A Date With Elvis is Elvis Presley’s eighth album originally released in July 1959. It is a compilation of previously unreleased material from an August 1956 recording session at 20th Century Fox Stage One, two sessions from Radio Recorders in Hollywood, and multiple sessions at Sun Studio.

A Date With Elvis’ 60th anniversary edition of 2000 individually numbered copies is available on transparent blue vinyl.

So entrenched was the public perception of Elvis as a hell-raiser,
that the announcement he was making a record of Christmas
songs sent the world into a tailspin. Released in 1957 Elvis’
Christmas Album, showed that Elvis had created a template for all
future Christmas recordings: no rock star had ever undertaken
such a project and it was Elvis who paved the way. Enjoy this

King Creole was the fourth of Elvis Presley’s Hollywood movies, released in June
1958. Loosely based on Harold Robbins’ novel A Stone For Danny Fisher, about a
struggling young Boxer. Producer Hal Wallis decided it would make a perfect vehicle
for Elvis Presley, and so the lead character became a Singer instead of a Boxer, and
the whole project was promptly transformed into a musical. It’s one of the best of the
Presley soundtracks opening with the title track King Creole penned by Leiber &
Stoller, followed by R&B number Crawfish, and the contrasting Rock'n'Roll track
Dixieland Rock which is reminiscent of Jailhouse Rock. Sadly, it was to be the last
truly dramatic role Elvis was ever given, and Presley himself would always cite King
Creole as his personal favourite out of all the films he made.

The story of Elvis Presley’s ‘discovery’ has passed into showbiz legend and his recordings at Sun Studios have gone down in history. Between 1953 and 1954 That’s When Your Heartaches Begin, That’s All Right, Blue Moon Of Kentucky and Milkcow Blues Boogie were cut. By chance, two covers stood out; Arthur Crudup’s That’s All Right and Bill Monroe’s Blue Moon Of Kentucky which were adapted into high-energy mixes of Blues, Country and Rockabilly. Reaction in the Memphis area was enthusiastic and the Band continued to perform their weekly slot on the Louisiana Hayride Radio Show and bonus tracks from the Hayride Radio Show have been included on this LP. Elvis was the first and greatest star of the Rock ‘n’ Roll era and his early recordings will always retain their appeal.
