The first Austin Psych Fest was held in March 2008, and expanded to a 3 day event the following year. From there the festival quickly developed into an international destination for psychedelic rock fans, with lineups spanning the fringes of indie rock, from up-and-comers to vintage legends, and capped off with headlining performances from The Black Angels each year. The Black Angels and Levitation helped spark a movement, inspiring the creation of similar events across the globe and a burgeoning psych scene that would soon ignite. The series captures key moments in psychedelic rock history, and live music in Austin, Texas. The artists and sets showcased on Live at Levitation have been chosen from over a decade of recordings at the world-renowned event, and document key artists in the scene performing for a crowd of their peers and fans who gather at Levitation annually from all over the world. When it comes to following the beat of their own drum, New York’s Psychic Ills have exemplified the phrase since their beginnings in 2003. Initially spawned from electronic-centered home recording experiments, they progressed into all-night full-band exploration in a neighborhood where noise wasn’t a problem. They soon after evolved into a live band seemingly at home within the extended jam, exploring a variety of musical terrain. The early years saw several releases for Social Registry, tons of time on the road, and collaborations with artists as diverse as Gibby Haynes (Butthole Surfers) and Sonic Boom (Spacemen Three/Spectrum). San Francisco band touches upon black metal, blues, ambient and more. Of all things, it’s laughter that pervades Mamaleek’s Diner Coffee, the San Francisco metal deconstructionists’ sonically crushing ode to the humor found within catastrophe, American diners, and “the little things.” Featuring a mix of live performances, samples, and field recordings, Diner Coffee laughs through its harsh songs in an attempt to reflect the camaraderie found at the heart of global calamities and changing personal situations. It’s an homage to the quotidian set to the backdrop of the mythologized, sanctuary-like properties of a diner, reveling in irony-less nostalgia. Mamaleek embodies this ethos on and off the record. Originally two anonymous brothers, the past few years have seen Mamaleek adding members and venturing into live performance. Diner Coffee, following in the footsteps of 2020’s Come & See, features new, unfamiliar, unknown voices—including expanded experiments with horns, woodwinds, and strings and a Bay Area-local blues harmonica player who improvised recorded selections during practices. The resulting tracks touch on signifiers from black metal, blues, ambient, and more. Diner Coffee simultaneously represents the band’s artistic progression and the state of the world. Growing up in his hometown of Atlanta, artist/producer Sol Messiah has always been inundated with the rich and energizing spirit of Hip Hop culture. But SONATA ARCTICA wouldn't be SONATA ARCTICA if they played it safe: 'San Sebastian' or the closing track 'Victoria's Secret' manage to spread a completely new, refreshing feeling to the listener; a feeling that is best experienced in front of a stage, of course!
To complete this particular saga and finally celebrate the kick-off of their next, repeatedly postponed 'Acoustic Adventures' tour to uplift the Corona-shaken Finnish and European mainland minds. "“The New Backwards” was conceived by Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson in 2007, revisiting stray tracks which hadn’t seemed to gel with the material he had chosen for the more somber “Ape of Naples” from 2005, COIL’s initial posthumous release, a sort of requiem and a kiss-goodbye to his then recently deceased partner John Balance.

Significantly different to its sister release, this album collects the brilliantly chaotic and outrageously rhythmic material from the original sessions for the album that was begun as early as 1993 and had originally been conceptualised as the follow-up to “Love’s Secret Domain”. These songs are as diverse and wild as the places they originated from, partly infamously spawned in Sharon Tate’s former home in the Hollywood Hills, the Nine Inch Nails home base in New Orleans and London’s Swanyard, remixed and restructured with the help of long-term friend Danny Hyde in Thailand, this collection has its own unique flow and an atmosphere not found on any other COIL release.

Both “AYOR” and “Backwards” had by the time the album was first released already become favourites in COIL’s manic live performances. Some of the other tracks had only leaked in demo versions and are here presented updated and polished as Christopherson and Hyde intended them to be heard. It is interesting to consider Balance’s vocal contributions, too. Whilst on the albums COIL did release at the time this material was first put aside (“Black Light District” and “ElpH”) his voice is all but absent, his vocal performances and his lyric writing here are arguably more closely indebted to the previous “Love’s Secret Domain” era, especially the epic “Copacaballa” is noteworthy in that respect.
The New Backwards” effectively became the final official COIL studio release of all new material whilst Peter was still alive and is here presented for the first time fully supervised by Danny Hyde, its co-creator.

It is high time to rediscover this timeless album with the Infinite Fog release boasting eight further tracks of previously unheard material from the same sessions, rough working stages and surprising remixes which will surely delight the dedicated COIL archaeologists, as they shine yet another light on the creative process and on what could have been.

Kurt Wagner fand sich im schwülen Sommer 2021 in Minneapolis in einer stillgelegten Farbenfabrik wieder, die zum Proberaum umfunktioniert wurde, als noch jeder jeden als potenzielle Krankheitsquelle betrachtete. Er vertraute sich diesem Pianisten, Andrew Broder, und seinem genialen Produktionspartner Ryan Olson an. "Ryan und Andrew sind wie zwei Seiten meiner Persönlichkeit", sagt Wagner. "Und wenn man sie als Team zusammenbringt, repräsentieren sie mich." Es wäre das erste Mal, dass Wagner eine Lambchop-Platte von jemand anderem produzieren lässt - noch dazu von jemandem, der keinerlei Verbindung zum heiligen, alten Nashville hat. Es war in dieser stillgelegten Lackfabrik in Minneapolis, wo Wagner einen Haufen ausgebrannter Freaks beim Spielen ihrer Instrumente beobachtete, die ihn zum Schreiben von The Bible brachten. Die Sessions erinnerten ihn an die lange zurückliegenden Tage im Springwater Supper Club in Nashville, als er zum ersten Mal die Afterparty zu sich nach Hause holte. Aber vielleicht, weil er diesmal nicht derjenige war, der die Regeln für die Afterparty aufstellte, ist die Musik auf The Bible unberechenbarer als je zuvor auf einer Lambchop-Platte. Jazz geht über in Country, in Disco, in Funk und wieder zurück in Country. Dies ist Lambchops neues Album - geboren an einem neuen Ort, aber aus einem Prozess heraus, den er zuerst zu Hause in Nashville entdeckte und der ihm half, seine eigene Stimme zu finden. Amen. Dies ist "The Bible".

Sublime unreleased soundtrack by Ron Geesin, to one of the most important and controversial films in British cinema history.

Side One is the score for Sunday Bloody Sunday, the controversial 1971 drama directed by John Schlesinger. Starring Peter Finch, Glenda Jackson and Murray Head, it tells the story of an open love triangle between a gay Jewish doctor, a divorced woman and a bisexual young male artist who makes glass fountains. Daniel Day Lewis also makes his uncredited screen debut as a yobbo scratching up posh cars. The films significance at the time of release lay in the depiction of a mature gay man who was both successful, well adjusted and at peace with his sexuality.

The music on Side Two comes from two different sources: tracks one to four are from the 1985 Channel Four documentary about Viv Richards. Simply called “Viv” it was directed by Greg Lanning, with words and narration by Darcus Howe. It was (and still is) a fascinating film recounting Richards’ rise from young talented Antiguan to global cricket superstar. It also explored the long history of West Indian players through the English game. Howe later recalled how seeing Viv Richards walking out to bat at the Oval (just down the road from where Howe lived in Brixton) without a helmet on no matter how fast the bowler was - and wearing his Rasta sweatbands of gold, green and red, was inspirational. The documentary was later re-titled ‘Viv Richards - King Of Cricket’ for the video market, and let’s face it, that’s a more commercial title. I’d strongly recommend trying to track it down to spend an hour or so in the company of Viv and Darcus. As I write this it’s still up on a popular online streaming site for free.

The last six cues of Side Two are from a 1970 BBC Omnibus film ‘Shapes In A Wilderness’. Directed by Tristram Powell this was a documentary about the importance and influence of art therapy in mental hospitals, tracing its origins from a painting hut in a wartime military hospital to its successful and widespread incorporation in institutions. It featured fascinating medical insights, disturbing imagery and Ron’s finely tuned accompaniment. On its original transmission John Schlesinger saw it and was heard to say “I must have that composer for my new film!”. And he got his way.

I could spend another paragraph analysing the music and stuff like that but you can listen and work all that out for yourself. But I will say that all the music just confirms the fact that Ron Geesin is one of the most underrated, inventive and versatile composers (and musicians) we have.

"De Oproeping Van Middeleeuwse Duisternis" vereint zwei frühe Veröffentlichungen der Ein-Frau-Black-Metal-Band Hulder. Die ersten fünf Tracks der Scheibe enthalten die "Rehearsal 8/13/18 Tape" Veröffentlichung, die ein Intro und gekürzte Rehearsal-Versionen der frühen Demotracks enthält, die in ihrer spontanen Härte und dem Tempo einer Live-Aufnahme ähneln. Ein Celtic Frost-Cover steht hier sinnbildlich für einen der Haupteinflüsse Hulders.

Bei den Tracks 6-8 handelt es sich um die Original-Demotracks von "Ascending The Raven Stone", der ersten Veröffentlichung von Hulder, die sofort den eisigen, traditionellen Black Metal-Stil ihrer Vorbilder aus der skandinavischen und französischen Szene der 1990er Jahre aufgreift. Ein bereits jetzt schon ausgeprägtes Gespür für Songwriting und Atmosphäre deutet auf eine im positiven Sinne düstere Zukunft des Projektes hin.

Dies sind die ersten Schritte eines Projekts, welches sich schon bald zu einer weiterentwickelten, aber nicht minder faszinierenden Form auf dem Hulder Debütalbum präsentieren sollte.

A multi-talented musician, singer songwriter and record producer full of tales to tell, Leonardo Marques has released three solo records – Dia e Noite no Mesmo Céu in 2012, Curvas, Lados, Linhas Tortas, Sujas e Discretas in 2015, and Early Bird in 2018. All of Leonardo's solo albums have been released in Japan by Disk Union and the latest one, Early Bird, has also been released worldwide on vinyl format by 180g x Disk Union.

Leonardo was the guitar player of Diesel (later called Udora), one of the main alternative rock bands in Brazil in the early 2000's. The band was on the main line up of the Rock in Rio III Festival, playing for over 250,000 people as an opening act for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Silverchair, and Deftones. Leonardo then moved to Los Angeles with the band and signed a record deal with Clive Davis (J Records / RCA) and worked with Matt Wallace (Maroon 5, Faith No More), Gavin Macklop (Goo Goo Dolls, Toad the Wet Sprocket), Camus (David Byrne, Arto Lindsay), Bob Marlette (Black Sabbath, Tracy Chapman, Alice Cooper), and 16-time Grammy Award winner Thom Russo (Michael Jackson, Audioslave, Johnny Cash, Maná).

This is a remastered reissue of Jesse Malin’s third album, Glitter in the Gutter, originally released in 2007 on Green Day’s Adeline Records. The album has been unavailable for years, and has never appeared digitally until now. The album features Bruce Springsteen, Ryan Adams, Jakob Dylan, and more on various tracks. It also includes a bonus track, ‘The Angel To The Slave,’ which has never been released. In the words of Jesse Malin, “I am really happy to have it out there in the world again.”

"Then the virus stroke and we, consequently, had too much spare time… and idle
hands are the devil's tools, so we've constantly been working on the tracks for
almost two years. That's the reason why the record is going to be released in two
very different versions: the vinyl edition contains the original US recordings, the
cd/digital version contains four extra tracks. It has been mixed in Italy in a very
different way and the mastering has been made by Brian Lucey (The Black Keys/
Arctic Monkeys/Royal Blood). And, last but not least, there are two very special
guests: Mike Zito on two of the tracks and Bombino on another.

2004 saw the release of Monster Magnet’s sixth studio album Monolithic Baby, the follow-up to 2000’s “God Says No”, which cemented the Red Bank, NJ rockers in the world of space rock and roll. The debut 7” vinyl from bloody/bath ‘Idle Hands’ is also the debut release by Kooky>Too, an offshoot of Kooky Records est 1996 (previous output including the acclaimed Durutti Column album ‘A Paean To Wilson’). This limited 7” is a peach – a gloomy neu wave banger for our gloomy fin de siècle death-spiralling age. And it’s increasingly relatable - previous bloody/bath digital single ‘Washed Out’ was championed by Lauren Laverne on 6 Music. Limited to 300 distro copies – black vinyl – 300gsm spined sleeve – reverse board printing. Sonically a bout of sleep paralysis, emotionally a midnight text from your favourite ex, bloody/bath are feverish, infectious and bewitching taking a post-punk passage that sounds distinctly their own. Catchy melodies dance throughout the tracks, disguising a heaviness, a desperation, drowning somewhere beneath the surface. Louder Than War describe the bloody/bath sound as “Stop-The-Clocks pop. Music to submerge yourself in. Wallow deep, then count your blessings”. Summoned initially by Northampton singer-songwriter Kailan Price, but now a fully fledged five-piece band, interest has been soaring following their incendiary live sets invited to play for Slow Dance at the Brixton Windmill, and other shows in London, Bristol and Bedford with Ritual Howls, Do Nothing and Minor Conflict. Bloody/bath have steadily created a large following on spotify with over 1.8 million streams and over 36,000 monthly listeners - particular streaming numbers in London, Berlin and across Eastern Europe - their sparse expanses, concrete homogeny and heavy atmospheres - perhaps testament to what bloody/bath are creating and why people are listening. At the core of Death Valley Girls, vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Bonnie Bloomgarden and guitarist Larry Schemel channel a modern spin on Funhouse’s sonic exorcisms, ZZ Top’s desert-blasted riffage, and Sabbath’s occult menace. On their third album Darkness Rains, Death Valley Girls churn out the hypercharged scuzzy rock every generation yearns for, but there is a more subversive force percolating beneath the surface that imbues the band with an exhilarating cosmic energy.
