Welcome to another chrome-plated Arcola curveball, this time in the form of a trio of the moodiest cyber steppers from the shadowy LEVL.

Somewhere in an AI ether, faded pirate radio transmissions merged with drowsy half-memories of Metal Gear Solid and gained sentience. The results are subtle yet sublime, a masterful combination of percussion and atmosphere to get truly lost within.

These three shots of cave-dwelling soundsystem mutation are as evocative as they are insular and in the midst of these uncertain days you may just find you need them in your life.

London's elusive Lukid has never been one for convention. In the few short years between 2007-2012, he struck out on a seemingly effortlessly impeccable run of releases on fellow iconoclast Darren 'Actress' Cunningham's mighty Werkdiscs imprint, as well as his own label Glum. Those albums and EPs flaunted genre distinctions and embraced a freewheeling approach to melody, rhythm and atmosphere that felt at once exotically psychotropic and yet grounded in a resolutely english eccentricity. Thus, they feel like especially-prescient recent classics that continue to find new fans.

In the intervening years, Lukid's energy has been poured into his stunning monthly transmissions on NTS while his output has been sparse aside from a pair of mindbending EPs via Liberation Technologies and Glum, respectively. Those radio sets serve as a telling blueprint for his contribution to the ongoing Arcola project. From low slung Memphis rap mixtape cuts to clattering industrial cassette rarities, turbulent grime and outsider synth hallucinations there is a warped palette that comes vibrantly alive across the four included tracks here. The stormy bump and spectral melancholy of 'The Drip' and 'Clappers' seems to wed them together as thematic bedfellows across both sides of the EP while 'Head Shrinker' tries to squeeze an overcast psych-pop opus out of a rack of malfunctioning hardware. Spit out the other side of this ride you exit to the chopped-and-screwed goth grime of 'Conked Out', having had your brain smeared with the uniquely viscous ectoplasm that only Lukid can excrete. Perfectly slimy.

Having delivered killer remixes and notable productions for various compilations - Anastasia further refines her craft with this debut, continuing to justify her reputation as a leading light within techno.

Proving herself to be equally strong a producer as she is a selector, Ascetic presents four tracks that exemplify the broad spectral soundscapes of Anastasia Kristensen's style. While it may have its roots in techno, Ascetic offers a multitude of audio dimensions to explore.

From the skeletal noise techno of 'LXR Jam', the brazen hardcore flex of 'Ascetic' and its breakbeat counterpart 'Ascetic (In Breaks)' and the industrial/dub tech-noir of 'Donni', Ascetic EP is the perfect accompaniment to the whirlwind of emboldened intensity witnessed at Anastasia's international DJ sets every week.

Set to be one of 2019's strongest debuts, Ascetic's four tracks show that when it comes to genre and composition, Anastasia Kristensen has no intention of staying in one lane.

Basic Rhythm arrives on Arcola following two killer albums for Type and one as East Man for Planet Mu. Up top, 'Dough Boy' rolls a tough LFO heavy dance floor number that is sure to mash heads up everywhere it is deployed, while the anthemic 'Can't You See' shifts between early AI synths and an ambient dancehall vibe that while it has its roots in early 90's jungle and hardcore, has its sight fixed firmly on the future."
