Guitarist, composer and producer Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, 13
million year old ghost) and Chaikin Records proudly present 41 Strings, a
song cycle for string orchestra, electric guitars and expanded rhythm
section
This four-movement composition was originally commissioned for a large-scale
Earth Day event and draws inspiration from and pays tribute to the four seasons.
Notable performances over the years include those at Sydney Opera House,
London's Royal Festival Hall and NYC's Rockefeller Center. Each performance of
the piece features stellar special guests; previous guests have included Lenny
Kaye (Patti Smith), Paul Banks (Interpol), Sarah Lipstate (Noveller, Iggy Pop)
among many more. The rhythm section features members of Yeah Yeah Yeahs,
TV on the Radio and Boredoms. 41 Strings's compositional style is purposefully
simple, lyrical and minimal; each of the four season's is treated as its own distinct
'character' to conjure a sentimental link of association, experience and
environment.

Drawing from the traditional rock music, as performed by the likes of The Dirt Bombs, The B-52's, MC5, and Ronnie Spector, Miranda and The Beat operate from a clear eyed appreciation of the greats and a healthy, barn-burning disregard for tropes or traditionalist limitations. Garage, soul, punk, classic rock_ pick your poison; the band has plenty to spare. Arriving in New York City in 2018, the band have, through songwriting and performance, proved themselves to be both an essential spark and spearhead to a scene of new blood rockers bringing a much needed renewal of energy to the New York City (garage, rock, whatever) scene. Originally a duo of 21 year old guitarist/vocalist Miranda Zipse and 21 year old drummer Kim "The Beat" Sollecito, the pair quickly added a full band of Kate Gutwald on bass and Dylan Fernadez on organ and soon became known for their tireless, wheel-on-fire live sets driven by Miranda's captivating stage presence, vocal prowess, and her pyrotechnic (but never indulgent!), melodically slashing guitar work. Their live reputation (and a reputation for being neither pushovers nor scumbags) led to collaborations with such childhood idols as The Mystery Lights and Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Soon there was the release of their 7" single Such A Fool, on Jack White's Third Man Records and an extensive North American tour supporting The King Khan and BBQ show. One pandemic later, between days/nights spent sweating out piss, vinegar, and trackloads of tears in the studio, and a rigorous, borderline ridiculous, rehearsal schedule, Miranda and The Beat are, at this juncture, practically monstrous in both sound and vision, and ready to meet the world.

Limited edition of 7500 picture disc copies. Spirituals is Santigold's first full-length album since 2016's 99¢, and was mostly recorded during the 2020 lockdown. "All of a sudden there I was with three small children out of school_just-turned-two-year-old twins and a six-year-old_I was cooking, cleaning, doing laundry and changing diapers from morning to night, with three little kids coming in and out of my bed throughout each night like musical chairs. I was losing touch with the artist me, stuck in a part of myself that was too small. I felt the other parts of me were shrinking, disappearing." Santigold struggled but succeeded in defining a space in which she could center herself and collaborate virtually with producers and contributors: Rostam, Boys Noize, Dre Skull, P2J, Nick Zinner, SBTRKT, JakeOne, Illangelo, Doc McKinney, Psymun, Ricky Blaze, Lido, Ray Brady, and Ryan Olson. "Recording this album was a way back to myself after being stuck in survival mode. It wasn't until I made the space to create that I realized I wasn't only creating music but a lifeline," she says. California was on fire, we were hiding from a plague, the social justice protests were unfolding. "I'd never written lyrics faster in my life. After having total writer's block, they started pouring out. I decided to create the future, to look towards where we are going, to create beauty and pull towards that beauty. I need that for myself, but it's also there for whoever else needs it."

Dabei fanden sich auch ihre eng verbundenen Musikerfreunde im Studio wieder ein - inklusive Bridgers Band bestehend aus Marshall Vore (Drums), Harrison Whitford (Gitarre), Emily Restas (Bass) and Nick White (Klavier) sowie Performances von Conor Oberst ("Halloween", "I Know The End"), Lucy Dacus ("Graceland Too", "I Know The End"), Julien Baker ("Graceland Too", "I Know The End"), Blake Mills ("Halloween", "Savior Complex" and "I Know The End"), Jenny Lee Lindberg ("Kyoto", "ICU"), Christian Lee Hutson ("Garden Song", "Halloween", "Savior Complex", "I Know The End"), Nick Zinner ("I Know The End"), den legendären Drummer Jim Keltner ("Halloween" and "Savior Complex") und Bright Eyes' Nathaniel Walcott an der Trompete ("Kyoto" and "I Know The End"). `Punisher' wurde wie zuvor auch `Stranger In The Alps' von Mike Mogis gemischt.

Music collective Africa Express announce the release of a brand new studio album titled EGOLI, coming on the newly created Africa Express Records imprint.

Hailed as the most revolutionary force in popular music for two decades, Africa Express was founded in 2006 and brings together musicians from different cultures, genres and generations to break boundaries and offer a new perspective on Africa and its music.

Each record and event is unique, based upon on-the-spot collaboration and filled with unique moments of magic; the collective have hosted trips and concerts in Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Mali and UK to date.

Africa Express travelled to South Africa in January of last year to complete an electronic album in just 7 days, a week of discovery, collaboration and music-making. The result is EGOLI - 18 tracks capturing the fresh, joyous sounds of Afro Futurism, straight out of Johannesburg.

Featured artists include Damon Albarn, Blue May, Gruff Rhys, Georgia, Ghetts, Mr Jukes, Nick Zinner, Remi Kabaka, Otim Alpha and Poté as well as emerging and established stars of the buzzing South African music scene including BCUC, Blk Jks, Dominowe, Faka, Infamous Boiz, DJ Spoko, Mahotella Queens, Moonchild Sanelly, Muzi, Morena Leraba, Nonku Phiri, Radio 123, Sibot, Sho Madjozi, Zola 7, Zolani Mahola (Freshly Ground) and Maskandi guitar legend Phuzekhemisi.
