Peter Tosh war ein Reggae-Multi-Instrumentalist aus Jamaika, der zusammen mit Bunny Wailer und natürlich Bob Marley zu den Gründern der legendären Band The Wailers gehörte. »Equal Rights« ist sein zweites Studioalbum und dasjenige, das ihn an die Spitze des Reggae katapultierte und ihn als potenziellen Rivalen von Marley etablierte. Das ist zwar nicht ganz gelungen, aber »Equal Rights« ist immer noch eines der einflussreichsten Reggae-Alben aller Zeiten.

Tosh war ein großer Verfechter der Menschenrechte und das spiegelt sich auch in der Tracklist wider. Natürlich gibt es eine Version von »Get Up, Stand Up«, die zusammen mit Bob Marley geschrieben wurde, aber »I Am That I Am«, »Downpressor Man« (eine Version von Sinnerman, die durch Nina Simone berühmt wurde), »Stepping Razor« und »Apartheid« wurden alle zu eigenständigen Menschenrechtshymnen. 1987 wurde Tosh bei einem Raubüberfall getötet und ließ Reggae-Fans auf der ganzen Welt mit der Frage zurück, was hätte sein können.

Candiria’s classic album 300 Percent Density reissued on vinyl in February Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, Candiria is one of the precursors of the mathcore genre. Formed in 1992 by vocalist Carley Coma, guitarists Chris Puma and Eric Matthews, and drummer/bassist/keyboardist/trumpeter Kenneth Schalk, the band was part of the second wave of New York hardcore, but subsequently expanded its performance to also play jazz, hip hop and progressive rock. 300 Percent Density is Candiria’s fourth studio album, originally released by Century Media in 2001. J. J. Johnson gilt als der erste Musiker, dem es gelang, die Sprache des Bebop auf der Posaune zu artikulieren. Nachdem er 1952 an der ersten Blue-Note-Session von Miles Davis mitgewirkt hatte, aus der
das Album “Young Man with a Horn” hervorging, ermöglichte der Produzent Alfred Lion dem Posaunisten,
zwischen 1953 und 1955 mit anderen Größen des Bebop eine Reihe von Aufnahmesessions unter eigenem
Namen zu machen. Diese erschienen 1956 auf den beiden 12-inch-Compilations “The Eminent Jay Jay
Johnson, Vol. 1” und “The Eminent Jay Jay Johnson, Vol. 2”. Letztere enthält laut AllMusic “einige der
besten Bebop-Aufnahmen jener Zeit”
