Two years after his first EP Bagarre Bagarre, French artist Julien Granel brilliantly signs the soundtrack of the summer and continues his chromatic odyssey with Cooleur, his solar and bewitching first album. With its orchestral melodies, its pop and funky accents and its explosive collaborations, Cooleur appears as an ode to colorful joy and will certainly shake the heads of cool kids. Julien surrounded himself with Pedro Winter, the boss of the Ed Banger label, the Montreal duo Chromeo and Jean Charles de Castelbajac. Tidal Waves Music now proudly presents: the official reissue of this fantastic album, back available on vinyl for the first time since 1987. Available as a deluxe 180g 2XLP set, with TWO bonus tracks from the same session that were not featured on the original vinyl release. Pharoah `Farrell' Sanders (born 1940) is a leading figure in the world of jazz and one of the last living legends with connections to players like Sun Ra and John Coltrane. His tenor saxophone playing has earned him royal status amongst free jazz players, critics and collectors. On "Africa" from 1987 Sanders plays with an all-star line-up consisting of Idris Muhammad, John Hicks and Curtis Lundy. Muhammad brings his trademark tight sense of timekeeping, but with a looseness that we love - and Lundy's warm soulful bass does more than enough to give the set a sound bottom- all this while Hick's free lyrical piano works nicely with Sander's spiritual horn. The brilliant `Africa sessions' features the quartet at their best...soulful but also searching for a strong groove at the same time. The music here is less ornamented than on most of Sanders' studio recordings, where sextets, septets or larger lineups have been the norm, but this brilliant effort here remains every bit as compelling. Pharoah and his crew play with the utmost sensitivity and give a demonstration that shows us the full extent of their skills.

Surrounded by music from an early age, Vladimir Cosma pursued his education at the Paris National Conservatoire of Music in 1963. 5 years later Yves Robert entrusted him with his first composition of film soundtracks. Today Vladimir Cosma is at the origin of over 300 film soundtracks, the majority of which have become classics such as "La Boum", "The Adventures of Rabbi Jacob" or "Diva". Cosma's works saw him receive 2 Césars awards (French Grammy's) for best soundtrack amongst others. Find all his greatest songs he composed for original soundtracks on this nice 2LP vinyl.

Fatoumata Diawara ist eine malische Singer/Songwriterin und Schauspielerin. Ihr Debüt "Fatou" (2011) und darauffolgende Aktivitäten machten die Künstlerin zu einer der wichtigsten Vertreterinnen moderner afrikanischer Musik. Sie sang auf Alben von Dee Dee Bridgewater ("Red Earth"), Oumou Sangaré ("Seya") und Herbie Hancock ("The Imagine Project"). Darüber hinaus kollaborierte sie mit Bobby Womack, Mulatu Astatke, Cheikh Lô, dem Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou, Blick Bassy sowie Rocket Juice & the Moon. Diawara spielte bereits Glastonbury und andere große Festivals, trat in der Carnegie Hall auf und begab sich an Bord von Damon Albarns Africa Express, wo sie sich als Höhepunkt eine Bühne mit Paul McCartney teilte. Parallel setzte sie ihre Karriere als Schauspielerin fort, unter anderem in den Filmen "Timbuktu" (2014) und "Mali Blues" (2015). Ihr Album "Fenfo" (deutsch: "Etwas zu sagen") wurde in Mali, Burkina Faso, Paris und Barcelona aufgenommen und von Diawara selbst sowie dem französischen Superstar Matthieu Chedid alias -M- produziert. "Fenfo" geriet zu einem im besten Sinne grenzenlosen Album. Die elf Songs verbinden alte afrikanischen Saiteninstrumente wie die Kora und Ngoni mit elektrischen Gitarren sowie traditionelle Perkussion mit Kit-Drums. Diawara, die meist auf Bambara singt, wird unter anderem von -M- (Gitarre, Keyboards) dem brillanten Cellisten Vincent Ségal und dem Kora-Spieler Sidiki Diabaté begleitet.

Wagram turn their attention to the hip-swivelling world of Afro-disco and Afro-Funk, putting together a sizzling set of pan African sounds covering a whole host of dance styles from all over the continent.
