Es ist 2021, und eine Pandemie würgt die Welt ab - und niemand scheint Spaß zu haben. Der scheinbar unermüdliche Musikfreak Peter Tägtgren kümmert das wenig, denn er landet einen Volltreffer mit - Entschuldigung für die harte Sprache - einer verdammt eingängigen... naja, Partyhymne.

Wir sprechen natürlich über den Song ?Party in My Head' von Tägtgrens synthinfiziertem Metal-Projekt PAIN. Unser geliebter Planet mag am Ende sein, aber in der Welt von PAIN scheint immer noch nicht viel falsch zu sein, da 2024 schnell im Kalender voranschreitet.

Es kann einfach nicht sein, denn das sehnlich erwartete neue Studioalbum von PAIN, "I Am" ist bald hier - ja, nach acht Jahren des hingebungsvollen Wartens. Das kraftvoll klingende "I Am" ist wirklich eine vielseitige - wenn nicht die vielseitigste - musikalische Rakete in PAINs reicher Diskographie. Die neuen Songs bewegen sich überall mit schweren industriellen Riffs, eindringlichen melancholischen Vibes und groove-gefüllten Rhythmen - ohne Überraschungen natürlich zu vergessen.

Am 17. Mai begrüßt die Band die Veröffentlichung ihres zweiten vollständigen Albums Under The Crooked Claw über Nuclear Blast Records.

Vollgepackt mit straffen, präzisen Songs, die mit schlagkräftigen Refrains und blitzdurchzogenen Leads geladen sind, bietet jeder der 13 Tracks eine neue Horrorkurzgeschichte, die die perfekte Mischung aus Heavy Metal, Punk und Rock'nRoll oder, wie Waste es nennt, "primitiver Heavy Speed" mischt. Die Band präsentiert die erste Single mit dem Titel "Rite For Exorcism" zusammen mit einem brillant augenzwinkernden Videoclip, der von Norman Cabrera inszeniert, von Maya Kay produziert und von Rob Lucas bei Wolfpack Studios gefilmt wurde. Das Powertrio, vervollständigt durch Schlagzeuger Chris Marshall, zog im Juni 2021 nach Philadelphia, wo Arthur Rizk die Grundtracks für Under The Crooked Claw aufnahm.

Yavé Rust nahm später in Richmond Lead-Gitarren und Gesang auf, um schließlich von Rizk gemischt und von Joel Grind gemastert zu werden.

In September 2023, Arjen Lucassen sold out five performances of '01011001 - Live Beneath the Waves' at the Poppodium 013 in Tilburg, The Netherlands. Talking about the show Arjen Lucassen says: "When I wrote the 01011001 album back in 2007, it was never meant to be played live.

So I could make it as complicated as I wanted with countless instrumentalists and no less than 17 singers!" Ayreon mastermind Arjen Lucassen and keyboardist Joost van den Broek managed to gather a large number of the original cast of the 01011001 album and many special guests, including Simone Simons (Epica), Damian Wilson (Threshold), Anneke van Giersbergen, Jonas Renkse (Katatonia), Tom Englund (Evergrey), Daniel Gildenlow (Pain of Salvation), Marcela Bovio (MaYan), Brittney Slayes (Unleash the Archers), Hansi Kursch (Blind Guardian), John Jaycee Cuijpers (Praying Mantis). To a casual listener, Thiam's bold statement starkly contrasts with his melodic playing. But a closer listen to Thiam's expressive playing reveals a thoughtful voice that stands out from the crop of contemporary guitarists. "What I should be singing (with words) I'm instead saying with my guitar," he says. Hailing from the sleepy fishing Senegalese fishing town of Podor, home of the great Baaba Maal, Thiam taught himself guitar by playing along to late-night radio broadcasts of Manding music. He soon developed his style, often reworking Pulaar folk themes into his compositions. On Africa Yontii, Thiam's third album for Sahel Sounds, he teamed up with hip-hop beat maker Ndiaye Moctar from studio M.N. Records to provide accompaniment, integrating unexpected elements such as field recordings and electronic sounds. In the liner notes for Africa Yontii, Thiam voices his concerns about the lack of opportunities for Africa's youth and the lonely road that can come with leaving behind loved ones in the hope of a better life. He also sprinkles in a philosophical query about the eroding state of the world alongside two more hopeful, traditional offerings in the form of wedding and river songs. Despite the sometimes heavy subject matter, Thiam's love for his homeland and heritage shines through. Tidiane Thiam's Africa Yontii reclaims the maligned "world music" genre within a sonic space that has long been dominated by others telling the story. As the title suggests - It's time!

Amerikanische Death Metal-Klassiker neu gemastert! Die legendäre Chicagoer Death Metal-Band Oppressor wurde 1991 von Bassist/Sänger Tim King und Gitarrist Adam Zadel gegründet, bald kamen Gitarrist Jim Stopper und Schlagzeuger Tom Schofield hinzu.

Oppressor hat sich neu formiert und spielt wieder live! 1993 nahmen Oppressor zwei Demos auf... und ihr zweites Demo, "As Blood Flows" von 1993, brachte sie unter Vertrag. Dieses Demo war mit über 30 Minuten Spielzeit und einer anständigen Produktion eine sehr starke Veröffentlichung. Im darauffolgenden Jahr wurde das Debütalbum "Solstice of Oppression" veröffentlicht, das von ausgiebigen Tourneen begleitet wurde, aber das Label von Oppressor ging kurz darauf in Konkurs. Um ihren Namen in der Öffentlichkeit zu halten, veröffentlichten Oppressor eine halb Live-, halb Studio-Compilation namens "European Oppression Live/As Blood Flows", Live-Material, das sie auf ihrer europäischen Support-Tour für ihr Debüt gesammelt hatten, und Studiomaterial, das aus dem kompletten "As Blood Flows"-Demo der Band von 1993 bestand.

Guitarist/Bassist Stephen Flam is best known for his previous work with the band Winter, whose sludgy dirge earned a cult following for years to come. Göden is the spiritual successor to Winter. One could say Celtic Frost is to Triptykon what Winter is to Göden. Their debut album, “Beyond Darkness” stood on its own in creating a distinctive world. Now, four years later, they explore new sonic territories with their second album, “Vale of the Fallen”. While "Beyond Darkness" was a concept album that propelled listeners into space, whether inner or outer, “Vale of the Fallen” brings us back to twisted reality. Their more in-your-face approach should only intensify the experience-much like a walk through a post-apocalyptic landscape in the bleakest imaginable conditions. Sound-wise, Stephen Flam's heavier-than-life riffs, Vas Kallas's sardonic delivery and Tony Pinnisi's keyboards create oppressive atmospheres atop Jason Frantz's powerful drumming, while Margaret Murphy’s violin weaves ghostly motifs. Like its predecessor, “Vale of the Fallen” features interludes which provide brief respites between some tracks, only to return to the crushing heaviness in yet another avalanche of sound.
