“Seven Up” is the third studio album by Ash Ra Tempel and their only album recorded in collaboration with American Ph.D. in psychology, Dr. Timothy Leary. The Coverart for “Seven Up” was designed by famous Swiss Artist Walter Wegmüller. Recorded in August 1972 at Sinus Studio in Berne, Switzerland, remixed September 1972 at Dierks Studios in Stommeln, Germany. First release in spring 1973 by OHR Musik - the first release on the new sub-label "Kosmische Kuriere", Kat-Nr. KK 58001.
We release “Seven Up” in a Re-Cut carefully overseen by Manuel Göttsching himself, on September 9th 2022, also being Manuel Göttsching´s 70th Birthday. Our Edition features the full original text for the “7 levels of consciousness” by Timothy Leary in English, i.e. “Instruction Manual for Pleasure Panel” plus a previously unreleased glimpse view of the original scripts incl. notes and mark ups as well as partly unreleased photos from the recording session. ->continued on page 2->continued on page 2 As for the music itself we again refer to Julian Cope´s review and remarks from his book "Krautrocksampler” (published by Head Heritage, 1st ed. 1995):
“When the Leary Mob met the Kaiser Gang, the sparks flew ever Up-wards... 7up is a stone classic in every way. Yes, it is unlikely to find Timothy Leary singing lead vocal in a cosmic group, but even weirder that he chose to sing a wild yelping freaked out blues !
Manuel Göttsching and Hartmut Enke had begun their careers in The Steeple Chase Blues Band back in the mid-'60ies, and they quickly felt their way through what Barritt and Leary were aiming for. They reconciled it all as a kind of West Coast chordless psychedelia, where blues riffs sparkle out of nowhere and the sheer weight of synthesizers renders everything with an unreal Pere Ubu/early Roxy Music quality.
The greatness of Ash Ra Tempel burned so brightly on 7Up that there is really nothing else like it. Hartmut Enke and Manuel Gottsching here returned to their riffy roots. It can hardly be called a retro act, though, as the context of music is everything. And with Dierks at the controls, even the New Kids on the Block would have sounded psychedelic.
7Up is like a late night radio show glimpsed through a shattered tuner where all but the most truly dangerous sounds have been allowed to stay, to drift and to dance around the performers.
The result is an extreme gem, a flash of hysterical white lightning, and a pre-punk Technicolour yawn in the grandest of traditions.
In typical Ash Ra Tempel style, the record is divided into two pieces, “Space” and "Time”. Within this, though,
Timothy Leary’s ideas are allowed to free-flow and the two sides are therefore divided into mini-songs all segued together. The highlight of Side 1 is “Power Drive”, a West Coast burn-up that transcends any W.
Coast music I ever did hear. Leary and Barritt present the greatest twin-vocal of all time, coming on like Jagger and Morrison but too caught up in their own maelstrom to be anything less than Heralds of the Punkfuture still five years away.
In chaos it was conceived and in chaos it was recorded. Yet Dieter Dierks, the great Aural Architect of the Cosmic Couriers, turned 7Up into a personal triumph and a Kosmische dream.”

Rund 135 Jahre umspannt das Repertoire von Igor Levits neuem Album "Tristan": die Zeit von etwa 1837 bis 1973. Ganz unterschiedliche Genres treffen aufeinander; nur eines der Werke wurde ursprünglich für Soloklavier geschrieben. Levits Annäherungen an existenzielle Grenzerfahrungen - den Tod in "Life" (2018), die Begegnung mit dem Spirituellen in "Encounter" (2020) und jetzt, in "Tristan", die Verbindung von Liebe, Tod und Erlösungsbedürftigkeit - bringen es mit sich, dass wiederum nicht allein Meisterwerke für sein Instrument im Mittelpunkt stehen, sondern vor allem Kompositionen, in denen gewisse thematische Assoziationen eine möglichst persönliche Gestaltung finden. Dabei kreisen Levits eigene Gedanken bei "Tristan" weniger um die Liebes- und Todesthematik als solche, sondern vielmehr um Erlebnisse der Nacht und des Nächtlichen - als dunkle Gegenwelt zum bewussten Handeln bei Tage. Psychische Ausnahmezustände geben den Ton vor: "Die Nacht hat so viele Gesichter. Sie kann Zuflucht und Kontrollverlust bedeuten, sie steht für Liebe und Tod, und sie ist die Zone tiefer Ängste", sagt Levit. "Im Adagio von Mahlers Zehnter Sinfonie gibt es den berühmten Aufschrei des dissonanten Schmerzensakkords, und Wagners 'Tristan und Isolde' inszeniert geradezu eine Art emotionale Kernschmelze. Alle wesentlichen Geschehnisse des Stücks spielen sich in der Nacht ab. Auch Hans Werner Henze spricht in seinen Erinnerungen an die Entstehungszeit von 'Tristan' von Alpträumen und traumartigen Halluzinationen." Henzes "Tristan - Préludes für Klavier, Tonbänder und Orchester" - ein schwärmerisch-raffinierter Hybrid aus Soloklavier, Elektronik, Konzert und Sinfonie - bildet das Herzstück des Albums. Es ist die erste Orchesterproduktion Levits überhaupt. Unter der Leitung von Franz Welser-Möst hatte Levit das suggestive Werk, von dem bisher nur die kompromissbehaftete Aufnahme unter Leitung des Komponisten greifbar war, bei den Salzburger Festspielen als auch mit dem Gewandhausorchester in Leipzig aufgeführt; im Zusammenhang mit den Leipziger Konzerten entstand 2019 die vorliegende Aufnahme.Franz Liszts dritter Liebestraum ist heute als sentimentaler Show-Stopper aller Klavierpoeten bekannt. Dabei ist auch dieses Nocturne in As-Dur durchaus tragisch grundiert. Zurück geht es auf ein Kunstlied Liszts auf Verse von Ferdinand Freiligrath (1810-1876). Der Beginn des Gedichts lautet: "O lieb', so lang du lieben kannst!, O lieb', so lang du lieben magst!, Die Stunde kommt, die Stunde kommt, wo du an Gräbern stehst und klagst!"Nächtlich Verzweifeltes auch bei Mahler: Ende Juli 1910, mitten an der Arbeit am ersten Satz seiner Zehnten, erfuhr der Komponist von einer Affäre seiner Frau. Igor Levit spielt dieses Adagio in einer wenig bekannten Klaviertranskription des schottischen Komponisten Ronald Stevenson, für dessen große "Passacaglia on DSCH" er sich zuletzt so stark eingesetzt hat. Erst in "Harmonies du Soir", der elften der 12 "Études d'exécution transcendante" von Franz Liszt, scheint, bei aller Verdichtung pianistischer Majestät, eine Versöhnung auf. Die am Ende des Programms erklingenden "Abendklänge" bilden das friedliche Gegenstück zu den Ekstasen und Alpträumen, die den Nachtgeweihten bei Wagner oder Mahler widerfahren.

Über den Verlauf von 25 Jahren und nach tausenden von Konzerten auf der ganzen Welt hat Flogging Molly die Grenzen zwischen den Genres überschritten. Sie ist zu einer der wenigen Bands geworden, die buchstäblich an einem Tag mit The Chieftains und am nächsten Tag mit Motörhead die Bühne teilen. Für Flogging Mollys siebtes Album "Anthem" beschloss die Band um das Ehepaar Dave King (Gesang, Gitarre, Bodhrán) und Bridget Regan (Geige, Blechflöte, Backing Vocals), zu ihren Wurzeln zurückzukehren. Die Band nahm 14 Songs in 14 Tagen mit Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies) im Electrical Audio Studio in Chicago auf. Letztlich gibt es keine andere Band wie Flogging Molly, die so mühelos zwischen Punk und Folk wechseln kann. Die Tatsache, dass mittlerweile mehrere Generationen von Fans zu den Konzerten der Band kommen, ist ein Beweis für ihre anhaltende Relevanz. Damit schließt sich der Kreis zurück zu "Anthem". Steven Kimber - I Wanna Be The One (Drop Out Orchestra Remix)

Next up is a Steven Kimber song, by way of a gorgeous Drop Out Orchestra remix. Drop Out Orchestra are the reigning edit kings of the soulful disco scene. Taking on the Birmingham-based vocalist and producer Steven Kimber's I Wanna Be The One,they managed to turn it into a brilliant yacht-house infused bouncer. Beach-proof from the get go, we wouldn't be surprised to hear this one tear up some island clubs this summer.

King Mutapa - Gimme That Funk

Third in line for Boogie Beats Volume 3 is South-African producer King Mutapa with the ever so shiny Gimme That Funk. Heavily influenced by 70s Disco, Funk and Boom Bap, King Mutapa expertly sprinkles funk chops over the shiniest groove we've heard in ages. Moving through several parts of the song, it's clear to hear that Mutapa's the King of bounce and will steadily continue this trajectory into his fresh career.

Pontchartrain - Cheap Plants

Detroit-based producer Pontchartrain (of Kolours LTD., Delusions of Grandeur, Whiskey Disco, Toy-Tonics and Razor-n-Tape fame a.o.) rain steps up to the plate with Cheap Plants; a bouncy and classy house number which could only have come out of the Motor City. Exuberating percussion parts sway ear-to-ear, whilst the mesmerizing piano stabs stay ever present, providing a steady backbone for the menagerie of lively synth swirls.

FUTVRST - The Feeling

New, mysterious Californian indie-vibed and post-disco duo FUTVRST light up the night with The Feeling. Swirling disco chops under laid with an infectious bassline, all dancing around an irresistible arpeggio sequence. FUTVRST takes us back to the blog house days with this one, and we can't wait to hear what's next for them.

The five songs are rounded off with the longer, original mix of Fittipaldi, plus an extended version of the I Wanna Be The One remix—all set to suit your DJ needs.

Listening through the featured tracks it's clear to hear that the compilations are always a brilliant indicator of the label's variety and broad scope in the electronic music scene, whilst always being undeniably funky and danceable. With exciting times ahead for the Netherlands-based label, the Boogie Beats series always feel like a little homecoming.

Wishbone Ash achieved considerable success in the 1970s, during which they were among England’s most popular hard rock acts, achieving an incredible eight top 40 albums. Often regarded as one of the premiere UK live acts of the ’70s, they toured considerably throughout this period and into the following decades.

Originally released in 2001, their final album, Dead Media, found Hefner reaching out and taking risks. Keen to break free of their indie-folk roots, they cocooned themselves in a home studio with broken analogue synthesizers, antique drum machines and battery-powered amplifiers. The band’s naivety and guile produced some curiously engaging music, with frontman Darren Hayman’s precise, economic, poetic dissections of quotidian romance draped over awkward, fuzzy beats: something like Cat Stevens covering Warm Leatherette. Dead Media caused confusion at the time and ultimately lead to the band’s break up. Highlights: Limey and the Yanks' A-side 'Love Can't Be A One Way Deal' is a garage song with a sound pitched somewhere between the Beau Brummels and the Beach Boys. 'Guaranteed Love', on the flipside, is an outstanding bluesy number with a stinging fuzz guitar, a concise harp solo and a rousing Bo Diddley-fied groove that has made its way to various compilations since the early 80s and now gets reissued for the first time on a 7" single. This release includes notes by Mike Stax (Ugly Things Magazine) Details: In California in the mid-sixties, with the British Invasion raging, having an authentic Englishman as the lead singer of your band was an ace in the hole that gave you an edge over the competition. Such was the case with Limey & the Yanks a quintet from Buena Park in Southern California's Orange County. Limey was young Steve Cook, and his Yanks by 1965 were guitarists Gregg DeLorto and Tim Gunne, bass player Bob Batman and drummer Wes Hunsinger. With his blonde Keith Relf-style hair, Steve was a striking front man who fortunately also possessed a decent voice, and with his father managing the group they were soon making waves throughout the area. A victory at a Battle of the Bands at the Hollywood Palladium put them on the map in Los Angeles, attracting the attention of producer Gary Paxton. By this time Wally Downing had joined on lead guitar, replacing Gregg DeLorto who had defected to the Spats. Paxton produced their debut single in late 1965, and it was released in January of the following year on his Starburst label. Paxton's business partner in Starburst was Lloyd Johnson, and the single's A-side was written by Lloyd's son Ken, who also recorded for Starburst with his group Ken & the Forth sic Dimension. Paxton had already produced a version of 'Love Can't Be A One Way Deal,' a couple of years earlier with the Rev-Lons, a girl group from Bakersfield, but the version by Limey & the Yanks took a completely different approach, turning it into a lovelorn garage number with a sound pitched somewhere between the Beau Brummels and the Beach Boys, with bright harmonies, mournful harmonica and a melodic twangy guitar solo. Swinging on a guitar hook based on Bobby Parker's 'Watch Your Step,' 'Guaranteed Love,' took a bluesier approach with a confident Limey vocal, stinging fuzz guitar, a concise harp solo and a rousing Bo Diddley-fied groove. The single was not a hit, but it added heft to the group's growing reputation. A second single, 'Out of Sight, Out of Mind,' was released in October, but it would be the group's last, although they did continue, through several lineup changes, into 1967. Limey's legacy lives on_

Brain Feelings is the debut EP from South London band moa moa. With glitchy synths, pulsing drums and catchy choruses, moa moa are proving that pop can be weird and accessible at the same time; the perfect psychedelic soundtrack to the comfortable tedium of life.

2021 saw moa moa ramp up the excitement around them with a pair of exquisite singles including the kaleidoscopic pop of ‘Drive’ – which features on forthcoming EP ‘Brain Feelings’ – and their Speedy Wunderground single ‘Coltan Candy’ which came out to rapturous acclaim from 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq, Huw Stephens, Don Letts, and Shaun Keaveny, and publications including NME, DIY, Paste Magazine, and Brooklyn Vegan.

The band’s debut EP ‘Brain Feelings’ explores states of emotional suppression and emotional unintelligence. James says, “I often feel that, when balancing every aspect of my life, I don’t have time left to process and express my emotions. The feelings just get stuck in my brain, making me feel insular, disconnected and less able to participate in the world.

Long before Lina Seybold became a geologist, the singer and guitarist was already writing songs and making a name for herself far beyond the city limits of Munich with her Steve Albini-trained (and produced) quartet candelilla, before the band dispersed into new projects. During her studies, she met Moritz Gamperl and the two realised that what they learned in rock research could also play a role in rock music. Thus, the material history of the planet became both a source of existential reflections for the two and the impetus for a highly accomplished and often graceful sound, which has been expressed in the band pirx together with drummer Sascha Saygin since 2019: Technically sovereign, obstinate songs that - with Seybold now on bass and vocals - create subtle dramaturgies, cinematic aesthetics, far-reaching arcs of tension.

With Lamina, the trio now presents an excellent debut album, recorded by Martin M. Hermann, which shoots out of the earth with explosive force as hot lava, only to flow into the valley in glowing beauty the next moment, changing the earth's surface, telling of elemental forces - until it finally evaporates the water in the sea and lays a comatose fog over all existence. Or in other words: pirx make creation music, in all directions of time!

Deep Purple’s “Bombay Calling – Live in `95“, will be released in a remastered Limited Numbered 3 LP Gatefold Vinyl as well as a Limited Numbered 2 CD Digipak, both versions including the Live-DVD! This live take had only been available on bootleg-quality DVD so far. “Bombay Calling” was recorded in early 1995 and is one of the first shows Deep Purple played with Steve Morse showcasing his virtuosic guitar skills and some of the new material would later make it onto the widely celebrated studio album “Purpendicular”. Astonishingly, the long thought lost master tapes for this unforgettable show in Mumbai were found lying around in an old cardboard box in November 1999. A true gem for any fan, they offer rare insight into the extraordinary talents of this phenomenal rock band. The Indian press gave the concert rave reviews, with many claiming it to be the best rock show ever staged in India.
