Fans of UK Techno and Electronic music should need little introduction to Steven Rutter.

Widely regarded as one of the originators who helped spawn an entire scene in the early 90s, there’s no mistaking his place as one half of the legendary Warp Records act B12. Or that of his other guises such as 2001, Cmetric, Infamix, Musicology and Redcell, which all made up part of the rich tapestry of the hugely influential B12 Recordings.

In 2016, Steven started a whole new chapter by launching Firescope Records. Over the past few years, the label has gone from strength to strength - releasing music from the likes of Morphology, Derek Carr, John Shima, Russ Gabriel, Darren Nye as well as plenty of new material by Steve himself.

‘Light From The Dark’ EP is a two sided Limited Edition 7” that captures Rutter’s innate ability to knit deeply spatial sonic tapestries. Side A track ‘In The Darkness’ delves into the depths of semi-consciousness and all that we can feel in the half lit hours. Like an impression taken from a half woke sleepy state, he moulds cyclical low end rumbling with fluid rhythmical pulses that in turn give way to brief moments of light and melody. Mirroring the moments we pass in and out of consciousness.

Accompanied by the “The Sands of Time” on Side B, the music takes a gentler path as Rutter leans towards the light, soft rhythms swaying among delicate FM pulsations and patches of airy melody. The warm aesthetics furrow straight from his soul and leave you in doubt that more than two decades on, Rutter continues to be a musical inspiration to generations of Electronic music lovers across the globe.

First release of 2022 on the label is a solid deep techno split EP by italian artist Hoedus and Japanese Iori.

Leipzig's Freund der Familie has established itself as a driving force in the world of contemporary dub techno over the past decade, releasing material from the likes of Sven Weisemann, YWF, S.Channel and label bosses FDF amongst others. Here the imprint continues its Grau series with more dub leaning electronic cuts.
'Margin' opens the release and lays down pulsating subs, cavernous hats and expansive chords across six minutes with processed dub vocals ebbing and flowing throughout. 'Scope' follows next and embraces a more off-killer feel with choppy stab sequences, menacing bass flutters and spiralling, dubbed-out spoken word.
'Limbic' opens the second part of the package, bringing ethereal atmospherics and shuffled percussion into focus atop weighty muted kicks and snaking subs. Last up to round out the release is 'Utils', bringing a bumpy broken beat and swaying dub chords into the mix while intricate delays and hypnotic vocal chants unfold within.

A repress here of 2019's under the radar 'Box EP by The enigmatic British producer JS Zeiter, who executed more greyscale dub techno excursions of a typically high caliber on this one. After some spookily sensual ASMR action on intro 'The Code' he continues to build the suspense on the beatless Subarctic Soundscape of 'Darkness Falls' before dropping the power on the cavernous and glacial beats of 'On The Moor'. Flip over and take on more of the frozen seascape on the deeply hypnotic groove of "Empty" before one more emotional ambient outro in the form of 'Endgame'.

2006 – 2021: 15 years Bondage-Music - it is about harnessing those great moments and spiritual experiences from the dance floor.

This compilation features music from artists like Nima Gorji, James Dexter, NTFO, Politics Of Dancing, Steve Bug, Markus Homm, Mihai Popoviciu, Dilby & Pornbugs, Dejbali, Dust Yard, Alex Ranerro and Sascha Dive.

Zwen makes a strong impression as they circumnavigate the stars to impart their strain of machine music. This first release on Trapid has little to no reference point, placing all the focus on the tunes contained within. "Space Zone" aptly launches this mission in a muscular fashion with a hefty kick and some strafing synth blasts, while "Etching" gets tangled up in a more tightly wound loop with a raw, deliciously early 90s finish. "Restriction" keeps things stripped back, but it's certainly still orbiting the same quadrant as the other tracks. "Trapid" switches focus by embracing a more dub techno-informed approach, and Zwen does a masterful job of capturing that vibe too.

On the A side we have the Swiss techno sensation Idealist delivering an after-hours dancefloor essential, while Ben Buitendijk bring the tempo down into a meditative chillout extravaganza. On the B side the Israeli producer Dot offers an engaging atmospheric dub version of the track, while Thule/ae Recordings regulars Thor & Octal Industries join hands in deliver a no-nonsense Icelandic dub techno banger.

Om Unit's highly-praised best-selling Album 'Acid Dub Studies' gets the remix treatment from some of his favourite artists working the left-field side of the dub stratosphere.

This is rare meeting of minds with the double LP featuring 2 mixes from Bristol's legendary Dubkasm, a remix from Seekersinternational (A former collaborator via Berceuse Heroique) evergreen Canadian dub techno stalwart (and recent collaborator via Midnight Shift) namely Deadbeat and top it off we have Echospace Detroit co-founder Stephen Hitchell stepping up with 2 mixes as CV313 as well as 1 much more hazed out version under his Variant alias.

Acid Dub Versions is the next step on a journey of exploring the endless possibilities available when forces combine inside the echo chamber.

Conforce returns to Bright Sounds for this second outing on the label. The ever prolific Boris Bunnik finds on Bright Sounds the perfect homebase for his more drifting dub techno sounds. Four powerful works aimed for the late night floors, atmospheric as ever but this time more energy arises from propelling deep driving grooves with a jacking touch. It's the first outing of his Conforce guise in the year 2022 and it shows an exciting wild side that's ready to dance.

Long running Techno label Don’t kicks off their 22nd year with a really big one!

Serbian Techno artist LAG has always had a very distinctive style and here he makes his Don’t debut with a 4 track EP that builds impressively on that existing sound resulting in an inspired whirlwind of colour!
Sounds like: Explosive 2-Step Techno with dub flourishes topped by a wicked energy.

These tracks have been tearing up discerning dance floors in the hands of LAG and label owner Jerome Hill, with ‘Znoj’ also being featured on OBJEKT’s much lauded 2020 Essential Mix. So, with testing completed it's time for a deserved release on Vinyl and Digital with full artwork sleeve by Atact.uk!

Bendersnatch, kicks things off with a ‘Homage’ fitting of the mainstay venue paying reverence to the classic Detroit Techno sound. ADMN’s Machine 8 shows a lust for a bass grind synonymous with the engines machined in the halls of its urban decay. Remote Viewing Party’s minimal break ‘fuxwiddit’ whistles echo to us through the warehouse former machine shops. Maxlow makes sure you ‘heard’ what they must say pushing air from the subs ensuring you feel the room.

OHM Series continues to round up some of the best and the brightest within the dub techno scene.
Side A begins with Federsen, a renowned American dub techno producer. He delivers a fragile deep techno journey with hazy dub influence, which is both meditative and intriguing. Following up is the Dutch techno producer extraordinaire Roger Gerressen with his signature raw and stripped hypnotic dub techno.
The flipside begins with grad_u, label owner at Greyscale/Redscale Records. His contribution is atmosphering, yet thumping at the same time. It‘s a dub techno experience, reminiscing of Basic Channel & Chain Reaction. Merv, the well-established Danish techno duo, brings the release through the finishing line with a powerful homage to Detroit techno. It‘s an enigmatic and energy-driven voyage – solidifying the label‘s second offering. OHM Series is the brainchild of the establised Copenhagen-based techno artist OHM (Bjarnar Jónsson) and was founded in 2021.

The follow-up compilation from the 10-year celebration back in 2017 continues along with the same energy that Smokin' Sessions are so well known for, offering floaty and uplifting productions with detailed beat work, along with that all-important heavy serving of lower frequencies.


We hear some absolute classics from names such as Djrum, Geode, Versa & Rowl, Escapism Refuge, Occult, Mercy, and some newcomers to the label in the form of Marenn Sukie & Synpal. There are 5 exclusive, unreleased tracks in total. 2 stunners from Synkro, 1 from Biome, and another 2 from Synpal. Some seriously impressive productions throughout.
