Paul had played with school friend and future Bunnyman Will Sergeant in Industrial Domestic and the founding line-up of The Teardrop Explodes, before going on to form The Wild Swans. CARE were brought together late in 1982 by mutual friend Will Sergeant, when Paul was looking for someone to play a guitar part for a new song he had written. Ian obliged and asked him to return the favour by singing on one of his songs Tall Ships. When Bunnymen manager Bill Drummond heard the result, now retitled My Boyish Days (Drink To Me), he secured the pair a deal with Arista on the back of it. Care would go on to release three acclaimed singles over the course of a twelve-month period between 1983 and 1984 – My Boyish Days (Drink To Me), Flaming Sword and Whatever Possessed You – before Simpson, still struggling to come to terms with the break-up of his previous band decided not to continue. Although top 40 success eluded Care in the UK, the group quickly found an adoring fanbase in the Philippines, where all three singles became huge hits. Love Crowns and Crucifies marks the first vinyl release of the previously unheard songs gathered together on 1997’s Diamonds and Emeralds CD. Working closely with Paul Simpson and with the approval of Ian Broudie, Needle Mythology has been given access to the original quarter-inch tapes which housed everything that Broudie and Simpson recorded together.

Originally released in 1985, the debut EP by The Mice still stands as one of the finer song-oriented rock records of that era. Drawing inspiration from both mid 1960s British Invasion groups and the energy of punk, For Almost Ever is about as scorching as an essentially pop record can be. Although vocalist / guitarist Bill Fox would go on to release several much-loved mostly acoustic solo records, here he is joined by his younger brother Tommy, a veritable monster on the drum kit, bashing away with both finesse and the manic energy of a high school kid. And let’s talk about the song “Not Proud of the USA.” Conceived as an answer to The Clash’s “I’m So Bored with the USA,” this track is packed with such overwhelming hooks, righteousness, and adrenaline that it’s irresistible. During the war in Iraq, it took on a new life on college radio and online when it was reissued on CD. And with this vinyl reissue, it would seem the timing is sadly spot-on once again. Mastered by John Golden, this new pressing crackles with The Mice’s spirit, reproduced in big 45 rpm sound for deeper low end and greater definition than the original, which has been commanding a steep price for quite a while now. We’ve also been able to restore the colors of the handcolored cover photograph to their original vibrancy.

Following the aborted project for a second Bladder Flask album, scheduled for 1981, some forty years later, Richard Rupenus approached Steven Stapleton to use fragments of old recordings he’d unearthed from “Bladder Flask”, an invitation that Stapleton accepted, and rather than simply remixing or reworking existing Bladder Flask tracks, Steve Stapleton and Andrew Liles have succeeded in reinforcing Nurse With Wound and Bladder Flask’s sense of the absurd in this new opus “Backside”.

The Portland, ME trio returns with Feels Like Hell, their most self-assured and emotionally charged record yet. Despite the title, the album is a celebration of personal growth, creative freedom, and defiant joy in the face of a chaotic world.

Coming off the burnout and frustration captured in their 2021 album Quitter, Feels Like Hell finds Sonia Sturino (vocals/guitar), Annie Hoffman (bass/vocals), and Adam Hand (drums) leaning into clarity, gratitude, and renewed purpose. Sturino’s lyrics are as raw and honest as ever, but now they reflect strength rather than despair. It’s an album that drags existential dread into the daylight and sets it on fire.

“I decided to stop being such a sad-sap negative person,” Sturino says. “Now I practice being grateful, being proud, being happy, and not being envious.” That mindset shift shapes the tone of Feels Like Hell, which looks at darkness but chooses not to be consumed by it.

The record also marks the band’s first foray into co-writing, with Hoffman playing a significant role in shaping its sound. Embracing a more intuitive recording process, the trio stripped back the excess and focused on what felt right. The result is a record that’s resilient, cathartic, and brimming with creative energy.

While the world may still feel like it’s falling apart, Feels Like Hell pulses with the power of letting go. Letting go of fear, of perfectionism, of the illusion that vulnerability is weakness. Sweatmaster releases a new full-length album after a 15-year hiatus via Svart Records Sweatmaster, one of the aristocrats of Finnish garage rock, is making a big comeback with the release of their fifth album More! in January 2026. After the release of their 2010 album Dig Up the Knife, the band took a long break, which ended a few years ago with live performances both domestic and abroad. At the same time, new material began to emerge in the rehearsal room, and the band quickly found a common strategy for working on it. "We were unanimous about the strengths of our band and decided to get to the heart of the matter. The main idea was to make straightforward songs carried by the vocals. The kind that would work well live with our aggressive playing style," says the band's drummer Matti Kallio. Svart Records will release Sweatmaster's fifth album early next year. More! is a sharp package of fourteen songs that has not been polished to death. "We wanted a raw and electric sound for the new album, built tightly around the three of us playing. The aim was to stick to Sweatmaster's original energy and not spread ourselves too thin. However, despite our efforts, the intervening years brought some new tones with them," guitarist Mikko Luukko explains the background of the new album. The album's first single will be released on Friday, September 19th, and according to singer-bassist Sasu Mykkänen, Destroyer is the essence of Sweatmaster. "The drum fill draws you into the pull of the electric triangle. The guitar taps at the ballads and wants nothing more than to drive the rhythm until the passionate vocals take over. The song doesn't lead anywhere, it's already there. 2 minutes, 37 seconds. Wham bam. Here you go." In 1991, Chris Whitley made his debut with the beautiful album Living with the Law, which immediately showcased his brilliant songwriting and unique guitar playing. Blending blues, roots and folk, the debut was positively received by critics and aficionados of these more traditional genres. Growing up, Whitley listened to Southern radio, which played artists such as Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix. His career started by playing with artists like Arto Lindsay and Michael Beinhorn. Interestingly, Whitley lived in Belgium for a short time in the 1980s, where he started his career playing guitar for 2 Belgen and Nacht und Nebel. In the 1990s, he started his solo career at Kingsway Studio in New Orleans, owned by none other than Daniel Lanois. The result was an album characterized by the use of traditional instruments such as the slide guitar and banjo. All of this is accompanied by his splendidly timbred voice and honest lyrics exploring themes such as freedom, desire and human struggle. Sadly Chris Whitley passed away in 2005, but his influence on contemporary songwriters and blues artists remains strong. a_Living with the Law is available as a 35th anniversary edition of 1000 individually numbered copies on gold coloured vinyl and includes an insert.

On her debut LP 'Memoria', songwriter/producer Lilian Mikorey aka PILLBERT contemplates themes of identity and belonging, hardships and heartbreak in her signature blend of bendy folk guitars, field recordings and intimate vocals.
Moving to London from Munich, not yet 20 years old, Mikorey realized she was leaving her home behind for good. The subsequent state of being lost and alone in a place too temporary to start building the foundation for a new one led her to question the concept of home itself.
Is it friends? Family? A house?
"I started collecting objects, bones, sticks, stones and kept them close", she says, as to create a cosmos traveling with her.
"I was tracing the actual feeling of being home to the point where I built a dreamhouse in my head, as an idea, just to evoke that feeling." Soon enough she would learn that yielding to the yearning of actually going to that house, must be an inevitably sad experience.
A photo she took on a family visit to East-Munich became a reference and starting point for Memoria. It was a small house in her neighbourhood, the windows lit as dusk sets in. To Mikorey, it looked haunting, radiating warmth but somehow looking abandoned at the some time.
"I wanted to make music that sounds like this photo"
She started recording the sounds of the objects she had gathered and of her surroundings, building an archive and sonic material to work with.
From her mid-teens she had learned to produce with Ableton and now she picked up the guitar, too, learning it autodidactically by playing around, creating sounds.
At some point in the process, she realized it's okay to be lost for a while and by enduring the feeling, there's room for something new to grow, far off from any general idea of what home should mean.

The album, over the course of 10 tracks, traces these three phases of building a home in your head, realizing it's not a remedy, nor forever and coming to terms with it. You've grown in the process and the album is a guiding light for everyone who strives to do so, too.

This release resurrects a long-lost cornerstone of Seattle's early grunge history, showcasing Bundle of Hiss, featuring future Mudhoney and TAD guys and singer Jamie lane, one of the genre's missing links. Between 1986 and 1988, when Seattle was still a circuit of small clubs, four-track tapes and bands sharing drummers and singers, Jack Endino went in to record one of the most solid - and most unfairly invisible - outfits of that scene: BUNDLE OF HISS. Two sessions (1986 at Reciprocal and 1987/88 at Audio Design) fell into limbo, stored in the basement of Mudhoney-Drummer Dan Peters and for years they were a kind of pre-grunge legend, everyone knew they existed, but there was no record, until Loveless Records from NYC released both on CD. The second one, Audio Design Sessions, now sees the light of vinyl for the first time, just as it should have come out in the late '80s: a basement document turned into a collectible artifact. For those who want real grunge, not the domesticated version. It gathers the core of those 1987-1988 recordings done by Endino: the moment when the band is tighter, darker and closer to what the press would later call the "Seattle sound": minor-key melodies, thick fuzz, vocals on the edge, and that mix of hard rock, punk and Sabbath-like heaviness we'd later hear in Mudhoney, TAD or early Soundgarden. And Jack Endino himself summed up these sessions: "Vintage Seattle grunge from one of the original practitioners_ I always felt sad that this hard-working band never managed to get a record out and was almost lost to history. It was a pleasure -and a technical pain!- to resurrect all this." Kinda key release of the early grunge days, first-generation material, recorded by the scene's producer, at the exact moment Seattle was shifting from noisy punk to that heavy, shadowy rock that later blew up. It sounds raw, young and dangerous: this is not a polished compilation, it's a snapshot of the scene.

Rough Trade Records freut sich, die Veröffentlichung einer neuen Single von Lankum anzukündigen. Oona Doherty, deren Arbeit wir bereits aus dem Video zu Gilla Bands 'Shoulderblades" kannten, erzählte uns von einem neuen Stück über ihren Ururgroßvater, der als Kind nach Belfast geschickt wurde, um bei seinen Tanten in einem Schlachthof zu arbeiten. Sie wollte für eine Halloween-Party-Szene ein Musikstück, das zunächst verschwommen und unkenntlich beginnt und sich dann in den bekannten Song von The Specials verwandelt. Anfangs waren wir zögerlich - ein Ska-Cover war nicht unbedingt unser Stil -, doch schließlich entschieden wir uns, es zu versuchen. Dabei entstand eine spannende Studioerfahrung, in der wir begeistert mit Synthesizern und Drum-Machines experimentierten, um einen rauen 90er-Techno-Sound für das Outro zu schaffen. "Graze the Bell" ist eine Sammlung von bewegenden, faszinierenden Solo-Klavierstücken und das bisher reinste Werk von David Moore. Bekannt für seine atmosphärischen Kompositionen mit Bing & Ruth sowie seine Zusammenarbeit mit dem Gitarristen Steve Gunn und Cowboy Sadness, ist dies Moores erstes weit verbreitetes Solo-Klavieralbum. Wie das Albumcover - ein Foto, das Moore von Hand bestickt hat - abstrahiert die Musik persönliche Erfahrungen zu transzendenten Eindrücken. Moore nutzt sein Klavier, um meditativ die Conditio Humana zu erforschen, und macht "Graze the Bell" zu einem Zufluchtsort des Klangs. Im Laufe ihrer zahlreichen Veröffentlichungen haben Bing & Ruth häufig ihre Form und ihren Sound verändert, sich zu einer fünfzehnköpfigen Gruppe entwickelt und sind schließlich zu einer Trio-Konfiguration gelangt. Ihr jüngstes Album ,Species" stellte Moores Farfisa-Spiel in den Vordergrund, während eine nachfolgende EP mit dem gleichen Namen seine Solointerpretationen des Albums enthielt. Dieser lange Prozess der Destillation konzentrierte sich stets auf Moores Kompositionen für das Klavier und sein Verständnis davon. Nach zwei Jahrzehnten gefeierter Ensemblearbeit ist das Erscheinen von ,Graze the Bell" ein Moment, in dem sich der Kreis schließt, eine Heimkehr - nicht einfach zu einem Ort oder einer Zeit, sondern zu einem leuchtenden Zentrum, das beides übersteigt. Einige der Stücke auf ,Graze the Bell" waren ursprünglich für ein Album von Bing & Ruth geplant, wurden aber schließlich als Soloprojekt neu konzipiert. Moore nutzte nur das Klavier und versuchte, die bewährten Methoden, die er im Laufe der Jahre entwickelt hatte, weiter auszubauen. ,Ich möchte mich weiterentwickeln", sagt er, ,und dogmatische Denkweisen hinterfragen." Er öffnete sich aktiv für Experimente und suchte nach einer tieferen Präsenz in seinem Spiel, wobei er seine Beziehung zum Klavier und zum Leben neu bewertete. Moores Musik basiert zwar auf komponierten Noten und schöpft aus Lebenserfahrungen, doch die Quelle seiner Inspiration bleibt eher unbeschreiblich. Indem er Letzteres bewusst pflegte, entwickelte er eine natürliche Fähigkeit, sich in einen tranceähnlichen Zustand zu versetzen. Moore kann sich mit dieser Absicht hinsetzen und ist ,innerhalb weniger Sekunden" ,vollkommen dort". Von der ersten bis zur letzten Note basiert das Album auf dem atemberaubenden Klang eines ,bestialischen" Steinway Model D aus Hamburg von 1987. Dies hängt zum Teil mit seinem subtilen Spielstil zusammen, der manchmal an Stille grenzt. Moores anmutige Herangehensweise gibt dem Klang Raum und offenbart Nuancen des Klaviers, die viele Spieler gewöhnlich ignorieren würden. Solche Nuancen wurden während der Aufnahmen des Albums im renommierten Oktaven Audio in Mt. Vernon, New York, gepflegt. Der Klang des Steinway-Flügels des Studios wurde unter der Produktionsleitung des Grammy-Gewinners Ben Kane mit Unterstützung von Owen Mulholland lebhaft eingefangen. Um Moores experimentellen Ansatz zu unterstreichen, setzten sie Pitch-Correcting-Software kreativ ein, um die verschiedenen Register des Klangprofils des Klaviers zu orchestrieren. Der Ausdruck ,graze the bell" (die Glocke streifen) kam Moore vor Jahren aus heiterem Himmel in den Sinn. Er fand ihn poetisch und blieb ihm im Gedächtnis haften.
