Polish beats-wizard Emapea returns to Cold Busted for a quick double-shot of crucial dub and phat riddims. Released on 7-inch vinyl, Emapea’s new single celebrates the return of the good life with choice sounds for ‘zoning out’ in the global dancehall. “Same Old Same Old” occupies the A-side with a potent downtempo skank and an infectious sing-song vocal. The vibe is introspective and heady, as echoed percussion swirls through the soundsystem speakers. Flip the wax for “Drop the Bass,” a deeper dancefloor cut with a prominent boom-bap beat and bouncy bass line. Maximum dub pressure is exerted, with splashes of delay effects and rhythmic flourishes as an emcee gives “direction to the entire planet.” In the hands of a top selector, Emapea’s new tracks are ready to move the soul.

Finding a rich seam in stark minimalism, soundsystem pressure and fractalised rhythm, Cassius Select is at the vanguard of contemporary broken beats and punishing low end.

This new Select transmission comes correct on Bruk, prodding at the same bold dance futurism already laid down by Siete Catorce and FFT, whilst sounding nothing like either of them. 'Dread Percent's swelling pads and dislocated MC shards are a foil for the ruff angles of 'Fish Tek'. 'Mess Mutual' teases and stalks at a lower tempo and then twists up another set of bars over a bed of alien drone, laying the groundwork for the massive, grime-licked hooks of 'Shake Like Me'.

Hinting at the anthemic while remaining steadfastly cool and deadly, Cassius Select's mutant brand of club has the space and versatility to slip between scenes, doing damage wherever it lands.

“It was important just to get some new music out sooner rather than later,” says Thomas Sanders, the singer and guitarist of Teleman. “Making an EP felt like we could be more spontaneous and try things out without the pressure and expectation surrounding an album release. So it was a more fun experience I'd say.”

However, a fleeting, throwaway stop gap this is not. The EP is as realised a piece of work as any the band have created. Although the sense of fun, spontaneity, and intuition that Sanders speaks of can be palpably felt across the breezy five tracks here that span art rock, electronic pop and that unshakable idiosyncratic tone that is always unmistakably Teleman.

Sometimes, the best place to begin is at the end. If you really want to dig deep into Illusory Walls, the fourth album by THE WORLD IS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE & I AM NO LONGER AFRAID TO DIE, it definitely helps to do that. That's because epic closer "Fewer Afraid" -all 19 minutes, 44 seconds of it-doesn't just revisit the themes and ideas on the ten songs that precede it, but also offers a self-aware summary of the Connecticut band's entire history. It's the conclusion of all the stories within the record as well as a nod to all the lives that helped make them-little glimpses of everything that's come before, on both a micro, immediate level, and a more universal one. "That song is a higher level look at my whole life and the whole world," explains vocalist/guitarist David F. Bello, "as well as the album, our band and our discography. It places the band in the context of the rest of the world, as if we're listening to everything that came before. It touches on all the themes of the previous songs, but there are also callbacks to songs from earlier in our career. But in this song, they're the object, not the subject-I'm talking about a world in which these things happen, not talking about these things happening." Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the band-completed by Steven K. Buttery (drums and percussion), Joshua Cyr (bass/vocals) and Katie Dvorak (vocals/synth)-had nothing but time to realize the full extent of their musical and thematic aspirations. And so, four years on from lauded third album Always Foreign, they were able to make what is undoubtedly the band's most ambitious and epic record to date. Written and recorded remotely-a first for the band-Illusory Walls takes on the weight of human existence while it's buckling under the pressure of today's near-dystopian society. Personal anxieties and political struggles collide with a series of portentous, apocalyptic and dramatic tunes, resulting in some of the darkest music the band has made since forming in 2009.

Faithful to its praise of collaboration, this fifth release will be no exception: Anetha invited the prodigious Alex Wilcox in a 4-tracks emotional roller coaster adventure entitled « It’s okay to cry ». Because yeah, newsflash : it really is.

Embark for a jazzy-cowboy-bepopesque-techno ballad in Funky Blender (A1). At first, you’ll feel the sharp blades twirling by your ear: Alex Wilcox chops up what’s left of our sorrow then smooths it up with some soul in it through that « groovgeous » bass saxophone. Featuring Latrice Pink, Alex Wilcox shows some damn good maestria in glitched and vocal effects with RESPOND! (A2). The urge to let it go is relentless. So irrepressible that you let the boisterous uptempo drumming race sweeps you in direction of that point of no return where you’ll have nothing else to do but finally release. And here we are, Paris, Texas (B1), where two universes collide. Both Anetha and Alex Wilcox discharge their heart into two beautiful tunnels of grief intertwining into one bomb aquatic transe track. The drop you’ve been waiting for is here and it’s okay to cry, honey. Alex Wilcox upbeats one last time our journey in a spooky, spine-chilling electronic course in BOO. (B2).

These people know how to make great hardcore punk, and Make Me Sick is White Stains doing just that. While White Stains isn’t as as blistering as Loose Nukes or as brutally intense as Blood Pressure, that’s only because they’ve taken a different tack here, channeling the snotty, punky hardcore of bands like the Circle Jerks, Sick Pleasure, and Chronic Sick. Of those bands, Circle Jerks is the most apt comparison given how White Stains’ snottiness comes along with so much catchiness and rhythmic density. This is a special one. Very much indeed. I was on a train on my way to Galicia earlier this year when my phone started off. It was Mike. Me and him exchange a call every now and then, so I thought it was the classic how-you-doing thing, which of course was. Only that this time the call ended with him saying “I’ve emailed you something, a couple of vocal takes plus the only music line that survived that session which is some great drumming by Gad”. Nothing more. Gad (scratches head)? Who the hell is Gad? When I arrived at destination and found some steady wifi connection I downloaded the stuff and found out “who the hell” Gad was. Nothing less than the “most recorded drummer in the history of soul music” aka James “Big Foot” Gadson who, beside the Kirklands, in his career has been drumming for the likes of Marvin Gaye, Charles Wright, Bill Withers, The Temptations, Martha Reeves, Quincy Jones, you name a Soul Star or a famous album, or a legendary recording session, he was there beating snares and kicks. Having been much satisfied by our work on the “Love Scenario” release Mike wanted us, and I quote him literally, “to do our magic”. We did our best of course, but you just can imagine the pressure. This time we went the extra mile though because at some point, listening again and again to the verses and choruses I figured out it would have been a great experiment to give an ultra retro feel to an original recording of 1980. So, while we were doing our thing I’ve asked my mate Paul from Blue Lotus Recordings in Saint Louis, if they could “do their magic” themselves. They gladly accepted the challenge, I handed them over the vocal takes and Gad’s drumming and the result is this 4 tracks 7”/33 rpm biscuit which we hope you will enjoy as much as we all have enjoyed producing it.

Repress of the praised Armaguet Nad full EP on Grave Yard !

After the demise of the Ooga Boogas in the Before Time,
the four band members went their very separate ways. Being
in that band was such an intense high pressure experience,
some chillax time was well-deserved.
Leon Stackpole aka Stacky recorded under the name
Leon, Per Byström joined Voice Imitator, Mikey Young
recorded with The Green Child and Richard Stanley
played in Drug Sweat. All quite deserving projects, but it
was Stackpole’s solo outing that garnered the most interest
from public and industry alike. The demand for live shows
led him to recruit Byström from Ooga Boogas and a guy
named Brad into his touring lineup.
The trio was red hot, but inevitably the venues they
filled required a fuller sound so Stackpole recruited Young
as well on second guitar. The gruelling touring schedule
became too much for family-man Brad, so Stanley jumped
in to fill his size 11s and off they went for another lap of
regional Victoria.
Eventually the question presented itself to this freshlyminted
foursome: should they continue as Stackpole’s
backing band or strike out anew with a fresh identity? The
answer came in a moniker too electrifying to resist; a name
as clever, enigmatic and indeed, as powerful as the band
itself: Power Supply.
Back in the shed, jams became songs, jokes became
lyrics and long afternoons spent together became this record—
listen though, and one will hear life through the lens
of Stackpole and the tactile tentacles of his pals. In The
Time Of The Sabre-toothed Tiger contains ten songs that
listen so easy, one will barely notice when they’re gone.

Repress of Turnstile’s second album and debut for Roadrunner Records ‘Time & Space’. The album saw the band gain their first real acclaim including ‘Album of the Year’ for Kerrang Magazine.

Their most recent album ‘GLOW ON’ came out end of August and has seen the band’s reputation leap even further with amazing reviews across NME, Kerrang, DIY and more and charting in the UK Album Charts for the first time.

Skudge's back catalog features some of the finest moments from the 10's. Putting aside the powerful EP's, guest appearances and remixes, the album 'Phantom' initiated a consolidated, and perhaps a more liberated, side of the signature sound of which we are no strangers.

Perhaps the most difficult task in creating something is to follow simple truth's. The adrenaline spiked and dusty tunage from the Stockholm studio, has now been revisited in this new decade and reduced even further.

In this new series from Skudge, the tracks 'Pressure Drop' and 'Realtime' are remodeled and retuned. Not as a reminder of what has been, but more as a result of reaching a different conclusion and expression.

Concentrated on the skeletal parts of the originals. Rebuilt into alternatives that reflect a sifted and interestingly constrained sonic palette. This further shows how Skudge not only inspire the community, but are also inspired by their own history.

For all overthinkers and introverts. On their debut album "Smalltalk & DMCs", the Berlin indie-pop trio Varley finds strength in vulnerability. The result: an album like a good friend.

The indie-pop trio Varley is Dublin-born Claire-Ann and German band mates Joschka Bender and Matthias Heising. Initially influenced by Bon Iver, and citing the likes of Fleetwood Mac, The Cardigans and Phoebe Bridgers as other notable touchstones, what lies at the core of Varley’s affective, heart-on-sleeve music is its willingness to be vulnerable. Their music is an honest and raw outlet, and the cathartic nature of their songwriting is one to be championed.
