TaxiCab Verses, Is What You Make It, is a project that was created by Athens musician, Jim Wilson. It’s an international collaborative project between TaxiCab Verses (a name inspired by the phrases
covering the backs of taxis Jim observed during his travels in Ghana) and Ghana’s Kofi Atentenben and the Warriors. The 10-track album is named Is What You Make It, and according to Flagpole Magazine it's "aggressive and propulsive, even on tracks lesser musicians would let devolve into simple swing patterns (like the darkly jazz-tinged “Step By Step”)...my only regret is that I didn’t write about it the moment it came out. It’s righteously excellent." Overall, 22 musicians contributed to this between Athens and West Africa. TaxiCab Verses was originally released on CD only in 2012 and became a sort of hidden gem of Athens. The album was mastered by Greg Calbi (Bob Dylan, Drive-By Truckers, Paul Simon, The National) and was produced by Drew Vandenberg (Faye Webster, S.G. Goodman).

Patterson Hood of the Drive-By Truckers also had a big role in the creation of this album. He says that he is "so filled with love and pride for what Jim, Drew and all of those amazing musicians from two continents have created. Kudos to George Fontaine and the Strolling Bones Records folks for spotlighting this amazing chapter of Athens music history (and beyond) and finally making this record available for the whole world to hear."

Burch immersed herself in the label"s creative community and listened to what it gave her, making field recordings and allowing There Is Only Love and Fear to emerge from the collaborations and environments she encountered. Sessions for the album spanned multiple non-traditional recording spaces including a storefront in Bridgeport, Chicago and a canyon in Griffith Park, Los Angeles, with an eminent cast of creative musicians including Ben LaMar Gay, Macie Stewart, Anna Butterss, Mikel Patrick Avery, and Dan Bitney of Tortoise, all of whom Burch met for the first time in the moments before they played. These moments of instant collaboration were then edited, decomposed, and recontextualized by Burch, resulting in a deeply organic, energetic-yet-patient addition to the canon of modern composition.

Hansard first gained an audience for the limber but emphatic indie rock he created as a member of The Frames, then gained international fame with fellow singer and songwriter Markéta Irglová in the duo The Swell Season, whose emotionally open, primarily acoustic indie folk became the centerpiece of the award-winning independent romantic drama Once. After going out on his own with his 2012 solo debut, Rhythm and Repose, Hansard has shown a stylistic diversity as he embraced the sound of "70s singer/songwriters on 2015"s Didn"t He Ramble, vintage soul on 2018"s Between Two Shores, and an eclectic swing between subtle folk and noisy indie rock on 2019"s This Wild Willing. Safe to say he’s been on our radar for a while, so we’re mighty excited to welcome the Wroclaw-based producer on AWK005. After a strong debut release on his co-owned SPLOT imprint, an equally solid LP on Regime Brigade as well as contributions to various compilations, dadan is back with his signature moody, bass-bin shaking sound.

Hitting the sweet spot somewhere between dubstep, grime, breaks and ambient techno, these 4 tracks provide a somber yet seductive quality that invite the listener to get lost in a hazy amalgamation of stylistic elements. Rest assured, this combination of low end and rhythm heavy explorations contains the right formula to cause some damage on the dance floor.

»Lighthouse« ist das erste Album in voller Länge, das in McKagans privatem Studio entstanden ist: 11 Songs, die in Tenor und Umfang variieren.

»Ich habe sozusagen einen Ort gefunden, an dem ich mich wohlfühle, wie meine eigene Musik klingen soll«, sagt McKagan sagt. »Das sind wirklich nur einfache Punksongs, die ohne mein Geschrei auskommen. Die Themen sind breit gefächert, aber das werdet Ihr sehen und hören. Die Idee, diese Platte mit einer Ode an meine Frau zu beginnen und mit einer Ode an das Leben zu enden, verkörpert die beiden Dinge, die ich am meisten liebe."

Möbel dafür finden sie im ganzen Haus verteilt. Ein Tisch aus dem großen ehemaligen Tanzsaal; ein Stuhl aus dem Untergeschoss, in dem der Schimmel zentimenterdick und pelzig von den Wänden wächst, sodass es nach 10 Minuten schon schwerfällt zu atmen. Wenn sie nachts in den riesigen, gruseligen Gängen des Gebäudes, das noch aus der NS-Zeit stammt, unterwegs sind, verständigen Basti, Jannis und Max von YUUN sich mit Hilfe von drei kleinen bunten Spielzeug Walky-Talkies, um sich nicht zu verlieren.
