Garage rock supergroup The Surfing Magazines have announced Badgers of Wymeswold.
Consisting of one half of Slow Club and two thirds of The Wave Pictures, The Surfing Magazines’ primary influences are Bob Dylan, The Velvet Underground and all the great surf guitar music of the 1960s. They burst onto the scene with their eponymous debut album in 2017, a lauded LP described by Record Collector Mag as “a vintage-yet-modern rock’n’roll classic”.
Mixing the noir surf textures of 1960s garage rock along with west coast sun beaten harmony pop, the 17-track Badgers of Wymeswold follows the acclaimed debut and is to be released July this year. The London based foursome recorded the album at Ranscomb Studio in Rochester in February last year before the start of the first UK lockdown.
Pushing their sound forward, the band utilise their garage rock ethic and have both Drummer Dominic Brider and Rhythm guitar player Charles Watso lead on vocals across multiple tracks. The album sees a return of free form saxophone parts, eerie violins and piano all appear, notably on tracks ‘Nostaw Boogie’ and ‘I’m Going Out Tonight To Play Some Pool’. The title track is drawn from David Tattersall’s nightmare vision about his home town's population of self-governing people, the album artwork was also made by Tattersall and depicts a collage of his referenced dreams. The extensive LP showcases their characteristic sound at their brightest, from softer ballads such as ‘Poppies’ and ‘Silver Breasts’, surf guitar rock anthem ‘Locomotive Cheer’, and to the six bar blues ‘Pink Ice Cream’.
Recorded over the course of three years, the album features the contributions of over a dozen musicians, including Sam Doores (Hurray For the Riff Raff, The Deslondes), and Kinsey Lee (The Wild Reeds). There is a level of craftsmanship demonstrated in Thompson's songwriting that is rarely come by, as is the special
attention he gives to arrangement on these songs. Each track is its own living world, tied together by a distinctive overall aesthetic. Strings, clarinet, and steel guitar accompany a Slim Whitman-esque lullaby followed by muddy, howling, liveto- tape garage rock. Meanwhile, extravagant pop ballads are contrasted by stripped-down guitar-and-story folk. Thompson's sincere, expressive, and singular
voice threads together an odyssey of an album that makes for a familiar, strange, moving, and exciting debut.Duff Thompson is a songwriter, producer, recording engineer, and co-founder of New Orleans-based label Mashed Potato Records.
“Da Qween can rap and sing with the best of them,” says Seattle radio station KEXP. “One listen to this album and you’ll experience freedom, rebellion, ingenuity, and unabashed self-love.” Da Qween is a self-described reefer-smoking, black, queer, non-binary, hard-femme, and "Renaissance Bitch" is their vinyl debut. This undefinable album from Seattle's queen of queer rap has been praised for both "quick wit bars that cut, and smooth soulful vocals that are sexy as fuck." Look no further than the second track, “When Worst Comes To Worst.” It's three-and-a-half minutes of unrelenting, baller versus that will bury your favorite rapper with nary a breath. Da Qween’s “Renaissance Bitch” is an expansive, ambitious, and theatrical listen, with anthems for the club, for playing Nintendo, and for celebrating 420. By the end of this record you too will be screaming, “All hail Da Qween!” Crane City Music is thrilled to release “Renaissance Bitch” on limited-edition, purple vinyl. Only 500 individually numbered copies have been pressed, with liner notes from Eva Walker of The Black Tones.
The Travels represents a signpost in the continuing journey that is the songs of Berlin-based artist
Molly Nilsson.
Starting out by hand-dubbing CDrs and forging a singular path in the global pop underground, Nilsson’s art has grown to the extent where hers is a precise songwriting devoid of unnecessary flourish. Her songs are perfect silhouettes of feelings everyone shares but that few can articulate with such heart-rending, icy pathos. Out of print for 4 years and in collectors market hell, NIght School has pressed 500 of this Molly classic on Transparent GREEN vinyl for RSD21
Nach Nino Rotas Meisterwerk „Amarcord“ präsentiert CAM Sugar mit „Profumo di Donna“ einen weiteren
Soundtrack-Klassiker in seiner „Heritage-Serie“.
Ritchie in seinem Film „The Man From U.N.C.L.E.“ (2015) erneut einsetzte.

Möbius is an aerial ballet created by Cie XY in collaboration with the choreographer Rachid Ouramdane, and composers Jonathan Fitoussi & Clemens Hourrière.
One of the most sensitive sets of ears in Paris, GRM affiliate Jonathan Fitoussi meets Clemens Hourrière for a beautiful 3rd album called "Möbius". After their acclaimed "Five Steps" 2015 & "Espace Timbrés" 2018 on Versatile records, Fitoussi & Hourrière tethered again to the classic Buchla modular synthesiser, but this time for composed the soundtrack of an amazing aerial ballet in collaboration with Cie XY and famous choregrapher Rachid Ouramdane; Widescreen results

"For Möbius we have teamed up with two composers, Jonathan Fitoussi and Clemens Hourrière; for several years now they have shared a common passion for electronic instruments with their unique incredible sound. We soon found there was a lot of common ground between our own acrobatic research and the way they create music : their sounds meeting, colliding or clustering together in a slow and finely nuanced progression, requiring the same continuous adjustment as our own process. This constantly evolving music with its expansive percussion will leave the door wide open to flights of the imagination, transporting us to strange atmospheres, at times disturbing, at others invigorating..." “One of the standout releases of the year” - The Times
“Lady Blackbird finds her calling with an extraordinary collection of songs and performances that burn deep into you” - The Guardian, 5*
The debut album Black Acid Soul from Lady Blackbird is one of the standouts for 2021. It's instant and within a minute you are hooked. Think Nina Simone, Hot Buttered Soul-era Isaac Hayes, Billie Holiday and Chaka Khan with critics drawing comparisons to Adele, Amy and Celeste, Lady Blackbird’s distinct and beguiling talent is not one to be missed. Gilles Peterson called her "the Grace Jones of Jazz".
With a voice that has stopped critics in their tracks, Lady Blackbird is a revelatory new talent with music that transcends the jazz scene through which the LA-based artist is rooted. Minimal yet rich, classic yet timely, the album connects backwards to Miles Davis (his pianist, Deron Johnson, plays Steinway Baby Grand, Mellotron and Casio Synth throughout) and forwards to Pete Tong (he made the Bruise mix of ‘Collage’ his Number Two Essential Selection tune of 2020).
It's 11 tracks have a sound, feeling and attitude that speak of Lady Blackbird's deep experiences in music, stretching all the way back to infancy. Standout tracks include the sad, elegantly simple tune, ‘Nobody’s Sweetheart’, plus two killer cuts written by Lady Blackbird and Seefried, ‘Fix It’ and ‘Five Feet Tall’. The former is an elegant piano ballad that sounds like a Great American Songbook standard sung by a woman on the side of the angels. Her ability to nail the song in the studio in minimal takes was clearly something to behold. The album also includes Wanted Dead or Alive, a rare groove classic recorded by funk/gospel collective Voices of East Harlem in 1973 and co-produced by Curtis Mayfield, an inspired reinvention on the aching 'It’ll Never Happen Again', written by Tim Hardin and a stunning take on Nina Simone's Blackbird.
A quick introduction to the soulful recording artist Al Lindsey.
Al Lindsey was born in a small town in Gordonsville, Virginia. He moved to Detroit at the age of eleven. He found a voice for singing at the age of twelve and as a young lad at the age of fourteen he was to sing lead in the adult church choir. Al was performing in nightclubs at the tender age of sixteen.
As a Detroiter it is only reasonable he would be influenced by the sounds of Motown, with David Ruffin and Marvin Gaye as his childhood idols. Back in the day, Al was to perform with the current Four Top Lawrence Payton Jr prior to pursuing a solo career. His first recording was Always on my mind, a Northern soul classic. Followed by three albums, Al has since released his best work ever, Versatility.
In search of a new sound, he teamed with J&J2 Productions out of Saginaw. This production team consist of the dynamic father and son team, James Owens Sr and James Jr. There’s a strong message in this work, as was with Marvin Gaye’s classic “What’s Going On”. Versatility is the featured song on the cd, with it’s primary message addressing the beauty of diversity. Cotton Candy is a blazing dance track with the influence of Maze. Changed is a personal testimony, a must for his gospel fans. Midsummer Dream and Heavy Thoughts represent his trademark balladeer sound.
Al has shared the stage with some of the more prolific entertainers and musicians in the business. This soulful artist is destined for greatness.
This track got picked up on its digital release by any radio station and modern fans and a big than you must go to Mark Turner for introducing Al to MD Records.
Spiral is the third album by the Greek composer Vangelis, which was released in 1977. It is a concept album, thematically inspired by ancient philosopher Lao Tse. On the cover you’ll find the words “Going on means far. Going far means returning”, which originates from Tse’s philosophical and spiritual tradition/movement.
Just like with predecessors Heaven And Hell and Albedo 0.39 he recorded the album in his own Nemo Studios in London. The keyboards are prominent on front of the music, while Vangelis is exploring new electronic grounds. For the track “To the Unknown Man” Vangelis received the Midem International Instrumental Award in 1978.
The multiple award-winning composer of electronic, progressive, orchestral and jazz music started his career working in several successful bands, such as Aphrodite’s Child. He composed over 50 albums and is still active in developing new concepts.
The follow-up to Soul Asylum’s 1992
breakthrough album Grave Dancers
Union fell victim to heightened
expectations, but, contrary to the
majority of criticism in the alternative
music press, this was no major label
sell-out. While it was true that Let Your
Dim Light Shine boasted such radiofriendly tunes as the single “Misery”
(you know you’ve made it when Weird
Al Yankovic covers one of your songs!) and the electro-acoustic ballad
“Promises Broken,” the commercial success of Grave Dancers Union
allowed songwriter Dave Pirner the freedom to expand the stylistic
reach of the band and even sneak in some genuinely experimental
tracks, like “Caged Rat.” Being a mid-‘90s release, this
album was available on vinyl
for only a heartbeat; our Real
Gone reissue features the
original jacket and inner sleeve
art, and comes in a dark purple
vinyl edition limited to 1500
copies! Co-produced by Butch
Vig of Nevermind fame...
Former New York club CBGB’s soundman Tommy Victor founded Prong in 1987 as his outlet for sonic fury. Having their roots in the thrash metal and hardcore scenes, Prong carved a niche for themselves - groovy, angry, massive; just perfect mosh music. The trio wrecked stages and impressed audiences all over the world. Their first album on a major label, Beg To Differ, promised a bright future for industrial New York hardcore metal band Prong. Beg To Differ contains 10 hard-hitting tracks, of which the video for “Beg To Differ” got heavy rotation on MTV. The single “Lost And Found” was even used for commercial breaks of MTV’s Headbangers Ball in the early Nineties.
Magnum II is the eponymous second studio album by English hard rock band Magnum. Originally released in 1979, the album highlights the band’s trademark harmonies and punchy instrumentals. Magnum II is a diverse record, as it features ballads and adult contemporary rock, but also hints of prog rock and heavy metal. A track like “Great Adventure” contains catchy vocals, dynamic guitar riffs and inspired keyboards, while the acoustic “Reborn” showcases a more mellow side of the band. Magnum II was produced by Ten Years After bass player Leo Lyons.
Entitled "The Body Remembers", this 14 song collection is a well rounded

musical prodigy Sean Thomas. This recent Berkley graduate is Debbie's
