Campus Christy is a collaboration between Stones Throw Records’ founder Chris Manak aka Peanut Butter Wolf (vocals) and Brian Ellis (instruments).

Nearly 25 years after his 1999 release of ‘My Vinyl Weighs a Ton’, Manak has formed a brand new musical project, reinterpreting lesser-known tracks from the late 1960s to early 1980s. Campus Christy revives Manak’s high school garage band moniker, a niche ode to the past. Campus Christy marks a new direction for Manak, who for decades has been closely associated with underground hip-hop. ‘Very Complex’ features Piya Malik of Say She She, and ‘Candles’ also features Say She She.

Die Slowcore-/Space-Rock-Band Duster aus San Jose kehrt mit ihrem Überraschungsalbum "In Dreams" zurück und setzt damit ihre Vorliebe fort, eine offene Frage klanglich zu fassen. A fairly short-lived yet influential in San Jose. They released two demos, one which was recorded by Bart Thurber, and they are both featured on this album. Band members later moved to Operator Generator, Burn Thee Insects, High On Fire and Bliss The Triple Six.

Following several acoustic-based albums, Acid Bubblegum found pre-punk angry young man Parker roaring back into venomous form backed by an all-star band of Jimmy Destri (Blondie), Andrew Bodnar (The Rumour) and Gary Burke (Joe Jackson). Brussels based pianist Giovanni Di Domenicowas born in Rome in 1977. Majoring in 'jazz piano' at music school - he further built on an encyclopaedic technique; rhythm, harmony and tone are informed by non-western traditions yet equally sensitive to Debussy's "Préludes", Luciano Berio's "Sequenzas", to the 'ambi-ideation' heard in Borah Bergman's Soul Note recordings, Cecil Taylor's polissemic density, Paul Bley's bruised transparency and of course, the most radical manifestations stemming from the underworld of pop music, invariably tied together by his own original praxis.
A distinction - one would call it generational - he shares with many of the musicians he has crossed paths with recently, of which we could enumerate Nate Wooley, Chris Corsano, ArveHenriksen, Jim O'Rourke, Alexandra Grimal, Tetuzi Akiyama, João Lobo or Toshimaru Nakamura.
At the request of W.E.R.F. Records, Giovanni created an entirely new repertoire, teaming up with saxophonist Alexandra Grimal and drummer Eric Thielemans. This collaboration resulted in Echolalia, a suite consisting of three parts: Aoede, Melete, and Mneme. The music is captivating, adventurous, and above all, fascinating.

Whirlpool Productions "Fly Hi/Gimme" appeared first in 1993 on the one time and made up label 5th&Madison. The fascination that a young Justus Köhncke had for the then bubbling sounds, strictly rhythms and nu grooves of New York house music sparked the idea to join in the chant with a production of his own. Add his co-producer Fred Heimermann, the buzzing DJ and brilliant music journalist Hans Nieswandt and a visitor from San Francisco named Eric D. Clark, the singer Heather Sachs and samples by Mel Tormé to the flamboyant picture and you know why the records sounds like it does: swinging house music through the lenses of a colorful cast or how some German people thought New Jersey's Zanzibar would sound. Fly Hi embodies the sophisticated deep and soulful approach, while Gimme satisfies the more hysteric approach. Favoured and championed by DJs like Tony Humphries at the time, officially released by Snap's Logic Records and never vacated from Move D's record bag, it's re-issued in all its glory for the first time on Running Back. Additionally, Move D puts his fingerprint on it with a disco leaning and upbeat remix of "Gimme". Extensive liner notes by Hans Nieswandt upon request. Life is still in hi-fly!

Motion I is the debut album from Out Of/Into, the collective formerly known as The Blue Note Quintet, featuring pianist Gerald Clayton, alto saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins, vibraphonist Joel Ross, drummer Kendrick Scott, and bassist Matt Brewer. The band was formed in celebration of Blue Note Records’ 85th Anniversary and embarked on an extensive U.S. tour earlier this year during which they honed a distinctive, progressive sound that is the perfect embodiment of the Blue Note ethos. “Blue Note has been such a wonderful home for the community, for incredible musicians, for creativity, for all these years,” says Clayton. “You can’t help but think about all those masters, all those heroes that you’ve grown up listening to. To get a chance to pay tribute and try to carry some of that essence forward is truly just an honor.”

In what many consider to be the birth of jazz fusion, Emergency!, led by Tony Williams (drums) with bandmates John Mclaughlin (guitar) and Larry Young (organ), is a true adventure in the beginning of the jazz-rock blend that would take shape in late 1960s and beyond. From the opening title track, the direction is decisive and commands attention as Williams leads his crew through a mixture of swing, rock and free jazz that cements its place as one of the most influential albums of the time. I Wanna Run Barefoot Through Your Hair is the third solo album by Christopher Owens, ex-frontman of seminal indie rock band Girls (Father, Son, Holy Ghost peaked at #37 on Billboard). After losing his bandmate, getting into a motorcycle accident, and bouts of homelessness, he left San Francisco for NYC and returned to Girls’ home label True Panther. Inspired by life (and love) to write music again, Owens is finally ready to share IWRBTYH, a record about his journey back to the center of himself.

"Aguaturbia" (1970) is an essential album to understand the construction of what we know today as Chilean rock. This very influential album is raw and dynamic, featuring heavy rhythms, distortion, and exceptional phased female vocals reminiscent of Jefferson Airplane. It comprises original compositions and electrifying renditions of songs brought to fame by the likes of Tommy James & The Shondells, The Beatles and, of course, Jefferson Airplane elevating these classics to new heights of intensity and rhythmic allure. Aguaturbia's debut album was originally released in 1970 and showcases one of South America's most significant psychedelic bands from the late 60s and early 70s. Their influence in their native Chile -and beyond- was groundbreaking. It was played live in 1969 on 3 tracks, and it became an icon of transgression due to its unbridled musical aesthetics and cover art that - for the time of its irruption - meant a clear defiance of the conservative logics lived in Chile, which saw in the nudity of the cover a challenge to morality and good manners. The album is raw and dynamic, featuring heavy rhythms, distortion, and exceptional phased female vocals reminiscent of Jefferson Airplane. Guitarist Carlos Corales shines and when he played solos at the gigs, the effect on the audience was silence and euphoria at the same time, they couldn't believe what they heard. Everything was done with a professional attitude. In fact, Carlos Corales (guitar) and Willy Cavada (drums) were both professional musicians who had made a previous career in rock and roll bands.
