Ende 2022 unterzeichneten ALTAR OF OBLIVION einen Deal mit From the Vaults und veröffentlichten im letzten Jahr die "Burning Memories"-EP, die als Appetizer für ihr kommendes viertes Album diente. Aber NICHTS konnte vorhersehen, was kommen würde. "In The Cesspit Of Divine Decay", das neue Album der dänischen Epic-Doomer, ist ein Konzeptwerk, das auf dem Tagebuch von Gitarrist Martin Meyer Sparvaths Urgroßvater mütterlicherseits, Jesper Wilhem Meyer, basiert, der während des Ersten Weltkriegs (1914-1918) widerwillig für das Deutsche Reich kämpfte.

Die Vorbereitungen für dieses akustische Unterfangen begannen 2005, als die Band eine Demoversion dessen aufnahm, was sich Jahre später in das jetzt fertiggestellte Album verwandeln sollte, das ursprünglich das Debütalbum der frühen Duo-Inkarnation der Band sein sollte. Dieses Album enthält einige der ersten Kreationen der Band, und in vielerlei Hinsicht kann es als eine Art Altar Of Oblivion-Prototyp betrachtet werden, der ihr düsterstes und traditionellstes episches Doom-Werk hervorbringt und ausspuckt. Während und seit der Pandemie waren Altar Of Oblivion im Aufnahmemodus
und haben sowohl neues als auch altes Material fertiggestellt, darunter zwei Alben, zwei EPs und ein Akustikalbum, was der Band eine wohlverdiente Studiopause ermöglicht, um sich von nun an auf Live-Shows zu konzentrieren. Für 2024 sind bereits einige Auftritte bestätigt, und das Kollektiv freut sich nun darauf, wieder auf die Bühne zu gehen, schwerer, älter und stärker als je zuvor. Die Zeit wird zeigen, ob Live-Auftritte die richtige Kur für einen schweren Fall von verfärbter Studio-Bräune sind.

Melodischer Death Metal mit Frauengesang! Düstere Hymnen der Rebellion Ancient Settlers haben sich in der europäischen Melodic-Death-Metal-Szene dank ihrer unermüdlichen Live-Aktivitäten schnell einen guten Ruf erspielt und wollen nun mit ihrem zweiten Studioalbum die Messlatte höher legen. Angeführt von den dämonischen Vocals der Frontfrau Argen Death beherrscht die venezolanisch-spanische Band das Thema Melodic Death mit absoluter Sicherheit durch stürmische Heavy-Riffs, fette Grooves
und eingängige Hooks (genau wie die Schwedischen Paten es uns allen beigebracht haben). "Oblivion's Legacy" ist ein konzeptionelles Werk, das in die Tiefen der menschlichen Existenz vordringt und das Vermächtnis erforscht, das wir als Individuen und als Spezies hinterlassen. Die Texte befassen sich mit den Auswirkungen unseres Handelns, den Kämpfen, denen wir uns stellen müssen, und dem endgültigen Schicksal, das uns alle erwartet. Vor dem Hintergrund kosmischer Wunder und existenzieller Introspektion dient jeder Song als Kapitel in der sich entfaltenden Erzählung der Reise der Menschheit durch Zeit und Raum.

The group were finishing off a huge US tour that had roared down the east coast then across the Midwest and by the time they hit LA, as Brian recalls “we were all absolutely performing at our height. So I decided that I really needed to record the band live at that point”. Utilising the Wally Heider Mobile Truck, the scene was set for one of the greatest jazz-fusion live recordings to be made. The show opens with a hyper fast version of Beginning Again due to drummer Steve Ferrone being almost an hour late and running high on adrenaline, Brian remembers thinking “I don’t even know if I can play it that fast!” Fortunately, he and the Oblivion Express including stellar vocalist Alex Ligertwood rise to the challenge and the result is akin to some frenetic jazzy drum & bass but also pushes the group onto another level altogether for the rest of the show. Across both volumes there are no fillers and the highlights are many - Bumpin’ On Sunset, Freedom Jazz Dance, and Inner City Blues are all stunning, but especially the epic version of Maiden Voyage which Mos Def sampled on his 1997 'If You Can Huh! You Can Hear', and both DJ Mitsu in 2004 and 2017 Crimeapple both dipped into Live Oblivion to sample that fire for their own projects.

OAKMAN is a French based trio with Jessie Gayaud on the drum, Geremia Gayaud on the bass and Marine Lanzillotta on guitar/vocal. They play emotional popish rock music, navigating between indiepop and alt-pop with a touch of synthpop.

After a year-long hiatus, 7CIRCLE reemerges on his label, Destroy To Rebuild, delivering two compelling originals, alongside groundbreaking remixes from none other than Perc (Perc Trax) and In Verruf (R Label Group). Brian Auger’s Oblivion Express was the phoenix that rose from the ashes of sixties combo The Trinity. Fusing R&B, jazz, soul and funk, keyboard maestro Brian Auger created a new breed of music that took the US and the UK by storm. Auger’s unique experimentation culminated in rhythm-infused jazz funk that united Black and white ’70s audiences. The 6 studio albums that make up Complete Oblivion illustrate the group’s diverse musical influences and progression, from the 1970 self titled debut’s heavy jazz-rock to the jazz fusion, latin and disco tinged Reinforcements from 1975 - this process no doubt powered by the groups’ evolving line up, which included guitarists Jim Mullen and Jack Mills, drummers Robbie McIntosh & Steve Ferrone, bassists Barry Dean and Clive Chaman and vocalist Alex Ligertwood. The musical highlights within Complete Oblivion are many, but particular highlights to mention have to be Total Eclipse (Oblivion Express), Fill Your Head With Laugher (A Better Land), the blistering cover of Eddie Harris’ Freedom Jazz Dance (Second Wind), the Barry Dean composition Whenever You're Ready, the version of Marvin Gaye’s Inner City Blues (Closer To It), Beginning Again (Straight Ahead) and the mind bending keyboard tour de force Brain Damage (Reinforcements). Often feral and consistently catchy, Blinded By Oblivion is lit up with interlocking drum kit + drum machine, adventuresome guitar, bass, and harmonic vocals on every song. Icy lyrical perspectives, rendered in a sunshiny natural paradise, transmit the fun and fraud of human polarities with urgency and an occasional eye roll. Making for an undeniably good/bad time, streamlined and more reflexibly physical than previously known, Blinded By Oblivion begs the universe to bring back rock and roll radio. All the elements are there: compassion for our collective fallibility, rebuke on the tip of the tongue, all rolled tight with hook-laden, high-energy construction. "Bout halfway through Blinded By Oblivion, we hear Sova say, "I think my heart is made of metal." Yuuuup. But we"d argue there"s at least a ventricle or two made of post punk! And with vena cavae split between psych and southern boogie. Frisch nach ihrem Vertrag mit From The Vaults kündigen die epischen Doom-Metaller ALTAR OF OBLIVION die Veröffentlichung der EP "Burning Memories" an. Die fünf Tracks wurden 2016 aufgenommen, kurz nach der Fertigstellung der dritten Full-Length der Band. Nun, sieben Jahre später, ist die EP endlich bereit, das Licht der Welt zu erblicken. Auf ihr beschwört die Band klassischen, zeitlosen Epic Doom Metal herauf, während sie gleichzeitig unter der düsteren Ägide dieses nordischen Kollektivs Neuland erkundet.
