Die Punkrock- und Metal-Superhelden MUTOID MAN - bestehend aus CAVE IN-Sänger/Gitarrist Steven Brodsky, CONVERGE-Schlagzeuger Ben Koller und dem neu hinzugekommenen HIGH ON FIRE-Bassisten Jeff Matz - haben ihr neues Album angekündigt: "Mutants", erscheint am 28. Juli via Sargent House! Brodsky und Koller, die eine fast telepathische Chemie besitzen, haben sich schon immer dadurch ausgezeichnet, dass sie ihre eigene, einzigartige Art von rasendem, hyperfokussiertem, dynamischem und exzessivem Griffbrett-versiertem Metal kreieren. Wenn man zwei Musiker nimmt, die in der Hardcore-Welt aufgewachsen sind und schnell die technischen Anforderungen übertrafen, um selbst die anspruchsvolleren Varianten dieses Sounds zu spielen, und sie dann dazu bringt, sich gegenseitig spielerisch in unverschämte und eingängige Gefilde zu drängen, erhält man eine grobe Annäherung an den MUTOID MAN-Sound. Aber mit dem neuen Bassisten Jeff Matz im Schlepptau hat man nun ein Dreiergespann von Prog-Level-Spielern, die sich dem Metal mit punkiger Respektlosigkeit nähern, auf "Mutants", einem Album, das ihre bisher gelungenste und verblüffendste Leistung darstellt. Nach dem Erfolg ihrer Debüt-EP "Helium Head" (2013) legte die Band in den nächsten vier Jahren eine manische Arbeitsmoral an den Tag, brachte die beiden Alben "Bleeder" (2015) und "War Moans" (2017) heraus, tourte unermüdlich durch die USA und Europa und wurde nebenbei so etwas wie eine De-facto-Hausband des angesagten New Yorker Metal-Clubs Saint Vitus. Mit Tourdaten im Vorprogramm von Acts wie MASTODON und DANZIG schien es, als sei MUTOID MANs Eintritt in die Oberliga der Heavy Metal-Helden unvermeidlich. Doch zwischen Besetzungswechseln, einem Exodus aus Brooklyn, einer Reihe anderer musikalischer Projekte und einer Pandemie wurde die Band inmitten ihres Aufstiegs auf Eis gelegt. Aber nach einer sechsjährigen Aufnahmepause sind MUTOID MAN zurück, um mit "Mutants" ihren Thron zurückzuerobern

Born from their shared love for heavy music and 20 years of experience in playing together, THE GORGE consists of four jazz musicians who use the project as a creative outlet besides their day jobs as session musicians and music educators. Triangulating the chaotic yet groovy energy and the guitar masterclass of Botch with the riffage of Mastodon and the nimble instrumental intricacy of Animals as Leaders or Intronaut, Mechanical Fiction is an immensely ear-pleasing collection of tasty riffs and complex compositions that are nonetheless free-flowing like a river smoothly carving its winding path through a rugged landscape. With their third full-length album, THE GORGE take you on a giant voyage of discovery from which an incredible amount of joy can be experienced. Besides being wizards at their instruments, the quartet from St. Louis also prove to be incredible composers who know when to shine and when to take a step back, which is a rare feat in progressive music these days. John(ny) Golden gilt darüber hinaus seit den späten 60er Jahren als einer der gefragtesten Mastering-Engineers überhaupt und hat bereits mit Künstlern wie The Fifth Dimension, Bill Withers, Earth Wind & Fire, Iggy Pop, Sonny Rollins und Brian Eno zusammengearbeitet. 1982, als er bei K-Disc in Hollywood als Tontechniker arbeitete, wurde John mit dem Mastering der TV Party-Single der Punk-Koryphäen Black Flag beauftragt, was zu Arbeiten für Sub Pop, K Records, Touch & Go und den gesamten SST-Katalog bis 1991 führte. Auch Daptone/Wick Records zählen zu Johnny Goldens treuen Kunden und releasten bereits 2020 eine 7inch von Johnny's Uncalled Four und gipfelt jetzt in der Veröffentlichung dieses lange verschollenen Albums.

Barcelona's Oscar Escapa debuts on DCLTD with a trio of searing cuts. 'Motion' brings in a propulsive atmosphere, a building tool essential for every set. This double EP is a recognition of the Syko & Mak era and those who used to come to the shops just to hang out and listen to the latest white labels. It includes remasters of 3 of those original tracks from 1992 as well as 5 previously unreleased tracks from 95/96. The 3 original tracks on this EP spark some of those best memories. Including hearing Grooverider play the first test press of "Here & Now'' at the Fantazia Rave at Castle Donnington. Standing at the back and watching the 28,000 crowd lose their heads to our track was unforgettable ! Trading DATs with LTJ Bukem. He'd travel up to Hitchin on a Sunday just to share music, "Journey into the Nebulous" was the first track we gave him. The first play of "Rough & Dangerous"... A hazy memory of an Exodus rave in a wooded enclave somewhere near Luton. Unforgettable memories..
