The band’s twin guitar attack retains some of the space punk overtones and spy-music-on-meth chaos of Dead Kennedys, while adding a healthy dose of Detroit-style proto-punk, flavoured with Weiss’s industrial excursions into metal percussion. Including a selection of classic and rare tracks, tracing the scene from its R&B rootsto a soulful finale
Curated by Acid Jazz Records and Modcast founder Eddie Piller, and featuring new sleeve notes from
respected author and broadcaster Paul 'Smiler' Anderson.
As Eddie Piller points out in the forward to the extensive sleeve notes that accompany this collection, he
chose the word 'Sounds' carefully, reflecting the variety of talent contained here, from uncool session
musicians without an ounce of style in them, acts who saw an opportunity to jump on the Mod bandwagon
and bands who whole heartedly embraced Mod way of life.
And so this new collection mixes the Mod mainstays (Small Faces, The High Numbers The Action, The Fleur
De Lys), with a generous selection of future superstars (David Bowie, Rod Stewart, Elton John, Marc Bolan,
Jeff Beck and Graham Gouldman of 10cc are all represented here), and a few artists so obscure, so rare, that
they never got to release a record in the '60s, but Eddie has tracked down the tapes nonetheless.

Every great youth cult deserves a great soundtrack, and when the '60s Mods adopted classic American R&B,
with a side order of hip Jazz, they undoubtedly found the right music for their exuberant and stylish way of
life. And yet, buying expensive imports, hoping for a local release or praying for a rare visit from overseas
talent was never going to be enough to satisfy British youth with a thirst for the latest sounds. Certainly not
those on the dancefloor and definitely not those with their own musical ambitions.
It was a music scene that began with imitation, before skill and imagination lead curious minds to innovation,
a scene that evolved from average (at best) copies of releases on the Chess, Motown and Stax labels, to
become something more sophisticated,something quite unique, something very British.

of the best-selling and highly regarded books'Mods: The New Religion' and 'Mod Art'.

Featuring the popular singles “Forever Now”, “All Over You”, and “Love In a Peaceful World”, the album was a commercial success. It reached #8 on the UK album charts. Music critics were also generally favourable, calling it the band’s “best album since the mid-80s heyday of World Machine and Running in the Family”.

A vital voice in the modern discourse on depression, body positivity, and the LGBTQ community, her trailblazing influence has arguably never been more apparent and some of the key writers of the moment have teamed up to work with her. Among the tracks she releases here are the slinky, tropical-tinged Overload, a warning to a people getting on your nerves, and Escape, a broken beats-driven track about escaping everyday life. The summery Self Love owes a debt to Donna Summer, while Melanie’s love of Billie Eilish influenced the moody, intimate Nowhere to Run. Melanie and Billie’s admiration for one another was plain to see at this year’s BRIT Awards, where Melanie presented Billie with the Best International Female Solo Artist award after a long embrace. Who I Am and second single Blame It On Me have both set up the self-titled album and despite releasing during a global lockdown, she has performed to great acclaim on TV and online across the world on flagship shows such as The One Show in the UK, no less than 4 million plus German TV shows and James Corden’s Late Late show in the US where her performance is now the benchmark. With growing streaming support and A list radio support on both tracks in the UK, Australia, Latin America, SE Asia and Germany so far, it’s a global new chapter for Girl Power.
Tropical Odds is the second album by White Sea, the solo alias adopted by gifted American singer, songwriter and producer Morgan Kibby of M83
Born in Alaska, and now a resident of Los Angeles, Morgan fronted The Romanovs before joining acclaimed electronic music group M83 in 2007, co-writing, arranging and playing keyboards on the albums Saturdays = Youth and Hurry Up, We're Dreaming, as well as completing several world tours.
As White Sea, her first solo album In Cold Blood arrived in 2014, a dramatic debut praised by Billboard for its 'canyon-sized hooks, knowingly grandiose melodies and succulent vocals' and judged 'pop's newest break-up classic' by Flavourwire.
Outside of M83 Morgan has also collaborated with artists such as Greg Kurstin, Panic! at the Disco, Mark Ronson and School of Seven Bells, remixed Ellie Goulding and Britney Spears, and composed the award winning soundtrack to Eva Husson's provocative 2016 movie Bang Gang (une histoire d'amour moderne).
New album Tropical Odds stems from an interactive project launched via White Sea's website featuring digital singles and videos released at regular intervals throughout 2015 and 2016. Explains Morgan: 'Generally being able to create and mix and master my solo material within days has given me the direct freedom to share songs I want people to hear. In short, if I write something that I like, I put it out!'
Now gathered together in album form, the musical moods on Tropical Odds range from the sombre reflections of Gangster No. 1 and Yesterday to the hedonistic rush of Stay Young, Get Stoned and Never a Woman, high drama on Bloodline and Arcadia, and heartbreaking balladry on Secret, One Bad Eye and Lessons.
