Pop & Rock Vinyl New Releases - News

Recorded both at the Black Ark and a studio in Holland in 1980 while Perry was allegedly gobbling acid by the handful. The last album to feature the sound of the Black Ark, 'Return ..' is a truly spacy, meandering, borderline incoherent, but frequently amazing recording. As if Perry needed chemical stimulation to be far out, this record is a stunning glimpse of how far he was planning to push the production envelope. Must be heard to be believed

In a 1965 interview with LIFE, Frank Sinatra said: "For my money, Tony Bennett is the best singer in the business. He excites me when I watch him. He moves me. He's the singer who gets across what the composer has in mind, and probably a little more." And for the past sixty-odd years, Tony has been doing exactly that. With 15 Grammy Awards and a multitude of Gold and Platinum status recordings under his arm, this man sure knows how to work those pipes. Duets II is another collection of American Songbook standards performed in the best of ways. Duets II includes collaborations with the best voices of music: Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole, Norah Jones and k.d. lang grace the recording booth with this legendary singer. But it is the tragic and premature passing of Amy Winehouse that makes this album truly special; her appearance on the duet 'Body And Soul' is the last known recording of the British songbird, and it is a truly heartrending version of the 1930 jazz classic. If this isn't Grammy material, we don't know what is!

The overall work comprises four parts. In 'The Birth', he combines varied musical styles to create an exceptional musical journey through numerous world cultures.Invigorating jazzy sounds, hypnotic tango electrónico and funky grooves encounter energising ethnorhythms. Mystic tones, seemingly from other worlds, flow together into an artistic theatre of emotions that revitalises the listener's soul. And this is precisely what makes this different from everything that has gone before.Because 'Klangmeister' knows about the enormous effects of the musical vibrations on the listener, and deliberately applies this knowledge in 'The Birth'.

For their Summer Of Seven tracks Iso68 have, as usual, recorded many live instruments. We hear drums, guitar, keys, and brass, mixed into two tight tracks which unfold their addiction not at first glance. But after several plays the two pieces by Florian Zimmer (who also plays with the bands Saroos and Jersey) and Thomas Leboeg (member of Hamburgs Popband Kante) become essential beauties.

Robert Mitchell should really need no introduction, an award winning pianist, composer, arranger and teacher, since his recording debut a decade ago he has been one of the most powerful, creative presences on the British jazz scene. A deft, inventive pianist with a unique style of improvisation that finds him riffing on lateral motifs rather than following classic bop influenced lines, Mitchell has been compared to the likes of Craig Taborn and Andrew Hill. Jealousy is the first of the 3 solo albums by Tony Allen produced by Fela Kuti. In 1975 Tony Allen, the band-leader of Afrika 70, got an opportunity to rehearse his compositions together with rest of the Afrika 70. This ended up in his first record which was initially released on the private imprint Soundworkshop Records. Jealousy is according to many still the highlight of his 4 solo-albums featuring 2 afro-beat gems 'Jealousy' and 'Hustler'. Part of the Tony Allen reissue series on Kindred Spirits, featuring remastered versions and original restored artwork. A must for afro-beat fans around the globe.
