Joseph Trapanese's score (Tron: Legacy, Straight Outta Compton) is a moody, mysterious piece of work, full of space, quiet, contemplative moments but with an unnerving sense of dread below the surface that gives just the right amount of unease whilst listening.

Outside Ludlow / Desert Disco is the first major solo release from Australian performer-composer Sam Dunscombe, now based in Berlin after residing for the past decade in San Diego and Tokyo. A virtuoso clarinettist who has performed in composed and improvised settings with artists such as Klaus Lang and Taku Sugimoto, their practice also embraces computer music, lo-fi electronics and field recordings, in addition to their long-term commitment to archiving, studying and performing the work of Romanian spectralist composer Horatiu Radulescu.
The two side-long pieces presented on this LP began from a chance encounter in a specific geographic location (documented in the photographs that grace the record’s sleeve). Exploring California’s Mojave desert with a friend, Dunscombe made the unlikely discovery of a tangle of quarter-inch tape snared on a cactus. The digitised version of this tape, variously edited and processed, as well as Dunscombe’s own transcription and embellished performance of some of its material on Hammond organ, makes up one of the main ingredients of the LP’s first side. The other is a field recording of the area outside the ghost town of Ludlow, where the tape was found, where haunted silence is punctuated by freight trains and clusters of explosions from gold mines and the local marine corps. Far from any kind of documentary approach, the resulting composition reaches back to the smeared atmospherics and overdriven tape crunch of Hands To, Small Cruel Party or Joe Colley, before the Hammond organ rises up to cast a spectral shimmer reminiscent of 1960s tape music classics like Arne Nordheim’s ‘Warszawa’.

On ‘Desert Disco’ (its title perhaps a clue to the content of the mysterious tape), Dunscombe zeroes in on a single fragment of the tape, accompanying it with analogue synthesis to craft an immersive work based on a single chord. Throughout the course of this work, the monolithic opening sonority gradually splits apart, revealing an infinity of rhythmically phasing lines that swarm like a cloud of insects and patter like falling rain, placing Dunscombe’s piece in a lineage of patient electronic exploration that includes landmarks like Costin Miereanu’s Derives and the contemporary work of Jim O’Rourke.

James are proud to announce the release of their new album All The Colours Of You. Their 16th studio album will be released on 4th June with the title track available today (1st March) across all DSPs. All The Colours Of You follows the release of LIVE In Extraordinary Times, a live recorded version of their last studio album Living In Extraordinary Times, which peaked at #1 in the midweeks.

The album will be their first on a new record label, Virgin Music Label & Artists Services (formerly known as Caroline International), and at their new publishing home Kobalt Music, both of which they recently signed to, reinforcing the endless and restless ambition they have as they approach their fourth decade as a band.

Recorded in part before the Covid pandemic struck, the album was produced by the Grammy award-winning Jacknife Lee (Taylor Swift, U2, REM’s, Snow Patrol, The Killers). On production duties with James for the first time, he bought a fresh approach to their sound, working remotely from his studio, reimagining their early demos, and capturing the band in all their virtual glory.

The result is a record with the most arena ready tracks of their 38-year career, the sound of one of Britain’s best bands, deconstructed and reassembled by one of the world’s most renowned producers.

Unknown recording outside Ethiopia which documents Mergia Hailu & The Walias legendary early period. Beautifully-rendered instrumentals of classic Ethiopian standards, "Tezeta"is the follow-up reissue of the hugely popular seminal Ethiopian instrumentals LP "Tche Belew" (ATFA012). It was a Cassette-only release in 1975 on the band's in-house label, to fund their record store. From their genesis as members of the Venus club in-house band in the early 70s, Hailu Mergia and the Walias Band were at the forefront of the musical revolution during an era where modern instruments and foreign styles superseded the traditional fare to become the staple sound of Ethiopia. No one would argue that the Walias were the trailblazing powerhouse of modern Ethiopian music. They were the first band to form independently without affiliation to a theatre house, a club or a hotel; unprecedented and risky as they had to raise all funding for expenses by themselves including buying equipment. They were the first to release full instrumental albums, considered to be commercially unviable at the time. They opened their own recording studio, with band members Melake Gebre and Mahmoud Aman doubling as technical buffs during sessions. They were also the first independent band to tour abroad. In short, they were the pioneers every band tried to emulate; some more successfully than others. Odds are, any Ethiopian over the age of 35 who had access to TV or radio by the early 90s, will instantly recognize the sound of Walias. What is not a given is, how many would actually identify the band itself. Barely a day went by without hearing the Walias either in the background on radio or as an accompaniment to various programs on TV. This Tezeta album, the band's second recording, released in 1975, is one of those that have been impossible to find for nearly three decades. Sourced by Awesome Tapes From Africa and expertly remastered by Jessica Thompson, its unique and funky renditions of standards and popular songs of the day are so quintessentially Walias, flavorful and evocative. Hailu's melodic organ, unashamedly front and center in every track, makes even the complex pieces accessible. Profoundly engaging; it's an immersive trip down memory lane for those of us getting reacquainted with it, while also an enthralling and gratifying experience for fresh ears.

The wisdom of Tony Allen's words was as deep as his grooves, and these two sentences, which announce the dozen songs that follow, truly capture the spirit of There is No End. Tony’s motivating concept and desire was to work with younger artists, and especially the new generation of rappers, and give them voice in a time of global turmoil when music has never been more important – not necessarily as a "weapon" for the future in the manner of Fela's violently political songs, but also as medicine to heal a fractured world today.



For all those who knew him, he was a deeply spiritual man whose life's mission was not just to create a new musical language, but to pass it on to subsequent generations. In thinking back on the incredible process of creating this album without Tony physically present to guide him, producer Vincent Taeger remarked that his friend and mentor "was a teacher without speaking... a drummer and a guardian, with a great artistic vision and that vision filled the songs even after he had left us." Ben Okri, like everyone else involved in this valedictory album, had a very similar experience, declaring in awe that "this man could have lived another 150 years and kept creating new worlds. He had become the master shaman of his art. He knew himself and his mind. He wanted the album to be open to the energies of a new generation... but like a great mathematician or scientist who found a code of for a new world, with just a few beats, he created this extraordinary canvas." Das neue Album in fünf Teilen, Can Live in Stuttgart 1975 dokumentiert einen wichtigen und beeindruckenden Teil der Can-Geschichte. Da in den 70gern technische Pannen immer wieder die geplannten Live-Aufnahmen sabotierten, fehlten diese im Spoon Katalog. Nun wurden die besten Bootleg-Aufnahmen genommen und unter der Leitung von Gründungsmitglied Irmin Schmidt und CAN Produzent/Toningenieur René Tinner durch die Mühlen der Technologie des 21. Jahrhunderts geschickt, um diese wichtigen historischen Dokumente in der bestmöglichen Qualität zu präsentieren. ‘SoundKilla Mindset’ is a Reggae & Dancehall opus which takes Mr. Williamz back to his roots as a sound system native and draws on inspiration from the OG Nicodemus. A respected statesman of the Portobello dancehall-soaked streets, Mr. Williamz uses modernity combined with elements of styles from the Reggae greats to create a record only someone as proficient and knowledgeable in the scene as he could.

Born in London, UK - when Mr Williamz was 6 years old, his father moved home to Jamaica bringing both him and his younger with him. By the age of 10 he was already a local favourite winning local clashes and competition and at 15 he returned to London. Fast-forward to today and he is a soundsystem icon who is recognised for his authenticity, Mr Williamz 20 year career has seen notable collaborations with: Major Lazer, Shy FX, Mungo's Hi-fi, Green Lion Crew and Big Zeeks. He has recorded and performed with the likes of: Chronixx, Damian Marley, Gappy Ranks, Hollow Point, Jah Mason, Junior Demus, Mikey General, Pinchers, Spragga Benz, Stephen Marley, Supercat and Topcat.

He also recently made his acting debut in the feature length film “Yardie”, directed by Idris Elba. With recent radio support from David Rodigan, Ras Kwame, Rodigan, Toddla T, Robbo Ranx, Daddy Ernie & Allan, press support from Clash Magazine and Reggaeville, Mr Williamz is undoubtedly continuing building his lasting impact on the genre and wider UK music scene.

They have earned accolades from Pitchfork who praised the band’s “lilting, throwback jangle pop,” and acclaim from outlets like NPR, Paste, NME, Apple Music 1, and more.

The opening track, “Get Bleak” sets a thematic tone for the EP, one of cultural self-awareness and satiric critiques of society’s pressures and the often ridiculous demands – and prices we pay – to exist. The Boy With No Name - angelehnt an den kurzzeitigen Spitznamen des Sohnes von Travis’ Frontmann
Fran Healy - wird zum ersten Mal in seiner ursprünglichen Form auf Vinyl wiederveröffentlicht.
2007, zehn Jahre nach der Veröffentlichung ihres Debütalbums hatten sich Travis auf ihrem 5. Studioalbum
der Welt der Beziehungen zugewandt, wobei sich insbesondere ”My Eyes” auf Fran Healy’s neugeborenen
Sohn bezog. Das von Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, Beck, Paul McCartney) und Brian Eno produzierte Album
bezeichnete Fran später als ”our most eclectic album”. Es enthielt den UK Top 10 Hit ”Closer” und schaffte
es in die Top 5 der UK-Charts. Von der BBC wurde es als das Werk einer Band gelobt, die es sich leisten
kann, Risiken einzugehen”.
Das Album erscheint als 2LP mit Gatefold-Hülle, bedruckter Innenhülle und Bonus 7”.

Der amerikanische Pianist Vijay Iyer präsentiert auf UnEasy ein kraftvolles neues Trio, in dem er von zwei
Schlüsselfiguren der kreativen Musik, Tyshawn Sorey und Linda May Han Oh, begleitet wird. ”Wir haben
eine gemeinsame Energie, die sehr ausgeprägt ist. Sie hat eine andere Art von Antrieb, einen anderen

Freshly started label blickwinkel (Dauw sister label) announces the release "Balts" by Schreel Van De Velde. It’s the first outing of the duo Lucas Schreel and Casper Van De Velde under this new moniker and can be seen as the follow-up album of Schreel's acclaimed debut album which was released last year.

As the album titles suggest, love in all its glory formed a major inspiration in the making of this album. The duo, however, didn’t restrain themselves to a sole conceptualization of this theme but instead explored it more widely and free. The result is a consistent collection of compositions reflecting on human encounters, relationships, sexuality and more. It’s love and broken love. It’s attraction and repulsion.

With Balts, the duo created a set of animal miniatures evoking feelings of melancholy while also joy and happiness have their place. Given the instrumental nature of the songs, the music remains kind of mythical and never really shows its true meaning. As such, these little miniatures form the duo’s own unique wildlife and is open for the listeners interpretation and own narrative. Dolfijn is the first single from the album and will be released on all digital platforms alongside a video by Jelle Martens.

Lucas Schreel is a classically trained guitarist based in Brussels. His first solo album We're Never Afraid of Getting Up Every Morning was released through Sentimental Records in 2020 and was well-received both in written-press (Humo, Enola & Indiestyle) and radio (Duyster, Radio 1 & Klara). Besides his solo work, Schreel is also a member of the lo-fi indierockband Kloothommel.
Acclaimed Brussels percussionist Casper Van De Velde made quite a name for himself through his bands like SCHNTZL, Bombataz, Donder among others. His work received prices at International Jazz Contest d’Avignon and Storm! Contest (Jazzlab). Casper is currently also a member of the recently formed An Pierlé Quartet.

Blickwinkel is a freshly born label based in Ghent and Brussels. It’s founded by Pieter Dudal (Dauw) and visual artist Jelle Martens (Nicolas Jaar, Vinyl on Demand, W.E.R.F.). After working in the music scene separately for almost a decade, they found common ground in both their admiration for sound, image and especially its dialogue. Unfettered by place or genre.

Als Matthew E. White an dem Nachfolger seines zweiten Studioalbums arbeitete, wollte er seine Herangehensweise an das Songwriting neu erfinden, zumindest für eine Session. White versammelte eine vertrauenswürdige Truppe von sieben Musikern in Richmond, Virginia. Er dirigierte das Septett durch eine Reihe von lockeren, größtenteils gestischen Kompositionen. Die Klänge waren gewaltig, eine Reihe von Keyboards und Gitarren untermalten den Schwung einer ineinandergreifenden vierköpfigen Rhythmusgruppe. Holley nahm seine Vocals über Whites Aufnahmen in nur vier Stunden auf. Als Visionär und intuitiver Texter hörte sich Holley 20 Sekunden an und proklamierte die Bilder, die die Klänge hervorriefen. Wenn ihm etwas gefiel, zog er ein Notizbuch zu Rate, das voller lyrischer Einfälle war, und sang dann komplette erste Takes zu Musik, die er noch nie gehört hatte. Holley und White mögen als unwahrscheinliche Kollaborateure erscheinen, da sie durch Jahrzehnte und Disziplinen getrennt sind, aber die beiden teilen tiefe Alabama-Wurzeln. Und was noch wichtiger ist: Holley und White betrachten Musik als ein unheimliches Gefäß für sonst undurchdringliche Vorstellungen von Trauer, Leid und Solidarität. Dry Cleanings fiebriger Post-Punk klingt wie kein anderer Sound zurzeit. Bassist Lewis Maynard, Drummer Nick Buxton und Gitarrist Tom Dowse kennen sich schon eine kleine Ewigkeit und hatten schon diverse gemeinsame Bandprojekte zusammen. Die neue Band der Londoner entstand 2017 nach einem Karoke-Abend, bei dem sie Florence Shaw kennenlernten. Shaw, die vorher nie gesungen hatte, wurde zur Stimme der Band. Binnen weniger Monate entstanden die ersten Songs; die Texte handeln von Neurosen, seltsamen YouTube-Kommentaren und den normalen Dingen des Lebens. Shaw ist eine gute Beobachterin und eine Archäologin des Alltags. Der ungeschminkte Sound von Dry Cleaning bietet Shaws Geschichten dabei eine berauschende Klangkulisse. 2020 waren nach zwei EP-Veröffentlichungen und Touren durch englische Clubs Konzerte in den USA und Europa geplant, aber wegen der Pandemie saß die Band stattdessen im britischen Lockdown. Die Zeit nutzte man, um weitere Songs zu schreiben und das Debütalbum mit John Parish als Produzent in dessen Rockfield Studios aufzunehmen. "New Long Leg" wird die Musikwelt im Sturm erobern.

Songs zu schreiben ist für Toby Whyle eine Selbstverständlichkeit, im Musikkosmos ist er seit langer Zeit ein bekanntes Gesicht. Neu ist die Erkenntnis, dass Songwriting für ihn einer der wenigen Wege ist, die grelle, schnelllebige Außenwelt auszublenden. "A Mood Of Its Own" ist der Anfang eines neuen Abenteuers, auf das sich Toby erstmals alleine begibt. Vorbehaltlos setzt er sich den Anziehungskräften von elektronischer Musik und Gitarrenpop aus, umkreist beide immer wieder knapp, lässt sich aber nie ganz fangen. Jeder Song folgt dabei einer eigenen Umlaufbahn, gewährt neue Einblicke in Tobys Gedankenwelten.

Der Titel "A Mood Of Its Own" entstammt einer Textzeile der ersten Single "No One Moves", mit der Toby gleich mal auf dem ersten Platz der Radio FM4 Charts landete. Der Song beschreibt eine Schreibblockade, die zweite Single "Quiet The Silence" begleitet das Auseinanderdriften zweier Menschen, "Pity" erzählt von Stolpersteinen und einem Neubeginn und "How It Feels" von der Suche nach Konstanten in einer schnelllebigen Welt. Auf seiner ersten Solo-EP zeigt Toby Whyle die volle Bandbreite seines Songwritings, lässt einen oft energiegeladen aber nachdenklich zurück. Gemeinsam mit Produzent Maximilian Walch hat Toby unterschiedliche Stimmungen eingefangen, auf das Wesentliche reduziert und eine verbindende Ästhetik geschaffen.

It took German metalcore vets, CALIBAN recording a cover of Rammstein’s “Sonne” to realize that their native tongue was a seamless fit with their time tempered collision of punishing riffs and Andreas Dörner’s urgent vocals. With fans hungry for the Essen-borne quintet to record an album exclusively in German, the band simply said: “Why not?” and “Zeitgeister” was born. 11 genre-defining LPs deep into their career, the band’s vision for the album came naturally – a career retrospective and deep-dive into CALIBAN favorites that haven’t had a live airing in some time. “It wasn’t an easy decision, but once we allowed us to make them as different from the originals as we felt it was needed it came fairly naturally”, explains guitarist and main songwriter Marc Görtz. Of course, some updating was necessary when it came to translating the songs to German. “It turned out to be surprisingly tricky,” says Dörner. “While I feel more at home with my native German it made it a lot more complicated, as I had more options to phrase something.” Formed in 1997, CALIBAN’s legacy has been a tireless one, touring the globe and sharing stages with the likes of Slayer, Kreator, Killswitch Engage and many more, “Zeitgeister” was a welcome homecoming. With the help of long-running producer Benjamin Richter (Moonspell, Emil Bulls and more) CALIBAN hand-picked seven tracks to bring new life to: “Trauma“ (feat.
