Khadim is a stunning reconfiguration of the Ndagga Rhythm Force sound. The instrumentation is radically pared down. The guitar is gone; the concatenation of sabars; the drum-kit. Each of the four tracks hones in on just one or two drummers; otherwise the sole recorded element is the singing; everything else is programmed. Synths are dialogically locked into the drumming. Tellingly, Ernestus has reached for his beloved Prophet-5, a signature go-to since Basic Channel days, thirty years ago. Texturally, the sound is more dubwise; prickling with effects. There is a new spaciousness, announced at the start by the ambient sounds of Dakar street-life. At the microphone, Mbene Diatta Seck revels in this new openness: mbalax diva, she feelingly turns each of the four songs into a discrete dramatic episode, using different sets of rhetorical techniques. The music throughout is taut, grooving, complex, like before; but more volatile, intuitive and reaching, with turbulent emotional and spiritual expressivity.

Not that Khadim represents any kind of break. Its transformativeness is rooted in the hundreds upon hundreds of hours the Rhythm Force has played together. Nearly a decade has passed since Yermande, the unit's previous album. Every year throughout that period — barring lockdowns — the group has toured extensively, in Europe, the US, and Japan. With improvisation at the core of its music-making, each performance has been evolutionary, as it turns out heading towards Khadim. “I didn’t want to simply continue with the same formula," says Ernestus. “I preferred to wait for a new approach. Playing live so many times, I wanted to capture some of the energy and freedom of those performances.” Though several members of the touring ensemble sit out this recording — sabar drummers, kit-drummer, synth-player — their presence abides in the structure and swing of the music here.

Lamp Fall is a homage to Cheikh Ibra Fall, founder of the Baye Fall spiritual community. The mosque in the city of Touba is known as Lamp Fall, because the main tower resembles a lantern. Soy duggu Touba, moom guey séen / When you enter Touba, he is the one who greets you. After a swift, incantatory start Mbene sings with reflective seriousness. Her voice swirls with reverb, over a tight, funky, propulsive interplay between synth and drums, threaded with one-two jabs of bass. Cheikh Ibra Fall mi may way, mo diayndiou ré, la mu jëndé ko taalibe... Cheikh Ibra Fall amo morome, aboridial / Cheikh Ibra Fall shows the way forward, he gives us strength, he gathers his disciples... Overflowing with grace, Cheikh Ibra Fall has no equal.

Interwoven with Wolof proverbs, Dieuw Bakhul is a recriminatory song about treachery, lies, and back-biting. Over moody, roiling synths and ominous, lean bass, Mbene throws out fluttering scraps of vocal, as if re-running old conversations in her head. The music shadows her despair to the verge of breakdown, at one moment seemingly so lost in thought and memories, that it threatens to disintegrate. Bayilene di wor seen xarit ak seen an da ndo... Dieuw bakhul, dieuw ñaw na / Stop judging your friends and companions... A lie is no good, a lie is ugly.

Khadim is a show-stopper; currently the centrepiece of Ndagga Rhythm Force live performances. The song is dedicated to Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, aka Khadim, founder of the Mouride Sufi order. Serigne Bamba mi may wayeu / Serigne Bamba is the one who makes me sing. The verses name-check revered members of his family and brotherhood, like Sokhna Diarra, Mame Thierno, and Serigne Bara. Though Islam has been practised in Senegal for a millennium, it wasn’t until the start of the twentieth century that it began to thoroughly permeate ordinary Senegalese society, hand-in-hand with anti-colonialism. The verses here recall Bamba’s banishment by the French to Gabon, and later to Mauritania, in those foundational times. During exile, his captors once introduced a lion to his cell: gaïnde gua waf, dieba lu ci Cheikhoul Khadim / the lion doesn’t budge, it gives itself over to Cheikh Khadim. Deep, surging bass, steady kick-drum, and simple, reverbed chords on the off-beat lend the feel and impetus of steppers reggae. A reed plays snatches of a traditional Baye Fall melody; the dazzling polyrhythmic drumming is by Serigne Mamoune Seck. Mbene compellingly blends percussive vocalese, narrative suspense, exultant praise, introspection, and grievance.

Nimzat is a devotional tribute to Cheikh Sadbou, a contemporary of Bamba, buried in a mausoleum in Nizmat, in southern Mauritania. Way nala, kagne nala... souma danana fata dale / I call upon you and wonder about you... If I am overwhelmed, come to my aid. The town holds special significance for Khadr Sufism. An annual pilgrimage there is conducted to this day. The rhythm is buoyantly funky; the mood is sombre, reined-in, foreboding. Punctuated by peals of thunder, Mbene sings with restrained, intense reverence; huskily confidential, steadfast. Nanu dem ba Nimzat, dé ba sali khina / Let us go to Nimzat, to seal our devotion.

Michiru OSHIMA is a prolific composer, arranger, conductor and lyricist, she started her career in background music for NHK (Japanese television) and movies. Her career is punctuated with participations and arrangements for major video games such as Ico (Playstation) or The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Nintendo). But it is in animation that she writes her most emblematic compositions. She is at the origin of the music of the famous series Full Metal Alchemist, of 2 parts of Star Wars: Visions (The Elder, The Twins) among others.

With "Bloom into you", she signs a dreamlike ode that beautifully accompanies the two students in their quest for themselves

Having endured no less than three long-players and a brace of singles featuring the caterwauling of Messrs Hampshire and Childish, the Milkshakes’ audience figured it might be time for an instrumental outing. In response the group gave them just that. But this was to be no run-of-the-mill effort – no Dick Dale-esque surf marathons or Shadowsy twangers are apparent here. These tunes are more ‘rhythm-and-mood’-based compositions; occasionally leaning more towards the Link Wray end of the spectrum – as you would probably expect. This IVth album (hence the name) was recorded in 1983 at Oakwood Studios – as were all previous releases – but this was the first in their new facilities in a converted church near Canterbury, which opened up a whole new golden vista of shimmering, silvery sounds in atmospheric conditions. Of course, the Milkshakes were having none of that. We suggest you plonk the wax on your gramophone and let whatever happens happens. Hasty bananas.

Released only on CD in between 2009 and 2012 via local label La Distritofónica, Meridian Brothers VI and VII never had wide distribution or media exposure. Library of the Occult Records unviels ‘Music to Accompany the Poems of Edgar Allan Poe’ a haunting double LP that threads the legendary poet’s dark romanticism through the minds of some of the most evocative contemporary electronic artists.
The Library’s ever-expanding circle now united as the Library of the Occult Electronic Orchestra, bring their own haunted visions to Poe’s bleak and beautiful world. Ivan The Tolerable stretches krautrock pulses and experimental noise into something hypnotic and strange, while The Heartwood Institute channels vintage occult nostalgia. Sermons by the Devil drapes everything in a ritualistic haze and Klaus Morlock, ever the maestro of unease, paints in slow-moving shadows, melancholic, cinematic, and tinged with the surreal. It’s a record for twilight listening, flickering candles, and the spaces between.

Innovativer (und extremer) geht zu dieser Zeit niemand zu Werke. Unbeholfene Stilbeschreibungen wie "Jazz Metal" oder "Techno Thrash" werden kreiert. Ursprünglich werden Watchtower im Mai 1982 in Austin, Texas, aus der Taufe gehoben. In jenem Monat schließt sich Sänger Jason McMaster Bassist Doug Keyser, Schlagzeuger Rick Colaluca sowie Gitarrist Billy White an. In ihrem frühen Stadium zeigen sich Watchtower stark von der NWOBHM inspiriert und spielen Songs von Iron Maiden, Angel Witch und Raven nach - dazu natürlich etliche Nummern der kanadischen Prog-Götter Rush. In der Folge entwickelt die Band sukzessive ihren individuellen Stil und nimmt Demos mit eigenen Stücken auf. Aber die Plattenfirmen wollen nicht anbeißen. Aus diesem Grunde entschließt man sich dazu, auf dem eigenen Label Zombo Records das wegweisende Album "Energetic Disassembly" zu veröffentlichen (gepresst werden 3.500 LPs und 1.000 Kassetten).
"Ich kann mich noch lebhaft daran erinnern, wie ich Demokassetten an Fanzines verschickt habe und nahezu täglich Briefe mit Tapetradern ausgetauscht wurden," erinnert sich Sänger Jason Mc Master heute. "Ich erhielt u.a. Briefe von Gene Hoglan, Mike Portnoy, Jason Newsted und sogar Alan Tecchio Die Reaktionen waren fantastisch, aber wir klangen einfach so andersartig. Die Labels wussten nicht, wie sie uns seinerzeit hätten vermarkten sollen. Waren wir zu extrem? Ich denke schon." Pünktlich zum 40. Jubiläum von "Energetic Disassembly" erscheint über High Roller Records nicht nur eine De-Luxe-Edition des originalen Albums, sondern auch eine neue Abmischung. Die Re-Mixes wurden im Jahre 2009 von Jared Tuten, einem engen Freund von JasonMcMaster, in den Top Hat Studios angefertigt. Second Horizon is the follow up album of his very successful debut album "Heartware", that has been voted as album of the year by more than 23.000 readers of FAZE Magazine. The twelve tracks are inspired by 80s music styles EBM, Italo, Acid, Electro and Dark Wave and produced with a lot of original equipment from that era transferred into 2025. The album is also inspired by his relocation to Berlin, and the music reflects this shift, balancing gritty, industrial influences with shimmering, retro-futuristic tones.

Pianist Rob Clearfield, who has been a regular sideman for drummer Makaya McCraven, both live and in the studio, emerges from the shadows with an album that reveals the strength and originality of his talent.

In trio with double bassist and teenage friend Joe Sanders (Gerald Clayton, Charles Lloyd) and drummer Fred Pasqua, or in quartet adding trumpeter Itamar Borochov, the American pianist presents a dense, spellbinding opus as carefully produced as it is sensitively arranged, reconciling the creative heritage of the Chicago scene, of which he is one of the most fertile offspring, with a sense of lyricism that goes straight to the heart.

THEE ALLYRGIC REACTION are a fuzz'n'Farfisa-powered 60's garage punk outfit from San Diego, CA USA! While they specialize in fuzz stompahs that will move your feet, they will also melt yer mynd with minor key psych madness! They are also leaders in the emerging "protest garage" scene, with songs that address the import topics of today's over aged teen scene!They have a maraca-breaking wyld live set, but also managed to sit still long enough to record their debut LP for Soundflat Records As every band does, they argued over the title for the LP, and finally settled on one that NO ONE likes, simply, "Thee Allyrgic Reaction"! All four lads grew up in the 80s Charmkin Scene, witnessing first-hand groups like the Unclaimed, The Primates, The Miracle Workers, The Tell- Tale Hearts, The Cynics, The Gruesome, Lyres, The Chesterfield Kings, The Fleshtones and The Brood! (and about a 100 more not named here!) The boys are THRILLED with their new LP on Soundflat, which was recorded over a two day period, and required nine California burritos, three pizzas, two cases of beer, and several cans of wine.

The record features 11 original compositions, as well as their own version of their favourite UNCLAIMED-song. One of the originals is an ode to Peter Maniette of the Crimson Shadows and Wylde Mammoths. So what do they sound like? They certainly pull from the farfisa'n'fuzz blasters of the past, but also employ some 12 string, harpsichord, harp and a few other surprises. They are a little folk, a little psych and LOT of garage punk! The group records at Earthling Studios in the San Diego area, which features an array of vintage gear, including an 8- track from Sunset Sound that was used on Forever Changes. That's how you say "MO-JO"!!!

Chained Echoes is a 16-bit style RPG set in a fantasy world where dragons are as common as piloted mechanical suits. The game is set on the continent of Valandis during the time of a multi-generational war between three kingdoms, Taryn, Gravos and Escanya. After a great catastrophe caused by Grand Grimoire shakes the continent, the kingdoms agree to sign a peace treaty. One year later, an unknown force strives to begin a new war. A group of unlikely heroes joins forces and eventually becomes the clan of Crimson Wings in order to stop it. The outstanding soundtrack for Chained Echoes was passionately composed, arranged and recorded over four years by Eddie Marianukroh as well as many other musicians who worked under his direction. It includes 50 tracks at two hours in length. Even the game has been out for a while, Marianukroh's admiration and enthusiasm for the game and his addition to it remain undiminished: "It has been over two years now since the release of Chained Echoes, which is rather difficult for me to believe. Time really flies, and it's honestly a bit frightening when I think about it. But, despite that, when I listen to the music I've written for this game, I still very much remain proud of what I composed. I really did give my all for this soundtrack. I will forever be grateful to Matthias for trusting me with the music for his game. I can vividly remember how I felt when I first came across his project, and how I nervously reached out to him about the composer position. I truly, truly cannot thank him enough for giving me this memorable experience that I will always hold dear. Thank you, my friend."

Following the departure of Wire's drummer Robert Grey in 1990 WIR had risen phoenix like from the ashes of the acclaimed UK post-punk band after and were created to fulfil the final phase of Wire's Mute Records contract. With a more sequence based sound, WIR saw the band breaking all their own rules by creating a new sparse electronic music with Graham Lewis singing most of the vocals and even cannibalising their own catalogue by sometimes sampling their own older material. WIR was, however, not a long-term project and besides completing their only album, The First Letter, their only other activities were a very small number of gigs and two multi-artist "conceptual happenings" under the name I Saw You. One of these was in Clapham in April 1992 on election night and the other in Vienna in Feb 1993. On that Vienna trip, in addition to playing the gig, the band recorded a radio session for the Austrian national broadcaster ORF which was organised by Peter Rehberg - later the person behind MEGO & sadly no longer with us. This was released in 1996 by Touch on CD and consisted of two long tracks with a running time of almost 25 minutes. Once the short run of CDs had sold out, the rights technically fell to the band, and pinkflag released it - digital only - in 2007 and now released on vinyl for the first time. The remastered 2025 vinyl / CD / digital edition adds a newly recorded, Taylor Swift style re-recording of what is undoubtedly WIR's most pop moment, the dark brooding shadows of So and Slow. The version released here is based on how the band played it live, so, inspite of being instantly recognisable, it does not follow the arrangement of any previously released version.

Following his two reinterpretations of last year's "JK Flesh Remixes" and four years after his solo EP "A Day In The Life" in 2021, Bicknell takes us deep into the realms of his sonic mysticism, marking a significant milestone in the fifth anniversary of the label.
Several Streams of Thought LP - is an unrelenting and immersive odyssey, presented through nine tracks, seven of which will be available on a double 12-inch vinyl, with two exclusive cuts in a limited 7-inch format.

"Change Today? is the third studio album by the American rock band T.S.O.L. (True Sounds Of Liberty), released in 1984. It was the band's first album with singer/guitarist Joe Wood and drummer Mitch Dean, replacing founding members Jack Grisham and Todd Barnes who had left the band in late 1983.

The album was recorded using money loaned to T.S.O.L. by the Dead Kennedys, and found the new incarnation of the band moving away from the Hardcore Punk associations of the original lineup in favor of a traditional Rock and Gothic Rock sound. Over the course of four nights at Mad Dog Studio in Venice, California T.S.O.L. recorded their new songs with recording engineer Stuart Schanwetter and producer Chris Grayson. The artist from Spandau leans his track 'Bloomscroll' towards sparse, dubby sonics in which he intricately ties together to form churning, burgeoning soundscape. FJAAK jolt proceedings back into the techno groove with their signature blend of arresting sub-bass and reverberating rhythms, which come thick, fast and heavy on 'Jackfruit'. The abstract wonder of Anna Z's broken-beat like stylings is fully explored on 'Icy Liq'. It's outlandish and amorphous in its execution, causing a clattering percussive chaos that's choicely pieced together by the modular-extraordinaire. Nikk stealthy moves into breaks territory with his track 'Down In The Shadows', packing a trap-like snare with an acid-flecked melody and dawn-breaking, dream-like textures. Songs of Silence is a beautiful turn-based strategy game of fantasy warfare. Leading one of the game's distinct factions, it is the player's task to conquer randomized maps through military might, subterfuge or arcane means. Intriguing hero stories grounded in a rich fantasy world create emotional bonds and give meaning to the player's actions. Roguelike meta-game progression, based on heroes' personal stories and unlocking new features and content via playing, ensuring long-time motivation and keeping the game excitingly fresh. The atmospheric soundtrack of the game is composed by Hitoshi Sakimoto, the famous artist behind all-time favourites such as Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy 12 and Valkyria Chronicles. Sakimoto describes his way into creating the soundtrack for Songs of Silence: "Regarding Songs of Silence, the stage design and the world-building are incredibly detailed and meticulously crafted. The settings are thoroughly developed and each region has its own unique culture. Given this highly refined world, I believe that my role was primarily to support and enhance the atmosphere with sound. At the same time, I wanted to ensure that the music conveys the uniqueness of this world. When people see it, I want them to feel its strong presence while also recognizing that it is a world unlike anything they have seen before. Expressing this uniqueness and reinforcing the impression it leaves is, in my view, the role of music and sound." But Sakimoto's music isn't just pushing the gamer's experience, it aims to add a little extra in a way that only his profession is able to: "It's a bit difficult to describe the specific 'feeling' I was aiming for, but I intend to create sounds and music that people have rarely heard before. Since the world itself is already well-defined, my approach was to add an extra layer - something that cannot be conveyed through visuals or text alone - through music."
