crooner-Strophen oder Crossover-Tracks sinken. Songs wie "Fading Dimensions" und "Secondary Effects" enthalten rasante Thrash-Tempi und einprägsame Refrains in diesem völlig synthetischen, aber seltsam ansprechenden melodischen Robotergeschrei... Letztendlich ist "Layers Of Lies" ein eingängiger, ansteckender, unwiderstehlicher, charismatischer Arschtritt von einem Album!"
Nach der Veröffentlichung von "Layers Of Lies" im Herbst 2005 produzierten DARKANE ein Video für den Track "Secondary Effects" und gingen anschließend auf ihre erste abendfüllende US-Tournee mit Fear Factory, Strapping Young lad und Soilwork, die für die Band sehr erfolgreich war.

A violin, a fife, and the endless sky opens up to us. Two voices cross it, a duet of swallows playing their perpetual encounters, joined by percussion that crashes like waves on jagged coasts. This is the opening of the album Déliryom, the beginning of this "watia watia" - meaning joyful mess or tasty mishmash, opened by six "zoreys": in Reunion Island Creole, it means metropolitan people from France. But these zoreys claim their creolity as a family of the heart, a chosen homeland. And they celebrate it. Rosemary Standley (Moriarty) and Marjolaine Karlin met at a concert where Reunionese maloya was resounding in Paris. It was in 2008, and their fascination for the island, its rhythms, its language born for poetry was bound to bring them together. A character too, a majestic poet and celestial wanderer, who for them would be a spiritual father - Alain Peters. Or rather his ghost, since he died in 1995 of a heart attack, leaving behind a daughter and some twenty songs that have shaped a fertile horizon for all the musicians of the Reunion Island... and elsewhere! Six years after giving birth to their first album (Zanz in Lanfèr, 2016), the two singers continue this great journey, exploring other pieces forged over the years, always alongside percussionist and rhythm doctor Salvador Douézy, and new zoreys who have joined them. There is Gérald Chevillon, who plays bass saxophone, Chadi Chouman as a guitarist who has no equal in awakening the colors of his native East, and finally Jennifer Hutt, whose energetic violin evokes the Cajun colors of New Orleans. For even if this new album tells of other facets of the Peters totem, it also ventures towards other Creole lands, other islands where music and song are much more than entertainment: they are a way of being in the world.

Forged in Hell’s Fire, November 2018 Singapore, by SHYAITHAN – Guitars (also from IMPIETY). The band at present consists of long time komrades HADES - Vocals (also from and founder of BATTLESTORM), ASURA – Guitars (also from and founder of DEUS EX MACHINA), CRYPTOR – Bass (ex-founding member of DEMISOR) and lastly DIZAZTER on Drums (also from IMPIETY/ DEPRAVITY). XUL ANTICHRISTO from INFERNAL EXECRATOR held Vocal duties at the very beginning, but had to leave after the first EP recording due to his tight schedule (work commitment). DEVOUROR defines it’s sonic wrath arrogantly as ‘Bestial Deathcult Warfare’ with late 80s/early 90s influence from Possessed, Sarcofago, Necrovore, Blasphemy, Death, Sodom. With this being said, DEVOUROR is Not a project of sorts, but a brutal 5 Beast Blackened Metal of Death Squadron that scoffs, hacks and slays the rest of mediocre rubbish that currently saturates the underground. All members are Veteran Diehards with filthy back-grounds of over 25 long years of dedication and commitment raising the old glorious flag of unholy Black Death!

One of the most violent thrash metal albums ever! Raging riffs, outraging drums, screaming solos and totally pissed vocals. Total aggression! Death metal wouldn’t sound like it does without that album. Then the 10 tracks on this legendary album... Let’s start with Side A: The opener “Malleus Maleficarum/Anthropomorphia” sets the tone and remains a classic to this day, with a switch after 50 seconds and then a full on thrash attack only comparable to the best and most intense moments on “Pleasure to Kill”. The mid-tempo part and the solo’s/leads are haunting still and hint at more melodies to come in the future. “Parricide” is brutal Thrash, surely echoing a bit of Slayer/Infernal Majesty as well, but just very intense and brutal. Next up is “Subordinate to the Domination”, another bulldozer song, that simply pounds you into ashes, very thrashy, but also brutal. As a short intermezzo we get “Extreme Unction”, which with it’s one and a half minute echoes a bit the crossover/thrash metal attitude of the late 80’s, and it is in its intensity and compactness a strange, yet fitting track that leads us to the closing song on Side A of the LP (yep, bands did think on closers on album sides when vinyl was the standard)... “Commandments” that is, starting with its acoustic intro, fully bursting out after 35 seconds into one of the standout songs of this album, to some possibly the best song on the album (who am I to disagree) because it is one of those brutal thrash songs that is among the best ever recorded, and a song that everyone knew back then, because of the “Stars on Thrash” compilation.

The End of the Ocean has joined forces with Post Recordings to offer up a revisited and remastered version of In Excelsis. This one comes on lovely 180 gram coloured vinyl and is limited to 200 copies. It is a classic bit of post-rock that is notable not only for the musicianship, complex songwriting and subtle pop sensibilities in a monist the big walls of fuzzy and textural guitars but also because the band had two female members. The Columbus, Ohio outfit dropped the album originally in June of 2012 but the ensuing decade has done nothing to diminish its charms nor originality,

"I grew up loving all different kinds of music. I loved everyone from Elvis to the Eagles to Merle Haggard to Earth, Wind and Fire to Queen. As a songwriter, I’ve had not only the great opportunity but pretty decent success writing songs in multiple genres. I felt it was finally time to embrace the same opportunity not only as a writer but as a singer. It’s my voice that supplies the common thread of all the different types of songs I wrote for this album”, says Richard. Songwriter showcases four sides of Richard Marx with 20 brand new songs crossing four musical genres - Pop, Rock, Country and Ballads on red colored double vinyl. Geir Sundstøl: Strings With: Maria Due, Daniel Sandén Warg, Audun Erlien, Nikolai Hængsle, Håkon Brunborg, Lars Horntveth, Hans Hulbækmo, Gulzar Butt, Kjell Pop, Jarle Bernhoft, Chimta Raja Abdul, Sofi Jonas, Bashir Rydhem, Erland Dahlen.Geir Sundstøl has made a name for himself as an innovative session musician on hundreds of Norwegian and international albums. 2015 saw the release of Furulund, the first self-composed long player from this Master of Strings. Langen Ro, Norwegian Grammy winner Brødløs and St.Hanshaugen Steel, followed soon after. Now, the stage is set for something quite different. The Studio Intim Sessions, Volume 1, Sundstøl's fifth solo album, has taken a trip on its own, away from the cinematic Nordic noir and genre-crossing soundscapes we know, and ended up somewhere south of the Kattegat.

Los Angeles-bred "SoCal Country" singer Sam Outlaw will release a pedal
steel-stamped, new wave-inspired record titled 'Popular Mechanics'
Solely writing seven of the album's 11 tracks, Outlaw fuses the sounds of his
favorite artists of the '80s - Kenny Loggins, Cyndi Lauper, Tom Petty - with stories
influenced by the great innovators of the 20th century and the engineers that
make up his own family tree. The ambitious direction of 'Popular Mechanics' may
seem like a sudden shift from Outlaw's country-leaning albums, 'Angeleno' (2015)
and 'Tenderheart' (2017), which garnered appearances on CBS Saturday
Morning's Anthony Mason, NPR, The New Yorker, Wall Street Journal and more,
but the gears actually started turning in early 2018 after Outlaw shelved some
new material he recorded in Southern California. Following his cross- country
move to Music City that same year, Outlaw found unexpected inspiration during a
visit from his father, a mechanical engineer, and it prompted him to shift his focus
to the technological side of music creation. The epiphany came when he
connected industrial machines with the role technology plays in recorded music.
Growing up on the hits of the '80s, an incredible time of transformation in music
history, he remembers everything came into focus for the album once he
envisioned the title, 'Popular Mechanics`

Following on from the success of 2020's deluxe reissue of 'Vienna',
Chrysalis Records are proud to release a 40th Anniversary of the bands
second album with Midge Ure, 'Rage In Eden'
Originally released in October 1981 and like the bands previous two albums, it
was produced by Conny Plank (Kraftwerk, Can, Neu!), this time recorded at
Conny's studio in Cologne during the summer of '81.
This new 6 Disc box set contains 52 tracks, with 22 previously unreleased
recordings. CD's 1 to 5 contain the original 1981 album production master, a new
stereo mix by Steven Wilson, A-sides, B-sides & live tracks along with previously
unreleased cassette rehearsals and a newly mixed concert recorded at
Hammersmith Odeon in October 1981. The DVD (Audio Only) contains a new 5.1
Surround Sound Mix of the Album/B-sides by Steven Wilson along with 24/96 HiRes audio of the new mixes and the original 1980 Master/B-sides.
The set is packaged in a 12"x12" Rigid Slipcase and contains a 20 page 12"
square booklet featuring contributions from the band, unseen photos from Midge
Ure's and Chris Cross' personal collection, reproduction of the Rage In Eden tour
programme, 6 discs in card wallets housed in two 12" gatefold album sleeves.
