The recent find of four Joe Graham recordings in the GRC/Aware tapes has shown there was much more to Joe’s talents than the southern soul of his 60s Chant recordings and the synthesiser, electro pop he recorded for various Atlanta labels in the 80s. ‘Higher Than High’ is a soulful disco number featuring a relentless beat. The track already has a strong following, thanks to advance plays in Europe and the UK from DJ Dave Thorley. This track, along with three other numbers, were recorded around 1976 for the GRC stable – just as the company was floundering so badly that the songs were left as unmixed multi-track tapes. Now mixed the demand for this one will be high.

We’ve taken the opportunity of including another excellent, unreleased at the time, recording from the revered John Edwards. ‘It’s Got To Be The Real Thing For Me This Time’ is an uptempo Sam Dees song, unheard until the 1990s release of the first batch of GRC/Aware tapes

• Clydene Jackson’s 1975 debut LP for Ray Charles Crossover imprint failed to make much noise on its release. It is largely a smooth jazz-based album, half the tracks of which were written by Clydene. One track, in particular, broke the sophisticated music mould and was picked up by UK DJs on the Modern Soul scene.

• ‘I Need Your Love’ became popular in the UK and eventually Europe, leading to the track’s release on a single-sided 45 in 2001 That pressing did not satisfy demand however and the song’s popularity has continued to grow and grow. Kent are making it available with the excellent ‘We’re In Love’, another self-penned track from the same LP, on the flip.

Augustus Muller (Boy Harsher) hat sich erneut mit Four Chambers zusammengetan, um CELLULOSED BODIES zu veröffentlichen, das die beiden Scores Crash und Automation enthält und über das Label Nude Club Records erscheint. Crash und Automation demonstrieren Mullers Beherrschung strenger, industrieller Klangwelten. Muller geht jedoch noch einen Schritt weiter, indem er Club-Elemente wie Nu-Disco-Tendenzen und Vocal-Samples einführt. Auf diese Weise greift er das Thema Körper und Maschine auf, das auch in den visuellen Inhalten der Filme behandelt wird. Crash ist eine Hommage an David Cronenbergs gleichnamigen Film von 1996. Sowohl Ashley als auch Cronenberg erforschen die Erotik von Autounfällen, ein Fetisch, der sowohl mechanisch als auch blutig wirkt. Diese gewalttätige Gegenüberstellung ist die eigentliche Inspiration für Muller. Body and Machine" aus Crash ist eine pulsierende Synthie-Hymne, die sowohl synthetische Echos als auch verspielte Highlights enthält. "Perverse Technology" ist eine groovige und disharmonische Nummer, während "Sharing a Smoke" eine düstere Strenge hat, man kann fast sehen, wie die Hände über Ledersitze gleiten, Glasscherben auf verschwitzte Körper prallen und Küsse mit offenem Mund im Scheinwerferlicht.

Mit wenig mehr als einer unerbittlichen Reihe von Live-Auftritten und einem zweimal gepressten (und anschließend ausverkauften) selbstbetitelten Demo hat sich die in New York ansässige Band Lathe of Heaven als ein starkes und zusammenhängendes Element inmitten der Flut von Punk und synthiegetriebenem Pop-Revival erwiesen, das derzeit im US-Underground wuchert. Die 2021 gegründete Band setzt sich aus Mitgliedern bemerkenswerter Brooklyner Projekte wie Pawns, People's Temple, Porvenir Oscuro, Android, Hustler und anderen zusammen. Obwohl diese Liste vergangener und alternativer musikalischer Bestrebungen ein breites Spektrum an Genres und Fähigkeiten aufzeigt, kann Lathe of Heaven nur als eine Abkehr von solchen Einflüssen verstanden werden und erforscht einen völlig eigenen Sound. Nun, fast zwei Jahre später, sind Lathe of Heaven endlich bereit, ihr Debütalbum "Bound by Naked Skies" zu veröffentlichen. Die elf Tracks umfassende LP verbindet Elemente von düsterem britischem New-Wave und finnischem Post-Punk zu einer nuancierten Gegenüberstellung von 80er-Jahre-Soundwahn. "Bound by Naked Skies" greift Themen der klassischen und zeitgenössischen Science-Fiction auf, die den einzigartigen und bewussten Sound prägt, und verdankt seinen literarischen Einflüssen ebenso viel wie der Musik. Als kraftvolle Hommage an die unheimlichen Welten der Autoren Arthur C. Clarke, Octavia Butler, Ken Liu und natürlich Ursula Le Guin (nach deren Roman die Band benannt ist), verweben sich Themen der Kosmologie ("Ekpyrosis"), Simulation ("Heralds of the Circuit-Born"), Geisteskrankheit ("Moon-Driven Sea") und Ontologie ("Entropy", "The Spider" etc.), und ziehen sich wie ein roter Faden durch das Album. Ein Einblick in die Gedankenwelt derer, die von der Ungewissheit der erschreckenden und gar nicht so fernen Zukunft der Menschheit geplagt werden.

Am 25.08. ist es endlich soweit für Keir’s lang ersehntes Debüt Album.
Das self-titled Album umfasst 11 Songs, welche von Themen wie Herzschmerz über Mental Health bis hin zur hin zur Selbstfindung erzählen.

Der einzigartige Popkünstler Keir, aus Bath UK, bewegt sich zwischen den Genres und überzeugt durch seine authentische Art. Nach 12 Jahren bei DragonForce präsentiert Sänger MARC HUDSON sein erstes Soloalbum Starbound Stories, das am 25. August 2023 über Napalm Records erscheint. Starbound Stories ist ein packendes Animeinspiriertes Power Metal-Abenteuer mit Einflüssen von japanischer Musik und Videospiel-Soundtracks, die der Sänger gemeinsam mit einer Vielzahl von bemerkenswerten Gästen umsetzt.

Das instrumentale „As The Twilight Met The Sea“ eröffnet die phnantasievolle Klanglandschaften des Albums und wird von Samurai Metal-Meister Ryoji Shinomoto (RYUJIN, früher bekannt als Gyze) auf traditionellen japanischen Instrumenten begleitet. Yard Act veröffentlichen ihre brandneue Single ”The Trench Coat Museum”. Co-produziert von GorillazMitglied Remi Kabaka Jr., ist die Single die erste eigene Musik seit der Veröffentlichung ihres mit dem Mercury Prize ausgezeichneten Debütalbums „The Overload“ im Januar 2022.

Das Album zählt als bestverkauftes Album auf Vinyl des ersten Quartals 2022, The Sunday Times kürte es zum Album der Woche und Rolling Stone UK ernannte die britische Indie-Rock-Band zudem zur besten Band bei den Rolling Stone UK Awards.

Einige Singles wurden von Radiosendern wie BBC 6 Music als „Tune Of The Week“ ausgezeichnet, darunter „Payday“, „Pour Another“ und „100% Endurance“. Letztere wurde in einer speziellen Version mit PopIkone Elton John veröffentlicht. Das zugehörige Musikvideo wurde bei den letztjährigen UK Music Video Awards in den Kategorien Best Alternative Video und Best Performance in a Video nominiert.

"Matasuna Records" journey goes to "South Africa" for the first time to reissue two superb Afro-/Jazzfunk songs by the band "Freeway". Released in 1975 on the South African label "Flame", the album "Abahambi – Balomhlaba" was rediscovered and re-released by the good folks of "Black Pearl Records" from Berlin in 2013. The LP immediately landed on Matasuna Records' album best list and was at the top of the reissue wish list. Now that goal has come true to officially release two songs on 45, making them available as 7inch vinyl singles for the first time. Transferred from the original master tapes and remastered to sound as good as never before. An essential release!

The title track of the album "Abahambi" composed by "Sipho Gumede" and also the album opener is also the A-side of the Matasuna release. The song immediately builds up an incredible groove with the first bar and offers an atmospherically dense, 5-minute funk firework. The musicians master their instruments to perfection: be it in the collective playing as well as in the polished solo passages, where they can fully demonstrate their skills. One of the tunes that could run endlessly without ever getting boring.

On the flip side, the song "Umlazi" composed by "Enoch Mthalane" is another testament to the sophistication of their arrangements & musicality. Although this song is much slower in tempo, it is in no way inferior to the A-side in intensity. Especially the piano generates a hypnotic groove, which is skillfully continued by the guitar. Another musical treat!

The fact that the composers of the songs and musicians of the band are (or were) well-known greats of South African jazz music, but the album respectively the band name "Freeway" does not appear in any bio/discography is more than curious. Apparently it is considered proven that the band was founded by bass player "Sipho Gumede".

Born in "Durban" (South Africa), "Sipho Gumede" learned to play the guitar autodidactically until he received his first introduction to jazz from jazz guitarist "Cyril Magubane" at the age of 16. He switched to bass and then got his first professional music job as a member of the "Jazz Revellers" band. In 1970 he went to "Johannesburg" where he met, worked with and toured with some great musicians of that time. He formed several bands with some of them such as "Roots", "Spirits Rejoice" or "Sakhile". Gumede also recorded collaborative pieces with other jazz legends before recording his first solo album in 1985. In the following years he was involved in tours of North America, Europe, as well as many African countries. In 2000, Sipho moved back to "KwaZulu-Natal", where he taught music and performed for township youth. His artistic productivity did not stop there, however, and he produced a number of other albums. In total, he produced, recorded and contributed to more than 20 albums. He died in July 2004 after a short illness.

Die Band ging 2022 auf Tour und absolvierte u.a. eine 34 Shows umfassende äußerst erfolgreiche Tournee in Nordamerika mit Mercury Rev und The Magic Castles. Eine neue Tour zur Unterstützung des neuen Albums steht im Januar 2023 in Großbritannien an und wird im Februar in Europa fortgesetzt. Ursprünglich war Newcombe stark von der psychedelischen Phase der Rolling Stones beeinflusst - der Name stammt vom Stones-Gitarristen Brian Jones in Verbindung mit einer Anspielung auf den Sektenführer Jim Jones -, aber seit den 2000er Jahren hat sich seine Arbeit in vielen ästhetische Dimensionen ausgeweitet und sich u.a. dem britischen Shoegaze-Genre der 1990er Jahre annähert und Einflüsse aus Weltmusik, insbesondere der Musik des Nahen Ostens und Brasiliens, miteinbezieht.

Marbled Green & Black Vinyl! Das Album Turkish Leather des Detroiter Trios RITUAL HOWLS erzählt Geschichten, die so auch aus der Feder von Poe und Lovecraft kommen könnten. Auf ihrem Debüt für Felte, ,Turkish Leather" vermischen sie viele verschiedene Spielarten zu einem selbstbewussten Mission Statement. Die Sounds von Ben Saginaw und Chris Samuels erschaffen den Spielraum für die düsteren Texte von Paul Bancell. Die Einflüsse von RITUAL HOWLS reichen vom britischem Post-Punk über NICK CAVE bis zum Industrial von SKINNY PUPPY; die Band schafft es, diese Einflüsse mit Expertise zu vermischen. Field Recordings treffen auf Elektronik; auf ,Turkish Leather" verwandelt sich Sound Design in Pop. Viele der Tracks haben eine cinematische Reichweite, ob das das Industrialstück ,A Taste Of You" mit seiner Lynch'schen Barszene oder die Goth-Synthies von ,Take Me Up", einem langsam schwelenden Track, der sich zu einem Melodram mausert, sind. RITUAL HOWLS schaffen es, diese Einflüsse zu verbinden und absolut einzigartige morbide, roh und hart zu klingen. ,Turkish Leather" ist ein Album, das mit nichts hinter dem Berg hält; die Band kündigt sich mit dem Selbstbewusstsein harzgesottener Veteranen an.

"Mit Pfefferminz bin ich dein Prinz" ist das legendäre vierte Studioalbum von Westernhagen aus dem Jahr 1978. Es wird nun als 1LP auf 180g schwarzen Vinyl endlich wieder neu aufgelegt und erscheint am 11.08.. 'Wheelhouse Rag' is a 14- track collection of original rags and country blues on

The all- acoustic, 1920's- tinged 'Wheelhouse Rag' may at first seem like a
departure in genre for the guitarist - he is predominantly known for his
instrumental multitracked recordings reminiscent of Les Paul and Chet Atkins -
Joel learned to play guitar by ear from the records of acoustic legends such as
Blind Blake, Robert Johnson, Reverend Gary Davis, and Big Bill Broonzy. He later
expanded his repertoire to include techniques of the thumb-picking giants Merle
Travis and Chet Atkins. These influences can be heard throughout the album,
mixed in with many more twists and turns from the mind of the artist, to bring
you, 'Wheelhouse Rag:' the original fingerstyle guitar instrumentals of Joel
