'PURGE' musically, amongst the many layers of dirt, revisits and updates the concepts explored on the 'PURE' album from 1992; 90's hip hop grooves mangled and put through the GODFLESH filter to create something that is still unique and futuristic in style.

Both minimal and maximal, with layer upon layer of filth and heaviness, Godflesh deliver alien grooves that swing whilst also retaining the psychedelic / bad trip edge that Godflesh has always obsessed over. This is, and always has been, feel bad music; the title alone 'PURGE' references directly how songwriter / creator Justin K Broadrick utilises this music as temporary relief from his diagnosed autism and PTSD, a journey he has been on since he began creating music and feeling alone and as an outsider in any 'scene' or 'group' from childhood and throughout his adulthood.

Godflesh gives him the means to express a lifetime of feeling misunderstood and overwhelmed by hyper sensitivity, the band being the vehicle to give him some sense of catharsis and transcendence; a way of communicating overload and constant disenchantment at the human condition, and man's abuse of power and the systems that chain us.

The album references the cycle of horror that man has always and will always put us through; those in positions of power revel in the infliction of pain and horror upon individuals, in the name of their religion, their power, their money, their flags....

Emerging Glasgow trio Brenda release their self-titled debut album with

Brenda are Litty Hughes on guitar, Apsi Witana on drums and Flore de Hooge on
synths - with all three contributing to lyrics and vocals.They've created a name for
themselves by gigging across Glasgow - their energetic sets described as the

easily compared to the riot grrrls that came before them, it is clear that Brenda is

C&TH is heart-warming rock and roll originally from Boise, Idaho
Oneself, psych rock band, Clarke performing live with a drumstick in hand, guitar

rhythm laid underneath, with C&TH, she takes basement rock fuzz, pop precision,
molten neo-psych, weirdo gutter punk while singing exception art/psych damage
pop songs.

Seminal NYC multi-reedist Doug Wieselman announces arresting new album of birdsong arranged for clarinet, flute, banjo and piano WA-Zoh, released on Shahzad Ismaily’s figureight records.

Wieselman has performed with superlative greats (including the Lounge Lizards, Lou Reed, Yoko Ono, Bill Frisell, Iron & Wine, Laurie Anderson, Tricky, Martha Wainwright, Antony and the Johnsons, CocoRosie) and contributed significantly to the NYC Downtown scene over the past three decades. He is described, by NYC Jazz Record, as “a vital force in the New York music scene”.

Over the years, Wieselman has taken hours of recordings of birds both from his world travels and outside his window in Brooklyn. His beautiful new album WA-Zoh uses the recorded bird songs and phrases - slowed down and processed - as source material for original compositions, reflecting the astonishing beauty and inherent musicality of the natural world in a wholly unique take on field recording. Incorporating clarinets, flutes, banjo, piano and percussion, all played by Wieselman himself, the new album is marked step forward from his previous solo outings as a clarinet player, though no less accomplished in its composition, dexterity and skill.


The minimalism, patience, and subtlety here is delicately formed from featherlight interweaving lines of soft, virtuosic instrumentation, resulting in an album that sits somewhere between avian chirrup, rainforest prettiness, the refined intelligence of American minimalism, and the undecorated purity of ambient music.

On January 28, 2022, Lady Wray released her Piece Of Me album. A deeply personal record that takes on the good and the bad in life from deception and abuse to the joys of motherhood and triumph. The accolades the album has received in the year it has been out speak volumes. Performing on The Stephen Colbert Show, selling out multiple US tours, cleaning up in the best of 2022 lists, and then crushing an NPR Tiny Desk on the 1 year anniversary of the album.

Piece Of Me continues to find its way to new ears and has already proved itself a timeless classic. So where do you go from here? When Ghostface Killah reaches out and says he wants to do a remix of the title track you do that. The A side, "Piece Of Me" (Remix) features Ironman himself who puts down a verse about a relationship that ran its course but no one is sure they did the right thing in. Ghostface sounds right at home over the gully Leon Michels produced track and takes the already rock solid tune to another level. Then what do you do for a B side.... You call The Chocolate Boy Wonder, Pete Rock and get him to remix "Joy & Pain". Pete takes one of the stand out tunes on the album and gives it an entirely different energy with thundering drums and a bassline that shake the windows in the car.

Lo-Fi India Abuse was recorded in 1998, some tracks are “pure” Muslimgauze and some are re-mixs of tracks from Systemwide’s “Sirius” CD (see also Systemwide meets Muslimgauze “at the City of the Dead” 12″). Nearly all of the tracks have hand percussion in varying tempos and intensities and at least 1/2 make use of electronic noise surges. The sound is very crisp and clean, extremely well produced, recorded and nicely varied throughout the length of the disc. Some track by track comments: “Antalya” is obviously from the same sessions as “Fakir Sind” seeing as it shares the same hand percussion sound, whistles, vocal wailing, cut-ups and delays. “Valencia Flames” sounds like a Systemwide remix. A dub bass line, hi-hat and background vocal of some sort are all obliterated by numerous delays, starts, stops and re-starts with an unpredictable nature in these cut-up tracks. “Al Souk Dub” injects background voices, market sounds and drones into the cut-up mix of slow hand percussion playing. “Catacomb Dub” and the final two tracks make use of twinkling synth waves, presumably a Systemwide sound source. “Dust of Saqqara” has a heavy pulsating electronic sound wave over an old beat box rhythm. “Android Cleaver” is brutal (as is “Nommos’ Afterburn”) hand percussion, jabs of noise and an oft repeated, unintelligible vocal sample. Yes, Lo-Fi India Abuse is yet another great Muslimgauze release, grab it!

Georgia meldet sich mit ihrem dritten Album "Euphoric" zurück!

Als Co-Produzentin von Rostam (Haim, Carly Rae Jepsen, Clairo) hat Georgia zum ersten Mal mit einem anderen Produzenten an ihrem eigenen Material gearbeitet. The Feminine Divine’s arrival is heralded by today’s release of the glorious first single ‘I’m Going To Get Free’, soaked in horns and with a heavy dance-hall feel. "The character is optimistically breaking free from internalised trauma, depression and guilt," Kevin Rowland said of the track.

The Feminine Divine is Dexys’ fifth album of original material produced once again by Pete Schwier, along with acclaimed session musician and producer Toby Chapman. After taking some time out to refocus his energy, Kevin Rowland came back to music with a fresh perspective and new-found positivity. A personal, if not strictly autobiographical, record portraying a man whose views have evolved over time. Not just on women, but the whole concept of masculinity he had been raised with: an education and an un-learning that is traced across the arc of The Feminine Divine with dizzying effect.

With two tracks on the album with Goddess in the title in ‘My Goddess Is’ and ‘Goddess Rules’, it’s no surprise Kevin chose to use a painting inspired by Pele, the Hawaiian goddess of fire and volcanoes, for the artwork.

Dipping into the archives for a song he’d originally written in 1991, the album’s opener, ‘The One That Loves You’, is a tough-guy feint before he lifts the curtain on “what I really feel”, as announced by a classic bit of Kevin spoken word that leads into the second track, ‘It’s Alright Kevin (Manhood 2023)’.

The record’s first half is full of music hall-esque swagger, much of it written with original Dexys’ trombonist Big Jim Paterson. The second side of the record is like nothing Dexys have done before. A saucy, synth-heavy cabaret, written in collaboration with Sean Read and Mike Timothy. It’s steamy, fizzing and sultry, at times doom-laden and heavy and at other times raunchy and funky. Quite a heady mix.

Today the band is more of an “organic” assemblage – Kevin, Jim (a non-touring band member), Sean Read and Mike Timothy. “It’s always just natural with me,” says Kevin. “The inspiration comes first, I think about what I can do, what songs I’ve got, then approach the band.” He describes their current lineup as “very much the nucleus, these days.”

With over a billion worldwide streams, three top 10 albums in the UK, two number 1 singles, a Brit Award and a multi-platinum selling album with their sophomore release Too-Rye-Ay (as Dexys Midnight Runners), Dexys are as vital and exciting today as ever. With live shows set to be announced shortly in support of the record, The Feminine Divine marks a new chapter in a book that just keeps getting better and better.

Icelandic composer Högni"s score for the much-acclaimed Netflix"s series Katla will see its full release on July 28. The series takes place in Iceland, after the subglacial volcano Katla has been erupting constantly for a whole year, Gríma is still looking for her missing sister who disappeared the day the eruption started. As her hope of ever finding her body is fading, the residents of the surrounding area start to have visits from unexpected guests. There might be something hidden under the glacier no one could ever have foreseen. Speaking about the score, Högni says: "when I was asked by Baltasar Kormákur - the director and show creator - I started writing so when the filming was finished, I had already written a number of pieces for the show. As relatively in-experienced in the field I imagined that my work was finished and the rest was a matter of post-production and music editing. Icelandic composer Högni"s score for the much-acclaimed Netflix"s series Katla will see its full release on July 28. The series takes place in Iceland, after the subglacial volcano Katla has been erupting constantly for a whole year, Gríma is still looking for her missing sister who disappeared the day the eruption started. As her hope of ever finding her body is fading, the residents of the surrounding area start to have visits from unexpected guests. There might be something hidden under the glacier no one could ever have foreseen. Speaking about the score, Högni says: "when I was asked by Baltasar Kormákur - the director and show creator - I started writing so when the filming was finished, I had already written a number of pieces for the show. As relatively in-experienced in the field I imagined that my work was finished and the rest was a matter of post-production and music editing. Um wieder nach Hause zu finden, gilt es, die Insel bis in die letzte Ecke untersuchen und Monster auf Tape zu bannen, um ihre Eigenschaften zu erlangen! Joel Baylis gibt einen kurzen Einblick in seine Vision hinsichtlich des Soundtracks dem Resultat seiner Arbeit: "Mein Ziel war es, als ich die Musik für Cassette Beasts gemacht habe, etwas zu erschaffen, dass irgendwo zwischen einem Rollenspiel-Soundtrack und einem 80er Synthie-Rock-Album liegt. Ich denke, selbst wenn man diese Einflüsse in Betracht zieht, ist etwas höchst Eigenständiges entstanden. Es fällt schwer, den einen Genre-Stempel aufzudrücken, dafür versammelt die Musik zu viele Stimmungen und Stile." Darüber hinaus könnte die Freude bei Baylis über die Veröffentlichung des Soundtracks auf wunderschönem lila und mintgrünem Vinyl sowie natürlich auch auf limitiertem Tape kaum größer sein: "Die Stücke für den physischen Release wurden mit viel Bedacht ausgewählt und zusammengestellt, so dass alle Aspekte des Soundtracks perfekt in Szene gesetzt werden und das Produkt einfach großartig in jeder Sammlung aussehen sowie unter der Nadel klingen wird." Und da sich bei "Cassette Beasts" alles um die legendären Tonbänder dreht, haben sich Black Screen Records natürlich ebenfalls um eine limitierte Auflage von Tapes gekümmert. Die Punkrock- und Metal-Superhelden MUTOID MAN - bestehend aus CAVE IN-Sänger/Gitarrist Steven Brodsky, CONVERGE-Schlagzeuger Ben Koller und dem neu hinzugekommenen HIGH ON FIRE-Bassisten Jeff Matz - haben ihr neues Album angekündigt: "Mutants", erscheint am 28. Juli via Sargent House! Brodsky und Koller, die eine fast telepathische Chemie besitzen, haben sich schon immer dadurch ausgezeichnet, dass sie ihre eigene, einzigartige Art von rasendem, hyperfokussiertem, dynamischem und exzessivem Griffbrett-versiertem Metal kreieren. Wenn man zwei Musiker nimmt, die in der Hardcore-Welt aufgewachsen sind und schnell die technischen Anforderungen übertrafen, um selbst die anspruchsvolleren Varianten dieses Sounds zu spielen, und sie dann dazu bringt, sich gegenseitig spielerisch in unverschämte und eingängige Gefilde zu drängen, erhält man eine grobe Annäherung an den MUTOID MAN-Sound. Satyricon & Munch zeigt zwei der bekanntesten norwegischen Künstler, Edvard Munch und SATYRICON, vereint in einem bahnbrechenden Kunstwerk, das die Grenzen zwischen Hochkultur und Black Metal Musik zerfließen lässt. Das 56-minütige Instrumentalwerk, kreiert von SATYRICON-Mastermind Satyr, ist als musikalisches Werk konzipiert unterwirft sich keinen stilistischen Grenzen und geht weit über jegliche Genrekonvention hinaus.

Auch wenn das Stück für die Kunstausstellung Satyricon & Munch geschrieben wurde, hat es eindeutig die emotionale Tiefe, um in jeder Umgebung außerhalb des Ausstellungsraums seine Wirkung zu entfalten.

Die neue, einzigartige und von Kritikern und Fans hochgelobte Kunstausstellung war bis zum 28.08.2022 im MUNCH-Museum in Oslo zu sehen.

After a 9 year hiatus, Jim Lockey & The Solemn Sun return to Xtra Mile Recordings with their brand new album 'Colour' -to be released on 28th July 2022. Available on PINK vinyl, CD and digitally. Besucher:innen des Newport Folk Festivals wurden im vergangenen Sommer Zeugen eines ganz besonderen Momentes: Joni Mitchell kehrte am 24. Juli 2023 nach 20 Jahren auf die Bühne zurück und spielte ein eindringliches Set, das einige ihrer großartigsten Songs
beinhaltete.

Es war das triumphale Bühnen-Comeback der Frau, die nicht wenige für die größte Singer-Songwriterin aller Zeiten halten.

This live recording of Sentenced's last live performance in 2006 has been only briefly available on vinyl previously in a very small edition. This official new edition by Lipposen Levy ja Kasetti with Svart Records is officially licensed from Century Media. Split over three LPs, this is the full two hour show with 26 tracks. The pressing is limited to 700 copies.

Throughout 2022, The Wedding Present’s ‘24 Songs’ series saw the legendary indie band release two new tracks a month as double A sided 7”s, ultimately creating a much-sought-after box set. David Gedge has now re-curated full-length versions of all twenty-four tracks for a new compilation album that will also comprise five bonus recordings including one featuring The Wedding Present’s first guitarist, Peter Solowka.

‘24 Songs’ was a doff of the cap to The Wedding Present’s ‘Hit Parade’ project of 30 years previous. That series proved to be a real milestone for the band with them becoming only the second-ever artist to achieve twelve Official UK Top 40 hits in a calendar year – at the time something that only Elvis had achieved!

David Gedge says: “When it came to compiling the ‘24 Songs’ album, I decided not to sequence the tracks in chronological order. With six sides of vinyl, you have six ‘beginnings’ and six ‘ends’ to play with, and I felt that the opportunity to build some kind of a musical journey was too good to miss! Listening back to this collection, I have to say that I genuinely believe that, for this project, The Wedding Present have recorded some of the best tracks in our history. I loved releasing the singles, but it’s satisfying to have them all rounded up together.”

“The idea of releasing another collection of twenty-four tracks did initially seem quite daunting,” admits David Gedge in the deluxe-CD sleeve notes but, with Jon Stewart (also of Sleeper) having joined the band at the end of 2019 and their subsequent writing partnership flourishing, he began to feel confident that they would be able to produce a year’s worth of music. And, with one of the UK’s most influential independent record labels by their side in Clue, a key partner to EMI North who will be distributing the record - there was no looking back.
