Hip-Hop Vinyl New Releases - News

Theme Ltd. is back with its fourth wave of exclusive releases, this time on one-sided 7” vinyl. Allow these tracks to guide you through their diverse production as they blend genres and tone to provide insight into their fresh production technique.

‘Everywhere’ positions the listener in a gentle mood for love. Snares snap and mix with a slightly discordant, far piano as lyrics and chords bounce off each other at a steady tempo. We are apprehended by the doleful vocals that invite us to gaze with an ‘illuminated stare’, and as we diffuse into the end of the song, a cool-aired beat breakdown leaves us in media res. A sprawl of love left everywhere. Great !

Another Terra Magica release is coming! The new ‚Axisdance‘ - Various Artists (TERRAM003) double-vinyl 12″ compilation coming out this summer August/September on Terra Magica Rec.

With artists from all over the world such as Poly Chain, Mogwaa, Jacques Satre, Jai, DJ Normal 4, Imogen Soundsystem – Ilija Rudman and Antonio Zuza, Gee Dee, Rambal Cochet, Listensport, Johnmon and Hektisch Sprengen DJs.

Every track has its own spirit, in a kind of a 90s journey way. The compilation is a fascinating mixture of weird cosmic and slow goa vibes to more emotional places with powerful bassdriven downtempo techno and slightly trance influenced anthems as well as distinctive tribal acid easiness with epic melodies. Furthermore it involves faster loaded minimal hypnotic synth sounds and dark UK-House with a big-beat touch to it. Raw liquid floating old skool breaks melts into rave stompers which are inhabited by sensitive living microbes vibrating jungle atmospheres.

Perhaps one of the most exciting and anticipated projects in the world of heavy instrumental music is Parlor Greens, a fresh organ trio on Colerine Records! You could say that Parlor Greens are greater than the sum of their parts.. however, the individual parts are simply stellar on their own. Tim Carman (GA-20) on drums, Jimmy James (True Loves, formerly Delvon Lamar Organ Trio) on guitar, and Adam Scone (Scone Cash Players, The Sugarman 3) on organ. Parlor Greens started off as an idea before it even had a name. Carman had been chatting with Colemine label boss Terry Cole about their shared love for organ combo records of yesterday on labels like Blue Note and Prestige. Cole said he'd love to have an organ trio be the first project at the label's new studio, Portage Lounge, located in Loveland, Ohio, So when Carman tapped James and Scone for the session, the stage was set. Carman and Cole had started work a day early to dial in the drum sound, so when the rest of this murderer's row arrived they hit the ground running. It was instant chemistry, Within the first ten minutes of everyone plugging in, a song was written and recorded, "West Memphis". And over the next three days, these three maestros conducted a beautiful and soulful symphony straight to tape. As natural and fun as three old friends getting together after a long absence, only this was the first time they had written and performed together. True magic. So this is the result of that session. Eleven outs. Ten originals. Two sides. All killer, no filler. Straight to the old reliable Tascam 3BB tape machine, mixed up nice and dirty for your enjoyment. Parlor Greens are proud to present their debut long player, in Green / We Dream.

Freshly following their debut LP, Colemine Records is here to introduce the newest 45 from Thee Sinseers. The A-side, "For You" is a man's devotional message that promises it's the real deal this time. The group's sweet, verbed out harmonies set the stage for Joey Quinoñes' artful croon. The B-side is the instrumental version of their album's closing track, "Sinseerly Yours." Here it's aptly renamed "Si Llorarás" (if you will cry). This tune sends the listener off into the sunset with a gentle lap steel guitar tune reminiscent of Santo & Johnny's "Sleepwalk."

Everybody's still talking about the good ol 'days! A rough and rugged collection of ol' dirty classics that have inspired swarms of killer beats. A head nod to the sounds of Shaolin, the twelve chambers of Shanghai'd Soul have moved lyrical chefs and production geniuses alike to compose some of their most ominous hip-hop. Gods and Earths a like will appreciate the raw funk and smoother-than-a-Lexus soul that come to gether like Voltron on this special compilation. As sampled b y J. Cole, The Game, Cappadonna, The Avalanches, Kanye West, Hudson Mohawke, Anderson.Paak, Loyle Corner, Meek Mill, T.I., Quavo, Danny Brown, and hundreds more.

Few years before the international hit Uptown Top Ranking', made with his friend Donna, Althea Forrest recorded Hey Mister' for famous producer (and singer) Derrick Harriott.

Mid 1970's, Derrick Harriott is the best reggae-soul producer in Jamaica. He's made tons of US soul cover with Jamaican artists. Hey Mister' was recorded at Federal studios (Tuff Gong nowadays) and didn't get an international audience, not even in Jamaica, probably because it was not a cover!

For the first time since 1976, Hey Mister' is now available on a Maxi vinyl 12'' to offer the best sound quality. Thanks to Derrick Harriott's master tapes and to the original artwork, now you can play this tune in the perfect condition.

The re-release series of original Ethiopian classic vinyl continues -- the finest Ethio jazz by Mahmoud Ahmed and his band from 1975 plus two tracks from 1978.The liner notes: 'Melancholy blues, piercingly minimalist country airs, brassy, danceable urban jazz, heart-wrenching, off-key crooners: a rich and stirring patchwork of sounds, crossing Afro-beat, Latino-swing moves and Eastern arabesques (Anas Prosac).' Such were the first -- informed and enthusiastic -- opinions of the music press when the first strains of modern Ethiopian music sounded on our shores. This was in 1984-1985. Such a positive note, struck about such a country at such a time, created plenty of reverb. The country had been so thoroughly trashed by the media's feeding-frenzy, which spewed out a mix of horror and pious pity, bitter denunciation and humanitarian appeals, wallet-tickling clichs and refusal of identity. In one brutal swoop, TV-reality transformed Ethiopia into a cursed nation, forsaken by God and by man. In contrast to these tragedies, but in the same hackneyed tones, Mahmoud Ahmed's life resembles an edifying fairy-tale where destiny, talent and achievement combine to triumph over poverty, fate and the evil eye. Biography, history and legend, with the help of God, infallibly weave the lesson of merit rewarded. But who can argue, in spite of the mockery that celebrities invariably draw, when faced with one of the greatest voices in all of Africa? Once upon a time, there was a street urchin in Addis Ababa, who started off as a shoe-shine boy and went on to become one of his country's biggest stars, opening the door to Ethiopian music to Western audiences. --Francis Falceto

'Erotic Probitoic' is Nourished By Time’s debut EP on Scenic Route, following hot on the heels of his featured track , ‘Wild Thang, Sweet Thang’, on the critically acclaimed Scenic Route 16-track digital compilation, The Road Less Travelled Vol.1, supported by BBC 1Xtra, Dazed, CRACK, BBC 6 Music, Lot Radio, NTS, The Wire and Resident Advisor. The Erotic Probiotic is an intimate glimpse into the world of Baltimore native, whose two track EP shows the duplicity of this exciting singer/songwriter/producer.

Side A, ‘Give It Away’, a beautiful multi layered serenade, showcasing the breadth of his vocal range, with delicate textures sprinkled throughout; heartaching guitar riffs and celestial chords enveloping you into this contagious dream pop melody. Give It Away is a lush R&B ballad about choosing yourself over love but choosing love over pride. The Live performance video was shot at his sold out Servant Jazz Quarters show, in April, directed by Jono Canning.

Staring Into The Fireplace, a relatable anarchist anthem for anyone working a dead-end job, filled with angst and a foreboding energy driven by eerie drums and a melancholy tone. Written whilst employed by Whole Foods during COVID , spraying down shopping carts, what he describes as “the most soul destroying job”. The song explores America’s social constructs moulded by race and capitalism, through his gravelly baritone vocals over lo-fi punk sound, with lyrics reinforcing his ‘bun down Babylon’ sentiment. Along with a self directed music video.

The Erotic Probiotic is the first EP with Scenic Route as he looks to cultivate his unique off beat, guitar driven pop sound in the lead up to his album.

There is very little info out there about the Milkcrate Mondays label but we do know that their only other release last year was well hyped and quickly sold out. This second one is likely to follow suit. It comes from Able and is a dusty house cut with an old school feel thanks to the gentle breaks that power it along as a signature smoky soul vocal from Amy Winehouse brings plenty of emotion to a-side cut 'Winehouse Magic'. On the flip is 'Drake Punk' which pairs Daft Punk filter house loops with auto-tuned vocals all sure to bring some fun to the 'floor.

Released on Cherry Red in 1981, Threat To Creation spotted the collaboration between two mystical entities: Creation Rebel and New Age Steppers. Forerunners of the british dub scene the two bands shared several members, a who’s who of the On U-Sound school and key figures of the Bristol and London scene. Adrian Sherwood is – obviously – the man behind the desk a craftsman on its own, a character with no borders and one of the most sought after producer of the time. The supergroup is ran by post-punk stalwarts Bruce Smith (The Pop Group) on drums and Keith Levene (PIL) on guitar. Ari Up of The Slits sits on piano and organ, while masters Crucial Tony is both on bass and guitars. Members of African Head Charge – bass player George Oban, Eskimo Fox and Style Scott on drums – are welcomed addition to the line-up. Threat To Creation is still recognizable as an album ahead of its time, a futuristic blend filling the gap between the Jamaican heritage, the so-called (post) industrial revolution and the studio witchery of the whitey man.
