Pop & Rock Vinyl New Releases - News

Without vocals, Empress Rising suddenly becomes a post-metal, stoner epic in the vein of Sleep's Dopesmoker and Monster Magnet's 30-minute opus 'Tab.' Arguably Monolord's most atmospheric work, the instrumental treatment gives the album a new life and listening experience." -- Consequence of Sound

The sleeves are printed on premium chrome jackets limited to 1000 copies each album. Begun as a digital-only release for Empress Rising - instrumental, the response was so overwhelming the band and RidingEasy Records decided to release both revised albums on vinyl as well.

Monolord formed in 2013, quickly recording their 2xLP debut Empress Rising, which RidingEasy Records released on April 1st, 2014. The second album, Vænir, followed April 28th, 2015. The band's third album, Rust, released September 29th, 2017, was a critical and commercial breakthrough. It would be the band's last for RidingEasy, though the band remain managed by label head Daniel Hall, elevating them to the Relapse Records roster for their 2019 full length No Comfort.

Limited edition vinyl pressings of the instrumental mixes of Vænir and the band's debut Empress Rising are also available today. These are mailorder-only, with sleeves printed on premium chrome jackets limited to 1000 copies each album. Begun as a digital-only release for Empress Rising - instrumental, the response was so overwhelming the band and RidingEasy Records decided to release both revised albums on vinyl as well.
About the release, Esben Willems, Monolord drummer and recording & mixing engineer for the original album and this version, says, "Listening to the mixes for the instrumental version of Vænir opened an unexpected door. We seriously didn't expect that the album would take such a different shape and feel in an instrumental version. Really stoked to see how our fans will experience this release. Also, getting both instrumental versions (Vænir & Empress Rising) released on LP adds another layer. Hope you like it."

GROUNDSWELLS’ is the third chapter in Wren’s seasonal lore exploration, and their first through Gizeh Records. These six melancholy-shrouded sonic ruminations swell between intimate performances devoid of adornment, and evolving soundscapes of auditory ruin. Tracing an elemental arch, 'GROUNDSWELLS' captures Wren delving into earthen awakenings.

Launching into a monochromatic dirge, ‘Chromed’ announces the LPs stylistic intentions, forgoing the trappings of traditional harmony with deliberate pendulums of pitch and tone. Swarms of percussion drag the track to its conclusion in a collage of insidious feedback, with oscillations sculpted by the record’s producer, Scott Evans of Kowloon Walled City.

Elsewhere, swift variance is displayed in Wrens’ deft handling of genre and form, refusing to be solely one of either. The record courses between rigid post-punk, broad waves of dreaded sludge, and austere choral reverberations. Pulsating Krautrock themes present in their previous work are revisited, with a focus on embracing archetypal motorik technique, as the LP stretches compositions to their furthest tensions through profuse repetition, straining the cracks between.

Inviting physical, elemental surrounds into ‘Subterranean Messiah’, Wren allow space for the sudden cloudburst of Middle Farm Studios in the introductory passage via location recording, embracing the interplay between source and locality. Combined with the painterly fretwork and ghostly chants of Fvnerals, the collaboration seeks an emotive new path of melodic vulnerability. In contrast, the closing elegy is layered with disharmonious cycles of agonised cello from Jo Quail. As with other conclusions on the LP, the track's commitment to strained repetition is rewarded with sonic climaxes of blackened psychedelia, led by stalagmitic spirals of atonalism.

Throughout the LP, Wren draws from their long-standing apologue, with a partnership of vocalists showcasing a lyrical and vocal interplay thick with a dense lore new to their compositions. 'GROUNDSWELLS' brings Wren to an equinox in their earthly contemplations. Ruminating on the decaying inanition that engenders renewal, this record is a revelry in the cyclical, repetitious infinity of planetary permanence.

Time comes in cycles sometimes what we thought we left behind suddenly catches up with us and changes the 'Plan'. Amebix vowed never to play again after the sad ending of the band in 1987, out of steam and with little support we simply drifted apart. It wasn't until the advent of the internet that it became apparent that we had left a wake in our passing, which had in turn passed the torch on to those who would follow. There was some satisfaction in that, and also some niggling feeling that we had never really had our 'day in the sun', but as I say, time comes in cycles.Stig, Roy & I all got together for the first time in 2008, I had not picked up a bass guitar for 22 years , whilst Stig had kept his hand in with his own projects , and Roy Mayorga has barely left a drum stool since his early days in Nausea, but it was the first time that we had all met , let alone played together. The brief was to try and re -visit three songs, to see what there was left of the music that had driven us so hard when we were just kids. If it didn't work, we would all have tried anyway and had a good experience along with it. But it did work, the first track we recorded was WINTER, the first take was the one we kept, and that is ultimately the version you hear. We all stood around a bit stunned, this is easy ..lets crack into Arise!...........nailed ! As the tracks came together, we realised that a door was opening, and that we had a choice, to walk along this road again or hang up the strap for good. Personally I am glad that we walked on, 2009 was a great year , a time of celebration and re-birth, and a vindication of the body of work that we had spent ten years on, which found a home within the souls of so many good people .NGNM. Picking up where the band left off with their critically acclaimed ‘Love in Shadow’, the trio of Aaron Turner (ISIS, Old Man Gloom), Brian Cook (Russian Circles) and Nick Yacyshyn (Baptists) push further into the polarity of their sound with longform composition and freeform exploration.

Meticulously detailed and complex one moment, rudimentary and repetitive the next and completely untethered and unscripted at seemingly random, ‘May You Be Held’ is an album that fluctuates between extreme discipline and control and an almost feral energy. “As an artist in this time of significant upheaval, society seemingly having reached the end of its current iteration, it’s of critical importance to absorb and interpret this process of dissolution - and of the transformation that hopefully follows it” says Turner, “While I don’t believe we’re on the brink of collective destruction precisely now, this is clearly a pivotal stage in the story of humankind - and there is something that feels right about this music at this exact and
very uncertain moment.”

Einfach Garmarna!

This legendary doom classic is pressed on three sides of vinyl for extra heavy fidelity and crushing sound, with bonus tracks on 4th side. Sweden has long been held in high regard as one of the hotbeds of global death metal. With their third full-length, Stockholm’s Lik only add fuel to this fire. “The title of the record is Misanthropic Breed, because it describes the world today and the generations that are emerging,” states vocalist/guitarist Tomas Åkvik. “In a way it's more applicable than ever with the quote ‘It's every man for himself’ being so suitable, and it’s also a ‘hidden’ homage to both Dismember and Entombed.” “The feeling of Misanthropic Breed is that it goes from sometimes very melodic stuff to very dark and eerie landscapes. We still have the ‘Iron Maiden’ feeling but I think it’s a lot darker at times. Sound-wise it’s more brutal but still very clear and you can hear what’s going on almost all the time, and the songs have a more mature feeling and are more straightforward.”

Blue Öyster Cult’s eighth album Fire of Unknown Origin includes their Top 40 hit “Burnin’ for You” (#1 on Billboard’s Album Rock Tracks chart). They brought back their successful writers team, including musician Patti Smith and dark-fantasy writer Michael Moorcock. “Veteran of Psychic Wars” can be placed among Cult’s best work, both in length as consistency. It would be the final studio album with the band’s original line-up for seven years. In many ways, Fire of Unknown Origin was the end of an era for the band, as they would struggle to find solid footing with critics and radio over the next several years. But this remains a incredible piece from the golden era.

Available as a limited edition of 2000 individually numbered copies on turquoise vinyl. The package includes an insert.

The light to the dark of Ihsahn's two EP's this year, 'Pharos' showcases his lighter, more progressive rock capabilities, countering his first EP 'Telemark' which stuck to his Black Metal roots. 'Pharos' features 3 new original songs and two covers of A-Ha's 'Manhattan Skyline' and Portishead's 'Roads'. This is Ihsahn exploring further than he's ever dared before. On their horrific debut 2xLP "Typhomanteia: Sacred Triarchy of Spiritual Putrefaction", Venezuelan blackened raw death-doom abomination Cthonica summon a slithering scourge of pestilent and blood-curdling extreme metal barbarism rarely before fathomed at a state this inhuman, repulsive, and horrific. Converging somewhere in the middle between the agonizing and pummeling doomed death metal of early Incantation and Immolation and the twisted and serpentine blackened chaos of bands like Beherit, Blasphemy, and Portal, Cthonica have then crawled beyond their influences and any threshold of familiarity by adding layers of decaying noise and sepulchral dark ambient to their abhorrent extreme metal creation, as well as subduing to deranged religious and occult philosophical notions to transcend into the quintessence embodiment of all ritualistic aural abominations.

Multinational industrial atmospheric black metal entity Decoherence return with their mind-altering sophomore LP "Unitarity", once again exploring through sound realms of the incomprehensible that lie far beyond human existence and understanding, in remote and alien corners of the cosmos were unimaginable cataclysms, and creation/destruction events of harrowing apocalyptic proportions dominate an immense lifeless void where light is cyclically and eternally torn and devoured. Figuratively placed at the center of this alien and incomprehensible plane of existence lies the music of Decoherence, an hallucinogenic architectural distortion of shapeshifting dark matter in which cold industrial tapestries, surreal and alien atmospheres and walls of mangled guitars and oppressive electronics design the erratic and twisting trajectories of the universe's most hidden and ungraspable abominations.

Martin Khanja (aka Lord Spike Heart) and Sam Karugu emerge from Nairobi's flourishing underground metal scene as former members of the bands Lust of a Dying Breed and Seeds of Datura. Together in 2019 they formed Duma (Darkness in Kikuyu) with Sam abandoning bass for production and guitars and Lord Spike Heart providing extreme vocals to the project. Recorded at Nyege Nyege Studios in Kampala over three months in mid 2019 their self-titled debut album fuses the frenetic euphoria, unrelenting physicality and rebellious attitude of hardcore punk and trash metal with bone-crunching breakcore and raw, nihilist industrial noise through a claustrophobic vortex of visceral screams. The savant mix of brutally adrenalized drums, caustic industrial trap, shredding grindcore inspired guitars and abrupt speed changes create a darkly atmospheric menace and is lethal on tracks like the opener "Angels and Abysses" , "Omni" or "Uganda with Sam". The gruelling slow techno dirges and monolithic vocals on "Pembe 666" or "Sin Nature" add a pinch of dramatic inevitability bringing a new sense of theatricality and terrifying fate awaiting into the record's progression. A sinister sonic aggression of feral intensity with disregard for styles, Duma promises to impact the burgeoning African metal scene moving it into totally new, boundary-challenging experimental territories.

Black Sabbath are arguably the most influential heavy metal band of all time. The band helped to create the genre with ground breaking releases such as Paranoid, an album that Rolling Stone magazine said “changed music forever”, and called the band “the Beatles of heavy metal”. Time Magazine called Paranoid “the birthplace of heavy metal”.

The band, who have been performing for over 45 years, have to date sold over 75 million records which includes over 24 platinum albums in the UK alone and over 15 million records in the United States. Black Sabbath were inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.

Black Sabbath were formed in Birmingham in 1968 by Ozzy Osbourne (lead vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass), and Bill Ward (drums and percussion). Originally formed as a heavy blues-rock band named Earth, the band began incorporating occult and horror-inspired lyrics with tuned-down guitars, changing their name to Black Sabbath and releasing multiple gold and platinum records in the 1970s.

The Ultimate Collection is curated in conjunction with the band, the 31-track collection features the band’s classic songs including Paranoid, Iron Man, War Pigs, N.I.B. and The Wizard as well as choice cuts from their classic albums and is the definitive accompaniment for all Sabbath fans as well as those with a love of hard rock.

Remastered by renowned engineer Andy Pearce (Motörhead, Deep Purple, Lou Reed, Iggy & The Stooges), the Ultimate Collection is available in multiple formats. Alongside the black disc 2-CD and digital/HD formats there’s also a gold vinyl “Crucifold” edition,a heavyweight 4 LP gold vinyl version produced in the shape of the cross.

Wiseblood is one of the most well-known Corrosion of Conformity albums. Their 5th full length release, peaked at #104 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart in the US in 1996. The history of Corrosion of Conformity in modern heavy music is highly significant, not least due to Pepper Keenan’s formation of Down along with Pantera’s Philip Anselmo, leaders of the New Orleans NOLA scene. A totally authentic heavy band and movement, COC naturally progressed from their thrashy, underground days to pushing the boundaries of what was classed as heavy music. Decibel Magazine refer to COC as ‘a crucial stylistic lynchpin in the bridge between metal and punk’ that ‘irrevocably re-shaped crossover’s sonic possibilities.’ Metallica’s James Hetfield makes a guest appearance on this album, providing backup vocals on “Man Or Ash”.

Available as a limited edition of 1000 individually numbered copies on translucent blue & red marbled vinyl.

Eventually there comes a time when the hype about a band becomes superfluous, and their status alone speaks volumes. Such is the case with Emperor, the black metal gods hailing from Telemark, Norway. Re-mastered by Turan Audio with full guidance from the band, with new and restored artwork by “Dan Capp” Design and illustration to create beautiful re issues.

Ensiferum are a true powerhouse when it comes to folk-inspired melodic death metal, something they hammer home more resolutely than ever with eighth full-length Thalassic. The title translating from ancient Greek as "of or relating to seas", it's a suitably huge and wide-ranging collection that incorporates orchestrations and traditional folk instrumentation alongside the roaring guitars, bass, and drums. Thalassic was recorded and produced in Petrax and Sonic Pump studios by Janne Joutsenniemi, who was involved on their albums Victory Songs (2007) and From Afar (2009). Gyula Havanchak handled the artwork and once again raised the Ensiferum standard, creating something that vividly reflects the songs, and indeed the theme running through them. To add the final touches to the Finns latest work, Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios (Opeth, Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy) handled mixing and mastering duties.

The eight damaging new movements on XIBALBA’s Años En Infierno culminate into the band’s most brutalizing material to date, with more death metal energy than ever fueling the album, with their trademarks breakdown savagery fully on display in every track.

The LP was produced by Arthur Rizk (Cro-Mags Power Trip, Inquisition) and completed with artwork by longtime collaborator Dan Seagrave (Dismember, Entombed, Suffocation).

For the past thirteen years, Xibalba has been dedicated to carving a sound which combines unadulterated aggression booming out of the vocals, an ultra-heavy low-end frequency, colossal death metal riffs, brutal hardcore breakdowns, and a trademark groove now synonymous with the group.

Showing no mercy and keeping their cultural message intact with their fourth full-length, Años En Infierno takes these conventions and finds a new way of expression that the band defines as, “more harsh, brutal, and creative in a metaphorical sense.''

METAL HAMMER - 8/10 review (October issue) "A genuine album of the year contender...Okkultokrati have blown all notions of what Scando-punk is clear across the Barents Sea. The caustic Hidden Future harks back to their roots, yet its the rousing Ocular Violence - which wouldn't sound out of place on Killing Joke's Brigher Than A Thousand Suns - that proves the real highlight in a LP full of them. Stunning."

ZERO TOLERANCE - 4.5/6 review (Nov/Dec issue) "Like Venom meeting Warfare...Equally rocking and experimental - a rather brilliant balance to strike."

‘Okkultokrati has always been more than being a band, making music, touring and making music. Striving to be something beyond the mundane and trivial. It's an attitude. In defiance. To everyone and everything. To not chase after trends. To seek truth in music wherever it takes you. To be an outsider and an outlaw, even though it makes you a freak. La Ilden Lyse is music for the misguided, the conspiratorial, the unappreciated and unwanted. It's black outlaw metal. It's a beacon in the dark, for desperate times.’ - Dionysiac

La Ilden Lyse is an album of pure, cold, grim rawness. Themes of enduring life, transcending death, worshipping the moon, and triumphant, satanic darkness are all at play here, and the album sounds harder, faster, and more nasty than ever.

No more messing around. Keep it black, keep it metal, all the time.

Mike Redman's Deformer project has achieved cult status throughout the years. Known for its extreme, horror infused electronic music and surprising collaborations with groundbreaking musicians, visual artists and film studios, Deformer keeps reinventing its sound while keeping its signature aesthetics. Consistent in being outrageous... with the new record "Inner-Outcast" musical boundaries are being crushed, again with a little help from some heavyweight invitees. On four of six tracks Deformer's fierce breakbeats enter into a deadly duel with the live drums of legendary ex-Suffocation drummer and blastbeat pioneer Mike Smith. Vernon Reid of Living Colour lays down some menacing guitar solos, Body Count's Ice-T provides some threatening words and many more legends are making "Inner-Outcast" an original, intense and above all, an unpolished release. LORNA SHORE’s new album, “Immortal”, is nothing short of a shock of blackened, symphonic ambitions and epic intents. It is a milestone for LORNA SHORE, who have built a sizable reputation touring the world alongside the likes of The Black Dahlia Murder, Carnifex and Chelsea Grin. Formed in 2010, LORNA SHORE were quick to surpass “local band” expectations with 2012’s “Bone Kingdom”-EP and it’s follow-up, 2013’s “Malificium”-EP. Through each release, LORNA SHORE continues to prove themselves to be an increasingly formidable force and a ferocious live proposition. 2017’s sophomore LP, “Flesh Coffin” showed a band that had moved beyond mere “deathcore” trappings and had evolved into a modern metal band, as uncompromising and accomplished as any of their contemporaries or influences. “We became the band we wanted to be, rather than just the product of our early influences,” says guitarist Adam De Micco. “’Immortal’ is the latest chapter of that story of us as a band, as players and as people.” Armed with new vocalist C.J. McCreery (ex-Signs of the Swarm), LORNA SHORE has made a record that stands apart from their earlier works. The earliest hints of that have come with the release of album tracks, “This Is Hell” and “Darkest Spawn”, twin deathly salvos released from LORNA SHORE’s early album sessions with producer Josh Schroeder (Battlecross, King 810, For Today) at Random Awesome Studios in Midland, MI. Recording for the album. “Immortal” is the beginning of another chapter for LORNA SHORE and is available in the following formats: CD Jewelcase, LP+CD, Digital Album

In 2013 Finland’s OranssiPazuzu issued their "Valonielu" LP, an album of timeless creative immensity that was met with ubiquitous praise throughout the world, and solidified the band’s position as one of the most forward-thinking and interesting metal bands.

Now OranssiPazuzu returns with the follow-up album & fourth overall, the mind-bending masterwork "Värähtelijä". OranssiPazuzu, since birth, has never been satisfied to stick with a formula. Each album has seen the band expand upon it's previous incarnation and then, like a supernova, blow it up & transform again into sth. recognizable but completely new.

"Värähtelijä" continues in this vein, giving the band much more room to diverge and explore the vast regions of hypnotic progressive psychedelia & the nebulous outer limits of Scandinavian black metal.

Songs explode with radiant ultraviolet color and plunge into the deep black darkness of innermost consciousness. If ‘Valonielu’ was the creation of a universe, ‘Värähtelijä’ is the magnification & expansion of it's infinite boundaries.

Not meant for genre purists, OranssiPazuzu are on a trip all their own; modern electric pioneers on an expedition to unlock the keys to the hidden spaces all around and inside us.
