Night Food, released in 1976, is one of the final Heptones albums featuring original lead singer Leroy Sibbles. During the time recorded to attract an international audience, recorded at Harry J.’s studio. Older material is combined with fresh songs from the mid-‘70s, which make it a versatile record. The vocal performances are as great as ever, and they’re showing how they could reinterpreted classics by their own. “Book Of Rules”, perhaps one of the most iconic songs in the reggae, is featured on the album in its most beautiful way. The release includes an insert with lyrics.
The Heptones were one of the more significant trios of the 1960s and 1970s, and played a major role in the gradual transition between ska and rocksteady into reggae with their three-part harmonies.

Cool Rasta is an album by The Heptones, which consisted of Earl Morgan, Barry Llewellyn, and Leroy Sibbles. Brought up in the Trench Town area of Kingston, their first successful record was “Fatty Fatty”, first released in 1966. Since then, they have had several hits including “Country Boy”, “Mama Say” and “Book Of Rules”. At the guiding hand of top producer, Harry Johnson they recorded Cool Rasta, which came out in 1976.
The title track of the album is a typical example of The
Heptones at their brilliant best.
Cool Rasta is available as a limited edition of 750 individually numbered copies on orange coloured vinyl.

'Cook sings her desire and pain into an exalted, beaming sway" - Pitchfork... Swapping the clubs for the sun-kissed Caribbean beaches, Hollie Cook puts her lovers rock spin on the UK garage classic 'Sweet Like Chocolate' by Shanks & Bigfoot, ahead of her forthcoming UK tour. 'Sweet Like Chocolate' is a playful yet refined reworking of the 90s club favourite, following her successful 'Vessel Of Love' LP release earlier this year. Coming to fruition after the bass guitarist played the track backstage, Hollie spotted an opportunity to step out of her comfort zone and try something new. She explains 'I thought that would be a great one to try, and slightly more contemporary than my previous cover attempts!' Hollie's third LP was described by Pitchfork as, "pristine" and received further critical acclaim in the form of 'Album of The Day' on BBC 6 Music - following several A-listed singles - as well as support from Beats 1, Metro, Noisey, Refinery 29 and The Guardian. The confident return was also a commercial success, taking the top spot on the Billboard Reggae Chart and reaching number three in the UK Independent Album Breakers Chart. Ever active on the live circuit Hollie recently joined David Rodigan for prestigious London shows at The Royal Albert Hall, Somerset House and the Southbank Centre, sold out the Jazz Café in London and played with Rudimental at Sofar Sounds' Amnesty International fundraiser. Her touring schedule continues this summer following sets at The Biggest Weekend, Latitude and Dour, with dates at Standon Calling, Oya, Boomtown and Festival No 6 - before completing another UK tour throughout October. With 'Vessel of Love' Hollie has proved her mainstream appeal whilst becoming one of the most prominent female voices in the scene - and with a choccy-block touring schedule for the rest of the year, this will be her sweetest summer yet.

,My father always said I would be a singer. But I discovered lovers rock on my own. I heard it on pirate radio and with friends, and I was bewildered, enchanted," erinnert sich COOK. "The Slits are the reason I have pursued this career. I was surrounded by powerful women at a young age, and when my time came, I was never fazed by male dominance. They were my wall of courage." Auf diesen kämpferischen Fundament ist HOLLIEs Liebe zur Musik entstanden. Ihre gefühlvolle Direktheit auf ,Happy Hour" ist so nachvollziehbar wie authentisch. ,I can't get away from it" sagt sie. ,Making this music that I love, I do turn deep inside myself. It makes me explore a lot of human truths and feelings that we should not shy away from, and it feels like a release to turn them into songs."

Almost fifteen years since the release of her self-titled debut LP on Mr Bongo, reggae’s orator of love Hollie Cook is returning to the label for Shy Girl, her fifth studio album and her most authentic yet. Woven with tight grooves, beautiful vocals and catchy melodies, Shy Girl hears singer and songwriter Hollie Cook revel in her contemporary lovers rock sound, more confident and open to vulnerability than ever before.
A sun-drenched exploration of love in all its guises, Shy Girl tells stories of the magical and the melancholy, the heart-lifting and heart-breaking, across 12 luscious, analogue reggae compositions - the culmination of a soft-hued and instantly recognisable “tropical pop” sound that Cook has made her own.
Put together across three years and four cities – from LA and NYC, to Vejer de la Frontera in Spain and Cook’s hometown London – Shy Girl was written with long-time collaborators, The General Roots Band, and features a contribution from legendary dub MC Horseman, who lends his voice to the album’s first single ‘Night Night’.
The album opens with the title track ‘Shy Girl’, a buoyant and elastic slice of lovers rock that was written in a moment of spontaneous intuition, and bubbles with a charisma and positivity that Cook radiates. “I’m not a natural show-off,” Cook explains. “The Shy Girl theme is me. It’s just about being my most vulnerable self and being as true to the music that Iove as possible.” It is this honesty which shines throughout, from the chugging deep dub of ‘Frontline’, complete with raking electric guitar lines, to the bittersweet roots ballad ‘We Share Love’, which closes out the album.
It's clear to see that Cook’s songwriting draws on a lifetime of musical influences and inspirations. From her father, Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook’s record collection and touring with post-punk icon Ari Up’s The Slits, to her love for strong female-led pop music and the bassweight of London’s sound system culture. Enamoured with the music of Janet Kay and Phyllis Dillon, Shy Girl represents a homecoming and a coming-of-age for Hollie Cook, distilling and refining a shimmering reggae sound that will capture your heart, as it first captured hers.

To back such a legendary artist, TABOU1 asked Sly & Robbie and the Revolutionaries (Channel One studio band in the late 70's) to work the "old school" way: all musicians would play live, together and in one take, as opposed to recording their parts separately as is now done in modern music. The result is stunning, with luminaries Ansel Collins and Robbie Lyn on keyboards and organ, Sticky Thompson and Skully Sims on percussions, Dalton Browne and Dougie Bryan on guitar. Bob Marley's synth wizard Tyrone Downie added some musical pixie dust while Stepper did the horns.

Blackman's Foundation is one of the great roots albums of the classic reggae era. Hugh Mundell, who was tragically murdered at the age of 21, was one of the most talented young roots reggae artists on the Jamaican scene.
A protégé of dub legend Augustus Pablo, Hugh recorded the legendary roots-classic album "Africa Must Be Free (By 1983)" at the age of 16. Blackman's Foundation, is one of only three Hugh Mundell albums ever released. As such it is a precious artifact of Mundell's prodigious talent as it features Mundell's keening, hypnotic declamatory vocals over deep, powerful reggae riddims. Highlights of Blackman's Foundation include the hit single "Can't Pop No Style," the extended 12' version of the title track featuring Jah Bull and the classic single "Stop Them Jah."

With Gregor Huebner (violin, electronics) and Veit Huebner (bass, electronics), a vibrant musical dialogue unfolds between two brothers. Using loop stations and live effects, the acclaimed jazz musicians create layered, almost orchestral soundscapes—both transparent and powerful, energetic yet deeply poetic. Their music thrives in the moment: lines are looped, transformed, and reshaped into virtuosic improvisations. Jazz blends with classical influences, grooves meet sonic experimentation, and delicate chamber-like passages erupt into dynamic outbursts. Original compositions, jazz standards, and newly interpreted classical works sound intimate yet powerful in the duo format. Known as two-thirds of the trio Berta Epple, the Huebner brothers now present themselves for the first time as a pure duo. The result is a distilled artistic essence of more than four decades of shared and individual stage experience, with electronics serving not as an effect but as a third musical voice.

In our process to research and find out as much about Boston reggae and the artists who created it for our Take Us Home compilation we met a musician named Abdul Baki. Abdul was one of the founding members of the group the I Tones as well as many other Boston roots reggae groups over the years. One day while we were chatting at his place I almost tripped over a box in his garage and it turned out it was a box of the I Tones first single "Love Is A Pleasure." So we are able to offer you up a rare piece of Boston roots reggae history - original copies of I Tones "Love Is A Pleasure" 45. The first I-Tones recording featuring the original line up of Abdul Baki, Chris Wilson, Luke "Ram" Ehrlich, and Horace Reid reflects their combined reggae scholarship on the 45, “Love is a Pleasure.” “Freddie McKay had recorded a song called ‘Love is a Treasure’ twice,” explains Ram, “once for Treasure Isle and once for Studio One. We sort of combined the two versions and then added elements of ‘Melody of Life’ by Marcia Griffiths and Love is a Message’ by Jacob Miller.” The flipside was a dub of the tune, reflecting the group’s true musical calling card. “Dub expands time,” observes Baki. “It doesn’t fill in the time and space with sound, like jazz. Ram understood how to use that space in between sound. When you echo out, it creates a rhythm pattern that is very complex. We didn’t need to fill up every space. We valued that space.” “Chris and myself combined on the upbeat of the songs of the music,” continues Baki. “We played at exactly the same time, so our notes were blending … I played my piano as a drum and Chris played his guitar as a scraper, and we blended on the upbeat to sound like a banjo, a throwback to Jamaican Mento.” Wilson recalls recording in a Jamaica Plain studio whose staff had no prior experience with reggae.”It was a bit of a struggle, and that made me get a four-track recorder,” says Wilson, who also proudly notes that the band’s echo machine was the same one used by Jamaican dub visionary Lee “Scratch” Perry. This original pressing is available in limited quantities exclusively Cargo in the UK.

‘The Bridge’ is Indubious’s debut album on Easy Star Records, but it is the culmination of nearly a decade of hard work and growth from the Oregon-based trio, led by the brothers Spencer and Evan Burton.
Their previous release, ‘Beleaf’, debuted at number one on Billboard’s Reggae Chart in 2019. ‘The Bridge’ combines their own contemporary take on reggae with more overt references to classic dancehall and new age spiritualism and features high profile guest appearances from Jamaican legends Sizzla, Capleton, and Anthony B, along with Mike Love, Jah9, Zion I, Skillinjah, Alcyon Massive, Ze-Ion, and the jam band Wookiefoot.
The album has extra poignancy with the song “I Can Breathe,” which was written following a double lung transplant for Evan; both of the Burton brothers were born with Cystic Fibrosis and were not expected to live past their teens, but have instead turned that around and established themselves as one of the new rising stars of the US reggae scene.

One of the best reggae albums of the ‘80s and one of the real highlights in the Real Authentic Sound label catalog finally gets an LP reissue! Lascelle “Wiss” Bulgin, Albert “Apple Gabriel” Craig, and Cecil “Skelly” Spence all contracted childhood polio, and met at a Jamaican rehab center; in the ‘70s, they formed Israel Vibration and their first record, The Same Song, released in 1978 on the Top Ranking label, was an international smash. But by the time they released Strength of My Life in 1988, it had been seven years since they had made a record, having fled Jamaica in the intervening years to seek better health care and to escape the dancehall scene. Against all odds, Strength of My Life turned out to be a triumph, the beginning of the group’s partnership with the Roots Radics and a reaffirmation of the love the group’s members had for each other and a celebration, as the title goes, of the strength of their lives (we defy you not to be moved by the title track). That’s Augustus Pablo on melodica on “Greedy Dog” and Dwight Pinkney on guitar on “Jah Love Me,” by the way. Roots reggae royalty!
