Paul Zaza - My Bloody Valentine LP 2x12"

Waxwork Records is proud to announce the new double LP soundtrack release of MY BLOODY VALENTINE (1981). Praised by director Quentin Tarantino as his favorite slasher movie of all time, MY BLOODY VALENTINE (1981) tells the story of a small mining town and its residents that fall victim to a vengeful, homicidal maniac on Valentine’s Day. The film has garnered a cult following and has also sparked a major-studio remake in 2009.

By working directly with composer Paul Zaza (Prom Night, Curtains, Porky’s), Waxwork was allowed to work directly from the original master tapes to source the complete, haunting score. This release marks the very first time the score to the 1981 slasher-horror classic has been released in any format.

The foreboding score by Paul Zaza is a mix of both minimal synth and orchestral compositions intertwined with bluegrass and country soundtrack cues. Expertly mastered by Thomas DiMuzio at Gench Mastering, the complete score clocks in at over one hour and spans two 150 Gram Blood Red and White Hand-Pour colored records.

Anastacia - Not That Kind LP

Not That Kind LP

Raised in a musical family Anastacia first developed a career as a dancer, appearing in video clips and on MTV shows. Her debut album Not That Kind was released in
2000 and immediately struck a nerve in Europe, Asia and
Australia, before hitting it big in the US.

Her striking looks and most of all her remarkable vocals had her searing up the charts, helped by hit singles such as 'I'm Outta Love', 'Cowboys & Kisses' and the title song. Teaming up with some of the most successful songwriters of the time, her expressive alto voice had that rough edge needed for an identity of her own in blasting Pop/Rock/Soul tracks that did well both at home and on the dance floor.

Influenced more by Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner than contemporaries Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera she appealed to an adult crowd, eventually turning her into the 'World's Best Selling New Female Pop Artist' at the 2001
World Music Awards.

Ravi Shankar And Philip Glass - Passages

  • A3: Channels And Winds
  • B1: Ragas In Minor Scale

  • B3: Prashanti

Passages is a collaborative chamber music studio album co-composed by Ravi Shankar and Philip Glass, released in
1990. The album is a hybrid of Hindustani Classical music and
Glass' distinct American minimal contemporary Classical style.

A collaboration between an avant-garde modern Classical composer and a traditional Indian/Hindi composer/performer seems pretty unlikely. However, Passages works splendidly. Shankar's smooth style fits nicely with Glass' dissonant orchestrations.

The album reached a peak position of number three on Billboard's Top World Music Albums chart. Recommended to fans of other minimalist composers such as John Cage, Steve Reich and Terry Riley.

1999 is the fifth studio album by Prince, originally released by Warner Bros in 1982 and now lovingly re-issued by Rhino with original content.

According to the Rolling Stone Album Guide, "1999 may be Prince's most influential album: Its synth-and-drum machine-heavy arrangements codified the Minneapolis sound that loomed over mid-'80s R&B and pop, not to mention the next two decades' worth of electro, house, and techno."

Performing on the Baroque cello (outfitted with gut strings and without an endpin, making it so that the performer has to clutch the instrument between the legs), Yo-Yo Ma delivers the warm, listener-friendly classical music that he has become known for. Supported by conductor Ton Koopman's period Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Ma presents a wholly unusual interpretation of some of Bach's better known Baroque works, as well as some lesser known pieces by Italian composer Luigi Boccherini.

The sound of the Baroque cello changes the mood of each familiar piece to something warmer and more intimate. The string composition has a less dry tone than the usual wound string, and the absence of the endpin means that there is no sound traveling through the floor, therefore all of the sound comes directly from the body of the instrument. Ma's skilled handling of the pieces evolve Simply Baroque beyond an interesting experiment and into a beautiful listening experience.

Living Music - To Allen Ginsberg

LAST FEW COPIES NOW AVAILABLE. NON-RETURNABLE.

*First vinyl reissue of the highly collectable Italian acid folk album.

* Deluxe 180 gram + gatefold reissue.

* Reproduction of the original 12p Booklet.

* Featuring Library composer and Brainticket graphic designer, Umberto Santucci, 'I cantori moderni di Alessandroni' member Gianfranca Montedoro and Italian jazz legend Cicci Santucci.
Regarded as the link between Italian acid folk, Library music and Krautrock, Living Music was a collective of Italian Musicians, artists and poets active in the counterculture and student movement of Rome in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Taking their name and concept from the New York experimental theatre group 'Living Theatre' husband and wife duo Umberto Santucci (jazz critic, graphic designer (Brainticket) and photographer, library composer) and Gianfranca Montedoro (Jazz and rock singer, member of Alessandroni Vocal group, Brainticket) hosted improvisational sessions at their home where they explored the concepts of communal expression through music and poetry. These experiments would lead to a recording session in which they set their psychedelic compostions to the poetry of Beat poet Allen Ginsberg.
Their sole 1971 album for RCA's Italy's experimental imprint 'Free Dimension' is a phenomenal psychedelic excursion into acid folk, Tibetan chants, Indian drones, and avant-jazz (Featuring Umberto's brother and Italian jazz legend Cicci Santucci) all centered around the powerful voice of Gianfranca Montedoro. It has since become a highly sort after recording for folk and progressive collectors.

Mechanical Marvels: Clockwork Dreams is Alex Menzies follow up to 2015's 'Order & Disorder' LP release for Kathexis, both original soundtracks to BBC4 documentaries. The film Mechanical Marvels: Clockwork Dreams explores the amazing and untold story of automata - extraordinary clockwork machines designed hundreds of years ago to mimic and recreate life.

Much of the instrumentation used for Menzies' carefully constructed score was also of the type actually incorporated into automatons, including bells, chimes and wind organs. Percussive patterns scattered throughout the cues are samples of machines moving, gears grinding, halting, some of them automatons themselves. As with 'Order & Disorder' strings & choir are also spread throughout these evocative cues bridging a link from 18th century instrumentation & machines and providing an emotional connection to these long-forgotten marriages of art and engineering that are actually the ancestors of many of our most-loved modern technologies, from recorded music to the cinema and much of the digital world.

With Mechanical Marvels: Clockwork Dreams, Menzies' talents as a composer really shine through; each piece revealing a level of technical sophistication and an inventive use of instruments both new and old to hauntingly beautiful results.

Pauline Oliveros - Four Mediations / Sound Geometrics

Pauline Oliveros surrounded by Belgian ensemble Musiques Nouvelles, performing 2 long pieces for orchestra.

Sound Geometries for Chamber Orchestra, Expanded Instrument System and 5.1 Surround Sound System by Pauline Oliveros was premiered in Brussels. The 3 sections metaphors of the piece are intended to guide the players in their feelings and approaches to conducted, guided and improvisational music making to create differing atmospheres for each of the three sections. Players sounds are picked up during the performance by microphones, processed in one of ten geometrical patterns by the Oliveros designed Expanded Instrument System (EIS). to transform and move the player's sounds in space in the 5.1 surround sound system.

Meditation for Orchestra asks the performers to listen then sound. Listen means to include all that is sounding and to find a space for each sound that is made. Pauline Oliveros and Ione are guests of Ensemble Musiques Nouvelle in this studio performance of Meditation.

Melt Banana - Fetch

Melt Banana

Fetch

12inchAZ09
AZAP
Release unknown

From the whip-like crack of Yako's signature staccato vocals and impossible-to-memorize lyrics to the relentless overdrive tempo of their oneof-a-kind prog-core, Melt-Banana have long resided in a cybertopia of their own devising where the limits of technology and human capability are old-world concerns as quaint and cumbersome as bartering with a blacksmith. The demos for Fetch, their first studio album since the severely fried pop-punk of 1997's Bambi's Dilemma, were completed in March 2011, but the Fukushima earthquake changed everything, including
their ability to concentrate on recording. Which stopped completely.

Once they felt ready to return to their music, they decided to approach the songs on a sound-by-sound basis, choosing each tone with meticulous attention to detail, affirming their personal connections, being themselves naturally and openly.

Fetch scrapes glam shimmers off punk's outermost fringes and forges them into a rather intensely technical Deanscape packed with fantastical hybrids. Agata's guitar riffs, seemingly composed in tandem with skipping CD players, are more bad-ass than ever, bright and fractured like the soundtrack for a CC-Hennix-scored biker flick. The album is juiced with electronics and post-rock production, tempering what could easily be a
tiresome and predictable frenzy, yielding unexpected associations: Kate Bush climaxing on Walter White's blue meth; demos of late-period Wire playing metal run through Wasp synthesizers and Autotune; unripe wild
lychees keeping time on an Ankgor Wat tin roof during a monsoon.

They've been performing live as a duo since summer 2012, and will do the same for their '2 do what 2 fetch' tour in support of the album. After nearly 20 years of playing with a live rhythm section, their use of a PC, while opening possibilities for a variety of drum and synth voicings, does not signal a move away from the traditional live band sound, as heard, for example, via the future transmissions from downtown Noiseapolis on
2009's Lite Live: Ver. 0.0. Yako and Agata say they need to feel real band sounds onstage as much as someone in the audience. This is a group that routinely excels at several kinds of impossible simultaneously, so of course any new challenge they come up with for themselves is sure to blow the doors off your Mini Cooper. - First record as a duo expands the M-B sound
into multiple dimensions - LP includes digital download card; first
pressing on clear vinyl

The Blood Tub Orchestra - The End Of My Old Cigar

Now let's clear something up straight away; this is no retro pastiche but a real working group tampering with the remnants of the almost lost and forgotten songbook of the lower classes, The Music Hall. Once considered one of the seven curses of London that detracted those working class types from their duty to make money for Queen, Empire and the intolerant ruling elite, Music Hall was a den of vice, sharps and wanton behavior, a lurid spectacle of unblushing immodesty...well not too much has changed for the binge drinking masses, festival frenzied fornicators and the crack den denizens of the inner cities, other that nowadays, the leopards' spots are equally placed on the disposable equity burdened middle classes, who are quietly having their purses pinched by the pasty faced sharks of the new unfettered borders in this current great empire of finance.

The rousing rancorous heyday of these 'palatial shams', where 'the modern comic vocalist doled out feeble jingling idiocies of his own composition' lasted only a few short years in reality before it was sanitized by those with an eye for a fast buck and the state backed rise of the Temperance movements. It then slowly dissolved over 100 years into the tepid light entertainment of 60's and 70's Variety Shows and televised 'spectaculars' such as The Black & White Minstrel Show and on to the further degenerate televised horrors of shows today like 'Strictly' and 'Britains Got No Talent' (sic).

So it is with great relief, honour and privilege that we announce The Blood Tub Orchestra's declaration of intent to strive for the restoration of these glorious days of bitter humour, coarse innuendo, political satire and a damn us all to hell and the trenches of a jolly old knee's up, come one, come all, to restore the lost voice of the Great British cattle classes.

The great Harry Champion would no doubt raise a laugh at such wry commentry. Our Harry, the voice of the people throughout the 2 World Wars and an endless amount of skirmishes in both battlefield, bar brawl and brothel no doubt, provides us with the ammunition of the lewd entendre laced standard, 'The End Of My Old Cigar', given more than a healthy dose of boiled bully and gin tonicised blather, in this rousing interpretation.

The Immobile One and generally uncheeky chappie, Sam Mayo's performance of 'I Played My Concertina' gives us the starting point for our next insight into the Pre-WW1 mentality of 'ornery people' and their laughter in the face of misery, with yet another piece of lyrical smut. Please note, no smiles were cracked during the recording of this performance.

While the first side of the EP represents a small sampler of the sort of thing to expect from the forthcoming Blood Tub Orchestra album, the second side was recorded live at the Bethnal Green Working Men's Club, one of London's rare thus far unscathed multi-purpose cultural venues, a true anomaly that lives and breathes many of the attributes and attitudes of the heady days of the East End music halls and the stainged glitter hangover that goes with it.

Blood Tub's belt and braces revamp of Lesley Sarony's 'Bloomin' Well Dead', an ascerbic prod at the hypocrisy of behavioral misdemeanor at funerals, still rings as true today as it ever did. And finally there's, 'Oh Father, Do Come Home', one of a number of satirical jibes aimed at popular hit of the day, 'Father, Dear Father, The Brokers Are In', a
In the Temperance song of warning style that increasingly infiltrated the Music Hall scene, in order to combat the profligacy of the immoral games of 'fox-and-goose' distracting our fine young fellows from their devotion to good deed and good stead. Again, nothing changes, with the recent Government Guidelines recommend that alcohol consumption to be limited to 6 pints or 6 glasses of wine per week, ring a bell Ah well, bah humbug to the lot of 'em! Who's for a quick tiddly wink or three

The Blood Tub Orchestra are a most interesting and innovative outfit. A delightful and enthralling experience with their wholly unique idea of unearthing Victorian and Edwardian music gems from often long-forgotten artists and rattling their bones to breathe new life into them by evolving the pieces into fully-formed 21st century creations whilst retaining the characteristics and soul of the original, historic works. The ghost has firmly spooked the machinery. The rose-tinted veneer is peeled back and injected with the spirit of the age, both ancient and modern.

With the cosy mothball whiff of fancy dress nostalgia removed, a straight bare knuckle fight between the song and the performers ensues, finding its place in creating the most mouthwatering proposition since The Rolling Stones re-introduced Blues to America. Great Britain, this means you!

The Blood Tub Orchestra is comprised of a rag tag assortment of musical waistrels. Tim Whelan (Transglobal Underground, Furniture etc), Ashley Davies (Project Dark, London Dirthole Co etc), Kirsten Reynolds (Project Dark, LDC etc), Rob Lewis (Pulkas, LDC etc), Debbie Smith (Echobelly, Ye Nuns etc) plus various guestsY

The sixty tracks on offer highlight the variety that the 90s provided from the boy band swagger of East 17 to the sultry R&B of Adina Howard to the brit pop of Supergrass and the anthemic electro of Dario G. British icons such as All Saints, Duran Duran and The Human League share the stage with American giants The Notorious B.I.G., Cher, The Rembrandts and many more.

The Avener - Fade Out Lines 12"

The Short Straws Original-Track "The Fade Out Line".

A new Golden Age' collection is always a special event at Ace. The success of our first Special Country Edition in the Golden Age Of American Popular Music' series virtually guaranteed that there would be a follow-up at some point. Here it is at long last, mastered from the best possible sources and with an equally strong line up of names and tracks.

Virtually all 28 of our featured artists were household names in country in their day, and the majority of them still are over 50 years
later.

There's a generous helping of uptempo hillbilly and borderline rockabilly among the straight ahead country to preserve the musical variety.

The booklet is crammed with in-depth annotation and copious illustrations with at least one image for every one of its 28 selections.

Yo-Yo Ma Plays Ennio Morricone is a 2004 album of recordings from Morricone's various film scores by brilliant cellist Yo-Yo Ma and Ennio Morricone. The album was recorded with the Roma Sinfonietta Orchestra and Gilda Buttà on piano. Morricone functioned as orchestrator, conductor and producer. The album stayed 105 weeks on the Billboard Top Classical Albums.

Yo-Yo Ma Plays Ennio Morricone positively diverges from most of the other interpretation albums in its collaborative aspect: the music's original creator, Morricone, had as much to do with this album as did Ma and his creative team.

F.s.blumm & Nils Frahm - Tag Eins Tag Zwei (limited)

Followers of the Sonic Pieces catalogue will already be familiar with the individuals of F.S.Blumm and Nils Frahm as well as their acclaimed work as a duo. But even though they're making use of familiar instruments their new album Tag Eins Tag Zwei manages to add a new tone to their already unique language. By trading their post-processed sound sculptures that made up the two preceding albums in for intimate pieces of improvisation, this collaboration merges into the most soothing and life affirming recording the two have produced so far.

Guitars and toys are flowing next to piano and harmonium like an organic combination, shaping nine suits that abnegate any common categorization. Involving classical, jazz and folk influences it's the genuine use of tricks and delays that lift these improvisations above the ordinarXy and makes them both incredibly relaxing and exciting at the same time. It is almost ironic that by capturing accidental moments of free playing, Frank and Nils are succeeding at an even more impressive scale than their already highly satisfying previous output.

The result delivers a perfect example of how immediacy can be the most powerful approach to creating music. Based on a remarkable understanding of each other's phrasing the pair of sessions that comprises this album shows two vivid artists at the peak of their game: Unconditional spontaneity.

Moon Ate The Dark - Moon Ate The Dark I + Ii

Double CD / Double LP Edition including the 2012 self titled debut album by Moon Ate The Dark and the 2nd follow-up album simply called "II".

With their second album Moon Ate the Dark is taking the next step of contemporary piano composition. Moving on from their well-received debut album in 2012, Moon Ate the Dark II is based on an extraordinary playful and varied approach to melodies and drones with dedication to subtle, yet complex details.
The combination of Anna Rose Carter's piano, violin and keyboard playing and Christopher Bailey's electronics, amplifiers as well as organs and synthesizers creates something less shadowy than their first album in favour of a more melodic, still thoughtful endeavour that manages to virtuously move on the thin line of nostalgia and optimism.

While the shorter pieces of the record are mostly based on lively piano tunes completed by forceful electronic components, the attentive ‚Sleepy Vipers' is dragging the listener into drones and violin that slow the pace to create an engaging high mark in the duo's recordings underlined by the excellent production that will grip the listener until the very last notes of the wonderful closing track ‚Lo'. Moon Ate the Dark II is an impressive achievement and evidence of how diverting a meeting of two parts can be if they match as perfectly as this.

Otto A Totland - Pino

Otto A Totland

Pino

CDSP 019-CD STANDARD
Sonic Pieces
01.03.2016

Otto A Totland's modern compositional elements are most widely recognized as half of the Norwegian duo Deaf Center, where his melancholic, intricate piano work provides haunting relief to the beds of noise and deep strings from Erik K Skodvin. Pinô is the first full-length release by Totland, though his solo work has been released once, as the 5-minute A-side of Sonic Pieces 7inch Harmony From the Past. Otto's previously brief vignettes are now expanded into a fully personal realization of his own style.
Initial track Open fills itself with heavy, knowing pauses that quickly become overwhelmed with the desire to understand what's to come. Each silence leads into quick flutters of keys, preparing the listener for a vast terrain of giddy beauty, bleak depths, and true contentedness. Pinô quickly recalls deep winter; in front of a fireplace for days on end, you lose how far along you've ventured into the 18 tracks without any idea how far is left to go. The experience feels inevitable, with no other option but to curl up somewhere cozy and appreciate the sense of timelessness that Totland has created. His album is a haunting modern compositional treasure, expressed through instrumentals completely unique to Totland and captured masterfully by Nils Frahm at Durton Studios.
With Pinô, Otto A Totland appears out of the Norwegian landscape, sharing an achievement that will provide a relief during the brooding winter darkness. Though a highly personal endeavor, the recognizable continuation of Totland's compositions will attract fans of Deaf Center, and the cinematic and classical components of his solo work will hold sway for those familiar with Harold Budd or Dustin O'Halloran.

Takeshi Nishimoto - Lavandula

Takeshi Nishimoto

Lavandula

CDSP 018-CD STANDARD
Sonic Pieces
01.03.2016

Takeshi Nishimoto comes from a background as a guitarist, receiving classical training from some of the world´s premiere guitar players, while on the other hand he has been steadily growing into the more electronic music scene with a bunch of albums on CCO as I´m Not A Gun alongside John Tajeda. Takeshi appeared solo on record first in 2007 through CCO offset label Büro and returns now with his second album, this time for sonic pieces.
Although you could say Lavandula is a guitar solo record - that really does not do it justice if you dive deeper into the sounds that resonates within it. At times, Takeshi uses some really fine electronic methods to bend and shape the guitar and background atmospheres, like the beautifully perceived Strassenlaterne. Other times it feels like you are in the middle of a still picture from a forest lake in the Japanese countryside, slowly waking up together with the sun. The track Tone Water on the other hand sounds like Squarepusher´s classic acoustic masterpiece, Music is Rotted, One Note played on the Guitar instead of Bass and comes off as a fresh change of direction in the middle of the album.
Lavandula is a very personal and beautiful late summer album that brings to mind the film music of Gustavo Santaolalla (21 grams, Babel, Biutiful) or Tape´s classic albums for Häpna, but traveling through Japanese, North American and European traditions. A great record to bring while traveling, wake up to in the morning or simply enjoy in a quiet evening.

The Incredible String Band is the debut album by the Folk band of the same name, released in 1966. It is the only one of the band's albums to feature the original trio line-up with Clive Palmer as well as Robin Williamson and Mike Heron.

They recorded the album at the Sound Techniques studio in Chelsea, London in one afternoon in May 1966, with Joe Boyd as producer. Boyd insisted on focusing on the group's own self-written material, rather than the traditional songs and tunes which they had also been performing, and with each performer singing his own material.

The album showcased the trio's abilities on a variety of instruments, although the instrumentation is relatively orthodox compared to the band's later work. All three members played guitar and sang, with Palmer also playing banjo and kazoo and Williamson playing mandolin, banjo, tin whistle and fiddle/violin.

Lee Hazlewood - The Very Special World Of Lee Hazlewood

Lee Hazlewood was a late bloomer. Following a meandering career as a disc jockey, producer, songwriter, label executive and solo artist, Hazlewood hit the jackpot at the ripe age of 37 with These Boots Are Made For Walkin',' the song Nancy Sinatra took to the top of the charts on both sides of the Atlantic.
Its success convinced MGM Records that Hazlewood was a bankable star, and they signed him as an artist in his own right the same year. But as a self-described "non-singer" whose cult 1963 debut, Trouble Is A Lonesome Town, was little more than a happy accident, they'd perhaps gotten the wrong end of the stick where Lee was concerned.

In three years on the label, Hazlewood delivered three albums and sundry odds and ends, beginning with 1966 album The Very Special World Of Lee Hazlewood. The LP found Hazlewood gunning-in as much as he ever did-for commercial success, blending country, pop, novelty, mariachi, and lounge music into something unusually of-the-moment.

Lushly orchestrated and-like the album that preceded it-half-sung, half-spoken in a way that Hazlewood made all his own, the album collected solo versions of songs made famous by Sinatra and others ( Sand,' Boots,' So Long Babe,' Summer Wine'-included as a bonus duet with Suzi Jane Hokom) alongside some of his career-best solo compositions, among them the Morricone-like opener, For One Moment.' It's a record of extremes: When A Fool Loves A Fool' is as light and throwaway as anything he ever laid down, while the wistful My Autumn's Done Come' (sample lyric: "Let those I-don't-care days come in, I'm tired of holding my stomach in") is as raw and honest.

Despite MGM's best efforts, Hazlewood proved difficult to market without a Sinatra to temper his baritone drawl, and you'd suspect Hazlewood wasn't taking it quite as seriously as they might have hoped anyway. By 1967, Hazlewood had founded the LHI imprint and was busy building his own empire-one we've been lovingly archiving for the past few years. We now present this missing link in the story, plus follow-ups Lee Hazlewoodism: Its Cause and Cure (1967) and Something Special (1968). Welcome, then, to Hazlewood's magnificent MGM years.

Lee Hazlewood - Something Special

The three years spent on MGM Records between 1966 and 1968 were golden ones for Lee Hazlewood.
He spent them working with his muse, Suzi Jane Hokom, writing a still-unreleased book, The Quiet Revenge of Elmo Furback, competing with Phil Spector from their respective studios, and coming up with the formula for the "boy/girl' songs for which he'd become famous. In fact, the unflattering portrait on the cover of Something Special did little to hint at how hip this late-flowering talent (he was in his late 30s when These Boots Are Made For Walkin'' made him a star songwriter) had become.

The common strand on the MGM trilogy is one of the unexpected happening. They were an ill fit for a major label-experimental, difficult to pigeonhole, and unpredictable. Those descriptors apply nowhere more aptly than Something Special. Where 1966's The Very Special World Of Lee Hazlewood and 1967's Lee Hazlewoodism: Its Cause And Cure had employed an arranger, Billy Strange, and a full orchestra, Something Special stripped things back and brought in a flavor of jazz and blues, complete with gravelly-voiced scatting courtesy of collaborator Don Randi. This sat alongside tracks like Little War' and Hands,' the kind of late night, acoustic balladeering Hazlewood would later seize for his career-highlight LP, Requiem For An Almost Lady. The sound was that of a stripped-down nightclub jazz/blues/folk combo, fully rejecting the psychedelic music going on all over the world.

The album made clear that forging a career as a serious star was not at the top of Hazlewood's agenda, and at the third opportunity, he'd let the listener in on the joke. Tellingly, Hokom recalls Hazlewood saying the MGM albums were his expensive demos. I'm sure that MGM thought that they would be successful.' Little chance of that with Something Special-it was originally released only in Germany. The same year, Hazlewood founded the LHI imprint, and began building his own empire, one we've been lovingly archiving for the past few years. We now present this missing link in the story, three albums that generated some of Hazlewood's best-and most varied-work.

This is YMO's first live recorded album and their second number 1 album in Japan. Several concerts were recorded for Public Pressure, all in 1979 (The Venue in London, Greek Theater in LA, Bottom Line in NYC, Sun Plaza in Nakano).

This album contains first class recordings, clear and sparkling; YMO is arguably at its best with an audience. Akiko Yano is a welcomed addition to YMO, as she completes the band with sublime vocals.

This live album has a much more relaxed approach to the music, as it feels like they're jamming on stage and clearly enjoying themselves!

Lee Hazlewood - It's Cause And Cure

The mid-to-late '60s were strange days for Lee Hazlewood. Having struck gold as songwriter and vocal foil for Nancy Sinatra, he signed up to MGM as an artist in his own right, and between 1966 and 1968, produced three ambitious solo albums that were eclectic, idiosyncratic, and most of all, unpredictable.
It was a happy time for Lee; his music was hot on the charts, he was fully immersed in his collaboration with his muse, Suzi Jane Hokom.

The second of his MGM trilogy-1967's peculiarly named Lee Hazlewoodism: Its Cause And Cure-took on countrified French ye-ye ('The Girls In Paris'), a tale of a young bullfighter built on Spanish guitar and choral cowboys ('Jose'), a string-drenched song about the passing of time ('The Old Man And His Guitar'), and a western epic about a Native American tribe ('The Nights'). And that was just the first four tracks. Elsewhere, the honky tonk madness of 'Suzi Jane Is Back In Town,' the Byrds-like jangle of 'In Our Time' and-in the bonus tracks-an instrumental named 'Batman' confirm this to be one of Hazlewood's most far-ranging, far-out LPs ever.

It's the result of two main factors: ambition-to top Phil Spector, primarily-and cash, which paid for orchestras, plush studios, and the inestimable talents of arranger Billy Strange. 'I think the big sound of those records came out of the Spector thing,' says Hokom, in the new liner notes. 'If you can have a big sound and you have money to burn... it was a flamboyancy.'

Released before the Nancy & Lee LP-a bona fide hit for Reprise Records-Hazlewoodism was a tougher nut to crack, a record that confused by combining po-faced delivery with unabashed comical touches. By 1967, Hazlewood had founded the LHI imprint, and was busy building his own empire-one we've been lovingly archiving for the past few years. We now present this missing link in the story, plus predecessor, The Very Special World Of Lee Hazlewood and follow-up, Something Special. Welcome to Hazlewood's magnificent-and mad-MGM years.

Lee Hazlewood - Something Special

Saturdays = Youth is the fifth studio album by M83, first released in 2008. It's produced by Ken Thomas, known for his work with Sigur Rós, Cocteau Twins and Suede.

Adolescence is the defining theme of this enchanting new album, his most explicit celebration yet of how it feels to be dazed, confused and 15 years old. The record marks a change in a friendlier, pop-shaped direction for M83. After touring Before The Dawn Heals Us for much of 2005, Gonzalez decided to give the noisy rock side of things a rest.

Pitchfork Media ranked Saturdays = Youth at number eight on its list of The 50 Best Albums of 2008, and it was also named the best album of 2008 by Drowned in Sound.

I Raminghi - Il Lungo Cammino Dei Raminghi + Bonus Track

Born in the early 60s as 'Herr Mussita e i Nomadi' by initiative from bassist / singer Franco Mussita, the group soon altered its name to 'Nomadi' until, not to clash with the namesakes of the famous authors of 'Dio è morto', they eventually and permanently changed into 'I Raminghi'.

Under this name the band began to play several stage and even TV appearances, and in the wake of a growing success they finally managed to record and release their only LP in 1971. The typical vehemence of their live performances is perhaps only partly transferred on the album tracks, but "Il lungo cammino dei Raminghi" is still a remarkable job, packed with beat, psychedelic, progressive and folk music, which certainly impressed the lucky ones who were able to listen to it at the time of its release.

This album was in fact printed in very few copies, and is now among the rarest items of the early seventies Italian scene. Already reissued by Vinyl Magic in a CD papersleeve version, which is now out of print, "Il lungo cammino..." is now proposed in a faithful reproduction of the original release, with a 30x30cm mini-poster and a completely unheard song, "Non Farlo"!
A beautiful work, to be rediscovered and re-evaluated as soon as possible!Including a bonus track

The Gil Evans Orchestra Plays - The Music Of Jimi Hendrix

Plays The Music Of Jimi Hendrix" -
Gil Evans (arr, cond, p); David Sanborn, Billy Harper (sax, fl); Lewis Soloff (tp); Tom Malone (synth, tb, fl, b); David Horowitz (el-p, synth); John Abercrombie (g); Don Pate (b); Warren Smith, Jr. (chimes, perc, vib); Bruce Ditmas (dr); a.o.

Critics find this album rather difficult to evaluate. Their judgement ranges from a colourful mixture to a successful cover album to a masterly fusion and an homage to an artist whose life came to an end far too soon - Jimi Hendrix. Jimi had long been gone when this album was recorded in 1974. But it is almost superfluous to look back to the legendary Hendrix if you focus on the great Gil Evans. After such milestones as "Birth Of The Cool" and "Sketches Of Spain" it isn't difficult to regard these late audiophile masterpieces as a logical development of Evans's exceptional skill as an arranger.
When you listen - or rather experience - how the crystal-clear sound in "Angel" is heightened to an emphatic ballad on the saxophone, or how rich soulful vocals storm ahead in a funky style ("Crosstown Traffic"), or fluffy, cloud-like sounds are built up on the flutes in "Castles Made From Sand", then it is no longer of importance who thought out the music. It is sufficient that it exists and is pleasing to all who hear it. It is also unimportant whether one reveres Hendrix's immemorable melodies or whether one pays homage to Evans's visionary soundworld: a recording such as this could only be born of the two.

Recording: 1974 at RCA's Studio B, New York City, by Bob Simpson
Production: Mike Lipskin

A compilation of classic 70s/80s AOR tracks, that make up the genre of Yacht Rock - smooth rock at its best!

So what of AOR, in fact what do we even mean by Adult Orientated Rock It's the music that sold albums by the truckload in the 70s and 80s, to an audience of rock fans who had graduated college and were getting stuck in to grown up jobs whilst listening to singers wearing per-ironic mullets. It was well-produced and nicely performed and just a little glossy. (...)These records could contain a hell of a lot of soul. Singers such as Daryl Hall or Michael McDonald had the best blue-eyed soul voices in the US and when they had hits many others tried to copy them.' (AOR Breaks liner notes).

Features all of the biggest artists, including Christopher Cross, The Doobie Brothers, Hall & Oates, Michael McDonald, Carly Simon, Seals and Crofts, America, Rickie Lee Jones & many more.

Fountains Of Wayne F - Fountains Of Wayne

Every so often, a band comes along that digs back into what pop music is all about -- good, fun tunes. Fountains of Wayne is one such band.

Their self-titled debut studio album was released in 1996. Recorded when the band was just a duo, Chris Collingwood and Adam Schlesinger provided almost all the instrumentation during the recording. Schlesinger and Porter had also been members of The Belltower, and bassist Danny Weinkauf later played with Lincoln before joining They Might Be Giants [Flood available as MOVLP1239].

Written over a period of years as outlets to make each other laugh through inside jokes and references to suburban life in New York and New Jersey, the songs on the album were recorded in five days. The songwriting is straightforward and wonderful; nearly every song is a Pop gem. The result is an innovative album - very few albums released in the '90s have been this pleasant, charming, and all-round likeable.

Scott Morgan notes: Compositionally, many tracks on Plume are similar in approach to First Narrows; they started with a harmonic root from which sounds were processed into a loose structure over whcih the live players could improvise. There was substantially less editing this time around with the live tracks. I opted to choose the better improvised passes and merely mix them in and out rather than cut them up. I think this leaves a lot more natural space and balances the heavily structured and repetitive electronic elements with more organic performed layers.

Jason Zumpano returned from the First Narrows ensemble and I aslo recruited long time friend Steve Wood and my partner Krista to play some ebow guitar as well as Josh Lindstrom to play some xylophone and vibraphone which added some new elements into the mix.

Thematically, I stuck with things that are quintessentially loscil; flow, subtle movement, gradual transition, growth. Also of significance to this album is the family connection. "Charlie" was composed after seeing and hearing my daughter Sadie through ultrasound while still in the womb. The track was also composed as a womb-like sound experience for her to sleep to after she was born, hence the heart beats.

Ryuichi Sakamoto & Taylor Deupree - Live In London

As St John Sessions' reputation has developed, so too have opportunities outside its stained-glass windows: an accompanying string of performances have been established up the road at Café OTO; cultural institutions are frequently on board, most notably in the case of founding partner Moringa, a community-focused arts charity; local broadcasters NTS Radio and Boiler Room have been bringing the music to an international audience via frequent live streams. All this will now be housed within a larger umbrella company entitled ThirtyThree ThirtyThree - a double quip on both the sonic (full-length RPMs) and the spiritual (Jesus' rather untimely demise) - with a namesake record label to match. The imprint, set up in collaboration with The Vinyl Factory, will exist to showcase live recordings taken from St John Sessions, both home and abroad as the series expands. ThirtyThree ThirtyThree kicks off with arguably the most impactful St John performance to date: Ryuichi Sakamoto and Taylor Deupree. 2014's concert with sound design wizard Deupree and multi-discipline legend Sakamoto - whose career has run the gamut from Oscar-winning film scores through daring proto-electronic records - was notable for their kinetic understanding on stage, providing a fittingly unique way to inaugurate a unique label.* Legendary live performance by Ryuichi Sakamoto & Taylor Deupree * Recorded as part of the St. John Sessions * Mixed and mastered by Taylor Deupree * Vinyl mastering by Noel Summerville * Pressed on two 180-gram heavyweight records (run time: 54 minutes) * Housed in a bespoke clear foiled outer sleeve * Includes 12" photographic print * Limited to 1000 copies worldwide
