ENG This 2016 vinyl edition comes in LP picture disc with Gatefold Jacket, limited to 400 copies. Originally formed in Sweden in 1996, The Haunted have been playing around with metal and hardcore for the last 20 years, pleasing fans from both genres and becoming one of the most prominent bands both live and in studio. Revolver was the fourth studio album from 2004, giving shape once again to an agresssive riff machinery at high engine speeds.

Was?! 25 Jahre sind es schon?
Vor kurzem erst aus dem langjährigen Winterschlaf erwacht, mussten die SKINFLICKS feststellen, dass es nun doch schon ganze 25 Jahre her sind, dass die Band 1997 in Luxemburg gegründet wurde! Ein unserer Meinung nach willkommenes Datum zum ausgiebigen Feiern und Anlass genug, die wohl besten SKINFLICKS Gassenhauer auf eine explosive Schallplatte zu bannen!
Damit man sich bei der Gelegenheit überzeugen kann, dass die Band auch nach einem Vierteljahrhundert nichts an Relevanz und Frische verloren hat, glänzt die Compilation mit etlichen neueingespielten und exklusiven (!) Versionen alter Klassiker, so z.B. das ehrwürdige "Lionhearts" oder "Stick yer disco up yer arse!", ursprünglich aus dem Gründungsjahr bzw. 2000. Auch der Oi-Meilenstein "What I am", ein Song, der durch die Jahrzehnte hindurch so oft gecovert wurde, dass der Track wohl bekannter ist als die Band selbst, wurde neu aufgenommen und bezeugt, dass die Band nichts an Aggressivität oder offensivem Stolz eingebüßt hat. In neuem lyrischem Gewand präsentiert sich der Song "Smash the referee" - ursprünglich "Smash the Love Parade".
Wer bereits die nun extrem rare 2017er "Anthology" zum 20-Jährigen verpasst hat, weiß, dass man hier sofort zugreifen sollte! Sichert euch also besser gleich dieses Kleinod an Oi-Historie, mit unantastbaren Klassikern wie "Skinhead", "Kings without a crown", "Terrace terror" und vielem, vielem mehr.
Die Jahre haben den Songs nichts anhaben können; nein, diese sind nicht nur in Würde gealtert, sondern sind immer noch brandaktuell in ihrer Haltung. Auch die Band ist offensichtlich nicht eingerostet und so haben die vier Luxemburger Jungs bereits wieder begonnen, die ganze Welt mit Konzertreisen zu beglücken.
Also, worauf wartet ihr?

Die mysteriöse Atmospheric Death-Doom-Band JADE entfesselt mit 'The Pacification Of Death' unergründliche Tiefen in klangvoller Verderbtheit sowie atmosphärischer Dunkelheit. Mit unheimlicher Finsternis und überwältigendem Riffing haben Jade ein erstklassiges Genre-Debüt aufgenommen.
Aufgenommen, gemischt und gemastert von Javi Félez in den Moontower Studios, Barcelona (Graveyard, Teitanblood, Foscor, etc.) sowie erstaunliches handgemaltes Artwork des Zeichners Adam Burke (Loss, Occultation, Vektor, Evoken, etc.).

"...Das Cover weist schonmal in eine gute Richtung, da es auch recht viel Ambiente mit sich bringt. Als ich dann in "Pacification Of Death" eintauchen konnte, wurde trotzdem die Frage nach dem Genre nicht endgültig geklärt. Einerseits fühlt man sich in einigen Momenten an Death Metal erinnert (jedoch nicht der alten Schule aus den USA), viel öfter klingt das jedoch noch Black Metal, aber lässt sich auch hier nicht komplett einordnen. Doch wozu das ganze Geschwafel um das Genre, wenn wir es hier mit einem wirklich hochklassigen Album zu tun haben. Das Trio hat ein Brett eingespielt, das sich nicht so ganz einordnen lässt und das ist auch gut so, denn dadurch wird es spannend. Sechs Kompositionen finden sich auf dem Album und diese sind auch in sich recht abwechslungsreich..."

Summer at Land's End is not an interlude or tangent for The Reds, Pinks & Purples but rather a perfect fourth movement following the albums Anxiety Art, You Might Be Happy Someday, and Uncommon Weather. As with these self-recorded records (the primary work of songwriter Glenn Donaldson), the songs on Summer at Land's End were crafted slowly and then drawn together to make a unified statement. But here, and more than before, Summer at Land's End combines Donaldson's rueful pop sensibility with a parallel musical universe, one composed of pictures, dreams, and feelings without words. Even if the underlying theme of this collection is one of conflict or unhappiness, the vision of the music presents an escape to a new world, always fading in and out of sight. For listeners who may not be familiar with Donaldson's corner of San Francisco--the Richmond district--or the current wave of hazy, melodic DIY pop groups performing in the city, Summer at Land's End pulls in images and scenes that feel like a collision of the mundane and the sublime of this present landscape. With this record, The Reds, Pinks & Purples give less focus to the vanities of a subculture and more to the challenge of connecting with someone, to the ordinary goals of being human and finding harmony with others. This deliberate saturation in drama and ambiance, along with some of Donaldson's best songwriting to date, is what gives Summer at Land's End its special class in the project's discography. Of the album's cinematic mood, Donaldson refers to films like Summer of '42 and the influence of the classic 4AD catalogue of the 1990s. This style informs much of Donaldson's prior and current ventures of course (The Ivytree, Vacant Gardens, and a dozen projects in between) but now The Reds, Pinks & Purples have taken the mantle, embracing this instinct for instrumental or dreamier modes of pop songwriting. It's a pleasure to experience Summer at Land's End, as this record finds a thrilling balance between songs and sounds, instruments and voices, and the ironic twin poles of art and life.

1976 planten ex-Yardbirds-Sänger Keith Relf und seine Schwester Jane, Jim McCarty, Louis Cennamo und John Hawken, die ursprüngliche Besetzung der Band Renaissance, eine Wiedervereinigung. Doch der damalige Sänger und Gitarrist Keith Relf verstarb, bevor das Projekt in dieser Form umgesetzt werden konnte. In der Folge übernahm Jim McCarty, die akustische Gitarre und einen Teil des Gesangs. Schlagzeuger der neuen Band wurde Eddie McNeill, dazu kam noch John Knightsbridge an der Gitarre. Da die Band Renaissance jedoch in komplett anderer Besetzung fortbestand, musste ein anderer Name gewählt werden. Die ursprünglichen Renaissance waren nun Illusion. Illusion veröffentlichte 1977 und 1978 zwei sehr schöne Alben auf Island Records. Sie werden nun erstmalig als LP wiederveröffentlicht.
Das Mastering von den original Tapes wurde im renommierten AIR Studio von Paul Samwell-Smith (für 'Illusion') bzw. Phil Kinrade überwacht. Beide Alben kommen mit teilweise Spotlack im Artwork sowie bedruckten Inner Sleeves!

1988 debut from these US ska legends, finally reissued.

The renowned trio of Keiji Haino, Jim O’Rourke and Oren Ambarchi return to Black Truffle with their 11th release, “Caught in the dilemma of being made to choose” This makes the modesty which should never been closed off itself Continue to ask itself: “Ready or not?” Demonstrating once again their commitment to continual experimentation in instrumentation and approach, the record begins with a long-distance collaboration made in response to a commission from New York’s Issue Project Room in 2021 during widespread lockdowns and travel limitations. A unique piece in the trio’s extensive body of work, this side-long epic finds Haino performing on metal percussion, O’Rourke on electronics and Ambarchi on gongs and bells. Initially dominated by rapid patterns on resonant, high-pitched tuned percussion, the piece sets Haino’s dynamic and dramatic performance against a calm backdrop of cycling electronics, thrumming gong strikes and hanging bell tones. The performance develops a heightened, intensely concentrated atmosphere reminiscent of Haino’s classic Tenshi No Ginjinka or his Nijiumu project; when Haino moves to clashing hand cymbals in its second half, the piece’s ritualistic energy suggests aspects of the music of Tibetan Buddhism.

The remainder of the double LP documents the trio live at Tokyo’s SuperDeluxe (the location of all but their very first recording) in a wide-ranging set recorded in December 2017. The concert opens, in another first for the trio, with Haino on drums, O’Rourke on Hammond organ and Ambarchi on his signature Leslie cabinet guitar tones. Haino’s explosively untutored approach to the drumkit will be familiar to some listeners from the radical duo iteration of Fushitsusha heard on Origin’s Hesitation. Setting flurries of rapid activity against moments of silence, his drumming here at times suggests Milford Graves in its tumbling toms and thudding kick-drum propulsion. Accompanied by O’Rourke’s organ and Ambarchi’s guitar, which in their shared use of long tones and shifting modulation speeds almost blend into a single voice, the opening sections of this performance are some of the most magical music the trio has committed to tape thus far.

After an interlude of spoken vocals in both Japanese and English, Haino makes a dramatic entrance on guitar. Against O’Rourke and Ambarchi’s increasingly intense electronic backdrop, Haino unleashes a stunning passage of slowly moving chromatic melodies and sudden shrieking explosions bathed in distortion and reverb. By the time we reach the third side, the guitar/bass/drums power trio is established and lurches into a passage of massive, lumbering rock that threatens to fall apart at every beat, O’Rourke’s strummed chordal work on six string bass creating a harmonic density equivalent to a second guitar. An abrupt edit throws the listener in media res into a frantic locked groove grounded by fuzzed out bass patterns and caveman drums. As Haino moves through a variety of approaches, from massive edifices of stuttering fuzz to ominous swarms of feedback, the trio eventually stumble into a kind of Harmolodic military tattoo, Haino’s guitar weaving and slashing across the rhythm section’s irregular accents. Moving through an epic opening duet for O’Rourke on Hammond and Haino’s wailing guitar, the fourth side eventually ramps up into a frenetic finale of mad bass riffing, crackling snare hits and guitar squall.“Caught in the dilemma of being made to choose” This makes the modesty which should never been closed off itself Continue to ask itself: “Ready or not?” is a testament to the continuing power and invention of this trio, who continue to seek out new terrain after over a decade working together. 2LP set presented in a lavish gatefold sleeve on heavy stock along with inner sleeves containing live pics by Tsuyoshi Kamaike. The Cult has reveled in a storied career. From the pre-millennial iconic Love album bursting with idealism and the full on blast of 2001’s Beyond Good & Evil to the recent biting truth of Hidden City, the band has lived their art. The goosebumps come and, before you know it, you’re singing and dancing along. The horns combined with Black’s vocals gives this a real Brit Funk, Diana Krall meets Grace Jones vibe, with a side of James Bond. This is a real ‘smiler’. A great 45rpm for Betty Black’s first single. On the flip, TFF never fail to deliver a deep and inspirational instrumental featuring Kaidi Tatham on keyboards and Andy Ross on flute. Perfect DJ tool.
