"Doctor Dark" ist das neueste Meisterwerk von San Franciscos schrägster
Beat-Combo, das sich zwischen seliger Electronica und Thrash Metal
bewegt, wie es nur The Residents können. Produziert wurde es zusammen
mit dem San Francisco Conservatory Of Music und einigen bekannten
Gästen und Mitwirkenden. Die 16 neuen Tracks erzählen in 3 Akten die
Geschichte von zwei jungen Metal-Fans Maƽot und Mark, die in den
Bann des mysteriösen Doctor Anastasia Dark geraten.

So laut das Duo auch wird, so lässig agiert es am Ende und schüttelt laufend groovende Garage-Knüller aus dem Ärmel, die durch und voller Pop-Momente. Klar, bei THE PIGHOUNDS steckt 90er Alternative drin, Punkrock, Grunge, stets eingängig und catchy – und auf "Tutti Frutti" sind einige neue Seiten zu hören, die durchaus zu überraschen wissen. Aber sie haben auch den Pop geschluckt und schreiben Hymnen und Hits, wenn sie nicht immer einen Tick zu kratzig und ruppig sind.

Der in Brooklyn ansässige Produzent und DJ Ryan Crosson gibt sein Debüt bei FRNTR mit seiner LP 'We Can Only Ever Be How We Are'. Seine Arbeit an dem Album abseits der Tanzfläche in den letzten zehn Jahren zeigt seine künstlerische Weiterentwicklung, während er mit seinem experimentellen musikalischen Schaffen weiterhin Grenzen erforscht und überschreitet.

Do It With Soul is back with another healthy dose of dancefloor fun featuring a pair of well-executed new edits. On the A-side of this limited edition 7" is 'Get Up Gaff,' a James Brown-inspired rework with some nice analogue 808s driving forward the raw vocal loops and jacked-up drum hits. On the flip, 'Mango In the Jungle' channels more James Brown energy as it collides 'Mango Meat' with 'Give It Up and Turn It Loose.' The result is a wild mix of funk breaks, squealing organs and soulful vocal details that keep things moving and grooving.

CASQUIAT's ability to balance heavy, floor-filling beats with thoughtful, experimental layers is on full show in this new 7" from DATUM. The two cuts push the boundaries of hip-hop and bring in a raw electronic edge. 'The Stopper' is a high-energy cut that collides skittering percussion and intricate rhythms to make for an intense yet hypnotic club vibe. In contrast, OG Ranks takes a deeper, more introspective route with moody undertones, spacious production, and a sharp focus on atmospheric tension. They make for a fine yin and yang and cannot fail to make their mark in the club.
