Die pandemiebedingte Livepause schuf Freiraume fur konzeptionelle Weiterentwicklungen: Beschritt das letzte Album ,Alice' (2018) bereits neue stilistische Wege, wurde das Kaleidoskop musikalischen Anspielungen nochmals erweitert; dazu schlossen sich Thomas Zehnle und Paul Schwarz als Produzenten zusammen. Aufgenommen wurde überwiegend in Stuttgart, wo Schwarz als Teil einer Studiogemeinschaft Räume betreibt (Hotel Chelsea Love Connection). Das Mastering erfolgte durch Enyang Urbiks. Das Artwork entstand in Kooperation von Levin Stadler (Levin goes Lightly) und Dan Trautwein, letzterer zeigte sich auch für die Videoproduktion verantwortlich. Karies sind Benjamin Schröter, Max Nosek und Paul Schwarz, nachdem Jan Rumpela (Gitarre) auf unbestimmte Zeit eine Pause eingelegt hat. Paul Schwarz, der 2018 am Schlagzeug für Livegigs aushalf, prägte mehr und mehr durch seine Rolle als Engineer und Produzent das neue Material und trug so maßgeblich zum neuen Album bei. Karies gründeten sich 2012. Nach der ersten EP 2013, kam 2014 das von Max Rieger produzierte Album ,Seid umschlungen, Millionen' via This Charming Man Records, das seitdem als Label fungiert. Es folgten Touren und Supportgigs (Beatsteaks, Tocotronic, Sleaford Mods). 2016 erschien das zweite Album, ,Es geht sich aus' ("Postpunk war selten derart einsam, schön und perfekt zugleich." - Ox). Seit 2016 sind Karies Teil des Rosters der Bookingagentur Powerline-Agency. 2018 veröffentlichen Karies ihr drittes Album, Alice abermals von Max Rieger produziert.

It's hard not to see the hype around BRUIT= as the next big thing in post-rock. While their 2018 EP Monolith provided a promising indication of their son- ic ambition, it was their debut LP The Machine is Burning and Now Everyone Knows It Could Happen Again which really set off the trig- ger. Receiving rave reviews around the globe and selling out the first vinyl pressing of 3.000 copies within less than a year, BRUIT= have no need to prove themselves beyond what they have already achieved so far. Consisting of three musical meditations, Apologie du Temps Perdu Eng. apology for time wasted sees BRUIT= cut down on their massive sound in favour of a more subtle contem- plation. In contrast with their recent streaming single «Parasite (The Boycott Manifesto)» with its direct message for Spotify CEO Daniel Ek and his listeners, the band have seemingly forgone their activist agenda paring back the grand thematic gestures and poignant spoken-word excerpts. Instead, BRUIT= let the music do the talking, reaching an activism which is more visceral, but all the more personal. "This ambient EP is conceived as a comma between our first album and the next one," explains bass player & violinist Cle'ment Libes about the purpose of this record. The friendship between Al Cisneros (Sleep/Om) and Kevin Martin (The Bug/King Midas Sound) begun when King Midas Sound supported OM at the Scala in London in 2012. Subsequently the duo quickly realised via passionately animated conversations, that they shared a serous addiction to reggae 7", and in particular, a mutually insatiable appetite for roots and the deepest dub versions being consistently transmitted from Jamaica...This resulted in Cisneros, then inviting Martin to specifically drop hardcore dub sessions as support to Sleep in Berlin, and on tour with OM. It was during the European Om tour in 2019, that Cisneros offered to record an ep for The Bug's fledgling PRESSURE label. And now 'Rosin' is the fulfilment of that promise. Al's side of the single, showcases the low end specialist extending the bassbin pounding methodologies of those incredible b-line masters who first inspired him to relentlessly explore the infinitely resonant worlds of bass and space. So 'Rosin Immersion' and it's subsequent dub 'Dabby You', echo 'Flabba Holt's classic work with the Roots Radics or Robbie Shakespeare 's tremendous output for Channel One with The Revolutionaries...These devastating mixes extend the hallowed roots tradition that Cisneros worships, and gleefully opts for an even lower, slower, grind .... It's another fantastic example of Al's parallel dub world, that he has been tirelessly promoting with his incredible Sinai label releases for the past few years, as he simultaneously continues to reshape Metal with Sleep and zoned 'out' rock with Om too. On the flipside, Martin took up Al's invitation to remix his original song, but Kevin here opts for radical mutation instead of homage. What may have begun as a single remix, ends as two militantly distinct future dubs aimed straight at the body and dome...Echoing Kevin's recent collaborations with Will Bevan aka Burial, for their collaborative Flame series, as previously released on PRESSURE, this pair of thundering tracks reflect The Bug at his most immersive and psychedelic. 'Fathoms' and '50 hz' revel in their otherness, and the sonic sorcery of his Brussels based sound lab. The twin rhythms are undoubtedly inspired by the spirit of The Bug's production heroes Scientist, King Tubby or Adrian Sherwood, but are set adrift in a futuristic sci-fi format for ambient heads and sound system disciples alike to get fully lost in.

Dooley-O commands you to STICK YOURSELF! But not before stocking his new 45 please. Bankrupt Europeans (who have previously produced for RA The rugged Man, Roc Marciano, Chill Rob G, Chubb Rock, AG, Phill Most Chill, Rise and MC Juice) started a back&forth with 90s legend and Stezo cohort Dooley-O a few years ago, even recorded a couple of demos but it wasn't until 2021 that we all had a chance to do this properly! Hands down two of the hardest and snappiest Bankrupt Europeans beats to complement Dooley-O's incredible punchlines and murderous flow. Dooley-O shows that not only has he not lost a step since the days of releases on Stones Throw and Lewis Recordings, but if anything his skills have sharpened over the years!

The A-Side is Stick Yourself and sees Bankrupt Europeans bring this absolute head nodder of a beat, heavy but very funky and laced with modular synth sounds and cuts from DJ Grazzhoppa throughout. Dooley-O’s tongue-in-cheek rap style is sharper than Rambo’s knife as he proceeds to encourage you to Stick Yourself or risk being taken out by himself. There is this comedic bravado here that has Dooley-O displaying just how good his rap style is, while between the lines he saying ‘I’m that good, I shouldn’t have to take you out, that’s your job But, If I have to do it, it ain’t gonna be pretty.’ Flipping it to the B-Side for track 2 we have Death Blow that hits hard with a brooding intro before the heavy bass and eastern sounds inject more adrenaline into your veins! Dooley-O continues the lyrical assault he began in Stick Yourself. Here he delivers a cold and calculated volley of witty punchlines with ease. His plan here is plain and simple, which is to deliver a brutal Death Blow to all those suckers left walking and talking

Widely known for his work on the Blue Note and Venus labels, his résumé includes performing with many of the leading artists of our time, ranging from Phil Woods, Gerry Mulligan, Wynton Marsalis, Freddy Cole and Houston Person, to singers Tony Bennett and Barbra Streisand. Charlap's album with Tony Bennett,The Silver Lining, The Songs of Jerome Kernwon them both Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album in the 58th Annual Grammy Awards.

Known also for his interpretations of American popular songs, Charlap he has recorded albums featuring the music of Hoagy Carmichael, Leonard Bernstein and George Gershwin.

Brigid O'Neill's new album The Truth & Other Stories, recorded at Skinny Elephant Studios in Nashville with Neilson Hubbard in the producer's chair, cannot help but be influenced by the times which informed it, 'very few people escaped being affected by the pandemic, writers included.

Somehow the experiences of it seeped through onto our work and I feel The Truth and Other Stories is no exception in that regard.'
That said, this is not specifically an album about Covid or the pandemic, 'I was fascinated by the concept of 'truth' and intrigued by the concept of everyone having a different version of their truth....a personal viewpoint, their own narrative, their own story. The title plays a bit with shades of meaning - a 'counter positioning' if you like. The 'other stories' may challenge the truth, but 'the truth'
retains that sense of the absolute. In the songs I hope to present the realities of different characters through short stories. As I moved through the pandemic however, different stories came to light and sometimes the focus would shift.

Ultimately though, I have been living with these stories and these characters for some time now.'
Neilson Hubbard as producer was an obvious choice for O'Neill. A growing relationship with Nashville had seen her writing, playing and developing relationships with the many truly great musicians available across Music City.

"Being in Nashville with a producer like Neilson who has such an intuitive feel for that music, and with access to musicians who simply live and breathe it, seemed like a good idea. I'd met Neilson a few times through our mutual friend and musician Ben Glover, and it was quickly clear we would get along and had a similar attitude to the music production process. When choosing a music
producer, listening to their catalogue of works is crucial, but so too I think is that 'gut feeling' and knowledge that you can connect. When I sent Neilson my music, I knew he 'got it' and I knew I was in safe hands." Recent years have seen Brigid O'Neill gaining a deserved reputation as one of Ireland's finest songwriters. Reviews of her critically acclaimed latest releases
have reaffirmed that the gifted artist is one of the most versatile, unique and fearless storytellers on the island. Her genre-spanning music appeals to multiple generations, effortlessly weaving elements of folk, country and jazz into relatable tales of happiness, heartbreak and the human condition.

"Giù la testa" (Duck, you sucker, 1971) is also the fifth collaboration between the
director and Ennio Morricone, which would be followed by "Once Upon a Time in
America" nearly 15 years later, before Leone's premature death in 1989.
Now a world famous and feted director, Leone directed "Giù la testa" an epic film
that tells of the friendship between a Mexican bandit and an Irish explosives
expert during the 1913 Mexican Revolution. With a over two hours running time,
the film has the tones of a Hollywood extravaganza, but it is only occasionally
accompanied by Morricone's music, which focuses more on the romance and
melancholy triggered by the two protagonist's memories.
This score's main theme is extremely memorable and makes this a classic
soundtrack. Thanks to the recurring "Sean- Sean" tune, and the melody sung by
Edda Dell'Orso, a theme that is universally recognized.

The soundtrack was composed, orchestrated and directed by Ennio Morricone and was infused with romance and ethereal melodies played with wind instruments but set like a symphony. With the contribution of I Cantori Moderni di Alessandro Alessandroni's choir and Oscar Valdambrini's trumpet. Unusually within Morricone's repertoire is the presence of funk-rock and disco songs "Dance
On" and "Space 1999", reflecting the late '70s pop sound.

Originally released in 1978 and subsequently reissued a few times, the
soundtrack of "Così come sei" was not released on vinyl for almost 40 years and is now finally re- released with remastered audio and a new sleeve layout, on 180gr. solid pink vinyl

Although better known as an actor and a sex symbol, the unforgettable Marilyn Monroe was also a highly personal vocalist. Even though she occasionally took lessons in the intervals while filming her movies, her singing remained mostly intuitive, and her voice evoked sensuality and glamour.

Die reichen Facetten von Kefers Zugang zu Musik, die Qualitäten und das ganze Spektrum dessen, was sie als Komponistin, Texterin und Instrumentalistin - Singer/Songwriterin oder Liedermacherin dafür als Beschreibung zu ungenau, zu eng - macht und zum Ausdruck bringt, macht diese Lieder aus ...hoid als seit 2020 entstandenes, geschriebenes und aufgenommenes Album ist eine Brücke, eine Klammer, für vermeintlich widersprüchliche Erfahrungen und künstlerische Reaktionen darauf. Unser aller spezieller Lebenssituationen durch die Corona-Pandemie, den unmenschlichen Krieg in der Ukraine und den drohenden ökologischen Kollaps sind sein so verunsicherndes größeres wie dynamisches Setting. Das Musikmachen, das Liederschreiben schon für sich ein Stück Normalität und Positionierung zugleich. So sehr Sibylle Kefer sich in diesen Liedern mit Ungleichbehandlung, Ungerechtigkeiten und Grenzüberschreitungen befasst, so sehr klingt dabei immer ihre prinzipiell positive, hoffnungsvolle Grundhaltung durch, baut sie immer bewusst "Hoffnungsanstöße" in ihre Lieder ein: "Damit man weiß, wogegen, woran, womit man arbeitet, es zu tun hat."Die Lieder des Albums hat Kefer dabei zunächst im home-recording aufgenommen und zu produzieren begonnen, sich dabei über das Schreiben der Texte und Musik hinaus ein zusätzliches Skill-Set erarbeitet. Da ein Wesen der Musik, des Musikmachens von Sibylle Kefer immer Zusammenarbeit und Austausch bleiben, fanden sich auch in der Immer-Wieder-Isolation der Pandemie Möglichkeiten, mit vielen befreundeten und geschätzten Musiker_innen zu arbeiten. Nicht zuletzt formierte Sibylle Kefer, selbst bei Ernst Molden & das Frauenorchester nicht wegzudenken, während der Arbeit an hoid ihr eigenes Trio, ihre Band. Mit E-Bassistin Sarah Brait und Schlagzeuger Chris Pruckner wird sie zukünftig (nicht nur) die Songs von hoid auf die Konzert-Bühnen bringen. Ganz zentral für die Fertigstellung des Albums die Arbeit mit Martin Siewert, gemeinsam mit dem Musiker und Komponisten wurden die Lieder schließlich in ihre endgültige Form gebracht, in der sie nun auf hoid zu hören sind und darauf warten ihrem Publikum zu begegnen.

But in the mid-1950s, Rock 'n' Roll began to replace RnB in America, and Jamaican dancehall owners like Duke Reid and Clement Dodd turned to local musicians to record their own versions of American RnB.
The trend of covering foreign hits exploded during the Ska heyday of the early 60s and continued through the Rocksteady and Reggay eras. Jamaican musicians have covered virtually every genre of music, from jazz and rock to film scores, television soundtracks, pop, classical music and more. Over the years, they have also recorded many "versions" of already existing covers. Cover of cover of cover…
Admittedly, some of these covers were futile but many were sublime as this new and eclectic collection of Ska, Rocksteady and Reggay nuggets, compiled by the very competent and very charming D.J. Héléa, brilliantly demonstrates. Attention we are here "undercover", there are no well-known covers. Some of the tracks selected are rare, others unknown or forgotten - but all are excellent and blended in an impeccable mix, in line with previous the Harlem Shuffle compilations... All Killer, No Filler!
REGGAY UNDERCOVER is an exciting musical kaleidoscope of Jamaican and Reggae music from the early 60s through to the mid 70s.

After his superlative and rather unexpected foray into Afro and Latin fusion with his Sol Set project, John Beltran returns to more familiar territory with a rendition of his classic mid-90s album 'Ten Days of Blue' recorded at this year's Dekmantel in Amsterdam. We get a real feel for the whole gig experience, from the sound of murmured anticipation and intro tape to the resolution at the outro and the main meat of the music itself - lively, optimistic, groovy but understated and chilled at the same time - sits somewhere between his ambient and harder techno work. Among Beltran's very finest output.

Lovesick – everyone knows it, everyone hates it. Everyone feels alone. Everyone questions the previous relationship and what has been said during it. Everyone tries to numb the pain of this all-encompassing suffering with alcohol and drugs. Everyone calls at four in the morning and leaves embarrassing love confessions on the answering machine that will be never heard. Everyone feels alone and tries to find solace in casual acquaintances in bars, only to be turned away for being pushy. Everyone lays up for weeks stalking the likely reason this relationship ended, oh! It didn’t have to end, it was all so nice and this new one can’t be good and he/she won’t be good if the plans I’ve been making here for nights come true…oh how nice would this be! Oh it can’t be, maybe I just can’t be loved… maybe I just should…

Performed and produced entirely without the use of MIDI and other modern production techniques, MAINE’s IV is a fiercely analogue affair, a throwback to the electronic pioneers of the past. Real synthesizers, real drums, real strings – each instrument played live. Each layer of sound deconstructed and carefully rebuilt to create new sounds, giving way to a wholly unique sonic signature that permeates each track and is undeniably MAINE. Never have 14 individual compositions been more made for each other. With IV, Michel Dupay has crafted a deeply connected and emotive experience full of melancholy and tension; it’s heavy, gothic, and dark, but on occasion manages to let a bit of light seep in, providing the listener with a brief (and much needed) emotional reprieve. It’s this juxtaposition that makes the album so engaging and such a rewarding listen. Prepare yourself – you are going to get lost in this album, and when you finally find your way out, you won’t be the same. This is an effort that demands all of your attention. Best enjoyed from the comfort of your very own sensory deprivation tank. But if you’re having trouble locating it at the moment, a darkened room and a weighted blanket will likely do just fine.

Emotional Rescue turn their attention to Rare Silk and their sublime cult classic "Storm". It's one of those rare tracks with a wonderful otherworldly quality that manages to be smooth and accessible, and somehow not like anything you've ever heard before. It must be somewhere in the mix, between the dreamy harmonized vocals, lush instrumentation and curious sense of space. The original on the A side is a treat enough, but then throw in a mercurial dubbed out version by Arp on the flip and you've got yourself a 12 inch portal to a most delightful dimension.
