Moderated Lies

12inchINFILTRATE07
Infiltrate
21.01.2021

Alex Jann comes to Infiltrate having already sown his febrile brand of electro around labels like Censor and Unknown To The Unknown. He's sounding fierce and fired up on "Moderated Lies", all slamming b-lines and strafing sound FX. "Least Resistance" is a slower, creepier number, while "Propeller" brings things back up to a seriously high tempo for the paciest electro spinners to get fresh with. "Logicphrenia" smacks somewhere in the middle, dropping the kind of hi-tech sound you'd expect from Silicon Scally. Classy stuff indeed.

BinaryFunction - 589.592 (Incl. Carl Finlow Remix)

With part 4 of the Astra Spectra series, we’re excited to have BinaryFunction showcasing three intense and dark electro cuts. The iconic Carl Finlow delivers a stunning remix of “We Will Destroy”

Pressed on a limited run of orange vinyl, the color and name of the EP correspond to Sodium on the Fraunhofer Absorption Spectrum of our sun.

Stefan Weise aka Syrte envisioned the “Astra Spectra” series as a celebration of mankind’s vision for space exploration, past and future, while also expressing a love for space science, science fiction and the spirit of discovery. Each release in the series is representative of a color frequency in our sun’s absorption spectrum and the element which is represented by that, hence the name, which means “Solar Spectrum”.

London Modular Alliance - Stray EP

London Modular Alliance make their CE debut with the 'Stray EP' for Cultivated Electronics Ltd (CE's vinyl-only sister label) in February. London Modular Alliance is a collective that lies somewhere between a shop and a cult. From their base in the former industrial warehouses of Hackney Wick, London Modular have been designing their own cases, working out practical ways of chaining multiple synths for live performance, selling units from their shop front, and taking themselves on the road to run workshops and gigs. From the lazer-lit confines of sweaty clubs to the hushed environs of Tate Britain and the V&A, they fill spaces with the whoosh and sweep of man co-operating with machine, bringing the dynamics of dance music to the ideals of modular synthesis, and forcing anyone with ears to acknowledge the potency of the format once more. With them, the sound of the future has returned. The EP includes three intricately crafted modular Electro tracks from LMA, featuring soaring melodies and dappled beats that manage to extract depth and soul out of machines, alongside a punchy remix by Sync 24 that delivers a tough metallic groove to close the release.

Freund der Familie - Panorama Mixes 10"

Whtie Vinyl

Freund der Familie invite Christopher Rau, Pole, Roger Gerressen and Van Bonn to remixes cuts from their 2018 ‘Panorama’ EP this February.
Leipzig, Germany’s Freund der Familie, the producer and label name, has long been respected in the world of raw, underground house and techno. The past decade has seen the founders Klaus Rakete & Mirko Hunger unveil a number of releases under the alias,
exploring a wide range of styles influenced by dub, leftfield electronica and much more.
Here the label revisits the ‘Panorama’ EP from a few years back, welcoming remixes from some esteemed artists in the industry.
Christopher Rau returns on remix duties following his take on Symbian for FDF005 and also FDFALFA01, this time round Rau delivers a hazy take on ‘PRS’ driven by raw analogue drums, woozy synths and winding subs. Dub master and Scape mastering head
honcho Pole steps up next with his take on ‘CRM’, delivering a typically intricate twist employing expansive swells, snappy percussion and swirling low end tones.
Irenic boss Roger Gerressen delivers his take on ‘PRS’ next, taking a more groove-driven feel with stripped-back drums, ethereal pad textures and crisp bass stabs before Van Bonn wraps up the package, reworking ‘CRM’ with a heavily swung drum groove,
menacing synth flutters and a dynamic, ever-evolving feel.

08.09.2020

Anz makes her Hessle Audio debut with a club-ready three track EP, following releases on the label by Pearson Sound and Pangaea in July. Lead track 'Loos In Twos (NRG)' goes turbo, with a ruffneck bassline, clattering breakbeats and dramatic rave stab breakdowns all combining to memorable, killer effect. On the B side, 'Gary Mission' gets loose with disorientating flanged FX and a wriggling low end, with the minimal beat track 'Stepper' using sharp vocal snippets and chest-rattling sub to light up the dance.

Anz is a DJ and Producer based in Manchester (via London, Liverpool and Madrid). Renowned for her genre-spanning productions and mixes, she unearths the links between Electro, UK Garage, Jungle and more, underpinning a versatile take on contemporary UK club music that is as bright as it is unpredictable.

Jeremy Hyman - FT048A

Jeremy Hyman steps up to FT with the first of two 12" EPs that are a coordinated blast of colorful, galaxy-edge plastic techno from the master percussionist who moonlights in Lifted, Boredoms, Animal Collective, and more. Always rhythmatic in exciting ways, Hyman's drum programming here is more arms than buttons, injecting a fly human element in the 12". "Slide" does what it says with amazing technoid bass work and a propulsive sense of timing, "Madness" hovers and falls and hovers again, and "Tinted Mirror" is some sort of Foodman-meets-Prescription-Records house symphony, rising and rising and rising. Tip!

Various - Unseen Forces

Society is shaped by its history, stories that have evolved over time and held to be true. Stories of the imagination, stories from the ill-informed, stories conjured by favored subjects, but all loosely wrapped in the truth. Systems such as morals, religion, politics, and a culture are powerful enough to influence the mind of one and the minds of many and therefore direct the evolution of the species. Unseen Forces is a conceptual work that dissects this idea. A collection of four songs cause the listener to re-examine not only what they believed to be real and true but also why. Side A dives head first into testing your belief system by introducing the first stage of influence - Disruption and Experimentation. Introducing a simple question into the belief system that cannot be answered and observing the result. The Disruptor - subtle but powerful making its point with eerie, off center synth lines, and synthesized drums. Driving a wedge between the listener and the comfort of familiarity. Dr. Blowfin's Experiment - a long time and highly revered classic previously released on SID, continues to re-evaluate beliefs with modifications to the original. The question of why is still unanswered. Beliefs are broken and chaos ensues. Side B begins to take direct the chaos with another classic - Crossphaze - injecting live funk and modulated filters with this flexible floor mover previously released on Accelerate. Crossing into another realm unfamiliar to the listener as new beliefs are formed. Deconstructing the Immortals - leaves the listener with no other choice but to eagerly leave their old world behind and everything they know in ruins. This offbeat and mesmerizing anthem makes the question of why unimportant, because the answer is what now.

IMOGEN & Ben Pest - Volts

pink vinyl
Our next release, and now long-awaited, is a collaboration between IMOGEN and Ben Pest. This follows IMOGEN's earlier appearance on Earwiggle which was a highlight of the Eel Behaviour series. We're big fans of Ben Pest and are very pleased to have the pair debuting their first full release together on the label.

From the hyperactive opener "Volts", that effortlessly juggles raw analogue techno with UK hardcore and all manner of rude bass wobbles, they soon delve into further chaos through the squawks and clatters of broken industrial cut "Gramalkin". "Shibooty" is a perky take on Chi-town techno, upping the funk levels through bustling shuffled 909s, humming bass and cartoonish vocal sequences. With the brooding acid electro of "Misjudgement Day", IMOGEN and Ben pile on some extra modular drones for the road, finishing off the EP in killer fashion.

Principia Audiomatica - Re-Information

With the Winter months well and truly established, the skies of Madrid have turned from eggshell blue to metallic grey. Frigio reflects this change in the seasons with its latest release, the glazed reductions and retrospections of Principia Audiomatica. The Croatian outfit were founded in 1995 by Siniša Ocuršcak and Miljenko Rajakovic, their musical partnership ending with the untimely death of Ocuršcak. In 2010 Rajakovic restarted the project with renewed zeal and 2 tracks at A side feature Bernarda Barlović. The style pursued for this seven track 12” lies between industrially tinted electro and blackened wave. Cold and brutal in one breath, warm and yearning in the next, the EP draws on a spread of influences to create texture and tone. A gulf of sounds is explored: from ghosting samples, looming lines and incising snares to dreamy and understated atmospherics. The flip is remix focused. Taken from the 2017 album of the same name, “Distorted Information” is the source material with the Hal9000 computer being a common component of all three interpretations. Snippets from the Kubrik’s film orbit, from the brooding remake by Asprin for Oslo and the staggered steps of Alert Command to the glitched funk care of Red Sector A. Dark electronics for questionable times.

SAFE TRIP
04.07.2019

The history of underground electronic music is littered with inspired releases that, for one reason or other, have slipped through the cracks. It would be fair to say that Trans4m’s 1992 debut album, Sublunar Oracles, is one such release.

Composed and produced by Antwerp-based brothers Stefan and Dimitri Van Elsen over a four-year period, the album was all but ignored on its initial release despite offering a glassy-eyed, spacey fusion of sample-heavy ambient house, electronic mysticism, saucer-eyed horizontal positivity and languid trip-hop style grooves.

For the Safe Trip edition, the in-demand album’s eight tracks have been lovingly re-mastered and stretched across two heavyweight slabs of wax.

Brainwaltzera - Epi-log Ep

Brainwaltzera

Epi-log Ep

12inchFILM012
Film
21.01.2019

Brainwaltzera returns to FILM. The shrouded producer continues to demonstrate a breadth of skill as both a musician and engineer, with another collection of deep and textured recordings for the FILM label, intended as an Epi-Log' to the artist's debut album Poly-Ana. Continuing the exploration of crystalline IDM, proto-Electro, Ambient and other curious strains of left-field music, Brainwaltzera looks out across a colourful and varied sonic landscape, drawing on a wealth of classic influences all the while maintaining that unique and instantly recognisable finish. Low slung 4/4 opener Triangulate Dither (fairytall Version) hinges on fathoms deep synth work, moving about a playful hook that operates in stark contrast to the track's heavy, tape distorted finish. Laif Of Smit touches on new territory - a nod to contemporary Beats production, complete with pitch shifted vocal and heady, warping bassline - before beatless recording (take 2) brings the listener back into a more familiar space: a beautiful ambient segue reminiscent of the producer's earlier productions on the label. Countdempops showcases Brainwaltzera's simple yet effective drum work - a perfectly executed, emotive cut centred around a dusty break. Bad Endgar focuses more on the high frequencies - a crisp, clean Electro production, featuring those signature sliding synths now a characteristic of the producer's music. Uptempo closer Dropp on Gminor rounds off the EP with a kind of Folk meets Footwork piece that lifts the record's final notes into a tentatively more euphoric state. Heavy on atmosphere, rich in inherent musicality and beautifully executed - the Brainwaltzera journey continues with another solid offering on the FILM label.
