2024 Repress!

Ahead of two albums worth of Severed Heads reissues on the excellent Medical Records, their West Coast compadres Dark Entries present a 12" edition of what is perhaps the band's most iconic track. One of three records due this month to celebrate Dark Entries fifth anniversary, this 12" is themed around "Dead Eyes Opened", perhaps Severed Heads' most iconic track and presented here in extended 12" mix version. Anyone with a passing interest in primitive electronics should be more than familiar with "Dead Eyes Opened" which sounds remarkably ahead of it's time even today. Both the B Side tracks from the original 1984 pressing make the cut too and Dark Entries have done a wonderful job in replicating the artwork too.

Shaka is a multi-talented DJ / Producer who produces music that crosses several sub-genres of House, and at the highest level of musicality and soul. While well-known in his home country of Switzerland through his 3 decades in the industry, he is now on the verge of gaining much more intensive and wide-spread acclaim with his debut 4 track EP on Nervous Records.

Rewind to 1997 and Uk's finest clubs are alight to the tech-house sounds emanating from South London. Terry Francis, a key figure in the scene, needs no introduction, Fabric resident, Wiggle co-founder, as well as part of the seminal Housey Doingz collective, 'Dubtown' was his first solo outing, all 4 tracks are instant classics, and the EP itself has become his most sought after release to date.

The tracks themselves are varied and brilliant, EP opener 'Hannah's House' kicks off with an infectious bass line and builds with expertly programmed percussion. Simple yet effective riffs intertwine with warm pads and deep chord stabs. 'Hannah's Dub' strips the track down, eerie synths add a tuneful swagger without ever losing dancefloor appeal. 'As You Cry' broadens the sonic palette with swinging rhythms, crisp snares and dreamy chords that deliver the peak time funk and bump. Lastly 'Reggae's House' is a deep dub infused jam, acidic 303 touches combine effortlessly with pads and stabs, whilst echoing bursts of percussion make some real tripped out musical moments.

All 4 tracks are deep winners, tweaked to maximum effect by a master of the genre. A rarity for decades now available once more. Modeight presents a captivating 4 tracker from the talented DJ and producer Valeria Croft, based in Helsinki. With a unique blend of jazz elements, house, and minimalism, Valeria effortlessly bridges these genres and brings them to the dance culture.

The EP opens with Kaksi, a low slung, slow burning groove that glides with effortless grace, featuring meandering atmospheric tones that induce a positively out of body feeling. Next is Mad Mood, a rhythmically fluid roller, peppered with a cyclical hypnotic sequence and shimmering vocals.

Pretty Inspiration showcases a deep, sub sonic wiggle, carving out a sophisticated and immensely enjoyable sonic journey. The EP wraps up with Viisi, a track that concludes with a graceful afterhours groove.

”Dischi Spranti - vol. 2" is the second official release for the independent label Dischi Spranti. After the first volume with some of the best producers of electronic music in Salento, "vol. 2" continues its research into the local groove, by collecting six tracks mainly dedicated to the dancefloor. The watchword is 4/4, no matter if it is house, techno, acid, tribal or deep, with an ambient finale that appeases bodies and sweat.
