With a career spanning over 50 years, Linval Thompson is one of the last living legends of Jamaican reggae. Singer and producer on the famous Thompson Sound label, he has crossed the decades, leaving his indelible mark on roots reggae with numerous hits such as "I Love Marijuana", "Jah Jah The Conqueror" and "Don't Cut Off Your Dreadlocks", as well as albums and singles he has produced with the biggest names in the game, including Barrington Levy, Eek A Mouse, Johnny Osbourne, Freddie McGregor, Horace Andy and Freddie McKay...

His discretion and humility, despite owning one of the biggest reggae catalogs in the world, make him a cornerstone of the music.

After many years of collaboration on stage and in the studio, Linval Thompson and French label Irie Ites Records have joined forces to produce this new album entitled "Ganja Man". Comprising 10 tracks and 5 dub versions, this opus showcases Linval's unmistakable voice, recognizable from the very first notes. The album's themes revolve around current social issues, in which the artist encourages us to surpass ourselves on a daily basis and to fight against the corruption of the most powerful. He also highlights the plant he loves so much on "Ganja man", the album's eponymous track. Lyrics that will speak to the greatest number of people!

Burning Sounds
26.08.2022

Born John McMorris in Kingston, Jamaica in 1970 his nickname originally described this young man to a tee but, as time passed,
his stature in the reggae music business continued to grow, Little John became more akin to his Sherwood Forest namesake.
Little John first burst on to the Jamaican music scene in 1979 as a precocious nine year old on an un-credited combination with Captain Sinbad on ‘51 Storm’ for Sugar Minott’s Black Roots label .
His ‘Unite’ album is a reminder of the continuing relevance of the dancehall style.

Rough, raw and rugged they represent the real authentic sound of young Jamaica from nearly forty years ago when the youths “forgot their troubles and danced”.

LLOYD & GLEN - THAT GIRL / YOU GOT ME GOING

This essential double sider was first released in 1967 on Crystal Records,

the Jamaican record label owned by the famed producer Derrick Harriott.

Derrick produced both of these great songs.

The single was also released on the Coxsone label in the U.K. the same year.

This single has never been repressed since. It is impossible to find in listenable condition and is very much in demand.

The A side That Girl” is an instant Reggay scorcher with a cracking rhythm and fun lyrics. As ever with Lloyd & Glen,

it showcases outstanding vocals from the duo along with a spotless production from Derrick Harriott.

On the B side, a gorgeous love song from Lloyd & Glen. Poignant vocals from the duo are perfectly

complemented by a big horns section. It is in fact as good as the A side.

By the close of the 1960's, Lloyd 'Charmers' Tyrell was firmly established as one of Jamaica's premier talents, having previously made his mark as a key member of leading vocal outfits, The Charmers and The Uniques. His move into record production in 1968 swiftly resulted in numerous Jamaican hits, with his success attracting the attention London-based reggae music giant, Trojan Records, with whom he swiftly signed a licensing deal in 1969. As the '60s drew to a close, Trojan released 'Reggae Is Tight', on which the multi-talented Charmers demonstrated his keyboard-playing talents over a dozen fast-passed rhythm tracks. This is from the golden age of boss reggae sounds. A must for all true fans of vintage Jamaican sounds. Lloyd Charmers & Byron Lee & the Dragonaires - Reggae Charm

Reggae Charmers is the 1970 album by Lloyd Charmers, born Lloyd Tyrell. His career spans some of the most fertile periods of Jamaica's musical history. From the late-'50s era of Jamaican shuffle R&B and the subsequent ska boom, to the rocksteady and roots reggae of the late '60s and early '70s, Charmers made valuable contributions not only as a vocalist, but as a session musician and producer, as well. Charmers took up the piano in 1966. A few years later, he was an accomplished enough player to form a band of his own with a few friends. The band eventually backed Ken Parker, Max Romeo, Pat Kelly, John Holt, and Slim Smith & the Uniques (Charmers would also spend some time singing for the Uniques). Buoyed by their reputation for laying down some of the rawest and driving rhythms of the time. Charmers is joined by Byron Lee and the Dragonaires on this record, that is a must for all true fans of vintage Jamaican sounds. Reggae Charmers is available as a limited edition of 750 individually numbered copies on orange colored vinyl.

Local Natives / Overcoats - When Am I Gonna Lose You (Overcoats Version) / When Am I Gonna Lose You (Local Natives Version)

"An amazing dub infused reimagination by buzzy Brooklyn duo Overcoats, of the Local Natives hit single When Am I Gonna Lose You. This version of When Am I Gonna Lose You has never been released physically
Local Natives have released a new version of “When Am I Gonna Lose You” back in December, with the touches of Brooklyn duo Overcoats. The original single is off of Local Natives’ latest album, Violet Street. “We loved singing this song and the more we sat with the lyrics and layered the harmonies, the more powerful the words became for us. It’s a beautiful song and we were really excited to be part of a reimagined version. “It’s hard to have perspective on songs you’ve spent so long with and are so close to, so having an amazing group like Overcoats reimagine one feels like a gift. We’re honoured that they created their own version of When Am I Gonna Lose You, they did a great job, especially with their beautiful vocals.”"

Punk Artist Mal-One’s new single Punk Badge celebrates the forgotten but much-loved culture of the button badge. Especially the Punk Badge that just in wearing the item was a statement in itself. It told you more about the person than 1000 words could ever do. Their affiliations likes, even their dislikes, for the pricey some of 25p!!!

To tell this story Mal-One has created 6 one off 18’’ inch badges and has used them to create the 7’’ sleeve artwork. There are 100 of each design. So be a good Punk and collect the set…

All football teams for some reason or other adopt a song and make it their own. In many ways to sing along to or chant over, as their team roll out onto the football pitch. Mal-one a big fan of the instrumental track, likes the way they can set and capture the mood. He has adapted one of his tunes ‘Rude Boy Shuffle’ to help push up West London’s finest team ‘Queens Park Rangers’. In true reggae style he has added the version dub excursion to its B-Side, for further
enhancement. We hope this reggae inspired ditty hits the mark and hopefully the back of the net.

Manu Dibango - Gone Clear

Gone Clear, is the quintessence of reggae and groove, as only Manu Dibango can conceive them. After a stay in Nigeria and a great tour with the Ivorian Radio-Television Orchestra, the Cameroonian saxophonist landed for the first time in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1976. Just a few steps away from Bob Marley's home (taking the time to greet him every day on his way to the studio to say “hello”!).

It was with the cream of the crop of musicians at that time (Robbie Shakespeare and Sly Dunbar, Randy and Michael Brecker, Lou Marini...) and in the legendary Dynamic Sounds Studios that he shaped this 100% roots album. With a slightly relaxed and positive atmosphere, far from the usual militant style lyrics, Manu's reggae invites you to "chill out", and is supported by a highly effective backing choir. Like most of his albums, Manu's reggae is also very mixed, blending African, Jamaican and American inspiration with danceable funk on tracks such as Goro City and Happy Feeling. The cherry on the cake is his hit "Soul Makossa" - sampled without permission by Michael Jackson and Rihanna a few years later – and arranged in a Caribbean sauce in a slower version, renamed "Reggae Makossa."

If there's one thing we can truly salute here, it is that Manu Dibango can compose reggae with respect for tradition while adding his own personal touch. We can see this touch later in the album Cubafrica, where Manu was able to surround himself with the best Cuban musicians (the Quarteto Patria), to deliver a very high-quality Afro-Cuban album, adding a new gem to his fabulous discography.

Armed with his bass, MPC and synthesiser, Manudigital surrounded himself with no less than 17 hand-picked artists to make his productions their own. « (…) I was already working on my upcoming album and I thought I would keep this small Reggae loop to take it to another style, fully electronic which has given my new album’s DNA » - Manudigital about the track « Step Up » The album opens with the eponymous explosive track « Step Up » featuring veteran Jamaican deejay Joseph Cotton and British Drum & Bass MC Bellyman, author of the successful YouTube video series « Carz Barz ». Among the artists of the British underground musical scene, Reggae/Soul genius Liam Bailey has been invited on the Pop-infused Digital Reggae track « Enough » which will delight the lovers of soulful Reggae. Manudigital also reminds us Reggae has always be his first love and, after having produced Alborosie and Protoje’s hit « Strolling » a few years ago, he proposed the Sicilian MC to collaborate with Jamaican artist Yami Bolo on the track « Reggae Music and Love ». A big tune built upon a classic digital riddim in the Jamaican way, a catchy chorus carried by the high voice of Yami Bolo and the legendary flow of Alborosie of the verses. Cult band Asian Dub Foundation’s singer Ghetto Priest takes also part of the project with « Rasta Corner », MC Caporal Negus joins Manudigital on « Dub and Bass » and on tour, and Jolly Joseph sings on « The world is Hell » for the Reggae Dub tracks of the album. In terms of surprises, Manudigital takes pleasure in inviting benchmark artists in each musical genres, walking through Lo Fi Hip-Hop’s path with the Dancehall President aka Skarra Mucci on « Fi Di Youths », Baile Funk with Punjabi-American rapper Alo Wala and their song « Love on Tap » or even Afrobeat with Dynamq for the last song « Piki Piki ». Finally, whereas Manudigital will soon celebrate his career 10th anniversary and as his name resonates in sound systems from all over the world, we appreciate each risk taken and each nod to Reggae Culture, wondering what his next shape will be. Influenced by US Soul and the early Reggae and Rocksteady sounds from Jamaica, aDUBta, a producer and musician from Bavaria, Germany, linked up with Marcus I, a Southern France notable songwriter and singer in the Roots-Reggae scene, to create a collection of work inspired by the Studio One sounds of the 1960s. Marcus Upbeat - She’s So Sweet / Free The Spirit

Marcus Upbeat releases infectious single bristling with reggae rhythms
Previously worked with Lee Scratch Perry and toured with Roxy Music.
Released on The Blue Beat Label.
Since recording albums with Lee Scratch Perry and The Upsetters, reggae artist Marcus
Upbeat releases his infectious new single ‘She’s So Sweet’ on The Blue Beat Label.
From Jamaica to the UK, the sounds of vintage ska music reverberate through the grooves of
Marcus Upbeat's ‘She’s So Sweet’. Bristling with fresh reggae rhythms, the track is a light
and breezy number, utilising a simple melody to capture the sound of the summer.
Drawing inspiration from some of the biggest names in the industry, Marcus found musical
success through his former band No.1 Station. Recording three albums and performing
extensively on the UK festival circuit, the collective also supported Roxy Music on their UK
Arena tour.
Released on the critically acclaimed Blue Beat Label, Marcus is largely responsible for the
labels revival after it closed in 1967. Teaming up with previous owner Siggy Jackson, the
label was relaunched by the duo in 2004. Commenting on the relaunch, Marcus explains: “I
wanted to return to the roots of the music and release records in the more traditional styles
of classic Jamaican ska, rocksteady, and early reggae, and to revive the name 'Blue Beat' as
the generic umbrella term to describe my new music".
With the release of his brand-new single and effortless ability to curate feel-good anthems
enthused with powerful reggae rhythms, July 2019 is set to be the beginning of a huge year
