Founded in 2019 by Nick Whaley and Luca Tantari, Piss Drunk Records was born in Northern California from a shared passion for underground electronic music and the DIY ethos that has always driven independent scenes.

Rather than waiting for opportunities, the label was created with a simple philosophy: if nobody releases the music you believe in, do it yourself. Every release represents that independent spirit, putting artistic freedom before commercial expectations.

Nick Whaley has been an active figure in the Northern California underground electronic scene for many years, continuously releasing music, cutting lathe records, and performing live sets while keeping the local DIY spirit alive. Luca Tantari, originally from Italy, lived in California where the idea for Piss Drunk Records was born. After returning to Italy, he continued developing the label, expanding its international reach while preserving its original vision and underground identity.

Although founded in California, Piss Drunk Records has always maintained strong roots in both the United States and Italy, creating a bridge between two underground communities.

The label embraces a broad spectrum of electronic music, from raw industrial techno, experimental electronics and noise to old-school hardcore, gabber and more dancefloor-oriented productions. Style is never the priority—authenticity is.

The first five releases were issued as hand-cut lathe records and a limited cassette, reflecting the label's commitment to small-run, handcrafted formats. PDR006 marks Piss Drunk Records' first professionally pressed vinyl release, representing a new milestone while remaining true to the DIY philosophy that inspired the project from day one.

Wer sich Drunks Debütalbum ,A Derby Spiritual" aus dem Jahr 1996 noch einmal anhört, wird feststellen, dass es charmanter, sanfter und - wenn ich das so sagen darf - farbenfroher ist, als es sein stoischer Slow-Core-Ruf aus den 90ern vermuten lässt. Und man könnte sogar bemerken, dass Rick Alversons Stimme einen bisher ungeahnten, von Niederlagen gezeichneten Tom-Petty-Singsang aufweist. Der Sound der Band aus Richmond ist zweifellos zurückhaltend, knarrend und karg. Doch die Jahrzehnte haben diesem alten, traurigen Kerl einen wärmenden bernsteinfarbenen Schimmer verliehen. Das Black-Hole-Radio-Stück am Ende des atemberaubenden Openers ,Collarbone" scheint das Kommen von ,Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" vorherzusagen. Und hier in der seltsamen Gegenwart könnten Stücke wie ,Germany Skies", ,Gideon's Trumpet" und ,Gizmo" nahtlos in den heutigen Indie-Country-Boom eingefügt werden. Der seltsame Walzer aus Akkordeon und Geige in Stücken wie ,Indeliberate Matrimony" und ,Coming Home" klingt - wage ich es noch einmal zu sagen - wie Mellencamp aus der ,The Lonesome Jubilee"-Ära am Boden eines Fasses Schnaps. Alversons Lyrik schwankt zwischen dem hoffnungsvollen Nihilismus seines zeitgenössischen Songwriter- und Dichterkollegen aus Virginia, David Berman, und dem tiefgründigen Post-Beat-Minimalismus von Robert Creeley. Ich schwöre, wenn er in dem hoch-und-einsamen, von der Mundharmonika getragenen ,Window Sill" seufzt: ,I feel willy-nill/I pissed upon your window sill", klingt das im Lenderman'schen Sinne des Wortes verdammt romantisch. Im Rahmen des 30-jährigen Jubiläums von Jagjaguwar wird ,A Derby Spiritual", Jags zweite Veröffentlichung überhaupt, zum ersten Mal auf Vinyl gepresst. Ein drei Jahrzehnte langes Unrecht wird endlich wiedergutgemacht. Tatsächlich erscheinen im Rahmen der Feierlichkeiten zum 30-jährigen Jubiläum des Labels eine Handvoll dieser frühen Veröffentlichungen aus der Charlottesville-Ära von Jagjaguwar auf Vinyl.

Mellow Drunk led by Leigh Gregory on vocals and guitar with co-founding member of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Ricky Maymi and Stephen Scott Cavoretto (ex-Dora Flood). Mellow Drunk quickly established themselves as "purveyors of finely arranged melodic pop songs", as well as becoming favourites on the West Coast club circuit. Supergrass, Luna, trashcan sinatras, The Church, The Clientele, The Morning After Girls, LILYSand Gorky's Zygotic Mynci have all had the band open for them when they've passed through San Francisco.

Shall Not Fade welcomes Mia Lily to the label for her debut release "Hydrated But Drunk EP".

Northern raised and London based, Mia is already well known for her high-energy DJ sets and her monthly residencies on Balamii and Foundation FM. As a selector Mia's sound is rooted in rave, but she also has a background in classical piano and family roots in jazz. All this becomes immediately clear as Mia effortlessly & expertly steps into the producer, composer & vocalist roles to deliver five refined, emotive & highly musical tracks that navigate trance, techno, UKG and house and feature vocal and piano performances from Mia.

Drunk Uncle isolated themselves into a cabin on an East Texas farm to write and record the follow up to their debut Look Up in 2022. The result "O, brittle weather!" is a thoughtful, probing album that explores a cacophony of sounds in a playful and whimsical way. The album feels like a telling of a great story- songs like pages colored with splashes of acoustic and electric guitars, floating bass, keys, horns, and percussion that ranges from a whole kit to a single tambourine that succinctly cues up the next chapter. Narrated by melodic vocals belting out emotional poetry, "O, brittle weather!" seems to plead with you to keep listening until the last word. Then, it begs you to listen again. Most bands are content to just collect a handful of songs and group them together as an album. Drunk Uncle strived to make something bigger than themselves. And wouldn't you know it, they succeeded.

Drunk Uncle hail from Austin, TX, but their namesakes are probably drawn from someone you know. Think about your last family gettogether- Uncle Bill is halfway through a six-pack when the alien conspiracy theories start pouring out of his mouth. He starts chaotic and loud, then gets quiet and sad as he keeps drinking. His mood will swing wildly in-between emotions. His speech is raw and his vulnerability is beautiful. Bottle that energy up into music form and you have Drunk Uncle. Drunk Uncle's debut album "Look Up" draws on catharsis. Picture yourself in a grimy basement surrounded by your best friends, watching a band as music washes over you and you feel like everything is in the right place. Oliver Perau alias Juliano Rossi hätte 1996 sicherlich nicht damit gerechnet, dass er 2021 immer noch als Rossi unterwegs sein würde. "So viele entsetzte Gesichter habe ich selten gesehen" sagt Perau lachend und ergänzt nach kurzer Pause "aber für mich war es wie eine Offenbarung". 25 Jahre später veröffentlicht Juliano Rossi sein fünftes Album, Terry Hoax gibt es auch wieder und zusätzlich tourt Perau seit 9 Jahren durch Pflegeheime und macht Musik für Menschen mit Demenz. Ein sehr ungewöhnliches und in dieser dreigleisigen Konsequenz sicherlich einzigartiges Sängerleben, dass offensichtlich glücklich macht. Repress! It's safe to say that hip-hop has never seen an album like Ol’ Dirty Bastard's 1995 solo debut Return to the 36 Chambers. The brief glimpses of ODB's unhinged genius provided by Wu-Tang Clan's landmark Enter the Wu-Tang album two years earlier were begging to be expanded on to a larger canvas, and, with RZA guiding production, the album promised to give Dirty the creative license to make one of the most bizarre, entertaining and original LPs in hip-hop history. With his raspy, drunken flow and dark sense of humor, Dirty fearlessly attacks from all angles, throwing himself fearlessly into punchy rhyme attacks (“Damage,” with GZA), drugged-out party jams (the monster singles “Brooklyn Zoo” and “Shimmy Shimmy Ya”) and bizarre, grimly hilarious fantasies of sex and violence (“Don't U Know” and the R&B-tinged “Sweet Sugar Pie”). It hasn't been long since The Wedding Present released their latest LP Going, Going... but there's already another LP in the pipeline, albeit a collection of old sessions. The Marc Riley Sessions Volume 1 collection comes out on 2nd December via Hatch Records and contains tracks from three memorable studio sessions with DJ Marc Riley from 2007, 2008 and 2010. The sessions feature songs that span the entirety of the cult indie band's career and the consistency of David Gedge's songwriting.

Music programme over the years is something of an honour. In the great tradition of the Peel/Selwood releases on the Strange Fruit label this record proves that even without John the BBC can still be a place where great bands can continue to grow and be creative... amongst friends.' Riley also commented on John Peel's love of the cult band: There were many other bands who benefitted from the 'Peel Effect'. T oo numerous to mention. But one of those was — as if you can't see this coming — The Wedding Present. The constant support. Plays. Sessions. Encouragement. Friendship. John's love of the George Best LP (which was a heroic support considering John's affiliation to Liverpool — Manchester United's most hated rival) was well known... and until John passed away he remained a firm fan of all things 'Gedge'.'

Ant Orange's third 12 for Karaoke Kalk forms something resembling a trilogy for the label. Right There' is built on a familiar Rhodes-n-bass aesthetic, combining the lo-fi jazz of 2017's Arkupe' with the soulful vocal motifs of 2015's s/t', while introducing more electronic ingredients and taking an increasingly exploratory approach to rhythm and composition.
The opening title track clocks in at over 8 minutes, growing slowly from soft tickled keys to a full-bodied groove circled by airy synths and fragmented RnB vocals. Drunk In The Trunk' then shifts down a gear, looping another vocal cut over a lazy, stripped-back wahwah vibe. Side A closes with experimental jazz skit Let That Sink In', its jerky tempo and flashes of light reminiscent of a late-night subway ride.
The B-side takes a more contemplative tone, with the meditative arpeggios and sparse drums of Comfort Zone' leading into the dusky West Coast stroll of Muscle Beach', before Rudis Goes Offline' picks up the tempo for a last shimmering dance. The closing track A Frozen Lake' sounds just like it sounds - chilled by name and by nature.
The completion of this trilogy marks a turning point in Ant Orange's sound, but that's all we can say for now - stay tuned for more. In the mean time just sit back and enjoy the sublime vibes of Right There.

The Sound Of Young Jamaica - More Early Cuts From The Vaults Of Studio One 1959-63

This is the second collection to bring together many of the visionary producer Clement 'Sir Coxsone' Dodd's early recordings made with Jamaica's most exciting young artists and musicians who helped define the world of reggae music over the decades following Jamaican Independence. These recordings were made when Sir Coxsone ruled the dancehalls of Kingston in the late 1950s and early 1960s with his number one Downbeat Sound System, where songs were tested out on dub plates at a dance to see a crowd's reaction - the most popular of which were then released commercially. Featuring early material by Roland Alphonso, Don Drummond, Tommy McCook (all of whom would form The Skatalites), Toots and The Maytals, young singers such as Bob Marley and The Wailers, Delroy Wilson, Owen Gray all captured in their formative days. The music here spans a wealth of styles - Jamaican rhythm and blues, jazz, gospel, proto-ska, Rastafarian - all of which were drawn upon to create the future sounds of Jamaican reggae that Sir Coxsone and the artists featured would soon create at Studio One which opened its doors in 1963. Obviously TD ooze subtlety and taste, so as we sat sipping Schnapps from our Stanley cups, we couldn't help but take a little inspo from our kitchen decor. 'Live Love Pump' - what a mantra. In musical form, this philosophy takes the shape of a capital D-isco delight, equal Pats Cowley & Adams, EQ-freaked and filtered into something dafter than a pair of chrome clad millionaires. Big room mirrorball magic if ever we've heard it.
The A2 sees the drunk AOR funk of 'Sure Line' take a leisurely stroll down the coast, a Gauloises in the gob and tattered Baldwin in the back pocket, flipping and flopping along the prom to buoyant bass, melting brass and more than a little melancholy.

Booting off the B-side, 'Un America' is a massive mid-tempo chugger replete with laser fire, synth scree and nipple high guitar. Powering along on a serious bass sequence armed with hooks-a-plenty, mostly incomprehensible lyrics and a groove which won't quit, this has all the ingredients required for an Italo all-timer.
The finale finds us in the company of some punk pioneers at their absolute silliest, bringing the kind of whacky vocal vibe, surf-centric style and off kilter groove the B-52s made a career of. Add in animal chatter and scratchy guitars and you've got the sort of secret weapon the Idjuts unleash waaaay post peak.
