On the cusp of their 30th year with British indie Warp Records, Plaid return with a joyous new studio album, Feorm Falorx. From their playful early releases in the late 80's until now, they have explored diverse musical styles and embraced new methods of synthesis whilst maintaining a musical thread that spins back through the early Hip Hop scene of their youth and beyond to the sounds of the late 60s and 70s that inspired it.

Plaid have toured extensively and collaborated widely over the years, writing for and performing with sonic researchers, percussion groups, solo artists and orchestras, most recently for the BBC Concert Orchestra. They have written for computer games and scored several feature films, one of which, Tekkon Kinkreet, was awarded the Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year.

This eleventh studio album finds our duo, Ed Handley and Andy Turner, recreating a recent performance at the Feorm Festival, an intergalactic festival held on the planet Falorx. In order to survive the Falorxian atmosphere they were converted into light so the traditional recording devices they'd taken on 'The Campbell' were not functional. Fortunately, having consulted Earth's Space Agency, it was deemed safe to recreate the performance back in their London studio. Extensive testing of the resulting recordings have established a level of thought contamination deemed, “perfectly acceptable.”

Exzellente Live-LP zum Jahrestag des letzten Nightmares On Wax-Studioalbums 'Shout Out! To Freedom...', aufgenommen mit vollständiger Band und dem New Yorker Vokalisten Haile Supreme im legendären Pikes auf Ibiza im Oktober 2021.

Nightmares on Wax spricht darüber, wie das Live-Album zustande kam: "Dieses Live-Album fängt wirklich die Momente ein, in denen wir aus dem Lockdown herauskamen und alle wieder zusammen sein und auftreten konnten, während wir die Möglichkeit hatten, all das auszudrücken, was wir bei der Entstehung des Albums fühlten. Wir spielten es live mit allen Musikern aus Ibiza, Haile Supreme kam aus New York City, nachdem wir lange Zeit keinen Kontakt zu ihm hatten, und wir konnten im legendären Pikes Ibiza auftreten. Es war unser erster Gig während der ganzen Pandemie und es war ein ganz besonderes Gefühl. Teil der Geschichte in diesen Mauern zu sein, ist etwas ganz Besonderes und liegt mir sehr am Herzen, denn Ibiza ist meine Heimat. Dieses Live-Album fängt diese Energie und Stimmung ein, ebenso wie all die wunderbaren Menschen, die ausgewählt wurden, um uns bei diesem Ereignis zu begleiten."

Die 13 Tracks auf "Polymer", darunter energiegeladene Banger, helle, melodische, viszerale Rhythmen und hypnotische Strukturen, bilden das vielleicht kompakteste Album von Plaid. Das Duo ging Anfang der 1990er aus der Formation The Black Dog hervor und zählt neben Acts wie Aphex Twin, Autechre oder Nightmares On Wax zu den Eckpfeilern des Warp-Labels. In ihrer langjährigen Karriere arbeiteten Plaid zusammen mit Björk, London Sinfonietta und den Southbank Gamelan Players und füllten Venues vom Sydney Opera House über das Londoner Bloc bis zum Berliner Berghain. "Polymer" trägt all die Emotionen, Einflüsse und Inspirationen in sich und funktioniert als ihr Statement in modernen Zeiten.

Für das neue Album setzte Tom Jenkinson nach vielen Jahren erstmals wieder auf dieselbe digitale und analoge Hardware, mit der er in den frühen 1990ern seinen Trademark-Sound definierte. Die Verwendung der Vintage-Synthesizer und -Effekte (inkl. eines Commodore Vic-20) markiert eine radikale Kehrtwende für den Briten, der auf dem Vorgänger "Damogen Furies" noch komplett auf moderne Tools und die neueste Software setzte, von ihm selbst im Laufe von 15 Jahren programmiert und optimiert. Das Ergebnis klingt vor allem ausgelassen, wenn Tom astreine Breakbeat-Tunes wie "Nervelevers" und "Terminal Slam" – klassisches Dancefloor-Material – vom Stapel lässt. Düstere Tracks wie "Vortrack" und "Mekrev Bass" belegen derweil, dass er nach wie vor ein Faible für perfekt ausbalancierten Psycho-Overload hat. Insgesamt verweist "Be Up A Hello" auf die Ära der DIY-Raves in Essex, deren Ekstase, Ausgelassenheit und Hemmungslosigkeit die ganze Herangehensweise von Tom nachhaltig prägen sollten.

Brandneue 6-Track-Vinyl-only-EP von Kelela, eine der stärksten Vertreterinnen des Future-R&B, frisch gesignt auf Warp Records, z.T. produziert von Arca. Die "Hallucinogen EP" - von den Meinungsmachern bei Pitchfork als "sinnlicher, feinfühliger Hi-Definition R&B-Ansatz" bezeichnet - erzielte bereits mehrere "Album Of The Week" Platzierungen in den Trendmedien (Spin, Stereogum) und besitzt laut Guardian "mehr Ideen in den 6 Songs als manche Künstler in 6 Alben haben". Auch das Radio hierzulande zeigt sich sehr aufgeschlossen.

Clark kehrt mit "Superscope" zurück zum klassischen Techno-Sound, zum Dancefloor, immer mit fortschrittlichem Ansatz. Seine neuen Tunes passen in ein Underground Resistance Set wie auch zu zeitgenössischen DJs wie Jacques Greene oder der Night Slugs-Posse. Passend dazu Clarks neue audiovisuelle Liveshow namens "Phosphor": purer und klassischer Acid.

'Body Riddle', ein Highlight des frühen Clark-Katalogs, von Produzenten wie Arca, Rustie und Hudson Mohawke als massgeblicher Einfluß bezeichnet, wurde unter persönlicher Betreuung von Clark neu für mehr Dynamik remastered und erscheint erstmals wieder seit 16 Jahren.

BIO: Chris Clark arbeitet seit 20 Jahren mit Musik und Ton. Schon in jungen Jahren wurde er von Warp Records gesignt und veröffentlichte bis dato 13 Alben und eine Vielzahl an EPs und Singles. Sein jüngstes Studioalbum 'Playground In A Lake' für das Klassik-Label Deutsche Grammophon verschmolz sein Markenzeichen, die elektronische Musik, mit den Streichertönen des Cellisten Oliver Coates, der Geigerin Rakhi Singh und des Budapest Art Orchestra.

Nach seiner ersten Filmmusik für die Sky/Canal+ TV-Serie 'The Last Panthers' schrieb Clark die Scores zu 'Rellik' (BBC1/HBO) und das Drama 'Kiri' (Channel 4/Hulu). Kürzlich lieferte er die Filmmusik für Apple TV+ 'Lisey's Story', basierend auf Stephen Kings gleichnamigem Roman, sowie für 'Daniel Isn't Real', einem psychologischen Horrorfilm von Spectre Vision, der Produktionsfirma des Nicolas Cage-Kultfilms 'Mandy'. Dieser OST wurde ebenfalls von der Deutschen Grammophon veröffentlicht.

Chris arbeitete mit der Choreografin Melanie Lane zusammen und vertonte 12 zeitgenössische Tanzprojekte, darunter die Aufführung ihres Soloprojekts 'Tilted Fawn' im Sydney Opera House und zuletzt 'Personal Effigies', das im März 2018 mit dem Kier Choreographic Prize ausgezeichnet wurde, sowie 'WOOF' für die renommierte Sydney Dance Company.

Chris' umfangreiches Verzeichnis an Remixen für Künstler wie Thom Yorke, Massive Attack, Depeche Mode, Max Richter, Battles und Nils Frahm wurde 2013 als Doppelalbum 'Feast / Beast' veröffentlicht.

New album from South London producer, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Wu-Lu.

Leader of the punk-rap awakening, Wu-Lu pulls inspiration from personal hardship and the underrepresented on his latest for Warp entitled 'LOGGERHEAD'. Miles Romans-Hopcraft based his artistic moniker on the Amharic word for water, “wu-ha”. True to his fluid sound and nature, he decided to change it to something that felt more liquid. He ended up with Wu-Lu, a name he has been using since 2015. His first record GINGA opened the floodgates to a career that would take him to various places, people, and genres. From breaking bones at skateparks as a teenager, to DJing as one of the original members of Touching Bass, and eventually getting signed to Warp in 2021.

As an artist, Wu-Lu seems concerned with feeling and communicating the full spectrum of human emotion. Throughout his varied discography, he touches on disparate themes and sounds, straddling a divide between blissed-out beats and grungy guitar dirges, and often mixing both into one amorphous, unclassifiable sound of his own.

On ‘'LOGGERHEAD'’, Wu-Lu hones his unique sound. On ‘Take Stage’, a despondent spoken word intro opens with sombre strings and underlying bows dragged delicately across them. Then the lights flicker to life on ‘Night Pill’, and the mosh pit with them - the bassline approaches like a hungry shark and the guitars snarl with a homemade 90s grunge energy. This grunge drawl and punk spirit is peppered with dry old-school drum sounds of classic hip-hop, with laid-back beat-oriented tracks are spread amongst those with intermittent growls, scratches, and shrieks. Sonic elements are constantly rearranged and juxtaposed throughout the album, like on ‘South’ where the fluctuating pitch of squealing guitars and screaming vocals is contrasted with the steady flow of Lex Amor.

Listening through the album you are constantly greeted with about-turns, and through the element of surprise and deft use of contrast 'LOGGERHEAD' sits at an exciting point in Wu-Lu’s genre-defying artistry.

'You Belong There' ist Daniel Rossens ausgefeilte und eindringliche Betrachtung dessen, was nach dem rastlosen Enthusiasmus der Jugend kommt. Es ist eine fesselnde 10-Song-Wiedereinführung in eine Stimme, die sowohl völlig vertraut klingt, als auch durch den Akt des ungehinderten Ausdrucks und der neu gefundenen Selbstsouveränität völlig neu belebt wird. Fast zwei Jahrzehnte lang war Rossen entscheidender Bestandteil von Grizzly Bear, deren gemeinsame Harmonien und verschachtelte Texturen die Musik der frühen 1980er neu interpretierten. Er ist auch Gründungsmitglied der gefeierten Folk-Electronica-Band Department of Eagles. Vor vielen Jahren verliess Rossen die Enge Brooklyns, zog zunächst ins New Yorker Hinterland und dann nach Santa Fé, wo er in seinem Haus in der Wüste langsam die Welt von 'You Belong There' aufbaute. Yasuke, eine sechs Episoden umfassende Netflix Anime-Serie des in der Bronx geborenen, in Japan lebenden Animationsfilmers, Produzenten und Regisseurs LeSean Thomas (Cannon Busters, Children of Ether, The Boondocks), erzählt die Geschichte eines Samurai-Kriegers afrikanischer Abstammung in einer fantastischen Version des feudalen Japans in einem alternativen Universum voller Magie, Mechs und natürlich dem Schwertkampf.

Für Flying Lotus war es ein Traumprojekt, er beriet bei der Story und arbeitete neben dem renommierten Anime-Schöpfer Studio MAPPA als ausführender Produzent. Die Fähigkeiten des mit dem Grammy ausgezeichneten Produzenten kommen auf dem Album voll zur Geltung, indem er Synthesizer-Melodien, Basslinien und maschinell generierte Drum-Patterns miteinander vermischt und gleichzeitig neues klangliches Terrain erkundet - traditionelle japanische Perkussionsinstrumente wie die Taiko und die Hyoshigi sowie westafrikanische Perkussion, eine Anspielung auf die afro-japanische, feudale und doch futuristische Welt, in der Yasuke lebt. Flying Lotus gewann kürzlich zusammen mit Thundercat einen Grammy für das beste Progressive R&B-Album (It Is What It Is) und erhielt bei den 63. absent origin’ reassembles and reimagines recordings and musical
scores composed by Mira Calix, globally, over the past decade. It’s a
collage album about edges and borders, cutting and tearing, and
composing new combinations that point to an audio visual manifesto for the 21st Century.

“Like Duchamp, I had started out wanting to make an album, or box, of approximately all the things I produced. In the end, I realised - as much as a collage is the coupling of two or more realities, it also offers the means to examine the materials and culture of an era, questioning and expanding its borders.” - Mira Calix

Every song on the album was created by applying a different collage
process relating to a different visual artist, spanning the history of collage to contemporaries of the practice. The sonic materials are subjected to a myriad of processes; layered, synthesised, constructed and assembled into electronic melodies, textures and complex, frisky dance rhythms that are constantly shifting in surprising ways. absent origin employs collage to make sense of the current moment of displaced voices, disjunction and political unrest.

Calix’s recording sessions from all over the world are the many
fragments we hear across the album; from India to Tasmania, Jordan to Belgium, China to Uganda, her former home of South Africa, to her
current home in Britain. Slicing into these are further recordings of
vocalists, percussionists, choirs, orchestras, quartets and soloists, never appearing in the form in which they were originally intended. The record is a polyphony of predominantly diverse female voices held together by pulsating baselines, haunting electronic sounds and orchestrated melodies and with them, we travel.

The album fizzes with a political energy and the interconnectedness of
everything. At this moment in time, there is an impossibility of separating one thing from another; the effect is strange and not exactly reassuring.

Collage suggests infinite possibilities and each track here is a singularly unique compositional combine, a dizzying hall of mirrors with its own unlikely harmony, its own distinctive rhythm. On ‘absent origin’, collage becomes the tool to make sense of a present that is often anything but.

Squid announce their debut album, ‘Bright Green Field’, already one of 2021’s most highly anticipated releases.
Produced by Dan Carey, ‘Bright Green Field’ is an album of towering scope and ambition, it is deeply considered, paced and intricately constructed. With all band members playing such a vital and equal role, this album is very much the product of five heads operating as one.
Some bands might be tempted to include previous singles on their debut - and the band already released two more in 2020 via ‘Sludge’ and ‘Broadcaster’ - but instead ‘Bright Green Field’ is completely new. This sense of limitlessness and perpetual forward motion is one of the key ingredients that makes Squid so loved by fans and critics alike, from 6 Music, who have A-Listed previous singles ‘Houseplants’, ‘The Cleaner’ and ‘Match Bet’, to publications such as The Guardian, NME, The Face, The Quietus and countless others. The band was also on the longlist for the BBC Music Sound Of 2020 poll.
‘Bright Green Field’ features field recordings of ringing church bells, tooting bees, microphones swinging from the ceiling orbiting a room of guitar amps and a distorted choir of 30 voices, as well as a horn and string ensemble featuring the likes of Emma-Jean Thackray and Lewis Evans from Black Country, New Road.
Squid’s music - be it agitated and discordant or groove-locked and flowing - has often been a reflection of the tumultuous world we live in and this continues that to some extent. “This album has created an imaginary cityscape,” says Ollie Judge, who writes the majority of the lyrics and plays drums. “The tracks illustrate the places, events and architecture that exist within it. Previous projects were playful and concerned with characters, whereas this project is darker and more concerned with place - the emotional depth of the music has deepened.”
For all the innovative recording techniques, evolutionary leaps, lyrical
themes, ideas and narratives that underpin the album, it’s also a joyous and emphatic record. One that marries the uncertainties of the world with a curious sense of exploration as it endlessly twists and turns down unpredictable avenues.

"La Di Da Di" ist Antrieb, Aufschrei und Rätsel zugleich, nachdem die Battles die heillos verworrenen Drähte ihrer beiden Vorgänger "Mirrored" und "Gloss Drop" ausstöpselten und gegen die Wand schleuderten. Wie der Titel schon andeutet, ist "La Di Da Di" ein spriessender Monolith aus Repetition. Ein organisch-technoides Soundgeflecht aus fast unendlichen Loops, die sich der Einheit und Gleichmässigkeit verweigern. Geblieben ist allein das rhythmische Genie der Battles - frontal, überhöht, unversöhnlich: der Spießrutenlauf, den Melodie und Harmonie zurücklegen müssen, während sie bei jeder Drehung attackiert werden.

"Civis Jams" ist eine brodelndes Werk aus schlummernden Strukturen und ruhigen, kraftvollen Songs. Die Vocals haften an den Rändern der Mixes, was ihnen einen intimen und zugleich kryptischen Klang verleiht. Dieses Gefühl wird nochmal verstärkt durch Darkstars nachtaktive Produktionsweise von Drums und Synths. Zu den Highlights gehören die Tracks "Wolf" in bester Mount Kimbie-Manier der "Cold Spring Fault Less Youth"-Phase sowie "Jam", ein potentieller Peaktime-Banger, den Darkstar aber sanft und mit der Schärfe eines Jai Paul interpretieren. Nach ihrem Hyperdub-Debüt "North" (2010) und den beiden Warp-Nachfolgern "News From Nowhere" (2013) und "Foam Island" (2015) haben Darkstar mit "Civic Jams" ein Album mit grandiosen Unterwasser-Nachtsongs erschaffen.

Debüt-EP des Londoner Duos Jockstrap (Georgia Ellery & Taylor Skye) auf Warp. Jockstraps Mixtur aus harten Dubstep/Industrial-Beats, klassischer Komposition und verdrehten, zum Teil perversen Fantasy-Erzählungen begeisterte die Fachmedien (Dazed, Pitchfork, BBC 6Music, The Quietus, The Face, The Guardian) bereits bei ihrem Einstand, der digitalen "Love Is The Key To The City" EP (2018, Kaya Kaya Records), woraufhin es Lobeshymnen hagelte und Warp Records das Duo vom Fleck weg signte.
