Dekmantel Records
14.06.2017

Gigi Masin, Vakula and Roman Flügel line up on this first 10 Year Anniversary 12" for Dekmantel... 9 more of similar quality in the pipe. NOTE: Each EP comes in an unique full-color printed inner-sleeve, housed in a glossy outer-sleeve with logo punch out. Shinkwrapped, stickered and pressed on 180g vinyl. TIP!

Five years after their first event, Dekmantel Records saw the light of day. Over the course of 2017 the label will release ten EPs from artists that are close to their hearts; artists that have shaped Dekmantel into what it is today and producers who never fail to inspire them.

On this first EP in the series, Italian musician Gigi Masin makes his Dekmantel Records debut and delivers the first instalment, bringing his deep listening signature sound to the label: 'Maja' is a sublime and spaced-out juncture of jazzy ambient and foggy electronics. On the flip, the ever-brilliant Dekmantel family member Vakula delivers a Kraftwerk-esque house meets electro jam, while Roman Flügel tops things of with a springy and loose, asymmetric rhythm cut.

Derek Michael - Tunnels

Various Color pressing
I spent a lot of time crossing the Detroit/Windsor boarder tunnel. - My family lives half in the US and half in Canada and my father crossed daily for for work and materials. My brother and I would sit on old paint cans in the back of his work truck. long trips to home depot in the hopes that we could get a rally’s banana milkshake before heading home. - I hated that work truck, but we loved the trips, no matter how mundane. We would spend hours crossing that boarder tunnel when it was busy, our bottoms would hurt from the metal paint cans. When i was in high school i would smuggle cigarettes to sell to the Canadian kids, it was a good business. The dark tunnel in disrepair built over 90 years ago felt like a relic of the past, its leaky walls and pale yellow tiles were always crumbling around you. It was claustrophobic and uncomfortable. But the tunnel made your mind wander with thoughts of what was above you, giant cargo ships or sea monsters. It was an anxious place, the uncertainty of its structure or the dreaded boarder patrol on the other side. Would be be pulled in and searched? would the carton of camels i hid under the seat be found? - It was a special place and a special time. These sounds are about traffic and the movement and time in this strange tunnel.

Inkipak - Temporal Flux

Temporal Flux

Distant Worlds
01.08.2022

Distant Worlds continues its sonic missionary into 2022, going to places Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos can barely dream about. Captaining the ship for this voyage is the inimitable Inkipak, a true renaissance man for the ages. Steeped in the 90s aesthetic, his palette of sound branches together everything that made the golden era so special. Across 4 tracks of interstellar wonder and emotion, elements of acid intermingle with deep bass, killer breaks, beats and ghosts of IDM wizardry.

As we have come to expect from this label, the music impacts the mind as much as the feet, uniting armchair aficionados and dance-floor devotees alike. Artwork from the esteemed Eugenia Loli presents a perfect synesthesia to round off this marvellous release.

Jerome Hill - Flow Mechanics LP 2x12"

Jerome Hill

Flow Mechanics LP 2x12"

2x12inchHYPELP022NOCOVER
Hypercolour
26.10.2023

At the very coalface of the UK rave/breakbeat/techno/call it what you like scene since the 1990s, Jerome Hill is something of a hidden treasure amongst the plethora of DJs and producers to have dropped both bangers and bloopers over the ensuing three decades. With minimum of fuss and fanfare, Hill has steered record labels like Super Rhythm Trax, Don’t, Fat Hop and Hornsey Hardcore to revered acclaim, as well as firing out a consistent stream of releases for imprints such as Matthew Herbert’s Accidental Jr, Exalt Records, and I Love Acid, to name but a few.

Surprisingly, ‘Flow Mechanics’ is Hill’s debut album after a production career that kicked off in 1998 as one half of Groove Asylum. And its collection of unabashed acid and rave bangers is a perfect fit for the Hypercolour label, whose personnel over the last few years has included Luke Vibert, DMX Krew, Shelley Parker and Gary Gritness. Tracks produced directly for club play; the album features 8 cuts destined to fit in cross-genre sets.

With pumping electro cuts such as ‘Deafening Lull’ and ‘Knob Jitter’, four to the floor acid stompers like ‘Walk The Plank’, the mutant garage of ‘Brought Up Badly’ and the house groover ‘Stax Had The Funk’, ‘Flow Mechanics’ is a joyous romp through rave’s sound palette, replete with playful samples and skits (featured on the vinyl LP version), and a mischievous demeanour that affords the listener an lively album that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

DEAD MEMORIES - ZEN EP

ZEN EP

Subsist Records
17.11.2022

Melbourne based DJ & producer Dead Memories stands tall in the shadows, crafting his own blend of introspective techno with clear nods to Acid and IDM. Reigniting a once lost love with electronic dance music, the eclectic and enigmatic producer brings his unmistakable sound signature back to Subsist Records with a new 12 inch EP entitled ‘Zen’

A star in ascension and a masterful engineer, the Zen EP showcases his love and use of the classic machines used by the pioneers of house and techno. This is a release full of ambivalence, walking between hard and velvet, he treads these two opposites with a light hand and ingenuity, including all of the sonic nuance he is known for.

In his own words: ‘The idea behind Dead Memories was to strip everything back and work with only a few select machines. To challenge myself and see how far I could stretch these classic machines. After all, this is what the pioneers of early electronic music had to work with. In many cases, there was a drum machine, a synthesizer, a mixer, a recording device, and a couple of effects units, and maybe one compressor. They didn’t have the luxury of large studios full of gear, or endless collections of plugins, software, and samples. To me, a lot of the most exciting electronic music was written with these restrictions. That’s not to say that incredible tracks haven’t been made without these restrictions, but for me, this is what keeps me the most creative.’

On the A side of the release, Dead Memories is joined by one of his longtime influences and pioneering electronic producer Tobias. who provides his own take on his remix of ‘Zen 88’. The remix is a journey all unto itself. While staying true to the original, Tobias. provides a classic electro approach with all of the groove, shimmer and subtle movement he is known for.

Digital Karma EP

12.10.2023

The first in a string of 2023 releases from Liverpool based, Brent, comes in the form of four club-ready cuts. ‘Digital Karma’ opens with the nominal track – a dubby, 80’s riddled piece which sets the stall for the remainder of the record. With progressing melodies and an Edith Piaf cameo, it’s a colourful & creative way to start your engines. ‘Don’t Call the Doctor’ answers back as the most atypical house track of the four, taking a surprise twist in the form of rolling triplets and robotronic vocals. ‘Liquid Gold’ launches the B Side with a standout bassline/vocal combination which allows simplicity to do the talking. ‘SOM’ rounds off proceedings with a vocoder-led ode to Liverpool.
