Oslo-based label Boring Crew Records (BCR) makes its vinyl debut with the Prærien EP. The EP showcases the label’s diverse range and vision, with six tracks that span various moods and genres, setting the stage for what’s to come.

BCR01 kicks off with Oasen by Anders Hajem, a dark and chugging track. The title track, Prærien, seamlessly picks up where Oasen left off, delving deeper into the atmosphere with a hypnotic bassline and subtle tension. Perkules rounds off the A-side with his Oasen remix, stripping it down into a raw, minimal version with a heavy(!) bottom-end.

On the B-side, Henrik Villard’s Cowgirl hits hard with raw and gritty drums, with a touch of dubbed-out vocals. Woodfall Temple follows, enveloping listeners in its tribal and slight meditative energy. Canadian producer Cooper Saver then closes the EP with his mesmerizing remix of Woodfall Temple, ramping up the tempo with layered synth lines that create an irresistible, trance-like atmosphere.

Die neue Platte ist eine Parforceritt durch die geschätzten Traditionen des Genres - man denke an Razor, Dark Angel, Merciless, Living Death und natürlich Slayer als Referenzen - und verleiht ihnen einen frischen Dreh, sei es in Form von ‚Nimbus', einer Hommage an Phantoms Einflüssen von Kultbands wie Manilla Road, Gotham City und Heavy Load, oder in Bezug auf die abenteuerliche Struktur von ‚Nazguhl', einem von vielen Ausflügen ins Unkonventionelle, die den extremen Metal der Mexiakner überraschenderweise nicht kompromittieren. "Tyrants of Wrath" wurde von der Band und Héctor Northen in den Nehtron Studios in Mexiko aufgenommen und abgemischt. Das Mastering übernahm Patrick Engel im Temple of Disharmony in Deutschland. Ende der 1980er standen Mekong Delta ohne Gitarrist Frank Fricke (der ein Angebot von U.D.O. annahm) und Sänger Wolfgang Borgmann (der nichts mehr mit dem neuen Material anfangen konnte) da. Beide hatten die Identität der Band auf ihren ersten drei Alben mitgeprägt, doch mit dem amerikanischen Sänger Doug Lee und Uwe Baltrusch als verbliebenem Gitarristen gelang es den Gründungsmitgliedern Ralf Hubert und Jörg Michael, ein Album zu schaffen, das viele Fans für ihr Magnum Opus halten. Allein aufgrund seines achtteiligen, 20-minütigen Titeltracks kann man "Dances Of Death (And Other Walking Shadows)" - ursprünglich 1990 veröffentlicht - sogar zu den besten Progressive-Metal-Alben aller Zeiten zählen.

Sub Basics is back on his own fledgling label Temple of Sound - but under a new alias. As Tommy Basics he leads into a fresh house sound but still serves it up with plenty of his textbook bass-heavy low ends. 'Latitude' is a bubbly groover with dusty drums and fleshy basslines that get you moving and warmed up. 'Longitude' is even deeper, with smeared dub chords and woody percussive hits peppering the laid-back and inviting groove. Two stylish sounds from this versatile producer.
