It's said that tenor saxophonist Stan Getz and trumpeter Chet Baker never
particularly liked each other and even though they had musically compatible
styles, they only worked together briefly in three periods. This 1958 session,
produced by Norman Granz, exposes the two musicians' mutual hostility towards
one another in subtle ways, which at the time divided critical opinion on the
release. Nonetheless, this is an LP worthy of being in the collection of any Getz
and Baker fan - musically controversial as the LP might be.

A fantastic contribution to the early 60's "sweet soul" which Ben E. King had first
helped pioneer as the lead singer of the Drifters before breaking solo. The most
obvious highlight is the smooth but heart- felt title track and the mega- classic
'Stand By Me'. Includes four bonus tracks: 'Will You Love Me Tomorrow', 'Sway',
'Amore', and 'Spanish Harlem'.

Italian Strings", this LP was made by Chet Baker in Milan during his second tour

Underpinned by his insouciantly swinging guitar, Joãos seductive, vibratoless vocals caressed both ear and soul in a mesmerizing, highly addictive combination, refreshing and modern. Chega de Saudade was a hit, launching Gilbertos career and the bossa nova craze. Soon, singers and guitarists were trying to imitate him and composers were all on a Desafinado (the second Gilbertos hit) and Chega de Saudade kick. The longawaited renewal of the Brazilian samba was now a fact. Antonio Carlos Jobim said: Gilberto appeared as a light, as a big star in the firmament, in the heavens. He became a focus, because he was pulling the guitar in one way and singing the other way, which created a third thing that was profound. Released in 1959, The Amazing Nina Simone was Nina Simone's first album for Colpix Records. In contrast to her debut album 'Little Girl Blue' (Bethlehem Records), which highlighted her piano playing as well as her singing, this production downplayed the piano in favour of string arrangements. The production also featured a variety of material, including jazz, gospel, and folk
songs.
