Das siebte Studioalbum der kanadischen Punks Sum 41, Order in Decline, hat weltweit die Charts angeführt und Platz 2 erreicht: OCC Rock & Metal & US Hard Rock + #9 der Offiziellen Top 100 in Deutschland & #13 der kanadischen Billboard Charts. Das Album enthält die Lieblingssongs der Fans ,Out For Blood", ,Never There" und ,Catching Fire". So klingt ein rockiger Gefühlsausbruch: »Order In Decline« von Sum 41 ist laut, rau, mitreißend, intensiv. Besser geht's nicht. Sum 41 legten 2019 das härteste und aggressivste Werk ihrer Karriere vor. der damals siebte Longplayerder Kanadier war der Nachfolger von »13 Voices« aus 2016. Schon die erste Singleauskopplung, »Out For Blood«, sprach für ein ein absolutes Brett von einem Album. Punk, Rock, Alternative Metal - irgendwo dazwischen haben Deryck Whibley und Co. die perfekte Mitte gefunden. Die übrigen neun Songs von »Order In Decline« bestätigen das. Kerrang! bewertet das Album mit 4/5 Ks und schreibt: ,Insgesamt ist es das härteste und schwerste Album, das sie je gemacht haben, und auf den 10 Tracks sind Sum 41 auch am kreativsten und bereit, ihre Grenzen auszuloten." "May Our Chambers Be Full" bewegt sich sowohl musikalisch als auch thematisch auf einer ähnlichen, sehr feinen Linie. Während das Solo-Material von Emma Ruth Rundle eine Mischung aus Post-Rock und Folk ist und Thou typischerweise für ihre heruntergekommene, doomige Schlammschlacke bekannt sind, hat die Verbindung der beiden eine Platte geschaffen, die mehr in die Richtung des Seattle-Grunge-Sounds und dem davon beeinflussten Alternative Rock aus den 1990er Jahren geht, wobei die Kernidentitäten der KünstlerInnen weitgehend erhalten geblieben sind. Having thrived throughout the underground realms for the last ten years, Question built a respectable body of work displaying a sound meeting constant progression, a vision sharpened and perfected with each output. The Nefilim gründeten sich 1992 und entwickelten sich nach der Zersplitterung von Fields Of The Nephilim. 1996 wurde das einzige Nefilim-Album mit dem Namen "Zoon" veröffentlicht. Sänger Carl McCoy verbrachte vier Jahre damit, seine Vision zu verfolgen und schuf einen akustischen Angriff auf die Sinne. Triumph And Power« will turn out to be another victory in GRAND MAGUS’ history! GRAND MAGUS was founded by JB Christofferson (vocals/guitars) and Mats “Fox” Skinner (bass) in 1996. Two years later, Fredrik “Trisse” Liefvendahl joined in on the drums and the first two demos were released. In November of 2001 the self-titled debut album – obviously inspired by the late creative period of bands such as BLACK SABBATH or DEEP PURPLE - was published on the European and US market. »Monument« (2003) and »Wolf’s Return« (2005) followed, receiving but praiseful press reactions. Catch 22", released in 2002 was the eighth album of melodic death titans HYPOCRISY and a fairly controversial one shifting from brutal vocals to a more melodic, at times punkish clean style, and compositions that venture forth from pure metal. Scions are a new innovative experimental ensemble. The group features members from the award-winning minimalist chamber-jazz quartet New Hermitage, the Polaris-nominated drone-hymn duo Joyful Joyful, and the acclaimed producer and composer Michael Cloud Duguay. Their collaboration began at the Sappyfest music festival in Sackville, New Brunswick, in August 2022. During this event, New Hermitage and Joyful Joyful connected for the first time and teamed up with Duguay for a spontaneous improvisational performance based on his song writing. The enthusiastic response, capped by a standing ovation, solidified the ensemble's decision to pursue the project further, with Duguay deftly shifting from front-person to producer and musical director. After being awarded a Canada Council project grant in early 2023 the group took residence in Hotel Wolfe Island on Wolfe Island. Over a week the seven core members lived and worked together, culling material from sunrise improv sessions and collaboratively shaping it into a unique body of work that would later become To Cry Out In The Wilderness. In June 2023, the ensemble, now joined by double bassist Gabriella Ciurcovich, recorded their debut album in Halifax’s north end. Led by Duguay’s distinctive approach to site-specific production, the recording took place in the sanctuary of St. George’s Round Church, with engineering by Jake Nicoll, known for his sustainable recording methods using a solar-powered, mobile control room. The resulting album, To Cry Out In The Wilderness, finds the ensemble expertly exploring and powerfully combining their skills in jazz, devotional, classical, drone, folk, ambient, metal, improvisational, minimalist and avant-garde music. The project culminated in a week of production, with contributions from numerous artists from Halifax’s creative music community. Scions then presented their work live, performing on the opening night of Halifax’s Everyseeker festival of experimental music, where they shared the spotlight with the renowned Sun Ra Arkestra. Speaking on the narrative of To Cry Out In The Wilderness vocalist and lyricist Cormac Culkeen said: "When we came together to make this body of work, we started from a narrative seed; a post-apocalyptic humanity relearning and recreating itself, after a total ecological collapse." Speaking on "Fight Song" they add, "“Fight Song” became the song we thought the last of us might need. It is sung for an imagined last stand. It is a rallying cry to wholeheartedly fight a losing battle. So it is for us now, in this time of great dismay and unease. The axe must be disobeyed.

12 years after their debut release, Klone, hailing from central France, are back with their 6th studio effort: Here Comes The Sun shows a mature rock band whose musical universe has expanded over the years. When you take a closer look at the band's discography, their progress appears like a logical evolution: each album is unique, and each one has served to make the follow-up less predictable. This time, the bandreally gives each melody time to unfold... and this is where the strength of this album lies: coherence, patience, continuity. The transitions between riffs and songs never feel rushed or forced -- everything is happening at the right time, and for a reason. The music, the lyrics and the artwork reflect upon one another, and suck the listener into a universe revolving around the sun, which is the central theme of the album. With Here Comes The Sun, the band's songwriting, led by the charismatic voice of Yann Ligner, has reached the next level. The Fluid are arguably the great unsung band from the fertile underground rock scene of the late '80s and early '90s. The Denver five-piece - John Robinson (vocals), James Clower (guitar), Matt Bischoff (bass), Garrett Shavlik (drums), and the dear departed Ricky Kulwicki (guitar) - fused the fire of '80s hardcore with crunching Detroit protopunk, '60s garage rock, and '70s rock swagger. Think MC5, Faces, '70s Stones, all cranked up and really high on Sex Pistols and Black Flag singles. Rising from the ashes of early-'80s Denver bands Frantix (whose "My Dad's a Fuckin' Alcoholic" is a true gem of American punk) and White Trash, The Fluid were the first non-Seattle band to sign to Sub Pop, and Clear Black Paper was the second full-length album the label ever released. The label honchos were fans of Frantix, and happily got involved with The Fluid when the opportunity arose via the label's European licensing partner, Glitterhouse. Witnessing The Fluid's dominant live presence helped - a particularly fiery early show at Seattle's Central Tavern featured The Fluid, Mudhoney, Mother Love Bone, and Soundgarden all trying to outdo one another on stage. The band fit right in on Sub Pop's nascent roster of acts who, wherever they stood on the spectrum of punk/rock/metal, shared a commitment to thunderous riffs and explosive live shows. Legendary for their ferocious stage presence, The Fluid toured all over the US and Europe, holding their own and then some on bills with Mudhoney, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Dinosaur Jr., and other powerhouses of the era. From 1986 to 1993, The Fluid put out four albums and a number of EPs and singles, including a split 7" with Nirvana in 1991, before doing one album for a major label and promptly disbanding. Yet, while their partners-in-crime bulldozed into the mainstream, The Fluid remained something of a cult band, their audience confined to those who got hip during the band's existence, and crate diggers who nabbed original vinyl or CDs, which had quickly become rarities after selling through their original runs. Why? Record industry machinations? The fickle finger of pop culture? Being from Denver, not Seattle? Who the hell knows_ and who cares! The point is the band ripped, and the world deserves to hear them again. The Fluid took influences they shared with their contemporaries and ran in their own direction, focused on ass-shaking grooves more than misanthropic sludge. Rock anthems like "Cold Outside" sit alongside Stooge-oid rhythmic poundings ("Black Glove"), bluesy romps ("Leave It"), the occasional grungy dirge ("Wasted Time"), and raw punk bangers ("Is It Day I'm Seeing?" from the seminal 1988 Sub Pop 200 compilation). The band wasn't shy about their inspiration, either: scattered through their catalog are covers of The Troggs, The Rolling Stones, MC5, Iggy Pop and James Williamson, and Rare Earth. The Fluid stand out as champions of a feral, urgent, exuberant approach to rock 'n roll. As it turns out, that wasn't a recipe for stardom in the era of hyper-slick pop, boomer dinosaurs crying tears in heaven, and hair-metal power-ballads. But someone had to do it. 'Distorted Clamor', the latest full-length album from legendary Spanish ambient composer Suso Saiz. Marking his eighth release with our label, the album showcases Saiz at his spellbinding best, continuing a prolific creative phase in a career that spans over 40 years.

Building upon 'Resonant Bodies' and 'Nothing Is Objective', his most recent full length releases for Music From Memory, Saiz's dedication to experimentation and conceptual approach to sound lie at the centre of 'Distorted Clamor'.

Discussing his process and the concept behind the album, Saiz says: “Thousands of beings cry out for their lives, for the sustainability of their habitats, for their future. Their

clamouring together generates a distorted, deafening and incomprehensible noise. Trying to go deeper into that distortion and understand all the voices and discover the strength and beauty in all of them. This was the first image I had when I started composing Distorted Clamor. Can distortion and all those sounds (clicks, clips, ticks, tocs, pluks, crashes) that we normally discard, generate beauty? This question has also accompanied the entire whole project.”

The transit of sound through various materials is also central to the work, with Saiz using water, wood, and metals as filters and sound-transforming pedals. The album was created without the use of synthesizers, relying entirely on acoustic sounds that were transformed in an unnatural way to achieve something completely new.

Spanning eleven compositions, Saiz's mastery of timbre and ability to paint layers of sound with the subtlest of touches stand out unmistakably to the listener. As always, his radiant drones are a nest of hidden feelings; they glisten with complex emotions and textures, teasing out moods of vulnerability and hope.

Repertoire presents the Thieves EP, marking Modal’s debut vinyl release on the label. This four-track collection features collaborations with Jaise—celebrated for his work with Metalheadz—and Double O of Rupture LDN, bringing together a range of styles that showcase Modal’s artistry.

Opening with the title track, "Thieves" sets a dark, intense tone with a pounding beat that utilises the classic Tighten Up break to great effect. Double O’s remix of "Thieves" brings a heavy amen jungle twist. "This current conflict is just 500 miles away from Berlin, and while that does not make it more horrific than other wars, it is very close to home. From living with this 'war next door,' the album turned out much more sinister than originally planned. It became a rather political album that reflects on the senselessness and nastiness of all the current wars around us. It's always the innocent and those who hold no power that suffer the most. Their fate isn't always death, but many times indescribable and long-term suffering. We must not forget them or turn a blind eye. In 2003 Jason McCash took over the bass duties and was a long-time member of the band until his untimely demise in 2014, after which Simon decided it was time to call it quits. That was until 2019 when the renowned metal festival Hell Over Hammaburg wanted to bring the band back on stage to perform at the festival’s 2020 edition. Simon reformed the band with its original member Chuck Brown on drums and Steve Janiak on bass and got back to work. “We’d been asked several times to play Hell Over Hammaburg. But there was no “we” to play. The germ of the idea started. We started re-learning songs from the first LP. It wasn’t too long into the rehearsals that we started coming up with new songs.”, states Simon. After a reunion tour was finished, Covid kicked in to slow down the process. Song titles such as "Jesus Hitler", "Race War", "Thermonuclear Warrior" and "God is Dead" reflect these themes. Als Malédiction 2001 ihr Album „Condamnés“ bei Brennus Music herausbrachte (damals ausschließlich auf CD), waren die Reaktionen der Medien und des harten Kerns der Fans begeistert. Da jedoch der traditionelle Heavy Metal zu Beginn des neuen Jahrtausends eine schwierige Phase durchlief, erhielt die Band nie die Anerkennung, die sie verdient hätte, und löste sich einige Jahre später nach dem zweiten Album „Esclave Du Vice“ (2004) auf. Die aus dem nordfranzösischen Laon stammenden Sylvain Mollard (Gitarre/Gesang), Mathieu Poulain (Gitarre), Olivier Messaoui (Bass) und Nicolas Mollard (Schlagzeug) fanden sich ursprünglich im September 1997 zusammen. Anfangs mit einem Repertoire von Coverversionen von Megadeth, Judas Priest und Iron Maiden, konzentrierten sie sich bald auf das Schreiben von eigenem Material (gesungen auf Französisch). Im November desselben Jahres nahmen die vier in aller Eile (während einer zweitägigen Session) ihr erstes Demotape auf, das aus fünf Titeln bestand. Angespornt durch die positiven Reaktionen der Musikpresse beschlossen Malédiction, die fünf Songs des Demotapes zwischen dem 15. und 24. Januar 2021 im Studio Val D'Orge neu aufzunehmen. Zwei brandneue Eigenkompositionen sowie eine Coverversion von „Les Enfants De L'Ombre“ (von ADX) wurden hinzugefügt, und das französische Label Brennus Music entschied sich folgerichtig, das Album auf Compact Disc zu veröffentlichen. Musikalisch stehen Songs wie „Le Fils De Satan“, „Le Masque De Fer“ oder „L'Ange Noir“ in der Tradition von Blasphème, Sortilège oder eben ADX. Das Material fällt in die Kategorie Mid-Tempo Heavy Metal, mit galoppierenden Riffs und eingängigen Melodien. Sänger Sylvain Mollard macht mit seinem melodischen Gesangsstil einen wirklich guten Job, ebenso wie Lead-Gitarrist Mathieu Poulain, der ganz offensichtlich viel Randy Rhoads gehört hatte, bevor er das Aufnahmestudio betrat. Leider löste sich die vielversprechende Band irgendwann in der zweiten Hälfte der 2000er Jahre aus Frustration über die mangelnde öffentliche Unterstützung und die fehlende Unterstützung durch das Label auf. Zwei brandneue Eigenkompositionen sowie eine Coverversion von „Les Enfants De L'Ombre“ (von ADX) wurden hinzugefügt, und das französische Label Brennus Music entschied sich folgerichtig, das Album auf Compact Disc zu veröffentlichen. Musikalisch stehen Songs wie „Le Fils De Satan“, „Le Masque De Fer“ oder „L'Ange Noir“ in der Tradition von Blasphème, Sortilège oder eben ADX. Das Material fällt in die Kategorie Mid-Tempo Heavy Metal, mit galoppierenden Riffs und eingängigen Melodien. Sänger Sylvain Mollard macht mit seinem melodischen Gesangsstil einen wirklich guten Job, ebenso wie Lead-Gitarrist Mathieu Poulain, der ganz offensichtlich viel Randy Rhoads gehört hatte, bevor er das Aufnahmestudio betrat. Leider löste sich die vielversprechende Band irgendwann in der zweiten Hälfte der 2000er Jahre aus Frustration über die mangelnde öffentliche Unterstützung und die fehlende Unterstützung durch das Label auf. Nun ist High Roller stolz darauf, die ultimative Ausgabe dieses unentdeckten französischen Metal-Juwels zu präsentieren. „Condamnés“ steht sicherlich auf einer Stufe mit den besten Werken von Bands wie Sortilège, Killers, Attentat Rock oder High Power.

Weniger hektische Kompositionen wie „Tornado“, „Ravenous Medicine“ oder „Killing Technology“ hoben die Kanadier schnell von ihren Thrash-Zeitgenossen ab. „Rrröööaaarrr„ haben wir mit unserem Tontechniker in einer heruntergekommenen Schule ohne Geld selbst produziert“, erklärt Michael Langevin in dem Buch „Damn The Machine. The Story Of Noise Records“ des amerikanischen Autors David E. Gehlke. „Plötzlich hatten wir ein professionelles Umfeld, ein richtiges Studio mit einem richtigen Produzenten und ein Label, das die Finanzierung sicherstellte. Es ging Schritt für Schritt. Für „Killing Technology“ haben wir vielleicht ein bisschen langsamer gemacht. Wir konnten die Rollen spielen, und es hat viel Abwechslung. Es ist mein Lieblingsalbum und in meinen Ohren die perfekte Mischung aus Thrash, Prog und Hardcore. Es ist definitiv ein entscheidendes Album.“

DERO GOI kehrt mit einem Paukenschlag zurück! Der ehemalige OOMPH!-Frontmann liefert mit "1984" ein bis zum Rand mit Synthie-Hits vollgepacktes Doppelalbum ab. Das Debüt seiner Solo-Karriere ist zugleich sowohl in musikalischer als auch lyrischer Hinsicht ein starkes Statement zu seiner künftigen Ausrichtung als Künstler. "1984" bietet eine faszinierende Verschmelzung von feinen Retro-Synth-Sounds, EBM und Synth-Wave mit zeitgenössischen elektronischen Elementen, die sogar mit einer Prise seines früheren Lebens als Rock- und Metal-Musiker gewürzt ist. Dazu gehören leider auch massive Hindernisse bei der Suche nach einem Label und einem Booking-Agenten. Zudem musste der Künstler erleben, dass bereits bestätigte Konzerte nur aufgrund seiner Meinung wieder abgesagt wurden. Das wirft die unbequeme Frage auf: Wie tolerant ist eigentlich eine Szene, die sich rühmt, für jede Gesellschaftsschicht und jeden Lebensstil offen zu sein, wenn diese Werte einer kritischen Probe unterzogen werden? Natürlich haben auch Worte Konsequenzen und jede Freiheit hat ihre Grenzen, aber was ist mit einem Künstler, der fest auf dem Boden der Verfassung seines Landes steht und keine Gesetze bricht? Beinhaltet Freiheit nicht auch das Recht auf Widerspruch gegen den Zeitgeist? Dass DERO GOI bei Themen eine andere Meinung vertritt, ist kein Verbrechen. Bevor der Musiker, der am 16. April 1970 als Stephan Musiol in Wolfsburg geboren wurde, im Jahr 1989 OOMPH! gründete, spielte er bereits im Alter von 15 Jahren in einer Band mit seinem Freund Thomas Döppner (alias OOMH!-Gitarrist und Mitbegründer Crap), als beide noch Gymnasiasten waren. Seine musikalischen Einflüsse zeigen einen offenen Geist für stilistische Vielfalt. Mit ihrer EP "Hand Of Blood" legten die Bullet For My Valentine einen Senkrechtstart hin: In Großbritannien verkauften sie aus dem Stand gleich über 20.000 CDs, und auch in Deutschland mischten sie die Singlecharts kräftig auf. Am 30. September erscheint endlich der heiß ersehnte Longplayer "The Poison". Das Ergebnis klingt gleichzeitig eingängig und brutal, was wütenden Songtiteln wie "Suffocating Under The Words Of Sorrow" oder "Hit The Floor" den passenden musikalischen Rahmen liefert. Nach einem Cello-Intro, das die finnischen Klassik-Metaller Apocalyptica eingespielt haben, bricht mit dem eigentlichen Opener "Her Voice Resides" die Hölle los. Danach folgen Metalcore Hymnen der extraklasse wie z.B. "All These Things I Hate" oder "The End". Die Kult Single "Hand Of Blood" darf natürlich auf diesem Album auch nicht fehlen. Das Album "The Poison" erscheint in einer Jewelcase Version und in einer streng limitierten Digipak Edition mit Bonustrack und Enhanced Video Part (inkl. Videos "Hand Of Blood" & "4 Words"). Doch damit nicht genug - nachdem das Quartett den Welsh Music Award gewonnen hat, folgt nun auch noch eine Nominierung von Englands führendem Rockmagazin Kerrang!

Der in Bristol ansässige irische Produzent Seamus Malliagh kreiert unter dem Namen Iglooghost ungezwungen-detailreiche, elektronische Musik, indem er Juke, Footwork, Punk, Electronica, Hip-Hop und Pop in einen Mixer wirft und ins Unendliche geht. Inspiriert von den alten Frontmännern von Factory Records, Flying Lotus, ARCA und den Metalbands seiner Jugend, entstand sein neues Album in einer alten Werkstatt an der Küste von Kent neben einer Kläranlage, umgeben von alten Stämmen, Abgasen, bedecktem Wetter und rauer See. Maryland Death/Sludge reapers, YATRA, were born in 2018. The trio of Dana Helmuth on guitar and vocals, Maria Geisbert on bass, and Sean Lafferty on drums came out incredibly heavy with their first full length Death Ritual (grimoire rec) in 2019. With much critical acclaim, and followed with extensive touring of America and Europe, including many festivals, they proved themselves to be a relentless live touring band. In 2020 YATRA followed with their second full length, the more aggressive and heavier sounding, Blood Of The Night, also greeted overwhelming positive press and touring to follow until covid restrictions began. Not ones to remain idle or take a pause, in spite of touring restrictions, YATRA used their time to write and record another 2020 album, All Is Lost, bringing in more elements of their death metal roots and drenched in blackened intensity. BRUJERIA is Mexican hence the name and lyrics in Spanish. Dino Cazares ( exFEAR FACTORY ) was the guitarist. The musicians of BRUJERIA keep their identities secret but it is known that ex-FEAR FACTORY's Dino Cazares, FEAR FACTORY's Asesino and Raymond Herrera, as well as Billy Gould, ex-FAITH NO MORE, have worked on guitar, drums and bass, Nicolas Barker ( ex-CRADLE OF FILTH etc ) takes also part of the butchery, just to name a few...

To give you an idea of what the New Jersey, USA band Cowardice sound like, “Atavist” exists somewhere on the spectrum between the sombre strains of Bell Witch and the tormented tones of Body Void, with the first half of the album (“Suzerain”) erring more towards the bleakly melodic style of the former, while part two (“Sentinel”) shifts the focus towards a darker, dirgier approach; somewhere on the edges between melancholic doom and experimental sludge metal. Perhaps inevitably, it’s not quite that cut and dry - the gut-churning grind of “Unforgeable Key” for example, is just as nasty and gnarly as anything found on “Sentinel”, while the desolate disharmonies of “The Diminutive Principle” channel a similarly angst-ridden aura as much of “Suzerain” - but this distinction between the two halves, subtle as it may be, plays a big role in giving the whole album its sense of direction and progression.

And while it is always recommended to listen to the totality of “Atavist” so as to get the most out of it - especially if you’re a fan of the likes of Cavernlight and/or Chained To The Bottom Of The Ocean, both of whom also serve as useful touchstones for any prospective listener - also pay extra attention to the gorgeously gloomy slow-burn of opener “To The Hilt Of Humanity”, the haunting melodies and heaving grooves of the sludge-soaked “Clairvoyance Anxiety” and the morbid majesty of “Hall Of Mages”, as some of the record’s major highlights. Indeed, it’s this last track which will both test your resolve and prove, once and for all, that “Atavist” is more than worth every second you’ve invested into listening to it so far, with every crushing, cathartic chord and ringing, harmonic note… every tortured, suffering snarl and trembling, melancholy melody… coming together over the course of seventeen absolutely massive minutes to demonstrate that, despite its imposing size and intense sound, “Atavist” is nothing to be afraid of. Following the success of Highly Refined Pirates' forward-thinking guitar gymnastics and Menos El Oso's groundbreaking glitch rock, Seattle's premier pop revisionists Minus The Bear dug into some of rock music's most ostentatious years for inspiration for their 2007 album, Planet of Ice. The title alone conjures images of Yes's Relayer album art, and the influence of the elder statesmen's symphonic scope can be felt throughout Planet of Ice's lush and intricate arrangements. You can also hear the band channel the ominous instrumental interplay of Lamb-era Genesis on "Dr. L'Ling", the deceptively savvy musicianship and pristine production of Steely Dan on "White Mystery", and the tightrope walk between ethereal space and pre-metal riffage of Pink Floyd's "Echoes" on "Lotus". Not that Minus The Bear completely abandoned their earlier style_elements of Menos El Oso's sample-driven technique can be heard on the lead single "Knights". But the heart of the song ultimately belongs to the haunting Fripp-esque guitar lines spliced between verses. Like the towering mounds of toxic waste from which it gets its namesake, the music of Oklahoma City noise rock quartet Chat Pile is a suffocating, grotesque embodiment of the existential anguish that has defined the 21st Century. It figures that a band with this abrasive, unrelenting, and outlandish of a sound has stuck as strong of a chord as it has. Dread has replaced the American dream, and Chat Pile’s music is a poignant reminder of that shift—a portrait of an American rock band molded by a society defined by its cold and cruel power systems. Though very much on-brand with Chat Pile’s signature flavor of cacophonous, sludgy noise rock, the band’s shift to a global thematic focus on Cool World not only compliments the broader experimentations it employs with their songwriting but also how they dissect the album’s core theme of violence. Melded into the band’s twisted foundational sound are traces of other eclectic genre stylings, with examples of gazy, goth-tinged dirges to abrasive yet anthemic alt/indie-esque hooks and off-kilter metal grooves only scratching the surface of what can be heard in the album’s ten tracks. Besides stylistically stretching the boundaries of the Chat Pile sound, Cool World is also the band’s first record to have someone else handle mixing duties, with Ben Greenberg (Uniform) capturing and further amplifying the quartet’s unmistakably outsider and folk-art edge. While Chat Pile’s debut album was plenty disturbing with its B-movie-inspired interpretation of a “real American horror story”, what the band depicts on Cool World is unsettling not just from its visceral noise rock onslaught, but from depicting how all sorts of atrocities are pretty much standard parts of modern existence. In film terms, think something like a Criterion arthouse film by way of schlocky grindhouse splatterfest: undeniably gratuitous and thrilling in the moment but leaving a looming dread in the back of one’s mind for how close the horrors depicted mirror reality.

Composer and performer Stina Stjern have for over 25 years been a steady presence in the Norwegian music scene – starting out as a vocalist in the rock band Supervixen while studying jazz in Trondheim, Stjern’s road has been anything but predictable, and has over the years shown a will to experiment and explore new areas in her music making. Her new album ”Vivid Peace Restored” is perhaps her most radical musical statement yet, as the entire album is made using cassette tape. The sound sources vary from found sounds, various instruments and Stjern’s own voice, but there is no hierarchy, the different elements are given equal importance, and through considerate looping, layering, cut-ups, re-arranging the bits and pieces it forms a rich tapestry of sound. This blurring is intentional, Stjern wants us to get lost in her sound world, a place where nothing is forced or overstated. Tape hiss, subtle melody lines, distant location recordings, gentle waves of noise, and voices melt together creating lush soundscapes

Agitator is a band that evokes strong emotions. Euphoric acclaim for debut album 'Jag trivs bäst där du är', released earlier this year, drew its energy from the band's ferocious sincerity and pedal to the metal-mentality. The influences from classic post-punk, techno and the noisy guitar scene of the 90s became in Agitator's interpretation something that felt more now than anything. Audiences flocked to the band's gigs, all over the country. Already in the same year, their second album "Vänner för evigt" is released, a monumental work of howling post-punk guitars and synths. In the Agitator's world, the cold, hard and the soft meet, embracing without collision.

"Panopticon’s ""...on the Subject of Mortality"" is a poignant exploration of grief, written in the aftermath of the loss of one of Austin Lunn's parents. Originally released in 2009 and remixed in 2016, it delves into the emotional depths of human existence, processing death, and the fleeting nature of life. With atmospheric black metal and post-rock influences, the album reflects Lunn's personal journey through loss, deeply inspired by the existential themes of The Seventh Seal.

Next up on Greek label Lower Parts is a fierce EP from the one and only DJ Stingray, who serves up one of his strongest releases in a while and, at the same time, marks his comeback with a bang. Featuring a remix by Athens talent Kon001, who Stingray has been meaning to release for years and who got personally handpicked by him for this assignment, the EP's titles tell us of the Detroit man's interest in science, biology and evolution and covers plenty of musical styles.

Stingray has won plenty of acclaim with serious releases on labels like Naked Lunch, Bleep and Itinerant Dub. He wastes no time here in nailing down a nervy techno groove on 'Acetylcholine', with its hurried kicks, electro synths and slithering bass lines all racing along as you do the same. Dendrite is then a half time, lurching number with serious dub weight and serene synths that manages to be beautiful and brutal at the same time.

On the flip, 'eRbB4' is a slick, journeying bit of electro-techno with real soul and emotion in its bones, before kon001 does Stingray proud with a dynamic, spangled remix that is metallic and reflective, groovy and evocative. This is a killer release from Stingray and is yet another fine offering from Lower Parts.

Brilliant Hard En Geslepen is a one-off project by hip-hop group Osdorp Posse and metal band Nembrionic.

The groups sometimes played together during live performances in the past, but this usually degenerated into complete chaos. After recording two songs as an experiment, the idea arose to record a complete album. The result is a unique combination of metal and Dutch hiphop. Brilliant Hard En Geslepen is now available on vinyl for the first time!
