Die hochgeschätzten Euro-Metal-Pioniere OZ wurden 1977 in der kleinen finnischen Stadt Nakilla ursprünglich als Cover-Band gegründet. Die Band bestand aus Mark Ruffneck (bürgerlicher Name Pekka Mark) am Schlagzeug, Sänger Ape DeMartine (Tapani Hämäläinen), Bassist Tauno Vajavaara sowie Kario Elo an der Gitarre.

Nachdem man in jedem Winkel des Heimatlandes Finnland live gespielt hatte, zogen OZ 1983 nach Stockholm um und unterschrieben einen Vertrag bei Börje Forsbergs Label Tyfon Grammofon AB Börje Forsberg, auch als The Boss bekannt, war der Sohn von Bathorys Quorthon.

In der Folge avancierten OZ zu einer der wichtigsten Heavy-Metal-Bands Skandinaviens und nahmen insgesamt fünf Studioalben auf, eher im Winter 1991/92 das Ende kam.

Nach »OZ« (1982), »Fire In The Brain« (1983) sowie »III Warning« (1984) war »Decibel Storm« 1985 das vierte Album der finnischen Schweden.

Gemeinsam haben die Vier in nur dreieinhalb Tagen voll gemeinschaftlicher Schaffenskraft in den legendären Hansa Studios in Berlin (U2, David Bowie, Depeche Mode u.a.) ein Album geschaffen, das gleichermaßen zeitgemäß wie richtungsweisend ist – und in seinen starken Melodien und dem sagenhaften Interplay voll Zuversicht.

Under the title "Akelarre Antifascista" (which literal translation would be "Anti-Fascist Witches' Coven", but loosely translated as Anti-Fascist Celebration), in a reference to the legendary Akelarre, a wild gathering of Basque witches, this album distils all the intensity, sweat and collective excitement of a night when thousands of voices joined together to celebrate not just a career, but a way of seeing art as resistance. On 15th February 2025, Madrid saw more than just a concert: it was a collective ritual, an anti-fascist demonstration in which thousands of voices came together as one to emphasize the tenacity of a voice that never surrendered. Four decades after lighting the fuse of combative rock in Euskal Herria, the Basque Country, Fermin Muguruza chose the capital of Spain, a city that closed its doors to him so many times and that he has described as "the heart of the beast", to make the definitive record of his 40th anniversary tour. The result is "Akelarre Antifascista", a live album that distils the history of a musical and political resistance that has spanned generations, languages and frontiers. The concert, sold out with 15,000 people, was an explosion of energy, memory and future. Hello Spiral returns to the same North London block, the same triangulated geometry of balconies and courtyard, but with a shift of orientation. His previous record looked outward from the eighth floor, these four new recordings move inside, into the building’s arteries. Joe explores the hallways of the complex where he has lived and listened for years, using the same tool as before, an iPhone and its voice memo app. The recordings were made in situ, each exactly eleven minutes, captured without ceremony.

The hallways feel different. Less private, less scenic, more neutral. They are the connective tissue between hundreds of domestic units, a space of transit rather than rest. The carpet absorbs certain frequencies. The fire doors catch and release pockets of air. The lights hum. Elevators drone in soft cycles of arrival and departure. These are the institutional sounds of shared living, yet once recorded they begin to behave strangely. A kind of internal weather appears.

As with the previous album, Joe remains attentive to what is often overlooked, irrelevant or discarded. The hallways, with their scuffs and signage, their coded access and polite functionalism, provide an unexpectedly rich field. The ambience is not shaped by storms or scaffolding, not by birds or street spill. Instead the material is the building’s own breath, its mechanical rhythms, the low frequency traces of neighbours, the occasional shuffle of footsteps that pass but do not return.

Joe talks about this record as a possible middle chapter in a trilogy. If so, it sits between the exposed openness of the balcony and whatever comes next. A hinge point. These recordings continue Joe’s long practice of defamiliarization, sharpening attention to the unnoticed while withholding narrative. They invite repeated listening, not for revelation, but for the subtle shifts that occur when a familiar space is treated as an instrument.

Nachdem AWINHSMK Ende 2022 bei Audiolith erschien, ging es für die Band wild hin- und her zwischen Pop-Festivals, Punkbühnen, Preisverleihungen und Solishows für selbstverwaltete Kulturzentren oder gegen die extreme Rechte. Nun der Nachfolger Great Resignation bei Kidnap. Das Schulterklopfen der Kulturförderung darf natürlich auch nicht fehlen. Zwölf Tracks auf 1:22 bis 2:30. Ästhetisch nochmal diversifiziert und dennoch aus einem Guss, entstanden unter Regie von Gregor Hennig im Studio Nord Bremen, gemischt von Daniel Roesberg und gemastert von Christian Bethge. Musikalisch klarer und pointierter als zuvor. Obviously (Post-)Punk, poppige Niedlichkeit, Garage Vibes, bisschen Hamburger Schule, bisschen Kraut, etwas düsterere Gitarren und natürlich Brotschneidemaschine durch FX geballert. Große Resignation! Die große Traurigkeit zieht sich durch die Platte hindurch, auch in den auf den ersten Blick lustigen Liedern. Denn hier sind sich pogendroblem treu geblieben, es geht um absurde Alltagsgeschichten, um Subjektivierung, die nicht mehr zu funktionieren scheint. Um Fragmentierung von Gesellschaft, Arbeitsbeziehungen, der Linken. Wie durch die Zeit der Monster (Antonio Gramsci) navigieren, fragen pogendroblem. Wie weiter machen gegen Faschisierung und Klimakrise? Klar ist: Es kann nicht immer so weitergehen.

Born in the small city of Aveiro, Portugal, DJ Yoke (Gabriel Casal) is a hip hop DJ and producer with over two decades of experience shaping the underground scene. In 2011, he was awarded Hip Hop Band of the Year in Portugal and crowned champion of the DMC Battle Supremacy, alongside multiple finalist appearances in the same competition.

Known for blending raw hip hop beats with broken beat and groove-driven textures, DJ Yoke has built a solid independent catalogue, including three solo albums and three beat tapes released independently.

It all happened very fast. There was a window of opportunity- youth was free, the studio was free, and the band were free- and I thought, let providence prevail. No one had heard the songs apart from myself and Alan McGee, but we both thought that we had something. You could feel it, even though none of the songs were really finished, and so we decided to roll with it and go and record them. I think with Yeah Yeah Yeah it was more than just trying to capture a vibe- it was about trying to record something majestic, which is how youth describes the record. There are gospels and strings on tracks like Free Love and don’t look away, which have kind of turned into these massive anthems. It has P.P. Arnold as a featured vocalist on a couple of tracks- the first, the single poison vine, which has a groove and a blistering chorus. She’s also on another song that’s a psychedelic funk track: the way it’s gotta be (oh yeah). Songs like Teardrops or Birds Heading South- we’ve tried to capture that classic, slightly

After a few previous edits here and there, the two outsiders are back to add another stop to their endless journey through worldwide funky sounds. Deep disco, Boogie with a capital B (as in Bass or Beat — take your pick), breezy modern soul with an AOR touch, or hypnotic Afrobeat — the purpose of this four-tracker is simple: to bring some heat to any dance floor. Groove is in the heart (of Africa), as somebody once said.

"Graze the Bell" ist eine Sammlung von bewegenden, faszinierenden Solo-Klavierstücken und das bisher reinste Werk von David Moore. Bekannt für seine atmosphärischen Kompositionen mit Bing & Ruth sowie seine Zusammenarbeit mit dem Gitarristen Steve Gunn und Cowboy Sadness, ist dies Moores erstes weit verbreitetes Solo-Klavieralbum. Wie das Albumcover - ein Foto, das Moore von Hand bestickt hat - abstrahiert die Musik persönliche Erfahrungen zu transzendenten Eindrücken. Moore nutzt sein Klavier, um meditativ die Conditio Humana zu erforschen, und macht "Graze the Bell" zu einem Zufluchtsort des Klangs. Im Laufe ihrer zahlreichen Veröffentlichungen haben Bing & Ruth häufig ihre Form und ihren Sound verändert, sich zu einer fünfzehnköpfigen Gruppe entwickelt und sind schließlich zu einer Trio-Konfiguration gelangt. Ihr jüngstes Album ,Species" stellte Moores Farfisa-Spiel in den Vordergrund, während eine nachfolgende EP mit dem gleichen Namen seine Solointerpretationen des Albums enthielt. Dieser lange Prozess der Destillation konzentrierte sich stets auf Moores Kompositionen für das Klavier und sein Verständnis davon. Nach zwei Jahrzehnten gefeierter Ensemblearbeit ist das Erscheinen von ,Graze the Bell" ein Moment, in dem sich der Kreis schließt, eine Heimkehr - nicht einfach zu einem Ort oder einer Zeit, sondern zu einem leuchtenden Zentrum, das beides übersteigt. Einige der Stücke auf ,Graze the Bell" waren ursprünglich für ein Album von Bing & Ruth geplant, wurden aber schließlich als Soloprojekt neu konzipiert. Moore nutzte nur das Klavier und versuchte, die bewährten Methoden, die er im Laufe der Jahre entwickelt hatte, weiter auszubauen. ,Ich möchte mich weiterentwickeln", sagt er, ,und dogmatische Denkweisen hinterfragen." Er öffnete sich aktiv für Experimente und suchte nach einer tieferen Präsenz in seinem Spiel, wobei er seine Beziehung zum Klavier und zum Leben neu bewertete. Moores Musik basiert zwar auf komponierten Noten und schöpft aus Lebenserfahrungen, doch die Quelle seiner Inspiration bleibt eher unbeschreiblich. Indem er Letzteres bewusst pflegte, entwickelte er eine natürliche Fähigkeit, sich in einen tranceähnlichen Zustand zu versetzen. Moore kann sich mit dieser Absicht hinsetzen und ist ,innerhalb weniger Sekunden" ,vollkommen dort". Von der ersten bis zur letzten Note basiert das Album auf dem atemberaubenden Klang eines ,bestialischen" Steinway Model D aus Hamburg von 1987. Dies hängt zum Teil mit seinem subtilen Spielstil zusammen, der manchmal an Stille grenzt. Moores anmutige Herangehensweise gibt dem Klang Raum und offenbart Nuancen des Klaviers, die viele Spieler gewöhnlich ignorieren würden. Solche Nuancen wurden während der Aufnahmen des Albums im renommierten Oktaven Audio in Mt. Vernon, New York, gepflegt. Der Klang des Steinway-Flügels des Studios wurde unter der Produktionsleitung des Grammy-Gewinners Ben Kane mit Unterstützung von Owen Mulholland lebhaft eingefangen. Um Moores experimentellen Ansatz zu unterstreichen, setzten sie Pitch-Correcting-Software kreativ ein, um die verschiedenen Register des Klangprofils des Klaviers zu orchestrieren. Der Ausdruck ,graze the bell" (die Glocke streifen) kam Moore vor Jahren aus heiterem Himmel in den Sinn. Er fand ihn poetisch und blieb ihm im Gedächtnis haften. Moore, der lange Zeit daran geglaubt hatte, dass das Leben eine Reise ist, an deren Ende man etwas erreicht oder ankommt, und dies zunehmend in Frage gestellt hatte, fand zunehmend mehr Sicherheit darin, einfach da zu sein, wo er ist. ,Es gibt keinen Gipfel - und keinen Weg dorthin", schreibt er. ,Nur die Hoffnung, dass wir, wenn wir Glück haben, gelegentlich die Glocke streifen." Und diese Erkenntnis hat er in sein Klavierspiel einfließen lassen. Mit diesem Album hat er sich bewusst dafür entschieden, Eigenheiten, sowohl seine eigenen als auch die des Instruments, voll und ganz anzunehmen. Anmut, subtile Klänge, rohe Gesten und glückliche Zufälle werden hier geschätzt. Die Stickerei auf dem Cover zeigt seine Frau beim Drachensteigen an der Küste von North Carolina. Sie wurde während der Abmischung des Albums über zehn Monate hinweg methodisch mit Kreuzstich gestickt, und viele persönliche Lebensereignisse - traurige und hoffnungsvolle - sind in seine Handwerkskunst eingewoben. Da Moore selbst mit einer bipolaren Störung zu kämpfen hat, dienten sowohl das Album als auch die Stickerei als kathartische Mittel der Meditation für ihn. Moores Klavierspiel enthält eine versteckte Karte persönlicher Erfahrungen, die bezaubernde Wiederholung seiner Melodien navigiert seinen Weg und unseren durch die Skalen des Raums. Moores Musik weckt verborgene Gefühle, erweckt uns und erinnert uns an unser gemeinsames Zentrum.
