This eventually led to several singles under his birth name ranging across the popular teen sounds of the time, from rockabilly to doo wop to pure pop. Though these are decidedly of the time, you can hear in his voice the truly mind-bending work that was to come from Mr. Walker. A fascinating look at the early work of a truly brilliant cult figure. Well before Shuggie Otis (Born Johnny Alexander Veliotes, Jr.) cut his debut album, musicianship and performance had long been a part of his life. The son of rhythm and blues legend Johnny Otis, Shuggie learned to play guitar as early as the age of two, and performed professionally with his father's band at eleven. Throughout his long and illustrious career he'd performed on records for the likes of Frank Zappa, Al Kooper, Etta James, and George Duke, to name a few. In spite of all this, widespread mainstream success eluded Shuggie for much of his early career, though he'd later pen the Brothers Johnson hit "Strawberry Letter 23". Despite never managing a great amount of commercial success upon its release, Shuggie Otis' third album Inspiration/Information was a critical smash decades after its release, and has maintained a level of cult status normally reserved for mysterious, unearthed legends like Sixto Rodriguez or Lee Fields. Inspiration/Information was noteworthy among Shuggie's other releases, as it was the only one produced entirely by himself, as opposed to his father Johnny Otis. Shuggie's signature blend of baroque funk is on full display, but with a heavy dosage of psychedelic soul blended in, resulting in an album that's equally swarthy, lush, funky, and emotional. Gathering all the best bits of Marvin Gaye, Love, Miles Davis, and even Os Mutantes, Inspiration/Information is more than worthy of acclaim awarded to it.

Though she had been performing professionally since the late 1920s, as a teenager in Harlem, during its Renaissance, the immortal Billie Holiday didn't play a single night on the European continent until 1954. It was in that year that the great journalist and musician Leonard Feather, and a Swedish promoter organized the Jazz Club U.S.A. tour, named after Feather's wildly popular radio program. Featuring Red Norvo, Sonny Clark, and more, the centerpiece of Jazz Club U.S.A. was, undoubtedly, Lady Day. Recorded at various dates across the tour, Lady Love shows Holiday still had it, despite the turmoil, and drug and alcohol abuse, her voice remained strong, a stunning document of one of America's greatest treasures on her first ever tour of Europe.

Though he's been dead for nearly 50 years, Joe Meek remains one of the most fascinating and influential figures in British pop music. A brilliant and prolific producer and songwriter - despite his inability to either play an instrument or read music - Meek also happened to be an occultist, paranoiac, suicidal depressive and, to top it all off, a murderer. Though only 37 at the time of his death Meek left a large body of work rivaled only by his equally inspired/insane competitor across the pond, Phil Spector. Houston, Texas' favorite son Sam John Hopkins, better known as Lightnin', was recorded in 1959 by the legendary musicologist Samuel Charters, predating and predicting the folk-blues revival of the early '60s. Highly regarded as one of the finest acoustic blues albums ever, Lightnin' Hopkins established its hero as a legend. The very definition of essential.

1962's Modern Sounds In Country And Western Music is regarded by many as Ray Charles' finest studio album. A departure from his earlier work for ABC and Atlantic, this LP features Charles' reworkings of country standards in his inimitable pop-R&B style. In addition to being a damn fine album, it was also a landmark release as it bridged the racial divide between country music and R&B and also marked one of the earliest albums where a black artist had complete creative and production control over their own recordings. A truly monumental piece of 20th century American music history, one that is essential to any collector of R&B or country!

Graham Bond died in May of 1974 and it seemed the world of music forgot about one of the most interesting and legendary artists to come out of the early 60's music scene. Graham was multi-talented, mastering the alto sax, piano and the organ. His vocals and phrasing are truely one of a kind. Graham experimented with various forms of R & B but these particular albums are totally spiritual and mystical. Check out "The Magician" , "Moving Towards the Light" and "Time to Die". Some of the most moving pieces of music I've ever heard. Graham was experimeting with a form of new age music long before anyone had ever even tried to.

This is REAL new age music. It is powerful. Highly

If you like semi hard, blues guitar oriented jam rock then look no farther, grab this one if you can. This puppy rocks from track 1 through track 7 with no let up in between. All seven tracks are toe tappers Miss Purdy.

Here we have some excellent, prog. influenced blues rock with extended guitar jams, some elec. violin, and a nice diversity of material with imaginative songwriting. The album starts off with arguably the best cut. The hard rocking "If I Could Keep From Laughing" is quickly followed by the innovative Native-American flavored "Medicine Weasel".

In the late 1950s, it was common for big labels to record performances simultaneously in Mono and Stereo, and then release both versions at the same time, with different reference numbers. This was explained at the time by the fact that Stereo was still a very recent innovation, and not everyone had sound systems capable of reproducing the new technology. The Stereo
albums were slightly more expensive than their Monocounterparts. Over time, the Mono versions were condemned to oblivion, and only recently some music fans began to value these long forgotten masters, which capture classic performances from a different aural point of view.

Out of the ashes of Toledo's Henry and June arose the mighty Soledad Brothers. This recording is the Soledad Brothers doing what they did best - houserockin' blues in full Midwestern malaise. This single was recorded in 1998 at Jack White's house on Ferdinand Street in southwest Detroit and was the band's debut release.
As key players in a scene of like-minded minimalist garage groups, vocalist, guitarist and master of harmonica Johnny Walker and drummer/future Third Man Records co-founder Ben Swank, were playing shows in Detroit so often, it eventually just made sense for Ben to pay Jack rent and become his roommate. This single features Jack playing a metal snow shovel on the B-side, "Johnny's Death Letter".

British blues legend Alexis Korner first began performing live in 1949 in Chris Barber's Jazz Band, where he met his longtime bandmate, the great harp player Cyril Davies, and they released their first recordings in 1957. After cutting their teeth on the UK club circuit, honing their skills to near perfection, together in 1961 they formed Alexis Korner's Blues Incorporated along with the great UK vocalist Long John Baldry, and released this, their debut album, in 1962. R&B From The Marquee is one of the pillars of British Blues and an album that influenced heavily the coming generation of British Invasion blues groups. Featuring originals penned by Korner, Davies, and Baldry as well as American blues legends Jimmy Witherspoon and Muddy Waters, this is a killer piece of British Blues history finally back in print on vinyl.

Blues legend John Lee Hooker cut countless records beginning with his debut for Modern in 1948 and going some 50+ years until his death in 2001. With such a vast discography it can be easy to lose track of some records and Burning Hell, recorded in Detroit in 1959 with just his guitar and vocals, is one such lost record. But this album deserves so much to be rediscovered, a brilliant set from his "acoustic" period this is raw southern acoustic blues at its best and a truly brilliant collection of songs. Rumble is pleased to bring this lost classic back to light on LP.

In response to the warm reception of his most recent album, 'Melodium Rag' (released in Febuary 2017), the Ghent-based blues musician Tiny Legs Tim is delighted to annouce the release of another new album.'Live at Sint-Jacobs' - his fifth release - was recorded live during the Gent Festival and offers a broad selection from the 2,5 hour show Tim and his outstanding band performed on the main stage of Sint-Jacobs on the 16th of July 2016. An evening and recording to cherish!

The performance as headliner on the main stage of Sint-Jacobs has been the highlight of Tim's musical journey so far. Originally Tiny Legs Tim was a one-man-band, but opening for (among others) Pete Doherty, Richard Rhompson, John Mayall and Bombino, allowed him to evolve into a solid live act. 'Live at Sint-Jacobs' showcases a confident artist, who, with his band, enjoyed the magic atmosphere of that night.

The energetic concert at Sint-Jacobs follows 18 months after the release of Tim's third album 'Stepping Up'. Thanks to numerous national and international concerts preceding the live recording (like Dranouter, Blues Peer, EBC in Italy, AB, 4ad, Ribs & Blues, Eurosonic, Hoogtevrees, Sniester,...), one hears a tight-knit blues-act on the album. The many miles on the road together with Steven Troch (harmonica), drummer Frederik Van den Berghe and bassist Karel Algoed have bore fruit. The Gent-based artist Tiny Legs Tim is one of the most important figures in the Gent Blues Scene. He is the co-organiser of the Missy Sippy Blues & Roots Festival and is one of the parties behind the bues jams and club concerts that take place in the Missy Sippy Blues & Roots Club. It's clear: Tiny Legs is a mainstay in the blues & roots circuit.

This collection brings together the finest televised appearances that the Doors made during their short but often unpredictable and chaotic career. Featuring performances on a number of shows made between 1967 and 1969, and including live-in-the-studio editions of classics such as 'The End,' 'Light My Fire,' 'Moonlight Drive,' and 'The Soft Parade' among a number of others, these little-heard versions reveal yet another side of this hugely influential and legendary collective.

Despite her last name, Anna St. Louis was born and raised in Kansas City. She grew up a painter and singing in punk bands, eventually leaving her hometown to attend art school in Philadelphia. After graduating she made the move to Los Angeles where she began teaching herself guitar, writing songs and recording them on her own in her bedroom. First Songs is the sound of someone discovering their talent in real time - a peak into the collage of a wonderful mind that is absorbing their new surroundings and using new tools to put them into the room. Listening to this collection you can feel the sun coming in through the window - Anna on the foot of the bed with a guitar on her knee, finding her voice. St. Louis wears her influences well - think Patsy Cline singing over John Fahey - but has a style all her own. And while you can take the artist out of the midwest, you can't take the midwest out of the artist - so let this be known, this is Midwestern music ran through a California filter. Many musicians possess elements of genius, but it was the great Ray Charles who so fully embodied the term that it was bestowed upon him as a nickname. Blind since the age of six (from glaucoma), Ray Charles (Albany, Georgia, September 23, 1930 - Beverly Hills, California, June 10, 2004) combined elements of gospel, R&B and blues into a fervid, exuberant style that would come to be known as soul music.
This edition contains, for the first time on vinyl, Ray Charles' splendid 1960 live set at the Newport Jazz Festival, which was taped two years after his first appearance there (the 1958 concert issued on the Atlantic LP Ray Charles at Newport). By the time this 1960 performance took place, Charles had already left the Atlantic label, so the concert didn't originally make it onto an LP. The eclectic repertoire includes Neal Hefti's Lil' Darlin'', made famous by Count Basie on his classic 1958 Atomic Mr. Basie album. The studio versions of both Let the Good Times Roll' and Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying' were included on the 1959 album The Genius of Ray Charles, and bear arrangements by
Quincy Jones, which were played by a big band on the record and adapted to an eight-piece band for the concert.

Riding fairly high on the success of their singles, the band, whose members included Jim Capaldi, Steve Winwood, Chris Wood, and Dave Mason, released its 1967 debut LP, which also soon shot up to the number 16 slot on the UK albums chart.

Aided by their use of unusual instruments (Winwood played the organ, Wood played flute and Mason the sitar) they created a hybrid of pop / blues rock with a sound that was somewhat unique for the time and which soon made them international superstars.

The southern-style, Rhythm & Blues album Play The Blues by Buddy Guy & Junior Wells was recorded in the Miami Criteria Studios in the second half of 1970. Nevertheless, Guy was not able to leave Chicago out of this album with tracks such as "Bad Bad Whiskey" and "My Baby She Left Me".

This is probably the best recordings Guy & Wells ever made, sounding clean and smooth. An excellent blues album from two masters in blues!

This home-made and self-produced platter was issued by Roy Buchanan (guitar/vocals) after being rejected by Polydor. The six-piece backing combo are deceptively tight and likewise a perfect foil for both Buchanan's nimble fingers and acutely soulful leads. The opening cover of Don Gibson's "Sweet Dreams" alternately shimmers and sears behind the band's nimble waltz. The languid and drawn-out "Down by the River" is nothing short of a seminal example of the riveting command that formed around Buchanan's solos. Of even greater value are the originals "Since You've Been Gone" and the truncated "The Messiah Will Come Again," which is joined in progress.

Not much at all -- save for one group that all but dominated the scene from the late '60s to the early '70s. That group was the electric, country-fried psychedelic outfit known as Shiva's Headband. Leader, violinist, guitarist, and vocalist Spencer Perskin was (and still is) the quintessential Austin hippie, who not only lobbied for city-based cultural support for local artists but also put Austin on the world-wide music map with the release of Shiva's first major-label effort, Take Me to the Mountains on Capitol (the first ever major-label release by an Austin band). The album is formidable, and its influence on the "galactic cowboy" genre was as great as, say, Love's Forever Changes was to the West Coast rock scene. It laid the groundwork for psychedelic twang and brought the world's attention to the creatively diverse (yet firmly rooted) music that was beginning to blossom back in those Texas heyday.

Harvey's merger with Tear Gas, a faltering rock band, was the smartest move of his career. With a heady mix of theatrics and driving rock, SAHB quickly made a name for themselves across England, releasing this album along the way. Harvey struts and yowls and gets raunchy (prefiguring the SAHBversion of "Delilah") while Zal Cleminson rips up the territory with some astounding guitar work. A great debut and a hell of a rock album.

In September, 1970 the band went into Electric Lady Studios in New York City to start recording their second album with famous engineer/producer Eddie Kramer at the helm. They were now signed with Warner Brothers, as Probe had folded, Kramer had worked with some of the top names in rock, such as Led Zeppelin and especially Jimi Hendrix, with whom Kramer had an extremely productive relationship. Going Back to Colorado was a great improvement over Zephyr being a more song-oriented and polished, while Zephyr offers more raw exposure to Tommy's guitar work.

Ellas McDaniel (aka Bo Diddley) was a true American original. One Way... Or Another was the second studio outing to feature the supergroup Cactus. Existing of Vanilla Fudge rhythm section Carmine Appice (drums) and Tim Bogert (bass), as well as former Amboy Dukes lead vocalist Rusty Day (vocals/mouth harp), and Jim McCarty (guitar) from Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels and the Buddy Miles Express.

The album offers eight tracks of which are six originals and two covers. Kicking off with one from the latter column, it's the unexpected slow and heavy take on Little Richard's Long Tall Sally.' The other cover, a version of Chuck Willis' Feel So Bad,' is more than serviceable but it's really the originals that are the stars of this show. Highlights are including Rock N' Roll Children,' Big Mama Boogie - Parts I & II,' and the title track, which closes the album in suitably kick-ass fashion.

This album is well crafted and flows dramatically from one song
to the other without a dull moment. Anyone with a liking for early
70's blues oriented rock will love this album.
