Corking compilation of hard to find and unreleased material by Brooklyn-based metal group Sannhet - all appearing on vinyl for the first time - who debut on Hospital Productions with the explorative dynamics and wordless but lyrically emotive
arrangements of Young Death.
At an edgeland juncture of post-rock, noise and metal, theirs might not be a sound that these ears are overly familiar with, but we can tell a great record when we hear one, and this is one of the strongest of its ilk to cross our paths this year.Rather than an album proper, the band and Hospital Productions have assembled a nine-part series of portraits of Sannhet's early phase, dating as far back as 2008 and right up to their debut album, Known Flood in 2013.
The A-side banks the escalating, thunderous post-rock/death metal force of their self-released Sannhet EP cassette of 2013, along with a more expansive, unreleased piece from the same session, whilst the B-side holds both parts of the Lion's Eye EP's pelting drama,
plus two unreleased pieces from 2008, a slowerengima of acousmatiuc samples and juggernaut post-rock surges, and the spirit rubbling noise attrition of Rapid Transit.

Pat M, with Pat Thomas (bass/vocals), Ryan Wong (guitar/vocals), and Alex Fleshman (drums), made their own celestial pilgrimage to their place of worship and have established themselves as one of the city's brightest young bands playing, against the backdrop of a chaotic big city, a laid-back psych-rock sound for the here and now.Those who fell for the raw, primitive sound of the band's 2014 album A Swirling Fire Burning Through the Rye recorded with local hero Tim Cohen of The Fresh & Onlys, will be pleasantly surprised by the Ghouls' latest evolution in sound. This time recorded with melodic maestro Kelley Stoltz in his backyard Electric Duck studio, the album was mixed and mastered by Mikey Young (Total Control / Eddy Current Suppression Ring), and features full-colour artwork by Shannon Shaw of Shannon and The Clams. Animal Races is the harvest of work we created between last year's tours, working in bars, record stores and coffee shops,' says Pat M. We chose the title because the song's lyrics are a broad characterization of society. So any track on the album, whether it be about love, personal growth, death or whatever, takes place in the setting of the 'animal races' ". Commenting just as much on the individual's place in society as the San Francisco community itself, the theories of 'self-actualization' and 'anima' by Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung about achieving individual potential pervade 'If I Can't Be The Man' and 'Material Love'. Whether time-hopping from the summer of love on 'Sunrise' or channelling the freewheeling feeling of The Grateful Dead and Canned Heat through loud guitars, acid riffs, party screams, and stacked-as-f*ck three-part vocal harmonies, each of Animal Races' 11 tracks bring the four-piece's electrifying live performances to life.'Time Capsule' is about exactly this, explains Pat T, when you replay a recorded track, that little chunk of time is brought into the current moment. This is especially true of a recording of a live performance. 'Time Capsule' was designed to open the door for improvisation and is the encapsulation of just one version of this song, each version specific to the one time we play it. 'Ambulance' sees The Amazing continue their journey to a place where music is free of restrictions. Despite reflecting Chris Gunrup's often bleak worldview, the music is expansive and beautiful, marked by playing that's as much free jazz as rock - pure music without any showiness. The songs unfold slowly, without a traditional verse / chorus structure, spinning gauzy webs of shimmering mystery with their own inimitable dynamic of sinuous, swirling guitars, rich, ambient basslines, crisp percussion and restrained, church-like, keyboard textures. The stately tempos suggest a room full of shadows desperately reaching out for intimacy but never quite making the connection. The songs brim over with tension and more implied release than actual relief. Gunrup is known for his reluctance to talk about his process and prefers to let the music speak for itself and if 2015's 'Picture You' was brighter, exploding outward to explore the limits of experience, 'Ambulance' is much more intimate. The mix denser and darker, the instruments pressing closer, crowding each other, imploding inward to reconnoitre the uncharted distances that exist between us, even in life's most intimate moments. Sharing members with Sweden's psych forefathers Dungen, the album delves into the hidden recesses of the heart, finding inner space to be just as expansive as the midnight sky. It was recorded in just a few days in one tiny room at Stockhom's Buller & Bäng studio. The Amazing's drummer, Moussa, is one of Sweden's top jazz drummers and has also played with Rodriguez and Jose Gonzalez. The video for lead track 'Ambulance' features Ross Marquand (AMC's 'The Walking Dead'). Previously the band have performed on The Late Show with David Letterman and toured with Tame Impala. Damit geht für die vielen Fans eine achtjährige Durststrecke zu Ende, denn der letzte Langspieler, "A Partial Print", erschien bereits 2008. Um die Zeit bis dahin etwas zu verkürzen, hat sich das Label Startracks dazu entschlossen, die ersten drei Tiger-Lou-Alben remastert neu zu veröffentlichen. Doch nicht nur das, sondern zudem als 250 Gramm schwere Deluxe-LP mit farbigem Vinyl. Da die Gesamtauflage von "Is My Head Still On" weltweit bei lediglich 300 Exemplaren liegt, und in Deutschland nur 100 der gelben LPs in den Handel kommen, sollte man hier schnell zugreifen. Wer noch eine Entscheidungshilfe benötigt. "Is My Head Still On" ist das Debüt der Einmannband Tiger Lou aus dem Jahr 2004. Allen, die nicht so in der Materie drinstecken, sei gesagt: "The Loyal" ist der zweite Langspieler der schwedischen Einmannband von 2005. Obwohl Kellerman zum Zeitpunkt der Veröffentlichung erst 24 Jahre alt war, hatte er sich zuvor mit seinem Debüt "Is My Head Still On" (2004) und unter dem Elektronikpop-Pseudonym ARAKI bereits einen Namen über die Grenzen Schwedens hinaus gemacht. Late in 2015, exactly ten years since Finders Keepers Records first liberated Jean Claude Vannier's 1973 French Holy Grail concept LP L'Enfant Assassin Des Mouches, the label was handed a very unexpected anniversary gift in the form of a small clutch of lost Vannier studio master tapes. Having worked closely with Jean Claude to leave no stone unturned both label and artist were shocked and delighted to be given what turned out to be further insights in to the musical ideas and ambitions of the 29-year-old composer during those mythical studio sessions which occurred a few months after the release of his seminal work on Histoire De Melody Nelson.

The original L'Enfant Assassin Des Mouches LP has been the source of inspiration and awe for artists of all disciplines, critics and connoisseurs alike while retaining a firm fixture in many a tome and top ten, accounting for indispensable moments in avant-garde pop and experimental rock music and (with FKs repressing schedule as testimony) continues to gain momentum. The fact that these masters were dubbed to a separate master tape as a proposed aborted major label single indicates that they were the first (and most exciting) tracks to emerge from the flamboyant visionary sessions which eventually trickled out on small independent French label stimulating record collector nirvana in the process.

Including new unheard instrumentation, alternative arrangements and mix board levels, this special limited release comes packaged in authentic 1970's promo bag artwork and marks the first in a series of new vintage Vannier projects extracted from a new vault of genuinely, previously 'lost' materials.

Lake Ruth was formed in 2015 by multi-instrumentalist Hewson Chen of The New Lines, drummer Matt Schulz (Holy Fuck, SAVAK, Enon) and vocalist Allison Brice, best known for her prior work with UK groups The Eighteenth Day of May and The Silver Abduction.

With a unique sound rooted in 1960s experimentation, the trio blends elements of baroque pop, pysch, kraut, jazz and electronic music - resulting in rhythmically propulsive tunes, rich with multilayered guitars, modular synths and atmospheric vocals. The nine songs of 'Actual Entity' are highly varied in style yet sonically cohesive, ranging from cinematic Italian soundscapes and post-C86 pop anthems to delicate English folk songs and extended motorik jams.

The album's title 'Actual Entity' is a reference to the Process Philosophy of Alfred North Whitehead, and alludes to the fluid nature of reality. It's songs are populated with a collection of marginal characters - the dispossessed, the isolated and the dead. An artificial intelligence losing its mind during an endless winter. A necromancer unable to raise the dead. The revolt of nature against industrialism. The ghost of a vengeful mother forever hunting down her daughter's murderer. A Victorian physician desperate to save a dying community.

After years of hard graft, releasing a number of thunderous and catchy songs, and constant touring supporting the likes of Slaves, Wolf Alice and Courtney Barnett, Spring King's journey has only just begun as they release their debut album Tell Me If You Like To. Max Jury is a piano playing singer songwriter from Des Moines, Iowa, who, at 23, is about to release one of the albums of the year. Over the past few years, Phoria have become known for their colourful, visually evocative soundscapes with the release of two EP's: 2013's 'Bloodworks' and 2014's 'Display'. Now, they're proud to announce their highly anticipated debut album 'Volition', out 3rd June on X Novo Records.

Phoria are headed up by the master of electronics and composition Trewin Howard, a deeply sensitive character in tune with his surroundings, empowered with synaesthesia and once afflicted with a mysterious - still undiagnosed - illness that left his senses frayed and mind on edge. When this illness ebbed, it left behind an even more heightened auditory perception, which he channels into the band's music. He is joined by two friends he has known all his life (guitarist Jeb Hardwick, piano/synth player Ed Sanderson) and two others (drummer Seryn Burden and bass/synth player Tim Douglas), whom he feels he has known forever.

Phoria start to make sense with this strong backbone and incredible bond in place. 'Volition' is bursting with vibrant sounds throughout, from the electronic washes of opener 'Melatonin', to the organic clicks and claps of 'Emanate', to the epic string section finale on 'Yourself Still', which brings a colourful parade to end the record.

A mere 34 years since the release of one of the landmark albums of the 80s, ABC return to the scene of their most resounding triumph with the May 27th release of 'The Lexicon Of Love II' on the Virgin EMI label. Sonically doffing its cap to the original, it features 10 brand new songs from the pen of ABC kingpin Martin Fry abetted by various musical cohorts. It might take a less innocent, more experienced view on affairs of the heart than its million selling predecessor, but it still concludes that all you need is love.

Foremost among Fry's collaborators on the new album is Academy Award winning musician and composer Anne Dudley, who arranged the strings on the original Lexicon; she has provided orchestral arrangements that give 'The Lexicon Of Love II' its signature sound, and has co written two of the key songs on the album: 'The Love Inside The Love' and 'Brighter Than The Sun'. Other songwriting partners include Grammy award winner Rob Fusari (Beyonce, Lady Gaga), film composer Charlie Mole and Marcus Vere. Production is by Gary Stevenson and Martin Fry. The video for the first single 'Viva Love' has been filmed by director Julien Temple in the Theatre Royal, Stratford East, the same venue where they shot the promo for 'Poison Arrow' in '82. Julien Temple went on to make a feature length movie starring ABC entitled 'Mantrap', released in '83.

London-based trio Pissinboy is one of those unclassificable bands that don't fit in any box and only feed from imagination and the joy of playing - their 2nd LP "Gentleman of Leisure" proves it yet another time.

It's not 60's Garage, not Post-Punk, not Psych-Pop, what is it then Singer-guitarist Andrea Pirovano's strong melodies and impeccable lyrics are the band's main weapons and drive the music. But with "Gentleman...,", the three boys take it one step further with more inventive arrangements and a rawer sound than in their previous LP "Emily". The diversity of moods in the songs also differenciates Pissinboy from most power-trios: one may recognize the danceable beat of Congolese Soukous in the title song "Gentleman Of Leisure" (no wonder all 3 bandmembers also play in l'Orchestre du Montplaisant), the fuzzy Bontempi organ on "Slums" could be a subtle tribute to legendary producer Joe Meek, and in "Bert is Dead", it's an obvious take on the Beach Boys' classic "Pet Sounds".

Songs about East London's day-to-day life, existential matters, or simply love and dispair, make "Gentleman...," a journey through life's beauty and ugliness. A perfect long-player for your afternoon tea - or to accompany your evening's first pint.

Unreleased version of  'You Don't Love Me' with Where Were You' on the B-side available on Gloria Jones' newly formed Light Of Love Wax Company label. Gloria has been working in Western Africa to build schools for Music and Film. Please support the cause through this limited release. The colors for the record were inspired by the New Jersey flag, the home state of the group.

Worth noting - this recording of You Don't Love Me is the original Venture Sound Studio Mix by engineer extraordinaire Tony Bongiovi - recording engineer on hits from Sinatra to Striesand. It features a guitar intro played by writer Robert Paladino that does not feature on the widely heard release. This is truly a one off!

Grammy Award-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Red Hot Chili Peppers return with the new single 'Dark Necessities' which is released around the world today.

The track is the first song to be released from the Los Angeles-based band's upcoming 11th studio album, 'The Getaway', due from Warner Bros. Records on June 17th. The album was produced by Danger Mouse and mixed by Nigel Godrich. Red Hot Chili Peppers' previous album, 'I'm With You', was released in 2011 and topped the charts in 18 countries.

One of the most successful acts in rock history, Red Hot Chili Peppers, which is singer Anthony Kiedis, bassist Flea, drummer Chad Smith, and guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, have sold more than 60 million albums, including five multi-platinum LPs, and won six Grammy Awards, including Best Rock Album for 'Stadium Arcadium', Best Rock Performance By a Duo or Group for 'Dani California', Best Rock Song for 'Scar Tissue', and Best Hard Rock Performance With Vocal for 'Give It Away'. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April 2012.

Blossoms brand new track 'Getaway' will be available to buy on 10" on 3rd June through Virgin EMI Records. The five-piece band from Stockport started 2016 by coming No.4 in the BBC Sound Poll. The new single, 'Getaway', follows on from the bands impressive EP 'At Most A Kiss' which went straight to No.1 in the iTunes chart. The title track from the EP was on the A-List at 6 Music as well as the B-List at Radio 1 and Absolute radio and the daytime playlist at Radio X.
The new song was recorded at Parr St. Studios in Liverpool with James Skelly and Rich Turvey. The single is Blossoms at their most majestic yet bittersweet - a pop song for the ages. 'Getaway' will also be available on 10' vinyl, which will include B-sides of 'On The Beach At Night' and the band's cover of 'In2' by WSTRN. Blossoms have just completed their biggest ever UK tour which included sold out shows at London's Scala and Manchester's Albert Hall. Vancouver-based rock band Hot Hot Heat is proud to present details on its forthcoming, and final overall, self-titled LP. Set to be released via Kaw-Liga Records on Friday, June 24, Hot Hot Heat is the sort of final album you'd expect from the band - one that is as pop hook-heavy as it is edgy and unpredictable. Today, Noisey premiered the first single from the album, "Kid Who Stays in the Picture," a song frontman Steve Bays penned about parting ways with a best friend as well as the importance of fighting to stay young at heart and holding on to your innocence for as long as you can.
Hot Hot Heat is a celebration of the fans who have supported the band throughout their successful career. It's the final release from a band that has innovated the indie rock scene since 2002, when they shook dance floors with the release of their explosive debut album Make Up The Breakdown via legendary Seattle-based label Sub Pop Records.

"To be able to tour from 1999 to 2014 and play hundreds of shows a year was amazing," Bays says. "It changed all of our lives. It was the greatest experience I could ever imagine. I can relate to our fans and I respect our fans. They are the kind of people I'd hang out with. I'm proud of every single record, and of finding the ground between making it challenging and fresh, but also not being afraid to be entertaining and put on a crazy show. Every show we ever did was just a total high energy spectacle and that's a great legacy to have."

Written between 2011 and 2014, Hot Hot Heat moves away from the experimental sensibility of 2010's Future Breeds and looks back to their first two albums for inspiration. The idea was to be as natural as possible and get in touch with their inherent skill for songwriting. After penning a batch of songs, the band gathered in 2014 to record the 10 best with Canadian musician and producer Ryan Dahle, who worked on Future Breeds.

"We wanted it to feel cohesive and representative of the aesthetic we were into at that point," says Bays, who co-produced the album with Dahle in their adjoining studios. "We wanted it to feel like it was all the same album even though it had been written over several years. The songs are the 10 songs we were the most excited about in the moment. The idea behind the album was: If you want to try and do something great, it can only be when the inspiration hits."

Sky Girl is a mysteriously unshakeable companion, a deeply melancholic and sentimental journey through folk-pop, new wave and art music micro presses that span 1961-1991. A seemingly disparate suite of selections of forgotten fables by more or less neverknowns, Sky Girl forms a beautifully coherent and utterly sublime whole deftly compiled by French collectors DJ Sundae and Julien Dechery. From Scott Seskind's adolescent musical road movie to Karen Marks' icy Oz-wave, the charming DIY storytelling of Italian-American go-getter Joe Tossini and the ethereal slow dance themes of Parisian artists Nini Raviolette and Hugo Weris, Sky Girl resonates on a wide spectrum historically, geographically and stylistically. It unites in a singular, longing, almost intangible ambience.

Then we realised we were pushing the envelope so got into the idea of a breaking point. If we broke it once, we can break it twice," says Bjorn. That's why the album artwork features a hammer with three heads on it, not just to strike your nightmares, but to send a message out to everyone. "It says 'We're back! We're smashing it!' Haha." The trio's previous record 'Gimme Some' was Peter Bjorn and John's "power pop, guitar statement", focused on recreating in the studio what they were confidently doing live. This time they wanted to do the total opposite. "This was about doing big pop songs," says Bjorn, who recalls sitting around listening to ABBA with his bandmates, marvelling at how they made it sound and look so easy.

2016 sees the return of Fear of Men with 'Fall Forever', an album that builds on the melodicism of their acclaimed debut album 'Loom' and takes it in a bold and modern direction, pushing the limits of their instruments to take on new and alien forms.
After extensively touring in support of their acclaimed debut album, Fear of Men decamped in the early months of 2015 to an outbuilding of a disused abattoir in rural Kent, England, to begin work on new material. A two hour bus ride from their native Brighton and a black hole for cell signal, such an environment was fitting for a band determined to strip their sound back to the bone and build it up to make an album that would, on their live return, make the stage shake.
On 'Fall Forever' Fear of Men twisted together sounds and influences from a variety of genres to create their own vision of a dark and modern pop record. Working with producer Tom Morris to gain clarity and presence, they focused on core sounds instead of layers, while still incorporating textures and details that can be discovered upon repeat listens.

We won't bore you with the specifics, but the fact that this release is finally seeing the light of day in the wake of the bands stunning 4th album 'Grievances' -their first full-length on Holy Roar - and coinciding with Holy Roar's ten year celebrations, seems somewhat fitting.
It was worth the effort though: this is an incredible documentation of both Rolo Tomassi's ongoing evolution and the continuing support of the BBC for such an innovative, daring band. Working in reverse-chronological order, the first four tracks (Howl, Old Mystics, Empiresk and Illuminare) are taken from the Radio 1 Rock Show, presented by Daniel P Carter, recorded early 2013. Three of these tracks were drawn from 2012's Astraea, along with the standalone, lesser known single 'Old Mystics'.
The latter five tracks are drawn from a session recorded for Huw Stephens back at the beginning of 2008. Drawing mostly upon material from early EPs and 7's, this session also includes an early version of 'I Love Turbulence', a full seven months prior to the release of 'Hysterics'.
All nine tracks were recorded live and mixed at the legendary BBC Maida Vale studios and mastered for this release by Brad Boatright (Converge, Sunn O)))). This is probably as pure and raw a representation of the many faces of Rolo Tomassi that you will hear.

In a cramped studio deep in Bushwick, New York City, You Am I hunkered down to make a start on their tenth studio album. In over two decades this band has gone from a (sometimes misspelled) name at the bottom of the bill at rock 'n' roll haunts in Sydney and Melbourne to being internationally renowned and locally influential standard bearers for rock 'n' roll as, to quote Lester Bangs, 'a raw wail from the bottom of the guts'.

Transcending the Australian music scene's trend-driven nature, You Am I have remained a steadfast component of the live scene and their ability to conjure excitement on-stage, whether playing in front of five or five thousand, is the stuff of legend.

Of course You Am I's early albums are much revered and regarded as important pieces of Australian rock 'n' roll culture, something their triumphant and spectacular two album show on the massive 'Hi Fi Daily Double' tour paid testament to.

So here we find the lads at Daptone Records in Brooklyn, standing in the hallowed, sweaty space known as the 'House of Soul', busting out tunes to 1inch tape just like they did over twenty years ago down the road on Greene St, SoHo where 'Hi Fi Way' came to life. Not a lot has changed since then, (except three are now four and have been for over fifteen years) there's still a lot of laughs, some drinks and a dedication to making music that rocks and rolls.
