Following on from acclaimed compilations like 'Down Under Nuggets' and 'Heavy Soul' (and two other new titles 'Running The Voodoo Down' and 'Dodgy Bossa (& Silly Sambas)' - details below), Festival Records presents another deep dig into the archives, this time shining a light on rare Australian soul-jazz, jazz-funk, and freaked-out groove rock from the late '60s and '70s.

BACK ON THE STREET AGAIN - AUSTRALIAN FUNK, SOUL & PSYCH (MOSTLY) FROM THE FESTIVAL VAULTS is a stunning 20 track CD and 2LP release that highlights a point when the previously disparate styles of rock, jazz and soul all started influencing each other, and exciting new genres were created. To quote the liner notes (by DJ Kinetic):

Australia produced some amazing music during the 60s and 70s that sat outside of the normal rock mould. Avant guard artists like John Sangster pushed boundaries and experimented with the fusion of local and overseas influences, artists like Dalvanius recorded soaring disco music that was lost amongst the popular music of the time, only to be rediscovered by DJs overseas who were searching for unknown sounds, composers like Brute Force and His Drum took risks and recorded left-field funky sounds hidden within their more mainstream compositions, and popular artists like Billy Thorpe occasionally strayed from their A&R directions and took leaves from the books of American artists who were largely unknown in Australia at the time. Beneath the veneer of bland rock and roll lay an unknown multitude of funky sounds hidden from mainstream view.

In addition to the artists that Kinetic mentions (and the compilation features two John Sangster tracks - stunning versions of 'Hair' and the Beatles' 'A Day In The Life'), the collection includes iconic names of the era like the Daly-Wilson Big Band (featuring Kerrie Biddell), Renee Geyer and the Johnny Rocco Band. '60s sides from Ross D Wyllie and The ID (featuring Jeff St John) reveal the various styles' roots in American rhythm & blues, and the unexpected inclusion of some legendary Australian rock outfits like Tamam Shud and Blackfeather reveals the psychedelic and progressive rock influences at play. The full range of the music is highlighted by the inclusion of both cabaret/daytime TV performer Al Styne and outrageous Kings Cross club act Count Copernicus & The Cosmic Fire as well as the in-house studio 'pops' orchestra, Festival Studio 24 Orchestra.

Many of you will remember Manuel Göttsching by his Masterpiece E2-E4 and know the fact it got sampled by far more than once. Think Sueno Latino' to start with... and the plethora of further re-recordings by Derrick May, Joe Claussell, and a bootleg by Carl Craig that prove how Now' and Iconic Manuel´s Work is. The 2006 edition Joaquin Joe Claussell meets Manuel Göttsching' is the first attempt to bring these once illegal mixes finally to a broader and wider audience. It comes with 2 very rare and first time officially released tribute mixes of 1970´s Göttsching Classics, carefully remodeled by Joe Claussell (21.12 minute Deeper Distance' plus 10.17 Minute Ain´t No Time For Tears"). The last words, however, are left to MG himself, with Shuttlecock", a final eighteen minute excursion, which has Manuel improvise over a soft carpet of delayed bell sounds, before the guitar fades away and the track deepens and thickens, like a dark river sweeping along ever more motives and harmonies. A perfectly balanced collaboration released on both CD and LP. Consisting of 3 concert recordings which were originally released on the 6th CD Album Private Tapes : Tracks 1 und 3 were recorded at Bataclan in Paris, 12/1976, Track 2 in Berlin 8/1979

Wiederveröffentlichung der gesuchten 12-Inch Vinyl Maxi-Single von 1980. Hier finden sich vier essentielle Versionen des "Real Rock" Riddim (im Original von Sound Dimension/Studio One): der atemberaubende Deejay Cut von Jah Iny (auch bekannt als Jah T), zwei Melodica Dubversionen vom Meister selbst und ein Instrumental Dub seiner Backing Band Rockers All Stars. Am Mischpult sass Scientist im King Tubby Studio.

Das Album von 1984 ist wieder erhätlich! Mit dem schwergewichtigen Rhythm & Sound der Roots Radics im Channel One Studio und dem Mix von Sylvan Morris im Harry J Studio gilt dieser Longplayer als einer seiner besten. Yellowman schaffte es spätestens hiermit große Anerkennung in der US-Hip Hop/Rap-Szene zu erhalten, verbunden mit dem seinerzeit einhergehenden weltweiten Crossover - u.a. machte Eazy E (N.W.A.) den Titelsong "Nobody Move Nobody Get Hurt" zum geflügelten Wort, die Poor Righteous Teachers sampelten die Nummer für Profile Records. Bei diesem Album kommen u.a. folgende Riddims zum Einsatz: I Can't Hide, Answer, Wreck A Buddy, Hill And Gully, Youth In The Ghetto.

Wiederveröffentlichung des Longplayers aus dem Jahr 1980 mit dem markanten Tony McDermott Albumcover Design. Der Klassiker wurde im Channel One Studio eingespielt und abgemischt, am Mischpult saß der legendäre Barnabas (Stanley Bryan). Also Produzent fungierte Henry 'Junjo' Lawes, als Musiker die Roots Radics in Bestbesetzung (Bass: Errol 'Flabba' Holt, Drums: Style Scott, Santa Davis, Organ: Winston Wright, Guitars: Bo Pee Bowen, Andy Bassford, Piano: Gladdie Anderson, Percussion: Sky Juice & Skully). Mit den bekannten Songs "You Are A No Good" (kam auch auf dem Scientist-Album "Rids The World Of The Evil Curse Of The Vampires" zum Einsatz) sowie "Cassandra".

Reggae Classic! - Original album from 1981, recorded at Channel One with the Roots Radics as backing band plus full horn section! - Produced by Henry 'Junjo' Lawes, mixed by Scientist at King Tubbys studio. A must for every serious Reggae collection!

"Destroy The Invaders" gilt als das beste Dubalbum der frühen 80er von Lloyd James aka Prince Jammy, dem späterem King Jammy ! - Aufgenommen im Channel One Studio mit der Roots Radics Band und im King Tubby's Studio abgemischt, u.a. basierend auf Originalversionen von Junior Reid, Hugh Mundell und Wayne Smith, wurde die LP, auch inspiriert durch den anhaltenden Erfolg von Computerspielen wie 'Space Invaders', in einem ikonographischen Artwork von Tony McDermott erstmalig 1982 veröffentlicht. Ein Longplayer der in jede gepflegte Sammlung des Dub Reggae gehört!

Streng limitierte Veröffentlichung der legendären 12Inch Maxi-Single (GRED8) von 1978 als EP mit zwei weiteren Versionen des Rasta Anthem 'Bloody Eyes'! - Weltweit limitiert auf 750 Kopien. Diese EP erscheint in Koordination mit der Veröffentlichung der 2CD Deluxe Edition 'Rasta Communication'
