Mit ihrem aktuellen Album "Gods Verging on Sanity" (2020) haben BLACK NAIL CABARET ein musikalisches Ausrufezeichen gesetzt. Obwohl die geplanten Touren der letzten zwei Jahren natürlich auch ein Opfer der Umstände wurden, ist es der Band allein durch Mundpropaganda dennoch gelungen, gestärkt aus der Krise hervorzugehen. Dies bietet eine hervorragende Gelegenheit, um ein frühes Juwel ihrer Bandgeschichte in neuem Glanz erscheinen zu lassen:

Als Sängerin Emèse Árvai-Illes und Keyboarder Krisztián Árvai das Album "Pseudopop" im Jahr 2018 auf ihrem eigenen Label veröffentlichten, hatten sie bereits Kunst, Pop, dunkle Harmonien und aufregende Elektronik organisch miteinander verschmolzen. So vergab der ungarische Journalist Mariusz Bari (Planet Damage) die Höchstpunktzahl (10)/10 und schrieb: "BLACK NAIL CABARET waren schon immer auf dem Weg, sich selbst zu perfektionieren, und dieses neueste Album ist der perfekte Beweis dafür, dass sie weder den Anschluss noch die Kontrolle dabei verloren haben."

Was BLACK NAIL CABARET markant von anderen Bands in ihrem Genre abhebt, ist ein Faible für sexuell explizite Provokationen. Dabei gelingt es den Ungarn niemals peinlich oder schlüpfrig zu wirken, sondern ihre gelebte BDSM-Wirklichkeit mit hohem ästhetischen Anspruch künstlerisch abzubilden. Wer in den Rohrschach-Klecksen auf dem Albumcover einen Frosch sieht, sollte vielleicht noch einmal hinsehen.

In eigenen Worten klingt das bei dem Duo wie folgt: "'Pseudopop' ist die Gesamtheit aller musikalischen Einflüsse, die unsere Leben beeinflusst und geprägt hat", schrieben BLACK NAIL CABARET. "Unabhängig von der Stilrichtung haben wir einfach unser Köpfe frei gemacht, uns vom Genregedanken verabschiedet und losgelassen. Es ist ein Hybrid aus dem Chaos, das in uns beiden steckt, und wir möchten meinen, dass im Ergebnis dabei avantgardistischer, zeitgenössischer Pop mit dunklen elektronischen Wurzeln als herauskam."

Bei der Erstveröffentlichung hatte "Pseudopop" bereits fast alles, was ein außergewöhnliches, hervorragendes Werk ausmacht. Es fehlte dem Album lediglich die Reichweite, um auch international die verdiente Beachtung zu finden. Mit dieser Neuauflage durch Dependent mit sorgfältigem Re-Mastering und einem Bonus-Track wird endlich das verdiente Rampenlicht auf BLACK NAIL CABARET und "Pseudopop" geworfen.

Liege Lord's fortunes took a turn for the better when California's rising Metal Blade Records signed on to release their sophomore album, Burn to My Touch, in 1987. Produced by Blue Öyster Cult bassist Joe Bouchard and with new guitarist Paul Nelson (a student of Steve Vai, no less), the album showed vast improvement over its predecessor, not only in terms of audio fidelity, but where the group's songwriting and performance chops were concerned. Liege Lord's music also appeared to be moving at an overall faster, speed metal clip.

In a Hip Hop match-up as heavy as Freddy vs Jason was to horror cinema, Los Angeles emcee's Mykill Miers and Pawz One have announced a collaborative album titled "Double Homicide". The project is packed with multi-syllabic lyrical barrages and DJ cuts as gritty as the boom-bap backdrops for a journey through the dark underbelly of the city of angels.

Mykill Miers, the self-proclaimed "Hitchcock Of Hip Hop" has been a threat on the mic since the late 90's, coming up in the same circle as notables including Planet Asia, Dilated Peoples and Phil The Agony. Pawz One has been releasing music for the past decade has been repping hard for the real ish. Speaking on their initial link-up Pawz recalls "I had obviously known of Myk for a while from killing it on the "Wake Up Show" to all the work he dropped. I was circulating around shows in LA a few years back and we ended up on the same bill a few times. We exchanged contact and did a few songs and I felt like it was a combo people would like to hear more from."

Production on the album includes work from Default Beats, Big Bob, Phaisrok, DJ Ray Swift, Science and Mykill Miers himself. Turntablists including DJ Rhettmatic, DJ Merk1200, DJ Breeze, DJ Romes and DJ Fastcut lend their skills and emcees including Ruste Juxx, Mic Handz, Edo.G, El Da Sensei, King Magnetic and Buddah.

After spending his debut album exploring techno and mechanical sounds in the depths of the Pas-de-Calais mines, Toh Imago looks up to the sky, with an open breeze on his face, as tree branches and canopy filter out the sun’s rays on Refuge. All the machines used during the album recording are tuned at 432hz, carrying the mystical benefits of Earth’s resonance. Spending just seconds with the opening track, the listener is drawn into the safety that Refuge was intended to provide, and each subsequent piece pulls you deeper and deeper into the album’s forest.

‘Refuge’ was recorded on the edge of the Mormal forest, in the North of France. With nature as a setting and studio accomplice, the album features synthesizers, field-recordings, as well as the acoustic qualities of reverbs from the nearby forest. As the artist’s inner world and nature converge in moments of self-reflection, so the album’s 11 recordings harmoniously unfold in a cavalcade of machines and organic sonorities.

While the first LP 'Nord Noir’ explored his family’s mining past, ‘Refuge' is about being present and the desire to re-contextualize the relationship between nature and humans. It is a record of uplifting tones that is filled with optimism, imbued with the lightness of those who finally reconnect with nature, their roots, and the feeling of groundedness.

Like the steps taken on a walk in the woods, the 11 tracks sonically tell the story of an inner journey divided in three chapters. "Asile sauvage", "Sylve barbare" and “Avril Mormal" take the listener into a fast-paced progression of rhythms. When the heart of the forest is reached, the journey becomes intimate, revealing a sacred space where breathing becomes the leading tempo ("Locus Neminis") and the traveller becomes a spirit lost in space ("Cosmos Intra”). The journey's climax is reached with "Monde intérieur". The album closes with "Chiff Chaff" which accompanies the listener back to a reality, hopefully a more reassuring one.

Across the album, Toh Imago finds inventive ways of opening a dialogue between nature and machine, both literally and metaphorically, creating a soundscape that both feels like and was created by the natural world that surrounds him.

The album offers a shelter from a predetermined world. It’s a story told through ambience, racy and subtle electronics, and the memories of lichens clinging to shoes.

The British heavy metal band Fastway formed in 1982 by former Motörhead guitarist “Fast” Eddie Clarke. He recruited Humble Pie drummer Jerry Shirley and vocalist Dave King, who later founded Flogging Molly. Their debut album was originally released in 1983 and features the two singles “We Become One” and “Easy Livin’”. Despite not being released as an official single, the track “Say What You Will” became one of their biggest hits to date.

Fastway is available as a 40th anniversary edition of 1000 individually numbered copies on red coloured vinyl and includes an insert.

CHRISTIAN DEATH was formed by Rozz Williams in Los Angeles, California in 1979. Williams was eventually joined by guitarist/songwriter Rikk Agnew of ADOLESCENTS, James McGearty on bass and George Belanger on drums. This CHRISTIAN DEATH line-up was responsible for recording the band's iconic 1982 debut, ONLY THEATRE OF PAIN, widely regarded as the #1 American goth album of all-time. This exclusive double-LP version of OTOP commemorates its 40th anniversary- the first disc is the digitally remastered, original version of the album while the second disc is comprised of "Dogs" from HELL COMES TO YOUR HOUSE, four pre-Frontier demos, two studio demos made for a second Frontier Records' LP that never happened and two alternate studio mixes from OTOP. The gatefold LP jacket is printed in its original its black and metallic gold, includes a Colver collage poster and a hardcover copy of the photo book, ONLY THEATRE OF PAIN and all come in a hard slipcase. For Conor Larkman and Sean Finnigan of LF SYSTEM, their success follows humble beginnings in the Scottish countryside, playing football against each other as teenagers on rival teams and raving at Scotland’s best clubs. They give credit for their dance hits to home village parties, soundtracked by Motown where Sean's Dad would share classic 70s records with them to dig into. Every track has its own spirit, in a kind of a 90s journey way. The compilation is a fascinating mixture of weird cosmic and slow goa vibes to more emotional places with powerful bassdriven downtempo techno and slightly trance influenced anthems as well as distinctive tribal acid easiness with epic melodies. Furthermore it involves faster loaded minimal hypnotic synth sounds and dark UK-House with a big-beat touch to it. Raw liquid floating old skool breaks melts into rave stompers which are inhabited by sensitive living microbes vibrating jungle atmospheres.

Samuel L Session and Van Czar drop a four-track techno EP on Unrilis that showcases a deeper and more hypnotic sound with dystopian atmosphere and driving percussion. Rino Cerrone launched the Unrilis record label over 15 years ago, and part of the label's back catalogue is its iconic Rilis series. 2022 sees the relaunch of the Rilis series that has a focus on underground DJ tools with raw analogue sounds. The Rilis series was originally launched in 1999, and was restricted to a concept on only 10 releases, each pressing a limited run of vinyl. It was hugely popular with each one often selling out in only a week and picking up DJ support by people ranging from Jeff Mills to Richie Hawtin. Those first 10 releases were focused on Rino Cerrone's own music, but since his retirement from the industry, the revitalised Rilis series will welcome other artists whose sound matches the label's underground concept.
This latest release in the Rilis series features collaborative tracks by Samuel L Session and Van Czar who have previously teamed up for releases on other imprints ranging from Marco Bailey's MB Elektronics to Ben Sims' Hardgrooves. Both are also successful solo artists, Sweden's Samuel L Session being well-known for his headline DJ sets at clubs around the world, along with the music he has released via iconic imprints such as Slam's Soma, Shlomi Aber's Be As One, Len Faki's Figure and Emmanuel's ARTS plus his own imprints SLS, Cycle, New Soil, and Klap Klap Belgium's Van Czar is also an accomplished DJ who is well-established across Europe and he has also released music on respected record labels ranging from Kevin Saunderson's KMS Records as well as the classic imprint, Yin Yang.
'Air Raid' opens the release with its eerie pads, spine-tingling melody loop and machine-driven percussion. It's got a raw aesthetic with dramatic claps and snare fills that add to the building suspense.
'18-022' is a dark and stripped back track with modulating synth textures layered with fast-flowing high-end percussion. Its pounding kick drum and clap rhythms add rigid structure to its expansive atmosphere and dance floor focused groove.
'Route 200' has thrashing cymbals punishing claps and rippling pads that create a stripped back groove submerged in deep atmosphere. Rich with analogue textures and gritty sound design, its relentless energy is tailor made for club sound systems.
'Objectivism' closes out the release with it's funky bassline and bleeping melody. Whirling textures and fluttering percussion maintain an unrelenting tension that's driven forward by the pounding kick drum.

Naglfar have an high quality of their recordings, this is the fifth album by those Swedes, and are here again be able to keep up to their high recording standards of the previous albums and if their music would still reek of hatred, evil and suffering. Naglfar is one of those bands that can effortlessly mix raw energy of black metal that we know from their first albums with the elements of melodic death metal introduced in their later releases. This mix makes their songs memorable to a point that you can recognize them from the first riffs. Traditionally of course, intensity mixes with atmospheric slower parts, melodic touches intertwine with ultra fast brutality, and in all that, solos, parts of keyboards or piano are thrown into as if into a twister of sickening sound. Musically, the whole band shows us solid compositional skills, supported by technical instrumentality and respectable experience. Christopher Olivius spits out wicked lyrics, he sang with such passion and malice, that vocals added an extra level of brutality, vocals are very strong and solid. Some cities just know how to produce bands by the bucketload. Take Detroit, for instance: we don’t need to rattle through a full list or anything, but safe to say that if your town has given the world the likes of Motown, Derrick May and J Dilla - before we even start to think about The Stooges et al - then you could be forgiven for thinking there must be something in the water round those parts. So whaddya say? Should we get to know two more fine exponents of melodic wonder from the Motor City? Only seems fair. This split LP between citymates The Stools and Toeheads certainly isn’t a letdown as far as the illustrious company of their forebears goes. In fact, it’s a fast-paced thrill ride that oscillates between hip-shaking rock’n’roll swing and bone-shaking hardcore energy. You might already be familiar with The Stools thanks to their ludicrously addictive Feelin’ Fine 7”, which dropped via Drunken Sailor (hey, those guys sound familiar…) early in 2021. If you though that short EP was a good time, wait ‘til you see what they’ve got in store here: right out of the gate, opener Dead Man’s Ford smashes the devil-toed boogie of the MC5 at their slinkiest into the teeth-clenched intensity of Negative Approach (and that’s a pretty decent John Brannon-style roar they deliver too). They maintain this quality and velocity across their side, which is brilliant. There’s no let-up from Toeheads either - their side of this split sounds like someone revved up The Gun Club and aimed fireworks inside their exhaust. This is the sound you always knew you were working towards when you got into this rock’n’roll business; guitars blazing, lungs bursting, a wall of sound collapsing while we all dance in the debris. Does it sound like anything new? Fuck no, but that’s not the point. Much like The Stools, there’s nothing you can say about Toeheads that can’t be summarised with the phrase ‘total exhilaration’. So there you have it. Another compelling case for Detroit as home to the finest sounds around, put forth by two young bands who make playing loud, fast and dumb sound easy. Call it conviction, call it chutzpah… hell, call it talent if you want, I ain’t gonna stop you. But chiefly, call it a fucking good time and put the damn record on. This slays. Will Fitzpatrick.

longtime friends Felicia Darhult Störby and Lovisa Nilsson. With a harmony
driven, heartfelt sound, complemented by deeply personal lyrics, they have been
described as "a music experience without facades, that feels both genuine and
vulnerable".The duo met in high school and bonded quickly. After high school,
they went their separate ways, traveling the world. After two years apart they
started writing music together as Lily Arbor.
The duo reuniting instantly proved to be fruitful, and the self produced debut EP
'Longing for the Sun' was released in 2019, followed by the single 'Where are you
going'. In early 2020 the second EP 'Better Minds' was released, also this self
produced.
This fast paced surge of creativity combined with a natural proneness for
songwriting led to praise and participation in Swedish media. It also let the duo
tour both Sweden and the world, opening for acts such as Israel Nash, Cordovas,
Sarah Shook & the Disarmers and Joshua Radin.
They had big plans for the year of 2020 and were going to play in Europe, but
everything was cancelled. They decided to record their self- titled debut album
instead.
The duo got their revenge and were touring in Europe in 2022 and in January
2023 we finally see the release of their debut album.

Sounding fast and crazy is Ammo’s forte, but their secret weapon is their ability to play at mid tempo, like on the crushing NYHC-style mosh part in “Known Unknown” and the singalong during the breakdown to the epic “All You Do (Is Want Me to Die).” I love music that expands hardcore’s boundaries, but Ammo isn’t that… they distill hardcore its essence, their sound ground down to the sharpness of a knife’s edge. Candlemass was formed by bassist & songwriter Leif Edling in Stockholm,
Sweden in 1984 & they are well known for their epic doom metal, having a great
influence over a generation of the genre's subsequent greats - Candlemass
themselves taking a large influence from Black Sabbath. Bands such as Paradise
Lost & My Dying Bride to this day rate 'Epicus...' among their most inspirational
albums. 'Epicus Doomicus Metallicus' is a true classic. Heavy metal riffs blended
with almost neo-classical touches, plus some theatrical elements recalling bands
like Mercyful Fate (thought to be another influence). All-in-all, this is considered
one of the definitive Doom Metal releases. 'Epicus € ' was recorded at
Thunderload Studios in 1986 & was released later that same year. The vocals
were handled by Johan L ngqvist, before the iconic vocalist Messiah Marcolin
became a solid fixture in the band until the early nineties. Candlemass instantly
became a great inspiration to countless metal bands upon the album's release in
1986; a time when thrash metal, not doom, was fast becoming the dominant style
in both Europe & the US. This edition of 'Epicus Doomicus Metallicus' features
recently remastered audio courtesy of Patrick Engel at Temple of Disharmony &
is presented with its original sleeve design.
