Als Progressive Metal getarnt verdrehen The Hirsch Effekt auf ihrem sechsten Langspieler "Urian" wieder die Gewohnheiten. Das neue Album taucht musikalisch tief in die immer aufdringlicher werdende Ambivalenz aus Krisen und Alltag ein. "Urian" wird der ungebetene Gast genannt, dessen Begegnung meist ziemlich unerwünscht ist. Eine knappe Stunde fesselt es dich klanglich und weist mit einer hinterlistigen Umarmung geschickt auf all den schief gewickelten Mist hin!
"Urian" nimmt sich Zeit, lässt uns zwischen kraftvollem Dauerprasseln atmen und Luftholen. Harte Ansätze vor atmosphärischen Collagen - mal einfühlsam-akustisch, mit ausgefeilten Gesängen und groovigen Passagen - bis dir Urian wieder derb in die Seite prügelt. Deutlich weniger konzeptuell als das 2020er Album "Kollaps" ist es dennoch eine absolute Weiterentwicklung. Textliche Chiffren wirken intimer, Bezüge und Verweise liegen scheinbar klar auf der Hand. So werden sozialpolitische Themen besprochen, bei denen die Musiker sich selbst und die derzeitigen Entwicklungen kritisch hinterfragen. Neben Bots, die sich in Insta-Kommentaren demokratie-zersetzend in menschliche Köpfe einnisten, geben THE denen eine Stimme, die keine haben oder denjenigen, auf die all das schöne Leben noch wartet. Aus diesem zwar dystopischen, allerdings klaren Welt- und Werteverständnis erwächst eine gesittete Hoffnung, dank der "Urian" noch zum Tee verweilen darf.

* In 1993, Andy C & Ant Miles set out about creating a fourth release for the newly established Ram Records, now just a year old. With Hardcore still prominent in the clubs around the world, The Touch features rollercoaster bass swoops against energetic breaks flowing around the main sung vocal "c'mon and touch me".

An early sign of the precision arrangements that became synonymous of Ram's early sound that followed over for many years. Whilst going through the remaining samples in the sampler that had not been used on the A side, the pair suddenly went on a tangent with one of the drum breaks.

Experimenting with the new time stretch function in the Akai sampler, they soon had a shuffle groove layered and moving. With Ant Miles' sculpted and edited arpeggio bell line sample, a new overall sound and vibe was beginning to emerge out of their studio Atari ST computer.

Utilising an original organic analogue string pad, the haunting sinister vibe became complete. With the vocal from the BBC QED documentary 'Glimpses of Death' - "I felt, like I was in a long dark tunnel" all that remained was one of the most memorable pounding bass lines to sit underneath it all.

The result was an instant impact on the scene, heralded as one of the first anthems of the Jungle genre. Multi award winning and the track that cemented Andy & Ant and their label Ram Records within the scene.

Originally released on Polydor Records in August 1981, it remains a very special and discrete record and has gone on to achieve a cult status separate from the rest of their august catalogue.

Formed at London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama by way of Paris and the Isle Of Wight, Level 42 marked the union of four talented friends – Mark King, Mike Lindup, and brothers Phil and Roland 'Boon' Gould – complete with Wally Badarou, their very own studio-based synthesiser whizz-kid. From building a fervent following through the nascent Britfunk scene, they signed to Polydor and went on to make a series of fascinating albums.

The sheer invention, melody and imagination of this four-piece was astounding, aided by their secret weapon, French-Belizean Badarou, whom the band had met playing sessions for M, Robin Scott's art-disco ensemble. Although Level 42 had recorded – and made waves – for indie label Elite, they signed to Polydor and released this album, with three of their original calling cards, Starchild, Turn It On and the mighty, UK Top 40 breaching Love Games.

By the mid 80s Level 42 had become arena-filling superstars, with their commercial pop-funk with everyman lyrics that delighted fans not just in Europe, but also in America, too. Hear the roots of that on this frequently surprising, always entertaining debut album. Think of this album as the missing link between Talking Heads and Herbie Hancock.

Out of print on LP for a number of years, this re-issue faithfully replicates the original 1981 Polydor UK release with insert and is pressed onto high quality 180g vinyl.

ENG The new Will Toledo from Austria? - LAUNDROMAT CHICKS is the music project of TOBIAS HAMMERMÜLLER, who just turned 18 and still goes to school. He recorded most of the songs from his debut on Siluh Records by himself. Live he performs them with his band featuring Lena Pöttinger (drums), Theresa Strohmer (guitar, vocals) and Felix Schnabl (bass). Felix Schnabel, on the other hand, has his own garage punk project called SALAMIRECORDER, with Tobias playing bass. Musically, the whole thing sounds like an exquisite jingle-jangle indie/twee-pop sound. It almost seems like a lost album from early influential labels like Flying Nun, Cherry Red, Postcard Records. The songs from "Trouble" were mostly written at home, in the bedroom, in front of the TV and at his favorite spot at the movies. The basic mood of the songs is mostly melancholic, though that you can still cook or dance to, or listen to on the bus when you're on your way to going out with your friends. Tobias Hammermüller took inspiration from the indie rock sound of the 2010s (Snail Mail, Chastity Belt, The Babies, Best Coast, The Drums) and from many new wave hits (Aztec Camera, Psychedelic Furs, Echo and the Bunnymen, Prefab Sprout). The lines of text are largely based on quotes from films. He is particularly fond of the old strips by Éric Rohmer and Wim Wenders, and from New Hollywood/Nouvelle Vague movies, because they often deal with identity crises and escapism, just like his songs.

In The Skies (1979) is the second solo album by British Blues Rock inventor Peter Green, who was the founder of Fleetwood Mac and a member from 1967-70. In The Skies was released almost a decade after his first solo stint The End Of The Game (1970).

Accompanying Green on this album were several experienced session musicians, including Snowy White, who went on to work with Pink Floyd before joining Thin Lizzy. White contributed some of the lead guitar work on the album. Also present was Green's colleague and friend from his earliest bands, Peter Bardens, and Robin Trower drummer Reg Isidore.

Five of the nine songs are instrumentals, continuing a longtime Green tradition. It's a solid and welcome return by a guitarist who in his prime rivaled Eric Clapton.

"Wet Dream" , das Debüt-Soloalbum von Richard Wright , nimmt ganz sicher nicht nur wegen seines Namens einen festen Platz in der Musikhistorie ein. Nun, zum 80. Geburtstag des 2008 gestorbenen

Der Reissue wurde von einem Großmeister der Zunft neu abgemischt, Steven Wilson . Freuen kann man sich außerdem auf ein brandneues Artwork, das von Gala und Jamie Wright, Richards Kindern und Nachlassverwaltern, autorisiert und gestaltet wurde. Wie bei der
Originalveröffentlichung lässt sich die zweifach gefaltete Hülle aufklappen, um das Bild zu vergrößern. Was sich lohnt, denn wie damals öffnet sich der Blick auf eine satt leuchtende Farbpalette.
Wenn man "Wet Dream" heute hört und für sich wiederentdeckt, wird deutlich, wie viel von Richards DNA in Pink Floyd steckt. Seine unverkennbaren Rhythmusmuster, die Songstrukturen und sein ganzer Stil des Spielens - all das ist hier in Reinform zu erleben und unterstreicht sein einzigartiges Talent und seinen Einfluss auf die moderne Musik.

Für das Album “Pre-Bird”, das später auch eine Zeit lang unter dem Titel “Mingus Revisited” zirkulierte, hatte Charles Mingus ausschließlich Musik aufgenommen, die komponiert worden war, bevor er das erste Mal Charlie Parker gehört hatte. Die Aufnahmen entstanden im Mai 1960 bei Sessions mit zwei Ensembles, die mit Stars gespickt waren: einem bunt schillernden 25-köpfigen Orchester und einem wendigeren Tentett.

Neben sechs älteren Kompositionen von Mingus standen zwei kontrapunktische Arrangements von Stücken aus der Swing-Ära auf dem Programm.

Das letzte OXO86-Studioalbum aus dem Jahre 2022 endlich wieder auf Vinyl erhältlich. Schon nach wenigen Tagen war die damalige LP-Erstauflage vergriffen. Jetzt gibt es das Erfolgsalbum als Reissue mit neuem farbigen Vinyl und Gatefolder zeitgleich zum Release der neuen Scheibe "And the usual suspects" wieder im Handel.15 Songs inklusive der mittlerweile über jeweils 1 Million Mal gestreamten Singleauskopplungen "Auf in ein neues Leben" und "Manchmal" sind eine Extraklasse für sich und bedarfen keiner weiteren Vorstellung.

Bristol's soul jazz kings The Jazz Defenders release a new vinyl 45 single this autumn as a taster for their third album, which is destined for release in spring 2024. Once again, they are bringing together their love of 1960's soul jazz and golden era 90's hip-hop, just as they did on a couple of tracks on their last album "King Phoenix" (Haggis Records 2022). This new single sees them reunited with London MC/rapper Doc Brown, who guested on the track "Perfectly Imperfect", and his flow sits so naturally over the Jazz Defenders' music and beats, you'd think he's a permanent band member.

The A-side "Rolling On A High" is a real old school boom bap style party hip-hop jam. Big beats, rolling bassline (acoustic double bass), Ramsey Lewis soul jazz piano vamps, funky Hammond organ and some punchy horn section business, all topped off with Doc Brown bouncing bars back and forth with that laid back vibe he always brings to the mic. A guaranteed dance-floor bomb, whether you're a breaker, a jazz dancer or simply a Saturday night disco shuffler. The B-side "Looking Back" takes the tempo right down. An 'end of the night' number when the lights in the club are low, the last drinks are being drained and you're thinking and reminiscing about times gone by. The good times and bad, successes and mistakes. And made even more poignant and reflective halfway through when the mellow strings come into the song (once again excellently arranged by pianist/bandleader George Cooper). If "Rolling On A High" is the fire then "Looking Back" is definitely the ice. Proof that the Jazz Defenders can rock the party and grab the dancers but also dig deep with emotive tunes that draw in the discerning listener.

The Jazz Defenders, led by keyboard maestro George Cooper from The Haggis Horns, have been building a reputation as a great musical unit since their debut Blue Note/hard bop-inspired album "Scheming" appeared on Haggis Records back in 2019, which received a huge amount of praise from critics, and subsequently went on to spend 5 weeks in the top ten of the American jazz charts In 2021, their double A-side vinyl single "The Big Man/Love's Vestige" got them the breakthrough they deserved. It garnered heavy support on radio from top folks like Craig Charles (BBC6 Music), Helen Mayhew (Jazz FM), Jamie Cullum (BBC Radio 2), and Worldwide FM resident DJ's Ashley Beedle and Colin Curtis. They further enhanced their reputation as a rocking band with album number two "King Phoenix" and by electrifying audiences at sold out live shows across the UK, including the legendary Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London.

Album number three is well on its way but for now, check out this tasty limited edition 45 single on Haggis Records. The JDs and Doc Brown...the perfect combination, still keeping that sweet jazz/hip-hop love affair alive today.

Play Loud wird die gesamten Aufnahmen (siehe Liste unten) der Manchester-Post-Punk-Band GODS GIFT (1979-1985) veröffentlichen, einige davon zum ersten Mal überhaupt. Mark E. Smith von The Fall war Fan. Gods Gift-Gitarrist Steve Murphy hat 11 Songs für ihre allererste LP zusammengestellt.

Gods Gift gab es, als viele Manchester-Gruppen Ruhm und Reichtum erlangten. Manchester brachte einen düsteren Soundtrack für die musikbegeisterte Jugend dieser Zeit hervor. Die gotischen Katakomben waren der Nährboden für viel Zorn. Gods Gift wollte seine Wut und seinen Hass gegen eine Welt zum Ausdruck bringen, die auf nichts so Belangloses wie die Menschen hört. Wenn die Leute beim Konzert plapperten, wurde die Lautstärke auf ohrenbetäubende Lautstärken eingestellt, wodurch eine Wand aus dissonantem Lärm entstand, unterbrochen von den hymnischen Schreien eines weiteren wütenden Refrains

Vinyl mit Downloadcode. Die LP und CD Versionen dieses Albums unterscheiden sich in einigen Details: Nicht mit an Bord bei der LP-Version sind die Songs "Intro" und "Ends", die sich auf der CD finden lassen. Dafür gibt es auf der LP den Track ,Body And Blood" in einer längeren Version. Außerdem tummeln sich auf der D-Seite 100 Locked Groove Audio Loops, die exklusiv nur auf dem Vinyl auftauchen. ,CLIPPING. machen Partymusik für den Club, bei dem man sich wünscht, nie in ihm gelandet zu sein; das Auto, bei dem du dich nicht erinnerst, wie du eingestiegen bist und die Straßen, auf denen man sich nicht sicher fühlt." (Aus der Pressemitteilung für das CLIPPING. Debüt ,Midcity", das im September 2012 veröffentlicht wurde). Seit das verfasst wurde, hat sich einiges geändert für CLIPPING. Die Band fand heraus, dass die potentiellen Hörer bereiter für sie waren, als sie es erwartet hatten. Vor ,Midcity" erwartete keins der Mitglieder (Rapper Daveed Diggs und die Produzenten Jonathan Snipes und William Hutson), dass ihr kantiger Rap ein Publikum finden würde. Die Band war ursprünglich als Remixprojekt und Fußnote im wahren Leben der Mitglieder gedacht: Diggs ist ein Bühnenschauspieler; Snipes komponiert Filmmusik und Hutson ist ein etabliert Noise Musiker (Snipe und Hutson kollaborierten beim Soundtrack zur IFC Dokumentaion ,Room 237"). Doch seit der Gründung von CLIPPING. weitete sich das Feld der kommerziellen Musik leicht aus, so dass plötzlich Platz für mehr Noise und mehr Abenteuer in der elektronischen Produktion war (obwohl CLIPPING. selbst natürlich darauf bestehen, dass sie Rap Musik machen). ,Clppng" ist ambitionierter als ,Midcity". Das Album wartet mit Gästen wie Gangsta Boo (Ex-THREE 6 MAFIA und momentan bei DA MAFIA 6IX), Guce (Veteran der Bay Area; Mitglied von BULLYS WIT FULLYS), King T (Gangster Rap Legende der Westküste; Gründer der Likwit Crew; Mentor von XZIBIT und THA ALKAHOLIKS) und COCC PISTOL CREE (Newcomerin aus Compton, bekannt vom DJ MUSTARD Mixtape ,Ketchup"). ,Clppng" weitet die experimentellen Sounds der Band aus, um eine größere emotionale Palette zu bedienen. Doch die Band ist nicht zum Softie geworden; das Intro des Albums ist eins der brutalsten Stücke, das die Band je aufgenommen hat und ,Or Die" (feat. The only album to soundtrack both late-'70s Minneapolis lounges and a Travis Scott x Dior fashion show. Recorded in a host of living rooms with only a Fender Rhodes piano, a Donca Matic Mini Pops drum machine, and Senrick's wide-eyed, 20-year-old voice, the 1977 LP disappeared into the wild and joined the Wendigo in Minnesota lore. A provocative mix of marina soul, easy listening, and loner folk, Dreamin' is a sanguine sliver of the American private mind garden. Harsh winters coupled with a relative lack of interest amongst siblings allowed Chuck Senrick years of unfettered access to the family piano in their Farmington, Minnesota, home. Learning both by ear and by instruction, Senrick began gigging professionally at age 15, joining John Zimmer and the CR4 for a weekly rundown of Allman Brothers, Blind Faith, and Cream covers at the Sea Girt Inn in Lake Orchard. Tapping into James Taylor's pop-chart achievements in songwriting and enunciation, Senrick composed the bulk of the songs featured on Dreamin' before graduating from Farmington High School. At 20, Senrick migrated 30 miles north to the Twin Cities to pursue music full-time. Using borrowed equipment and borrowed living rooms, a string of informal recording sessions generated the quarter-inch tape for Dreamin'. "I didn't know how to do it," Senrick says about producing an album. "I just knew it could be done." Constructed with vocals, Fender Rhodes, and an assortment of rhythm presets on his Donca Matic Mini Pops drum machine, a mere 200 copies of the private-press masterpiece were stamped and sleeved and sold hand-to-hand at performances. Chuck's wife Lesli illustrated the album cover_a pen-to-paper portrait of her husband against the backdrop of the Minneapolis Skyline, she and their newborn son situated on a nearby knoll. Any plans for a re-press were quashed when producer Bruce W. Hansen lost the reels during a messy divorce. "I was a kid with big ideas and not much hope to do anything but play," Senrick said of the Dreamin' era. "It still amazes me that people are interested in it."
